Scallop crudo
Nan V.

Great spot for some Malaysian food. We tried the scallop crudo, slaw and the flat noodle dish. Scallop crudo was okay in my opinion, I felt the roasted garlic overpowered the flavours. The slaw was really good with the 20 ingredients and the dressing goes well together. The flat noodle dish was good as well, I have a shrimp allergy and the chef was able to cook the shrimp after. Appreciate that! Service and our waiter were great! Accommodated our requests and when we were there there was a group that was really loud and there was time it was hard to hear my partner.

Had dinner with some friends here on a Sunday, the restaurant was spacious and we were able to get a table for 4 without reservation. The restaurant was clean with friendly staff. We ordered the: Prosperity tossed slaw - $24 - this was a little pricy for the amount of slaw given but I thought it was really unique and delicious (8/10) Dhal & roti - $14 - simple but delicious, the curry wasn't very spicy and the roti was fresh and delicious (8/10) Satay Babi - $27 - I was really surprised with this dish, the peanut sauce was delicious and the pork was really tender and soft (9/10) Char Kway Teow - $26 - this rice noodle dish was pretty tasty, with good flavour, my only complaint was that it felt pretty small (7/10) Rendang Beef - $38 - the beef was tender and soft, I found the sauce to be just a little too salty but went well with the rice and the delicious turmeric cabbage (7/10) Overall I really enjoyed dinner at Soos and I feel like there's not too many Malaysian restaurants in Toronto, I definitely recommend!

Honestly didn't feel like there was a single miss tonight. The chicken tacos were substantial and had a nice curry flavouring, umami bomb. The kar puff was perfectly crispy and the filling was delicious. The slaw was sweet and sour and salty. The pork chop really impressed with its size, cooked perfectly and the sauce just paired so well. The char kway teow was tasty, with a smoky flavourful, maybe the least impressive of the night but still delicious. We got the sago and tiramisu to celebrate a birthday. The sago has a wonderful syrup. The tiramisu was huge, rich and the cocoa nibs helped cut through the richness by adding that bitter bite.

Finally tried Soos and it did not disappoint! Cozy modern Malaysian spot on Ossington with a great vibe. Cocktails were creative and well-priced, and the food was both beautiful and delicious. Standouts: the Char Kway Teow (smoky, savory, perfectly wok-charred) and the Rendang Beef. Presentation was stunning too - the mango sticky rice looked too pretty to eat. What we ordered: Smoked Juniper ‍ Sarawak Sour Rendang Beef Char Kway Teow They also offer a "Feed Me" tasting menu I'll be back to try. Highly recommend for date night or if you want to explore Malaysian food in Toronto!

Came here on last Friday as my friends wanted to treat me for my birthday and was promptly greeted by the friendly staffs. We came as a group of 5, and they were quite accommodating in serving the dishes so it feeds 5. Kapitan Chicken Tacos 3.5/5 Great juicy chicken loaded on top of a taco shell. It was nothing "wow"ing, but it was good. Dhal & Roti 3/5 I wish they had roti on the menu for Rendang! We ended up saving most of it for the Rendang which went REALLY well together. The Dhal was good, but again, nothing special. The portion did seem a bit low to share 5 rotis as well. Rempah Fried Mushroom 5/5 One of the best dishes from Soos. The combination of this hot, sweet, and umami filled dish was amazing. I loved the combination of everything and when I go back, I am definitely having this again. Sambal Chili 3.5/5 We ordered a side of Sambal Chili and I considered getting the jar but it tasted more like garlic chili oil than anything. It had a pretty good kick to it, but it wasn't really a sauce. Rendang Braised Short Rib 3.75/5 The Rendang was quite tasty, and the meat was quite soft. It just did not hit the spot for me as much as I thought it would. Char Kway Teow 5/5 This was an amazing dish. Added some Sambal Chili for some extra kick, and it tasted even better. Star of the night along with the mushrooms. Kopi Tarik Tiramisu 3/5 The portion was pretty big! I had pretty high expectations, but I would probably not order it again. I think I like my tiramisu a bit more soaked in coffee, and I found this to have a lot of cream that felt quite redundant towards the end. Overall, the service was solid and the food was pretty good as well. Would love to come back again now that I know some of the dishes that I really like!

We visited Soos on a weekend night for a birthday celebration. It so happened to be Ossfest, so there was an insane crowd outside, and the door was opened, so it was extremely loud. This made it hard to have any conversation inside the restaurant, but I can tell that if there was no festival, the ambiance would have been fantastic as the interior had a cozy and modern feel to it. We ordered a combination of small plates and large plates in order to try everything. This is what we had: 1. Dhal & Roti - this was fantastic! The roti was delicate yet had a nice crisp to it and was the perfect vehicle for the dhal. I would definitely get this again. It was also a hit for the group. 2. Kapitan Chicken Tacos - also another fan favourite. The lemongrass chicken was sooo good. My only complaint is that it's way too small, give me more! 3. Sarawak Pepper Prawns - juicy prawns with pineapple. A tad bit heavy on the pepper. 4. Satay Babi - another great dish! The cucumber was refreshing. 5. Rendang Braised Short Rib - the short rib was good, but the curry tasted very light. Not sure if this is how it is in Malaysian cuisine, but we all expected the curry to pop a bit more. 6. Cod in Opor - cod was great, but same with the short rib, the broth didn't really pack a punch and tasted a bit bland 7. Char Kway Teow - one of the best dishes of the night! The flavors were all there and something I would for sure order again. 8. Pisang Goreng - Fried banana goodness! It tasted amazing with the ice cream. A must try dessert. 9. Sago Sago - the presentation was absolutely gorgeous, and it was delicious. No complaints. Overall, there are a lot more hits than misses, but the prices are quite high for the portion sizes. If you're thinking of sharing it family style, one large plate is probably good for 2 to 3 people if you'll be ordering multiple dishes. I'm glad I got to try Soos after hearing great things about it.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday night for a friends bday party. At first glance the place looked very small but cozy, we sat at the back room where I assume they host larger parties/ is their "private area". We got to try the tasting menu that consists of 8 courses: Scrumptious Cakes 8/10 Kari Puff 9/10 Chicken Tacos 10/10 Chili Broccoli & Cauliflower 5/10 Pork belly Pancakes 7.5/10 Slaw 6.5/10 Kway Teow 10/10 Braised Short Ribs 9/10 Everything was overall very delicious, food came fast and the service was good.

Always a great time at Soos As a Malaysian with parents from Penang, the Char Koay Teow hits the spot I've tried this dish everywhere else that serves it but this hits the closest to what I had back home. Love coming here for special occasions, the restaurant has a fancy upscale vibe to it. I cannot wait for their patio if/when they'll have it this year. Food: 9.5/10 (only for the CKT) Service: 7/10 Ambiance: 8.5/10

Soos is one of my all-time favourite restaurants in Toronto - and in a city full of great food, that is a statement in itself. The food is authentic Malaysian, and the service is top-notch. We recently hosted a birthday dinner in their private room, and the night was delightful. From booking through to the night, the experience was amazing. The staff were so attentive and catered to allergies and food preferences seamlessly. Our needs were anticipated without us having to ask for anything; it was a fabulous night! The feed me tasting menu is an absolute must - every dish is delicious - highlights, the roti and Dahl, the rending and the laksa. If you have not been yet get there this restaurant does not disappoint on any level!

We came here on friends recommendation and were amazed! We went for 'Feed Me' option. It's a 6 course meal and got to try various dishes like daal-roti, pad Thai, mushroom bao, tofu, pasta etc. Each dish was amazing and I would definitely recommend each of the dishes.

Pisang Goreng

Amazing food and service! The prices are expected for a downtown restaurant and the absolute care to each detail that the restaurant brings to these authentic Malaysian dishes. We started the Scrumptious cakes (Chwee Kueh), which was my favorite dish of the night. Four white rice cakes are topped with salted turnip & sambal chili. The rice cakes are impossibly soft but is sharply balanced by the intense flavor and crunch of the fried turnips. My partner hasn't had this dish in over 20 years, so it was a definite hit around the table. The Murtabak are two rotis sandwiching spiced potato, chickpea, onion, and egg, served with a delicate light curry. I appreciate that the curry was on the lighter side as it did not compete with the delicate flavors of the Murtabak. The Char Kway Teow and the Banana leaf fish (Ikan Bakar) were the main dishes. The Char Kway Teow had the much sought after 'wok air' taste which brought a delicate char to the noodles. Four plump tiger prawns topped the dish and was promptly gobbled up. The fish was great also, both in it's crispy skin and soft moist meat. I really liked the sour notes of the tamarind okra, which paired so well with the fish and rice. We could have ordered another round of everything, but decided to end with the Pork belly pancakes. The braised soft pork belly basically melts the moment you eat it. Thankfully instead of the usual soft bun that this dish comes with, the chef has made the innovative move to serve it on a thin crisp taro pancake. The crunch balances out the soft meat so well! We ended the night with a sweet note of the Pisang Goreng, two fried bananas with a scoop of lovely icecream. Heads up that some of the dishes pictured on Yelp are not available during this time (Laksa, Sago, Nasi Lemak) . Partially because key ingredients are not available for import and partially because the chef refuses to compromise on quality. Just means that we will be back when they are available again.

This is not your average Asian place with large portions and/or low prices, but the food is good. They have the best char kway teow (Malaysian fried broad rice noodles) of the 13 I've had in the GTA. Also the most expensive, but you're paying for quality. Great smoky wok flavour, 4 large shrimp, lots of egg & authentic ingredients (including the chives which many places leave out). This would be rated good quality even in Malaysia. The murtabak was not murtabak (a stuffed pancake) but was instead 2 roti with meat & potato curry inside, served with a curry dip/drizzle. The roti were flaky & the meat & potato curry pretty tasty. There was some tartar sauce on top which was a bit weird but tasted OK. Pisang goreng (fried banana) was very good - sweet with a perfect soft banana texture & a light & crispy batter. The ice cream it was served with was decent. Had their Chinese New Year set earlier in the year. It wasn't as good (with the exception of the shrimp) but the food doesn't survive takeout well.

Decor isn't really anything to write home about, it's not why we came here. The roti canai was super delicious. Roti was flaky and buttery, the curry nicely spiced and waiting to be sopped up by the roti. The Indonesian fried rice was recommended by the staff and it didn't disappoint. Char Kwei Teow was nice, the wok hei was very apparent here as well as the Kang Kung Belacan (water spinach). The hainanese chicken while tasty was very bony (menu said it had bones). Desserts were a perfect way to end the meal

Hokkien mee had a lot of tasty rich sauce, but no smoky wok flavour. There were two small red…read morepepper cubes. There were a lot of ingredients: cabbage, carrot, choy sum, shrimp, chicken, fish cake & squid. The squid was quite rubbery. The fish cake was not springy. There was a lot of it, maybe to replicate the look even if not the taste & texture of pork. Apam balik was good: pretty thin & crispy, though stickier than average. The filling was quite generous & tasty but the peanuts were pale & tasted a bit raw. Ayam percik: the chicken itself was very tender & juicy & pretty tasty. The curry was rich but a little generic. Char kway teow was good: quite flavourful though it could have a stronger flavour. There was some wok hei. The fish cake was slightly springy & there was quite a bit of squid. There were some chives but they don't serve it on a banana leaf anymore. Fried squid in nonya sauce was pretty tasty & quite spicy. It'd be better with okra or eggplant, not peppers. There was quite a bit of dried shrimp in it (fried squid is stir fried & crispy squid deep fried). Chicken rice rice was pretty good: moist enough & quite gingery. The chicken flavour could be stronger. Chendol was pretty good with rich palm sugar & coconut milk. There were green worms & grass jelly but no red bean. Nonya kueh was pretty good: they looked dodge but tasted about right though they were a bit soft. They have 2 versions of Nasi Lemak. The more expensive version has curry chicken, keropok & peanuts unlike the economy version (which does come with a banana leaf, though). The rice was not very fragrant but the curry was very rich so the smell kind of made up for it. It was not super tasty but was above average & moist enough. The curry was tasty & very rich but had a lot of bone fragments & was annoying to eat; the majority of mouthfuls had at least 1 bone fragment. It is a bad idea to put the curry & peanuts in your mouth at the same time. Sambal had a lot of ikan bilis with some onion but little liquid. It was pretty good though if you like to put it as a paste on your rice you will be disappointed. Keropok was very crispy & pretty tasty.

We were seated right away and menus provided at the same time. There was a Lunch Special menu but we decided to order full portions from the regular menu. We were able to order right away and our drinks and ice water were brought out. Our food was brought out fairly quickly, all of it being hot. Roti is a must order item! The noodles were also very tasty with the shrimp not being overcooked. Fried chicken was crispy on the outside and nice and juicy inside. Service was attentive with the servers checking on us every so often and clearing empty plates away. When we were done eating, the server packed up our leftovers for us instead of just giving us containers. You can pay by card or cash, but just be advised that they do not accept $100 bills. Parking was pretty easy to get a spot that wasn't too far from the entrance.

We were quickly seated and the service was really attentive and appreciated. At around 6-630pm the restaurant began to quickly fill with couples and families. We had the chicken and shrimp Pad Thai and the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goring. We really enjoyed the fried chicken, coconut rice of the Nasi Lemak Ayam Goring, and the amount of spice in the sambal onion and anchovies. The noodles in the Pad Thai had a firm texture which we liked, but for me the sauce was a bit sweet. If coming to the restaurant from 6pm on a weekend, the parking lot is very busy and you could be circling for a parking spot and having to move around vehicles that are double parked for take-out orders.

(I also got a milk tea to drink, and it was really good. Very rich but not too sweet.) The sandwiches were both excellent. They were packed with flavor and the various components all worked really well together. The Malaysian Street Style did flirt with being just a little too sweet, but it was balanced out with the other components. Everything was decently priced, too. The bill, with tip, came out to around 25 bucks, which is great considering the quantity and caliber of food we were given.
