    Black kale salad
    Ritvik N.

First time in Cincinnati -- dined at Sotto the evening after the Flying Pig Half. I went solo and sat at the bar. The ambiance is intimate and very dim, mostly candlelit. It's a nice vibe, though definitely on the darker side. I ordered the black kale salad, cappellacci (short rib, shallot, thyme), and the branzino. * The kale salad was solid, but a bit heavy on the pecorino. * The cappellacci was decent, though the accompanying elements didn't quite work for me. * The branzino was cooked well, but overall the dish didn't stand out in flavor. In general, the food felt underwhelming for the price. My bill was around $100, and I didn't feel the quality or flavor justified it. Some dishes came across a bit muted -- not sure if that's the intended style, but it didn't land for me. Parking in the area was also a bit inconvenient. Overall: great ambiance, but the food didn't meet expectations for the cost. I probably wouldn't return.

Took a chance on getting into Sotto tonight. Drove down there and put ourselves on the waitlist for the bar. Love walking down those steps, waiting for your eyes to adjust, while knowing you're somewhere special. Luckily, after not too long of a wait we were seated!! We had the most amazing bartenders, Trevor was fantastic! They all were. We had another absolutely out of this world meal. Love their oil packed tuna, their bistecca fiorentina and the pappardelle al cinghiale!! Unfortunately, we had no room for dessert so we're going to have to go back again to eat more. Haha Oh and we actually tried their Blue Oven bread for the first time and it was incredible. What a fabulous restaurant! So lucky to have it here in Cincinnati! We don't even miss La Normandie anymore!

This place is a little hard to find since it's in a basement/underground, but it's a beautiful vibe! I valet parked for $15. It's quite dark inside, and a little loud but not terrible. I rented a private dining room, which fits up to 12 people, and there's a TV with an HDMI setup for a presentation (which was my purpose for being there). We had a pre fixe menu served family style - everything was amazing and my group loved it! Kale caesar salad, goat cheese & honey toast, and charcuterie to start; cacio e pepe, a short rib stuffed pasta, and a rigatoni for a second course; and branzino and a breaded pork loin for the entree. I only got a picture of the salad because I was presenting to the group but all the food was fabulous; the pasta was sooo fresh! The dessert was a chocolate bundit and ricotta donuts which were both delicious. I'd love to come back here!

Let's start by saying this is an incredibly beautiful restaurant. Down stairs, dark great booths and bar area. The service is off the charts, so friendly, spacing out all the food, Jason was a great sever. I would have to say I loved the cappellacci with the short rib and thyme so good and great sauce. The breaded pork loin in caper lemon butter sauce was great! The ricotta donuts is an absolute must.

I will admit that I was mistaken about the supposed elegance of this restaurant. My presumption was that it would be a very refined dining experience, but to my surprise, it felt much more relaxed and energetic in the dimly lit basement - perfect for a birthday dinner. I was delighted by the Pappardelle which was our server described as a pseudo-bolognese dish. It had a great sweet flavor to it. I had a taste of the patate's which were incredible. One order was enough for each of our six to get a couple of bites. The lively ambiance + quick service + delightful food made it a great experience, and I look forward to returning in the future.

It has been a minute since we have been to Sotto but again it did not disappoint. Our server was so wonderful and knew the menu forward and back. We took every recommendation he said and it was the right move. Every part of the home made pasta was soft but flavorful. It tasted just like my trip to Italy this past summer. Of course the vibes were on pointe with the underground wine cellar. Can't wait to return

Our first visit in Cincinnati and we searched for the best restaurant in the area. Sotto has a high yelp score so we made a reservation. You must get a reservation because this place is busy! We looked at the reviews and ordered their popular dishes. Starter- black kale caesar salad, oil packed tuna. Main- wild boar pappardelle and wood fired branzino. Dessert- ricotta donut. Everything was right on as others described them- delicious, seasoned just right, rich in flavor, and just the right amount of portion to enjoy. The ricota donut has three sauces and chocolate is my favorite. Candle light on the table which made the setting so romantic. Cole our server was very sweet and engaging. Parking cost was $20 in the paid parking lot. Valet for $15 from what we were told. Overall experience was great!

    Tartare di Fassone

We had reservations at 6:30p on Saturday night during the beginning of the biggest snow storm in Cincinnati. I thought for sure folks would cancel, but no, they were still being seated when we left. That is a testament to how good this place is. We have dined here before, but this is my first review. The place is dark and lit by real candlelight. The music is upbeat and on the louder side, but not so much as to take away from conversation. Our service from Nevarre was great. He was knowledgeable, attentive, and spaced our food out perfectly. We started with two lovely glasses of wine: a Chianti and a Falanghina. For Antipasti we chose the prosciutto and arugula salad and the tartare di fassone. The salad was perfectly dressed and Italian in all ways. The tartare was fantastic!!! The breadcrumbs add crunch and the flavors were so balanced. I only wish it was served with toast points or bread. For Primi we chose the tagliatelle con porcini and the short rib cappellacci. Both dishes were DIVINE! For Secondi, we chose the branzino this time. The pork loin is fantastic, but we wanted to try the fish. It was cooked with crispy skin, a kiss of smoke from the grill, and on a bed of chippy-chopped broccolini that was a nice compliment to the fish. We took the chocolate budino home for dessert and it was good, but not a must-order. This place deserves every bit of hype it gets on all the social platforms. I highly recommend taking any out-of-town family or friends here to give them a taste of the Cincinnati restaurant scene, and what Chef David Falk is known for (Boca and Nada too).

Ambiance - You walk in and are immediately taken into another world it feels like... Night or day, the space is dimly lit by low lighting and taper candles. That was one of my favorite things. Service - From being shown our table, to our hostess, to those who delivered our food, the care for each customer was so intentional. There was never a moment our water glass wasn't being refilled once empty, or a question left unanswered. The menu was thoroughly explained to us, and once ordered, there was never a long wait between meals. At least that is my own personal opinion! They made us aware that between appetizers and the main course, there was a longer wait for the preparation of the dish that was ordered, but it felt like it went by super fast! Food - This was the section I was most excited to talk about... the FOOD. This place, I can confidently say, lives up to the hype that everyone gives it. We started with their bread (not complimentary for a heads up!) that came with olive oil, of which we also ordered a side of butter too. Their butter was even 10/10, topped with a flaky sea salt? YUM! Following that was their goat cheese and honey hazelnut bread, which was also so good. I was quite satisfied enough by the simple bread and butter though! Next came our main dish, the porterhouse. On one side was strip, the other being filet... both of which were cooked perfectly. Our sides, the same thing applies. Their potatoes are SO unique, the only thing I could compare them too was a salt and vinegar chip (very potent in that flavor, which I loved) We also had the broccolini which was simple yet perfect. The grand finale, and really was saved best for last, was their ricotta donuts. If you go to Sotto for one thing, let it be for these donuts. They are quiet literally, one of the best, softest pillowy, things I have ever tasted. They came with a pistachio cream, a chocolate sauce, and an ooey gooey salted caramel. A 100/10 from me all around for this place. Please go! Thank you Sotto for making our evening special & our tummies happy :)

    tortellini di zucca

This is probably one of my favorite more upscale dining spots in cincinnati. (although i've only been to a few and I had my first date here with my current partner so it's special) We came back for a date anniversary recently and service and food were just as great as the first time! We sat at the kitchen bar, which i initially did not like but it was actually brighter and warmer there so we settled in nicely. Kitchen staff were also super nice! Bread for the table was a grilled garlic butter bread. Something i'd love to make a grilled cheese with! Tasty. tortellini di zucca - a sweet pasta dish we both enjoyed with some nice crispy breadcrumbs. very fall forward. cappellacci - probably our favorite pasta dish so far. savory and warm, short rib was just right. sauce was delicious. bistecca fiorentina with broccolini and patate - a large steak cooked perfectly and great for sharing. the filet side was a bit tastier but strip side was still good. we usually don't like broccolini but this had really good flavor. the potatoes also surprised us with really interesting flavor and perfect crispiness. ricotta doughnuts - as delicious as everyone else says they are. nice and fluffy balls. we enjoyed all three of the sauces as well. We also ordered cioccolato manhattan, la strega, and capra viola which were all really good. We did not like notte di prugna (NA) - it just had a weird taste, almost like ketchup. the server also brought us some champagne for us to toast to our anniversary! such a lovely gesture that we appreciated. can't wait to go back!

Wow, what a great evening we enjoyed last night at Sotto. From the moment we opened the door and descended down the stairs to the 'cellar' to the last wonderful taste of gelato, our experience was fantastic. Our server was Kaitlyn, who expertly explained the menu and help us figure out how best to order and pace the meal. We eat out frequently and frankly she was the best server we've had in recent memory. The rest of the staff was phenomenal as well. Food was extremely flavorful and portions we found to be just right. As suggested by Kaitlyn, we took a sharing approach and were able to sample a variety of dishes. Great, great experience- go if you have chance.

Sooo Delicious! I mean everything was on point. From the speciality drinks to the house made pasta. We have been here on multiple occasions and Sotto never disappoints. The Cesar salad was amazing. The sweat flat bread was to die for. The service was top notch. Thanks Kaitlin!

    Ask the Community - Sotto

Is the food prepped as family style? So you order 3-4 dishes and can it be enough for two people? Or is it more of a get your own meal type thing?

It's okay to share with two but not exactly family style. We shared the polenta appetizer and a salad among three adults and it worked but two adults would've been better. The pasta dishes are definitely shareable.

    What is the chef table?

I believe the chef's table is the 4-6 seats at the small bar-like area that overlooks the kitchen. The seats are all in a row and face into the kitchen area.

I've been trying for months to get reservations for my anniversary, now a month away. What's my best bet for getting a seat at the bar?

On a Saturday night we put our names on the waitlist and they allowed us to stand at the end of the bar and have a drink while we waited. We ended up snagging actual seats at the bar within 10-15 mins!

Is it possible to still get a seat if you don't make reservations?

Yes they have some bar seating

Will I get charged if the deposit if I show up for my reservation?

If you made a deposit to make the reservation and you don't show up, you will forfeit your deposit.

Are taking home leftovers not "allowed" or just frowned upon? When we ate there in July, our waiter took all of our extras back to the kitchen without saying a word & I died a little inside. I was too nervous to ask for a to-go box lol.

We take every little bite home! Not frowned upon at all. We go at least once usually twice a month. Our servers have always asked but if one forgot, I wouldn't hesitate to ask!

I would like to give a friend a gift card to your restaurant. Do you offer these?

Hi Molly! Yes, you can absolutely give a gift card to a friend. Visit our website…

Is there a dress code here?

    No dress code.

    Is there a corking fee?

Peter, there is a $25 charge for each 750 mL bottle. You are welcome to deliver the wine early if you'd like for us to decant prior to your arrival.…

How is the food prepped for takeout? Driving a bit to help support and didn't know if they give it to you hot or if it's prepped in a way that allows you to throw in the oven when you get home (hard to do with pasta I'm sure). Thanks!

It's great Togo as well!! It's prepped ready :)

When do they plan to open again for regular dining in the restaurant?

We will re open for dine in and carry out tomorrow, Wednesday June 10th. Dine in and carry out will open for dinner hours only. Reservations can be made on Opentable.

Is this a good place for kids?

I would say it’s not ideal for kids. It tends to be a romantic dark setting. If they are a bit older and well behaved they will be fine.

Is there a bar which does not require a reservation?

We have 15 bar stools that we offer our full menu. They do not require reservation and in fact cannot be reserved.

Is There a penalty for cancelling a reservation?

I've donde in the past and never had to pay any penalty fee.

What's the dress like? Want to plan in advance!

It was nice, but casual. Plenty of women in slacks and men in khakis or nicer jeans. Saw a few women in skirts, but nothing crazy dressed up like upstairs. It's VERY dark and the ambiance is nice, so I don't think most folks would care what you wear.

Does sitting at the chef's table cost extra?

No extra cost to sit at the Chef's Table!

Does anyone know if you can get the dessert menu at their lunch? I really want some ricotta donuts but I can only get there during lunch time

Yes, you get 1 complementary ricotta donut with lunch, or you can certainly order a full order at lunch or dinner!

Because it is so exxxxxxpensive, this is not a restaurant you casually dine at. But since it was my sister's Bachelorette weekend, my group of 7 treated the bride-to-be to a luxurious dinner here in May 2026. And she had a wonderful experience! The interior is gorgeous, elegant, and smells amazing. The staff is professional and runs with the efficiency of a Michellen-starred restaurant. I always enjoy watching a staff of 7 deliver the table their food like they are performing a choreographed dance. I ordered the cheapest drink on the menu - a yummy local beer from MadTree for $7. The others had much more expensive cocktails that were $20+. You won't have to worry - while their food menu is small and selective, the drink menu is HUGE. They surprised us with glasses of in honor of my sister's upcoming nuptials. That was a lovely treat! I kept to being a cheap-o and ordered the $18 "Arpege" salad as my main. It didn't have any meat but it had a lot of cheese! Yum! Others ordered more substantial mains like the scallops, the beef tartare, the halibut, etc. All were plated beautifully. I had a bite of the bolognese, and while a small portion, it was superb. You do have to pay for bread service but it is unlimited refills so on $8, the 7 of us went through 6 loaves of bread and 6 trays of delicious salted butter. I personally probably had 2 loaves on my own. My god, it was the best thing I ate the entire trip! After we ate our mains, we then ordered a variety of desserts. Most of us got ice cream (get the strawberry!!). My sister and another girl got the famous "candy bar" dessert and the cheesecake. I had a bite of the candy bar and for $15, it was the most dense candy bar ever! Sooooo much chocolate! I'll end here but with tax and tip, we paid about $630ish. My portion was $51, by far the lowest of the group. I got out relatively cheaply because I filled up on bread but feel free to treat yourself and indulge a bit more!

It was all delicious, service was wonderful, vibes were beautiful, and I felt the food came at a good value for what we ordered. Mainstrasse in Covington is an experience and Mama's is part of that! We sat outside on the patio to take it all in- highly recommend in nice weather. The building itself is beautiful and both the inside and outside feature artsy details in the decor that I really appreciated. My favorite was the mismatched plates, which were darling and cozy! Our waitstaff was quick and friendly, allowing us to order all at once and bringing things out with great timing- quickly, but not until we finished a course so we weren't rushed. We appreciated getting in and out relatively quick as we had a sitter at home. We decided to go a little all out and try a lot of items together. First, the focaccia and ricotta was enjoyable but not my favorite bread starter I've had. It hit the spot but I wasn't raving about it like another one of my favorite whipped ricotta starters across town. The arancini, however, was fantastic- probably our favorite thing we ate. Hot, crispy, and paired with a delicious spicy marinara that was super standout and flavorful. Next we got the stonefruit panzanella, which was beautiful and really yummy. The burrata was delicious in particular and while the cherries and peaches weren't the best I've had all season, they worked well together in this dish. For our entrees, we split both the chicken parmesan and the limone pasta. The chicken parmesan was huge, we both had a large piece even after it was split. The pasta had that delicious marinara from earlier and we really enjoyed it, which is saying a lot for a simple marinara spaghetti. The chicken was very thin and crispy. I liked the limone even better- it was very lemon forward which can be hard to achieve in a creamy sauce. We only wished we tried more shapes of pasta because it's made in house and the spaghetti was the perfect level of al dente in our opinions. We were super full, but ordered the cookie platter to finish the meal. We split a couple of the 6 cookies that came in 3 varieties, but took the rest home! The chewy almond/amaretto cookie was our favorite and really unique. My husband also had an old fashioned and commented that he liked it a lot. I would have expected this much food to come out to much more than it did- $100! I feel that is a great value for a special occasion considering we were stuffed and tried a ton of menu items. Overall, this was such an indulgent and fun experience and I'd highly recommend Mama's to anyone who is looking for a yummy Italian experience with comfort food classics in a fun, cozy Covington setting.

We made a reservation for the Chef's Experience, which lets you sit by the open kitchen and watch…read morethe staff prepare the dishes. My 10 year old was really excited about it. Our reservation was at 7:30 and we arrived around 7:25. When we got there I noticed the table near the chef's counter was still occupied, but we weren't too concerned since the party already had their to-go bags on the table. About 15 minutes passed and they ended up ordering dessert (slowly), so it became clear they weren't leaving anytime soon. The manager offered us a different table and apologized, but Lola had been really looking forward to the chef's seating since that's specifically what we reserved. In the end we waited about an hour, which was frustrating, especially since the other party could clearly see we were waiting. Overall it was an awkward situation to be in. That said, the staff handled the situation very kindly. The manager offered Lola a tour of the kitchen and the chance to meet the chef. My daughter was a little nervous and wanted me to go with her, but it seemed like the invitation was meant just for her and they didn't want adults in the kitchen (I get it!). The manager noticed she was scared and took her hand and walked her through the kitchen which made my daughter feel at ease. It was a thoughtful gesture and they were incredibly apologetic the whole time. Again, it was just an awkward situation overall. Plus we were starving. The food, however, was fantastic. The pasta was made from scratch and tasted incredibly fresh. The eggplant parmigiana was excellent, and I especially loved the "Via-misu." Despite the long wait, the staff was so kind and apologetic that it actually made us want to come back and try the experience again.

I really like the arancini and meatball but did find the octopus to be overly salty. For entree I had their bone in short rib and a peppered pinwheel sausage as a side. I really like both, but my one knock on it was that the sauce used for the short rib was pretty strong
