We came in from out of town to specifically eat here. Disappointed with the parking situation. We (party of four) walked in to be seated. We were told there was a 20 minute wait. No problem, it was a nice evening out so we walked around until we got the text that our table was ready. We go back in only to be told that the reservation was made for two. And she tried to blame us and said that WE must've did it wrong. Told the hostess that I was confused because SHE was the one who put us in the system and literally asked us how many people were in our party. Even though we were clearly standing together. We were told that it would be another 15 minutes before we could be seated. Thankfully a table was available within a few minutes. The menu was pretty basic and typical for a soul food restaurant, so no surprises there. We ordered the catfish meal, two dark meat chicken meals and the meatloaf meal. I had asked for the salmon croquette meal to go but was told that they don't do to-go orders. But that I could order it and box it up myself. I kept my comments to myself but truthfully, I thought was pretty strange since they do online orders and food delivery services like door dash. We waited for OVER AN HOUR for our food!!!! Tables that came in after us were being served and by the looks of their plates, ordered things similar to what we ordered. No one checked in on us during that time. Not cool. When the food finally arrived, it was great portions and very delicious! We had to request silverware and some napkins. She seemed very irritated by the request. Oddly enough the to-go order was boxed up. LOL All in all, our experience was mid. We were packed in there like sardines, but it was a Saturday evening. I would've given it more stars had my strawberry lemon drop had any alcohol in it whatsoever and the restaurant is smaller but very nice but I was uncomfortable due to the lack of air circulation. We came in a Friday and got on the list at 1:40. We were told it would be about a 90 minute wait- no biggie. We walked around to the nearby shops and did a little shopping. At 2:55 we went back to inquire about our table. They told us 30 more minutes. 40 minutes later, we inquired again and they told us 30-40 minutes because the table they were going to use for us was being used to roll silverware! We were told we could sit at the open table near the front (there were four) but we wouldn't be served. We sat down because we had been standing outside for an hour at this point. We were finally seated at our table at 4:10. We sat for about 15 minutes before someone came to our table. We ordered immediately (we had plenty time to review the menu). It took another 20 minutes to get our food. It was 6:00 when we left. Our food was pretty good and our server was very sweet. Everyone was very polite but the wait and lack of organization around seating guests was a lot. We visited for brunch in the summer and came back for dinner. Both times we really enjoyed our food. It's a small space and they are a new restaurant still trying to figure something's out so bring your patience. Because it's small they were seating large parties and there might be a wait for a table. Our severs were great both times. It did feel like we waited a while for our food to come out after ordering. During that time we took advantage to try some cocktails, also very good. Food did come out very hot, always a plus. The servings were large so we had plenty to take home. All they need is Kool Aid and fresh cornbread slices and I'd take this 2 hour drive every Sunday. It is very rare that I go to a restaurant where I don't feel the need to add salt or some type of spice to at least one item on my plate. This meal was perfect as is. No extra seasoning was needed. So glad we found this wild food restaurant on Yelp. It's relatively new to the area which made it exciting to stop in. The vibe is very empowering meets soul. There were portraits of influential black women on the walls which was awesome and light music playing in the background--honestly the perfect soul food scene for me. I know it was a lot but it all just sounded so tasty that we had to try what we could lol everything was literally a 10/10. Nothing was overly salty or dry. Ventured in to Soul Secrets the other day and we are so glad! If you are looking for delicious food with large serving size - head to Soul Secrets. My husband had the fried catfish with potato salad and green beans. He loved every bite. The catfish had an amazing breading - SO GOOD. He could not stop talking about the potato salad. So tasty. Downsides: The whiting had so many bones that it made it unenjoyable to eat, the catfish was perfect. The greens didn't taste seasoned well so drowning them in their hot sauce was a must.
