The enticing open windows and seats outside were a huge draw for many people. The Aperol Spritz is something that they represent on the umbrellas outside. Ate at the bar, great service. Ordered a pizza and a burger, unsatisfied to say the least. Burger had little flavor and fries were mediocre. Pizza could have been skipped all together. read more

10/16/21 Service - 5 / Ambiance - 5 / Food - 4 / Price - 4 Reservations Y Outdoor Seating Y COVID - All staff wear masks, and the tables are sanitized between parties. The open door format helps with air circulation. Super popular, adorable French inspired, open door brunch spot. They do walk-ins but I would definitely recommend making a reservation. Their menu primarily consists of brunch items with some burger options. They do have a lunch menu that looks good, but it is not served until the evening. Food Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict 4/5 The waitress got my order wrong but was able to get me my correct order within less than 5 minutes. It is your standard smoked salmon eggs benedict. The hollandaise sauce was well balanced in flavor and didn't feel too heavy. There was a generous amount of smoked salmon, enough for salmon in every bite. The side potatoes were deliciously buttery and tender. Sonsie Burger 4/5 My friend got the Sonsie burger and I actually quite liked it. The guajillo aioli gave the burger a smoky flavor, and roasting the tomato mellowed out the flavors to complement the rest of the ingredients. Do not expect a light, fresh burger as the bacon and arugula makes it extra buttery and rich. Drinks Spicy Bloody Mary 3/5 You have the option between the regular or spicy Bloody Mary. It is your standard Blood Mary with a kick, which was unique. There was a good amount of vodka in it but it wasn't anything special. *All ratings are out of 5 read more

I had decent hopes for this place because I know it's on a tourist street but thought I'd give it a try. Our waitress was very sweet. But the food...honestly...was really just okay. I went for brunch and got the two eggs any style combo. The toast was stale, bacon was dry, but the potatoes were quite yummy. And the eggs were eggs. Truthfully there are WAY better brunch areas in Boston. The location of this place is convenient but if you're looking for quality and value this place isn't it. At least for brunch. read more

Overall, food was great but didn't wow me. Came for dinner, I ordered the bolognese and it was rich and flavorful (with a hint of spice!). Pricing was a bit variable--some menu items (like the pizza) were very reasonably priced, whereas others were a bit more expensive than I would have expected. Location is very cute! Next time would like to come for brunch. read more

We could have been in Paris. All of the bistro tables and chairs were facing the street in open air while we watched the world walk by. Wonderful service and food. read more

Came here with a group of friends while visiting Boston and was lucky enough to snag a table inside for a Saturday brunch! Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures, but I remember ordering the: - Breakfast sandwich (5/5): Sooo good - everything from the sausage to the spicy mayo was on point. Just wished this came with a side of potatoes or fries! Huge restaurant with a great brunch selection! Sonsie will forever be a memorable place as after we sat down at our table, we realized that Maya Rudolph was sitting right next to us with her family! So definitely recommend this spot - you never know who you'll run into here! read more

I made reservations for this place about a month ago online. It was easy to find and free parking available a couple blocks by. Restaurant was beautiful. The natural lighting is beautiful and the overall "urban" ambiance was exactly what I was hoping to find. Service was fantastic and the food exceeded my expectations. I got the banana French toast and my fiancé ordered the sonsie burger. We both were very satisfied with the food. Love this place! The atmosphere is wonderful. 10/10. If I were a local resident, I'd definitely be a regular at this perfect brunch place! read more

I'm from Kansas... First time coming here to Massachusetts. During this Halloween weekend my fiancé and I decided to stop and eat here at Sonsie, the atmosphere is incredible, the tables in the front room all face the front windows (therefore you are sitting next to your partner/whoever if a party of two plus the natural light from the sun shines in)! Very nice place, the mimosas were top tier, food was incredible, and the waiter was interesting!!! - Will be telling others about my experience. Thank you, Thomias Jackson read more

we did a few rounds of apps and entrees to split between four of us and these were great! meat in the bao was tender and my friends were so obsessed w the deep fried ball things that they ordered another round (a lil too rich for me but no hate). chips got soggy too fast and flavors kinda clashed if it sat for too long read more

This place is known for his ambience and view of Newbury st. You can reserve a table in advance online or walk in and ask for a table in the front. There's about 10 or so tables that face the front but only four main tables that are at the front facing the street. You pay for the ambience and view of the street (you can people watch lol) since it's a big glass window (during the summer it's completely open so you can breathe the fresh air in). Basically the food is okay, decent normal American food and some appetizers here and there, but can be pretty pricey. You pay for the views/ambience really but I have been twice and it's worth it in my opinion. read more

I loved my time at Sonsie! Brunch on a busy fall Saturday. Let me tell you, from hostess greeting to the check presentation, the Sonsie staff was on top of its game. Our 4 top was seated before our reservation time. Server was right there (again is busy in here) to get drink orders. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed our various dishes--traditional eggs benedict for me. Manager made a table visit about halfway thru our meal. A lot of negative reviews dot the Yelp page of Sonsie. I couldn't disagree more...this restaurant hit on all cylinders on our visit. Next time I'm back in Boston, I will absolutely dine here again! read more

Great place if you're looking for a classier brunch or a nice dinner date out. Absolutely beautiful setting with patio doors that open up to the outside. It gets pretty crowded for brunch and weeknight dinner times so I would recommend grabbing a reservation! Love the little muffins they serve before your brunch meal. The food isn't anything mind-blowing but it's just solid brunch/dinner food. Located on Newbury street. read more

Nice food, service, and ambiance at Sonsie for brunch! I was seated quickly and got a good look around the restaurant-- nice modern decor and spacious place. I ordered French toast and it was delicious! Piled high with bananas and cream, it was a sweet treat worth having. Ordering the fries as a side was a good idea so the salt could cut through the immense sweetness of my main dish. The pancake was decent, too saturated with syrup in my opinion, and the dates on top were a questionable addition. I would definitely go to Sonsie again to try their non-brunch items. read more

A gorgeous place to relax and people watch on Newbury. I used to live right down the street and would frequent Sonsie for brunch and happy hour. It's a bustling place with people always coming in and out so you may have to wait for a table, even with a reservation, and service can be slow at times. The drinks and coffee here are *amazing* and reasonably priced - during the summers, they often have a $5 drink of the week ( would highly recommend the frose). I got the corned beef hash with sweet potato for brunch but it didn't come with any sweet potatoes? The food seems to be hit or miss, but I've always had great luck with the pizzas! read more

I ordered the Steak Frites and Espresso martini at Sonsie and both were quite good. The servers were attentive to our needs and the other dishes on the menu I'm told by my colleagues were great as well. Service was great! Food was also great and large portions. The vibe was fun but not loud.

I made a reservation for two for a Sunday brunch at 1PM via Opentable earlier in the week. I got to the restaurant a little earlier than my friend and a few minutes before 1PM, so I decided to just check in with the front of house to let them know I was there. I was greeted warmly and then gave her my last name to look up. She said I didn't appear in the system. I showed her the confirmation I received from OpenTable and after taking a look, she said it wouldn't be a problem and that we would get seated as soon as my friend arrived. Sure enough, as soon as my friend arrived, we were seated immediately. Not sure if this was a glitch on OpenTable or Sonsie's system, but the staff handled it very well and were very gracious. Once we were seated, we probably had to wait another 10 minutes or so before our server came to introduce themselves and fill our waters. The place seemed moderately busy, but I know that Sonsie is typically used to handling full houses so I'm not sure if they were understaffed at that time of the day. I ordered the eggs benedict while my friend ordered their nutella/banana french toast. We also ordered two frozen rosé (because why not). The food came out in a reasonable time and our frozen rosé's were a little stronger than we expected. Overall the mean was enjoyable and while we weren't blown away, we were still very satisfied. Ambiance was really nice although it can get loud in there due to the close-quarters seating and the music. Definitely a good place for a brunch and I would be up for another visit soon. read more

We came here for an early dinner. It was a long wait to get seated but we wanted to dine here seeing it was packed. We were seated in the booths in the back that seemed less crowded than the rest of the space. It took awhile for the server to bring our waters, and we also had to wait more than usual for our foods. The food quality and presentation is okay/mediocre and actually was a little bit hard to see because it is very dim, especially towards the back seating area. read more

Great spot on Newbury. Happy with food and drinks. Ordered the pizzas, classic pizzas such as Margherita was tasty however the Signature Burger pizza was just meh for me. We Yelp'd this spot for a post-game (Fenway) pizza. Yelp hours indicate open until 1am and we arrived at about 10:40pm. The hostess explained the limited menu for the time we arrived and pizza was an option so we stayed. The waitress was not friendly and made us feel like a burden. The pizza was 5 stars while the service was not awesome. We're from out of town and service means a lot when you're visiting. read more

I had dinner here and honestly didn't think it was anything special, but the brunch was definitely better. We got the eggs Benedict, the French toast, and the breakfast pizza. Mashed potato pizza is gone from the menu - boo! My friend and I had been looking forward to it for legit an entire year. Such a disappointment. My friend made a reservation for us a day or 2 in advance of our visit and was never told that the dining room wouldn't be available due to a party. We probably would've gone somewhere else. We had no choice but to sit at a tiny table in the bar, and service was pretty slow, but friendly. Bloody marys weren't very good. Cheeseburger pizzas were pretty good, but nowhere near as good as the mashed potato pizzas we had last year. We will go somewhere else for our mini-reunion next year. read more

I'd been here for dinner and was very impressed by the pizza, and after seeing a breakfast pizza on my friend's Instagram, I had to book Sonsie for brunch. We started out with the cold brew drink, which I was not at all impressed by and needed to order another cocktail to satisfy my boozy coffee craving-- fortunately the espresso martini was much better. The mashed potato and bacon pizza with sunnyside eggs was delectable and I even ate the whole thing (which I hardly ever do with pizzas, especially brunch pizzas). She got the huevos rancheros nachos. I love that Sonsie has open-air seating and that it's located on Newbury Street, which makes it a great spot in the summer. read more

Cute restaurant, not sure why there isnt a lot of love for it. Great location with the option of some open air seating during the warmer months, we actually came here on Thanksgiving day for lunch, as it was one of the few restaurants open that day. No line, quickly seated, good menu. I got the chicken sandwich, which is an open face sandwich with two HUGE pieces of chicken. Nicely cooked, not too dry. I couldn't finish it all. The boyfriend had a burger, which he liked as well; made medium rare like he asked for it. Nothing terribly special about the place, but the food is solid, so I think it would make a great summer time lunch or cocktail place on a good day. read more

Located right on Newbury Street, Sonsie's is an American Bistro that specializes in brunch. The atmosphere in here is great! It reminds me of restaurants in Europe with the way they set up the tables in the front of the restaurant. The decor was chic and gave off perfect brunch vibes. For breakfast, I ordered the steak and eggs. My wife and I wanted to split the French toast but they ran out...bummer! We opted for a Margherita pizza instead. Everything came out and looked amazing except for the fact that everything was cold!! The runner must have let this order die in the window because nothing was even remotely warm. Even if it was hot, nothing we had was noteworthy. The flavors were flat and nothing was that special. The one nod I'll give is to the presentation. The food looked great but didn't taste as good as it looked. I like some of the aspects of Sonsie's but letting our food die in the window is a huge no no in the biz. read more

We walked in on a cold Sunday morning before 10 am when there were so many open tables when we got there and we left; yet, the hostess claimed that they were fully booked. We asked her about the bar which also had several open seats and she reluctantly said that we could sit there. The avocado toast didn't have any fresh avocado or fresh tomato, and I def wouldn't recommend it!! The Bloody Mary was too spicy, and the Latte was too foamy and bubbly! I wasn't so sure how this place would be based on some reviews. I decided to try it anyways since I was in the area. I ended up loving the brunch. We called before hand on a Saturday morning and were told a 10 minute wait. When we arrived, we were seated right away. It was pretty busy and mostly all tables were filled. Heuvos rancheros - I loved this dish! Best heuvos rancheros in Boston that I have had. I loved the nachos instead of the basic tortilla I normally expect. Keep in mind I just returned from San Diego so have extra high standards with mexican food right now. -- I don't think you should have to pay $3 extra for sour cream and guac though. Avocado toast with seared tuna - This was good but could have used a little more flavor in my opinion. I ended up adding jalapeños. I have had better seared tuna. Stuffed french toast with nutella - Amazing! I ended with this dish as a brunch dessert. Normally don't have much of a sweet tooth but I enjoyed this. Latte - A bit too milky for my liking. All in all, great experience. We were sitting facing Newbury. It was a good table to people watch. I will be back at some point to try the dinner menu and drinks. Menu had some cool drink options but wasn't in the mood to drink. read more
