Solid local spot for Korean street food vibes. The SGV lacks in Korean food, so I'm glad this gives another option to pick from. I really liked the gimbap. To me, it had the right amount of seasoning and perfect for sharing or just having all to yourself! We also ordered the rose ttebbokki, which the staff member said it wasn't spicy. I'm someone with terrible spice tolerance and there was definitely a slight kick to this. Not crazy spicy but you'll notice it right away if you have a low spice tolerance like me. Otherwise I enjoy the mix of not only the rice cakes but also the fish cakes and sausage in here. The sweet rice drink was also the right amount of sugar. But I'm a fan overall! We were able to find parking right away. When you enter the restaurant, the staff greets you right away and mentions to take any table. We used the restroom by going through the kitchen. Both the kitchen and restroom were super clean. Soonheene offers the typical Korean street food. The staff recommended the fried chicken wings with soy garlic and honey butter. Both of the flavors were delicious. We also ordered tteokbooki, mayak gimbap, bbq beef, and sweet rice drink. Delicious Korean street food restaurant! I must preface this review with the fact that this plaza has one of the worst parking situations known to mankind. So many businesses and restaurants in such a small plaza and no parking whatsoever. Just park across the street and walk because it was super difficult to drive around and not worth the stress of even attempting. You can order at their kiosk and the buzzer will ring when your food is ready. It's semi-self-serve where you can help yourself to the water and tea (if they didn't run out) and you place all of your dirty plates and silverware on a cart near the exit. Since we were going to have dinner later on, we just got the Rose Tteokbokki. Super big serving that is more than enough for 2 people and it came out super piping hot! The Rose Tteokbokki was nice and creamy and not too spicy, nice tomato flavoring to it too. There was a generous amount of rice cake, fish cake, hot dog wieners, and some other meats (small slices of ham and Spam, I believe), as well as cabbage too. Good stuff. This place was really great for a good quick meal. We ordered the bbq beef, spicy pork and the boneless soy garlic fried chicken. The beef was really tasty. The portions were pretty big. It comes with rice and a salad. It's probably almost enough for two people. The spicy pork was also really tasty. It had just the right amount of spiciness. That also came with rice and salad. I had stopped by when they had their grand opening in 2021, but didn't get to order since they were out of what I wanted. They were set up as a pick up and to-go spot, and given the very small parking lot to jostle for a spot, I didn't return until my friend suggested catching up at Soonheene for dinner. They now have several tables for dine in and I was super happy to see that they used bowls and plates for your order if you dine in (though they use disposable utensils when bringing you your order). They also have a self-service area for iced water and iced barley tea and they use metal cups! Yay! I came on a weekday at 6 pm and there was a lull as there was no wait. As it got closer to 6:30 pm - 7 pm, all the tables filled up! Lots of orders coming in for pick-up though, so if you don't want to wait for a table, order to go. Since it's my first time here, I got almost everything, haha! The order included: * shrimp mung bean pancake ($14.99) * #15 combo of rose tteokbokki and mayak gimbap ($23.99) * oden fish cake soup ($9.99) * 5 pc wings soy garlic ($8.99) * diet coke with Yelp check-in If not for the Yelp check-in offer, I would've placed the order on their self-service kiosk. Luckily, since we beat the rush, the food came out at a consistent pace. I had really wanted the mayak gimbap and the fish cake soup but since there was no combo for both, price-wise it made sense to do the combo with the rose tteokbokki. And it is heavenly to get all three! The mayak gimbap comes with a dipping sauce, but it's just as good if not better to dip it in the tteokbokki. If you don't want the usual spice of regular tteokbokki, the rose tteokbokki has been my go-to instead as it has the hint of spice without the usual burn. Soonheene's tteokbokki had very generous amounts of fish cake and sausage suporting the rice cakes, so it's my favorite iteration of this dish thus far. The oden fish cake soup came with three skewers of fish cake and fish cake tofu in a bowl of hot yummy soup and that was pretty solid. I've never had anything like the mung bean pancake and it was good to have a protein in it for additional texture and flavor. It's best eaten when hot and crisp, otherwise, it's a bit dense the next day. The soy garlic wings were crisp and hot and full of flavor. Obviously, the order was enough for two people to get a variety of options, but that did leave no room for some sides nor dessert. Maybe some gimmari and taiyaki next time! read more

I have been here twice and I feel it was better the first time around. I ordered pretty much the same thing both times. The only nice thing is that they use actual bowls when serving their dish when eating dine in. We got the whole chicken, since we can pick 2 different flavor. They cut their chicken in small pieces and it has a nice batter. I kinda wish they put a bit more sauce since it looks like they just drizzle than toss their sauce. And some chicken is dry inside. The tteokboki and the fish cake soup are very good. Pricey for the fish cake soup, since those are very cheap ingredient.Besides that very good flavor. Parking: There's a small parking lot dedicated to 1-4 stores in the small plaza so most people just park on the side streets. It's hard to find parking even on the side streets so it'll take awhile. Service: A self serve place! Interior is mostly styled like a restaurant, but service is like a cafeteria. Order at with the cashier then find a open table. Once your food is ready, just pick up. Grab your water and cup at the water station. Mung Bean Pancake: Pancake was on the crispier side, texture tastes a little bit harder compared to a normal Korean pancake. Mung bean powder is drier than all purpose flour so the pancake is not usually chewy. Korean Fried Chicken (5 pieces, soy garlic): Their chicken is nicely dipped in sweet and savory, fried freshly and so crispy. Would highly recommend getting this dish. The small place was feature in a Korean TV show so it became popular and they like to advertise it on the wall. The server was very kind and helpful but seemed like she needed help as she was the only one working the front. She killed the service though, as she took online orders, stocked everything, cashiered and passed out the food as it came out to the tables. The have complimentary barley tea and ice water but serve canned drinks for sale. We tried the rose tteokbokki, bulgogi and the gimbap. All very delicious but the only bad things was the white rice that came with the bulgogi, it was hard or old. Will def come back again to explore their wing menu and flavors. There's a small spot near my neighborhood that reminded me of the tteokbokki and kimbap I used to eat when I was a kid, so I decided to stop by -- and it really left a great impression! Even though it was dinner time, the restaurant was pretty quiet inside. It seemed like they mostly get takeout orders, so I'm not sure how busy they usually are. But the food was truly excellent. I really hope more people -- especially those who aren't familiar with Korean street food -- get to discover this kind of flavor. It's delicious and nostalgic, something worth experiencing. Got the tonkatsu to go & it was really delicious! The crust on the cutlet was perfectly crisp. I would like to come back and try their other items when I'm in the area. Minor negative - I'm not sure if they were having phone issues or something, but I called 3-4 different times to place to order and no one picked up. There also seems to be two numbers (one on Yelp and the one on their website), which I tried both. I ended up going in person to place the order and wait, which was a little inconvenient & it didn't seem too busy in there. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to you. I had the gimbap and the shrimp mung bean pancake. Tea and water are self-serve at the counter. This location is also combined with a chicken shop if you want chicken as well. The restaurant itself is smallish but they still have a decent number of tables. I had the combo that came with these 3 items. Mayak Gimbap - Rice was moist and the wasabi type sauce it came with was tasty. I enjoyed it. (4.5/5) Tteokbokki - A simple classic with good flavors. Not spicy at all and came with fish cakes. It's basic but it's good. Tons of carbs! (4/5) Oden - Was super comforting. Broth had good flavor and the fish cake was delicious. Another pretty simple dish but is pretty comfort food. (4/5) If you do a yelp checkin you also get a free soda which I got a Diet Coke. Soonheene, which took over the old Taipan Bakery location, can be found in the same plaza as Mochinut and Chung Chung with parking available (although can be limited if you come when the plaza is busy). My husband and I came by this small eatery this past Friday, around 7:30 pm. After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering the following to go: Seafood (Shrimp) Mung Bean Pancake, $14.99 prior to tax- Although this is a seafood pancake, there is only shrimp and not an assortment of seafood. I still liked this pancake but it was pretty oily (which is to be expected). Boneless Chicken, $11.99 prior to tax. Shown with Honey Butter flavor (dry seasoning)- The chicken was the main star of our meal. The flavor of the honey butter was really good and thought the portion size was perfect to share with 2- 3 people. Taiyaki, 4 for $10 prior to tax- The flavors I ended up picking were 2 Nutella, one cheese and one red bean. I tried both the cheese and the red bean. I think the cheese one was just okay but the red bean ended up being my favorite. My mom liked the Nutella one. Taiyaki really is best consumed when made but you can also just as easily reheat it in the toaster oven (like I did the day after I ordered this) and still taste just as good. ------------------------- (Total= $40.77 after tax) Wait time was closer to 20 minutes after ordering (but understandable since my order was made fresh). One thing I didn't like was that there was no restroom available for use. The employee who took my order told me that the restroom was blocked, which I didn't understand and said that I couldn't use the restroom. I am not sure if this was just a fluke or if they normally do not allow customers to use their restroom. I think the prices are a little high but I think that seems to be the going price for Korean street food. I would like to come back to try their gimbap and fish cake soup. The food was just okay. My family ordered the oden soup + tteokbokki, spicy pork BBQ, beef BBQ, udon noodles, and the Mayak Gimbap. Sadly, the oden soup was very bland, and both the spicy pork and beef BBQ were excessively oily. The udon noodle soup had a thick layer of oil on top, which was unappetizing. The highlight of the meal was the Gimbap, but I wish it had more meaty toppings like ham or sausage. Another thing to note this restaurant is entirely self-serve. You order at the counter, pick up your food when it's ready, and clean up after yourself. When I realized this, I tipped 10%, which I felt was more than fair. However, the staff actually questioned why I only tipped 10%, which was uncomfortable. Considering all they do is hand you the food from a small window to the counter, I think 10% was generous. The order took about 20 minutes. The tteokbokki rice cakes were chewy and tasted really good with the flavorful sauce. It also came with fish cake. The fish cake soup was really comforting and also came with fish tofu. The gimbap were tasty and came with a dipping sauce that paired well with it.
