I got an unnecessary root canal that failed and had to be redone by another dentist. And cosmetic veneers that I was not properly fit for and broke almost the same day I left there telling them my teeth felt loose still. I had to have my root canal reposted and was lucky I had enough left to even do that. Now I'm on a 10k plus journey to fix the original problem and the damage done by this office. Other than the problematic work I received from this place the staff is very friendly and they at least communicate. Do they give you right or best information no... but they get back to you. I've given this dentist office thousands of dollars my veneers alone were a wasted couple thousand that lasted me less than a month. With the amount I've spent here and having to go thru and have everything completely redone by someone else I wouldn't recommend going here at all.

After my last few visits, I will not be returning, nor will any of my family members. At my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist was telling me how dirty my teeth were and told me that I don't brush or floss my teeth. Well, I don't know how I've made it this far in life without brushing my teeth! She made me feel awful about my teeth and made me feel like a disgusting human who apparently doesn't brush or floss. I had a few cavities and made a follow up appt to get them filled. I was given the appt with paperwork stating what teeth would be getting the fillings. It's a good thing I kept that paperwork! I showed up to the appt for the fillings and was told my appt was never made and was never put into the system. Yet I had the paperwork showing otherwise! They took me anyway since it was their mistake, but I was treated as a walk in and made to wait, wait, wait. I had another appointment that I booked 2.5 hours after this one and I had to actually contact the business of my next appointment and notify them that I would be late. And sure enough I was 30 minutes late to my next appointment because of Avalon dental's incompetency. Speaking of incompetence.....approximately 6-8 months after this, I had a dental cleaning at a different dental office and found out that I had a "huge" cavity that Avalon dental missed! It was so large that had it gone any longer I would have needed a crown! The cavity was clearly visible on the x-rays taken at Avalon and they never treated it or informed me of the cavity. One of my family members actually did have a crown placed through Avalon dental and the whole experience was nothing but a nightmare! They told my family member that they ran the paperwork with the insurance company and that the crown was covered. My family member had the procedure and was then hit with a massive bill from the insurance company. Avalon dental never cleared it with the insurance first and said they did! My family member then had to get more medical documentation and basically do Avalon Dental's job for them with submitting required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company to get this covered, which is what Avalon claimed they did, but did NOT! The woman in the office that handles insurance and billing is EXTREMELY RUDE! Called multiple times requesting that we contact the insurance company to pay them. Is that not her job? I contacted the insurance company and per the insurance company, they had 90 days in which to provide Avalon dental with the payment and it would be payed in 90 days. I called and let the insurance/billing lady at Avalon dental know this and she continued to call us MULTIPLE times requesting a check from the insurance company! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Again, this is her job to contact the insurance company....why were we having to do her job for her? Not to mention she continued talking over us on the phone, kept interrupting us multiple times, and would not let us speak! She was calling us up like a bill collector when it was out of our hands. We told you, the insurance will pay you in 90 days! QUIT calling! We QUIT coming to Avalon dental after these incidents. Will not be coming back. EDIT: The business thinks I have the wrong dental business because of my name and location being California. I have the correct business and I was a patient of yours more than once. I travel to the valley here MULTIPLE times per year and have well over 200 reviews for Arizona businesses, including yours. If you took a look at my reviews, check-ins, and photos, you'd know that. I was just in Phoenix this morning. As for my name, this is a variation of my name. Just because it doesn't exactly match my medical record, doesn't mean I was not a patient of this office. I do not wist to talk to you or anyone from this business. I shared my experience with your business on a review site. Please learn to take negative feedback to build a better business for current and future customers/patients.

Alexis did a wonderful job setting my fears to rest making me feel less anxious about my cleaning. Dr. Taryn spent extra time to make sure I was comfortable and everything was going well. Later in the day when my visiting sister's temporary crown fell out we called the office asking for advice on what to do. Dr. Taryn said she'd help us out and reset my sister's crown for us that afternoon! I can't say enough about how caring and thoughtful the whole office is at Avalon. You are not just another patient to them. You are a valuable person with individual needs. In a world where so much negativity exists, it's nice to have that genuine care. Marilyn S.

I took my mom in because she wanted to fix her dentures the broke and this doctor was pressing her to get some metal implants and that they would be able to snap into place and they wouldn't budge, they were better than the regular dentures. blah blah blah. He made my mom get the x-rays done, he said she didn't have enough bone that they would try to do it with the smallest implant possible and he said he would schedule her in two weeks to pull out her two last remaining bottom teeth. when the day came he "numbed" her but she was in a lot of pain. She kept telling them she could feel everything! she could feel the scalpel cutting into her gum!! He said we'll I'll just give you more numbing agent. It was honestly a complete mess from there, my mom felt the pulling and turning of her teeth the screws and drills for the new implant and after that my mom was completely purple and blue and swollen for three weeks!!! No medication was given to her not even antibiotic! I even asked him to prescribe her antibiotics as well as pain medication because I am in the medical field and I know when a patient goes in for that type of procedure. You get prescribed pain medication as well as antibiotics to make sure you don't get an infection!! When she finally healed, she went back and told him that she was having extreme pain. He said that it would subside and they were gonna get her impressions done so they can send her to get her dentures. When we finally got the dentures, they were pretty good. They needed to be adjusted here and there which the guy who takes care of the dentures did and that guy did an excellent job but when my mom was using her dentures for a while (2.5 weeks) she kept having pain and discomfort. We went back in multiple times in those 2.5 weeks and the doctor kept putting it off and saying she's fine. I had also called multiple times on her behalf and was just told that she needed to ice and rest and that she needs to heal. Once the swelling went down. My mom still had pain and then we noticed she had blisters near the implant that were red and they were popping. They were with pus and blood!!! We went back in. He told her that was normal. It was just healing on the inside. I had asked him if she needed to use any type of mouthwash that was antiseptic. He turned and told her that she didn't have to brush her teeth at all because she didn't have any teeth of her own, which is a complete lie!! you still have to take care of the dentures! it's common sense, but this doctor said she didn't have to rinse her dentures or wash her mouth! My mom is the most cleanest person I know, she was washing her mouth twice a day and keeping her dentures in cleaning solution at night and brushing them twice a day. I don't know how many times we had gone in and he kept giving us excuses until my mom was finally fed up and decided to ask him for her money back. She paid almost 30 grand for this "job"!! He was livid and said "I did an outstanding job on your teeth and now you want your money back? that is just wrong and very ungrateful!" He was honestly very manipulating to her! He pretty much told my mom "you HAVE to sign this paper that states you cannot sue me for whatever reason and I'll give you a portion of what you paid" We asked multiple times how much of what she paid cash will she get back and they stated "We can't give you that information until you sign the paperwork." My mom was very upset and she gave in and signed. He didn't even bother giving my mom a fourth of what she paid!!! My mom has been suffering since then! We went to another dentist to get another opinion and this new dentist told her that she has a chronic infection due to how the implant was placed! Thank God she's not in the hospital with sepsis right now!! I honestly don't believe he was even certified to do any type of dental job because everything that was in that office was with his wife's name not his! The guy who does the dentures even stopped working for him because of the way his attitude was! Just trying to screw his patients over! Honestly, if I were you, I would find another dentist and never come here again!! They just drain you from your money and do a shitty half ass job!!! if you love yourself, do not come here!!!! If you had issues and have the opportunity to sue, sue them and don't sign amy paper!!

We moved to Scottsdale about six or seven years ago. My wife did a ton of research before picking a…read moredentist and she chose S&L with Dr. David Ngo. I went with a different place at first because it was closer to where we were living. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. I ended up having a bad experience there and finally switched to S&L. Dr. Ngo and his team fixed everything the other dentist had messed up. Right away I knew my wife had been right all along. I've been going to S&L for four years now and they really are the best dental office I've ever been to. Dr. Ngo has removed all my old metal fillings and replaced them with modern ones, plus he's done a couple of crowns for me. Everything looks and feels great. My wife has also been extremely happy with all the work he's done for her too. I'm almost 55 and I've seen a bunch of top-rated, highly recommended dentists over the years, both here in the US and a couple in Mexico. Nothing else comes close. One thing I have to mention is how good Dr. Ngo is with people who hate dental visits or get nervous about pain. His work is excellent, but it's the way he takes care of you that makes the biggest difference. For example, the way he does Novocaine shots is unbelievable. You barely feel it at all. Every dentist out there should learn his technique. With all that said, I do think the front office experience could be better. If the customer service up front matched Dr. David's clearly caring vibe, it would be 100% perfect. If you're looking for a truly professional dentist who gives five-star care and service, this is the place. Dr. David Ngo at S&L is the only one I would recommend without any hesitation.

I chose this dentist because of all the amazing reviews, and so I thought I'd detail my experience…read morebecause it wasn't as perfect as the reviews make it seem. They seem very knowledgable and seem to know what they're doing when it comes to dentistry, but my concerns are more in the administration side of things. I changed jobs earlier this year and got new insurance with a common major insurance provider, and I needed to get a procedure done. I asked them what the procedure would cost and they gave me a quote, which was already expensive, and I paid that at the time of service. However, when I came in for a routine cleaning 6 months later, they said the insurance "didn't pay as much as they thought" and stuck me with MORE THAN DOUBLE their original quote. I looked into the insurance claim and called the insurance company myself, and the insurance company paid exactly what was according to their billing schedule. There were no surprises. I think the office knew (or should have known, because they're the professionals and this is what they do) that this would happen, and they dishonestly gave me a lower quote, did the service, and then stuck me with the even more expensive bill (but to their credit, they did give me a lower price than what they billed to insurance, but it was still VERY expensive that I was not prepared for). Additionally, I distinctly recall the procedure treated four teeth, but then on the bill and insurance claim, they say they treated six. Unfortunately, I don't really know how to argue this, especially because it happened so long ago. I suspect they didn't contact me about this issue earlier for this exact reason. Again, dishonest. Another concern with this dentist is that it's unprofessional that they use Zelle to get around credit/debit card transaction fees. Every merchant has to deal with card transaction fees, they shouldn't be up-charging that cost and they shouldn't be using Zelle, which is supposed to just be a peer-to-peer payment network. Lastly, as much as I love dogs, I don't think it's hygienic that they keep a dog in their office. In all, I started off loving this dentist, and very disappointed that they turned out to be this unprofessional and dishonest. I'm sad I'll have to go elsewhere from now on.
