Located in the Northwest of Downtown Phoenix, Sosoba is about a mile away from Phoenix Convention Center, so about a 15-20 min leisurely walk. We were greeted right as we walked in and were told menus could be viewed by scanning QR codes. We ordered fried cauliflower which wasn't crispy but the sauce was delicious and the portion was pretty good for $13. I got the Mic Drop! with ramen and my friend got Hostile Takeover. These were both the foulest tasting ramens we've ever had in our lives. As advertised these were definitely not traditional. The Mic Drop ($16) had pork belly, carnitas, chicharron, ham, kimchi, soft boiled egg, and bacon. One of the meats was dressed in a buffalo like sauce (interesting) and the bacon was soggy and bland. The broth was also underwhelming; not spicy or savory and it lacked the tonkotsu pork taste. I got ramen noodles and the texture was off, a bit overcooked. The egg was slightly less than hard boiled. I liked the spam fry looking ham slices. The acidity from the kimchi didn't complement the dish but it's better enjoyed on the side. 1/5 The Hostile Takeover ($16) was indeed hostile. The broth was bland and noodles were cooked the same as my bowl. The "bulgogi beef" was very salty soy marinated sliced beef. I've never had a "Japanese" style beef bulgogi so this was definitely different. 0/5 Our server Angelique was attentive and friendly, although she started speaking to us in a baby voice towards the end of our meal, don't know what that was about, but she was still kind. I would not recommend SoSoBa if you're looking for an authentic bowl of ramen, but I enjoyed the fried cauliflower a lot and it looks like it might be a cool place to get drinks late at night. read more

This would have been better with rice as it is really rich. My girl never finishes a meal, which is usually a bonus for me, but she disappeared that Ramen like she hadn't eaten in a month. The spring rolls kind of tasted like frozen rolls, and the katsu ramen had a sauce over the small strips of chicken that tasted completely off putting from the rest of the bowl. I like how they have rice noodles, so I can have gluten free ramen. I dont love how saucy their spicy edamame is, but that may be preferance. Chefs kiss. It was so delicious especially on a chilly day like yesterday. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was flavorful and not too salty. My 5 year old got the beef bao buns and was obsessed. I took a bite and agree they were in fact so savory and delicious. We sat at the bar and got to watch all of the kitchen activities, which my daughter enjoyed. The place was cozy and cute and very "downtown" vibes. Our server was friendly and everything was good. I enjoyed their ramen, when I add the crispy chicken to it. For sure filled with lots of flavor and delicious! The place is a bit hidden and small, but it feels cozy with the closed space. The service was okay. My friend had a friendly server at first and then she was fine and was replaced with someone else. He dropped off our ramen dishes and didn't ask us anything and was gone. Service was great and ramen was decent. I really like to point out some fun beers from Lucky Chicken Red Ale and Lucky Dog IPA! We started out with some eggrolls, shishito peppers, Sriracha garlic wings, and fried cauliflowers. My favorite was the fried cauliflowers; fried and doused with General Tao and sesame seed sauce. It was aromatic along with some crunch! The Sriracha garlic wings burnt a hole in my mouth it was so spicy. Either that or I'm just being a weenie! For my noodle bowl, I went with the Mic Drop; udon noodles, tonkotsu pork broth, pork belly, carnitas, ham, bacon, chicharron, kimchi, and an egg. The broth was spot on and this was definitely not your typical udon noodle bowl. The pork belly and bacon was a nice touch! Not a fan of the kimchi or the carnitas. Kimchi can be overpowering while the carnitas didn't really provide much to the bowl in my opinion. Overall, it was cool to see the different ingredients on this spin of a traditional dish, but for me it was either a hit or miss. In the end, SoSoba is cool spot for some drinks and fun bites. I know they mean well but skip thism Their qr code didn't work, the calamari (still swimming) served over lettuce was so salty and over dressed, not to mention the service, leaves much to be desired. The konbu mushroom broth they say is good is too salty. We tried it without food as a trial and we said it'd a bit salty. Even with other watered down ingredients, it was a no. Also who puts carrots in ramen? No one. Where was the seaweed? Not present. I asked for no broccoli and so they took all the veggies out But the broccoli....? Your math ain't matching. Mic drop was 1 note - non descript meat. Where was the bone broth? I can't say I've ever had such flat ramen. The noodles were OK but nothing special, it must of been from a package. Another patron was sitting outside, and he came back in the restaurant and asked, "hey how does this place work?" Because he still hadn't been served. It was a mess. The lemonades were way over flavored and could have easily made 2 more drinks. Last, the water was great but teach the serves more about the menu. You work here, at least know what is in each bowl. Ambiance? It's more a bar than a place to sit down and eat. Maybe don't play "WAP" in your restaurant. Class it up. This place leave so so so much to be desired. read more

My wife and sister and I visited this restaurant during the Halfsie hour on Thursday, the 9th of 2025. We waited over an hour for our food, which never arrived. When we arrived, we sat outside and placed our order after a 10-minute wait. Since it was cold, we decided to go inside and inform our waitress that we would be coming in. After 40 minutes, our waitress returned and asked if we had received our food. We informed her that we hadn't. She seemed surprised and then explained that it was taking a long time because "we switched tables." However, we had clearly advised her that we were switching tables. Ten minutes later, we barely received our appetizers. We ate them, hoping that our food would arrive soon, but 20 minutes later, it still hadn't come. Disappointed and upset, we decided to leave. I'm particularly upset because the food here is delicious, and we're regular customers. However, the service on that day was unacceptable. No one acknowledged our frustration or offered any compensation for the inconvenience caused. Instead, they simply stared at us as we left. read more

Sweet Chili Calamari: perfectly fried calamari, good amount of sweet chili sauce, and balanced with the mixed greens...highly recommend.
