Absolute worst dental care i have received. This location used to be owned by dr Beavers before he retired. Dr Head is arrogant and lacks experience. I had several failed crowns within a one year period that I could no longer ignore his bad work and incompetence. He tried to charge me full price every time to repair his mistakes. I called in to discuss the charges with front desk she persisted to argue with me. I told her I wanted to discuss it with dr head. He called me back the following day and told me to go to another dentist. I should have sued him for the faulty work. I would avoid this dentist at all costs. read more

I was a customer of Dr. Beavers who used to own this location before Dr. Head purchased it. I'm assuming that's where he is claiming the 30+ years experience which is not true at all. When Dr Head took over I knew he was a new dentist but decided to give him a chance since I was familiar with the location and staff and I didn't feel like seeking out a new dentist. I noticed immediately Dr. Head would charge my insurance the absolute highest amount for cleanings and basic exams compared to industry standard. I never thought to complain until I had to deal with his total lack of experience in the field. I had several failed crowns and had to have adjustments made to dental fillings everytime he worked on me. He of course had excuses everytime and blamed a new piece of equipment that scans your tooth to do a replica instead of using the molding indention method. I put up with this for several years but had really become frustrated when one of the crowns he installed had fallen off for the second time within a one year period. Everytime his work had failed he would charge me full amount to fix it! This time he said he would offer a discount! When i asked to speak to him about the issue his front desk girl persisted to argue with me and I explained to her I wanted to talk to Dr. Head about it directly. He called me back the following day and told me I could come pick up the crown and take it to another dentist to fix and he didn't want to fix it! After speaking with several other dentists they advised me I should have sued Dr Head for his faulty work and made him pay for another dentist to fix it. I new he was inexperienced in all aspects of the business so I just wanted to get my tooth fixed and not have to deal with him anymore! I am sharing my story to save someone the time and money of dealing with what I went through. I feel like this is the only way to get any kind of reconciliation and hold people accountable for malpractice and bad business! He tried to deflect my review on Google and say I must have the wrong business. His lying about me being a client tells you everything you need to know about this guys character. Well, the phrase: "it was worse than a root canal" is about to take on a whole new meaning, thanks to Dr Madder and his wonderful staff. No, I'm not masochistic. I don't even like flossing, because it stings my gums. These guys (mostly women) are that good. Let's start with the reception area. When I walked in the front door, I was immediately greeted by a beaming Tish, who warmly welcomed me in. She is hot, and has perfect teeth. Go ahead; try to find a flaw with those beauties. Tish also has a sick sense of humor. She proved that by laughing at some of the comedic remarks I penned on my new patient form. When my time had come, Cherie escorted me back to my recliner... the recliner I was destined to spend close to 4 hours in. Yes, this was no mere mortals visit to the dentist. This was to be one of the greatest marathon sessions the world had ever known. And Cherie made the time fly by. She was attractive, witty, funny, charming, and not afraid to get down and sing to George Michael's version of Last Christmas. Looks like somebody has a new admirer! Are you needing a cleaning? Then Aimie will do the honors; and she rounds out our trio of beauties. I don't know how she does it, but she makes me feel completely at ease, and she's got some pretty good stories. Ask about the Starbucks/Trader Joes incident. And guess what? She called to check up and see how I was feeling after my deep cleaning. Then there was Dr Madder... a handsome young man of GQ'ish stature. I felt like I was on the set of Melrose Place. The Dr was skilled in the art of injections. Had I been as accomplished with a hypodermic, I'd probably be "chasing the dragon" today. I really appreciated how he would tell me what to expect, before doing something. No Surprises! That's my motto. My root canal was virtually pain free. It went very smooth, and I couldn't have been happier. I left with a numb tongue and an unrequited crush. But I will return, my friends. I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. Someone started a talk thread about the lack of health care reviews on Yelp and that was the prompting I needed. Dr. Madder and his staff have been my only dental health care professionals since moving to Arizona. They are friendly, professional and make going to the dentist a nearly pleasant experience. I won't go so far as to say I look forward to going to the dentist but it is certainly a stress free visit with these folks. Dr. Madder, Tish and the rest of the staff take the time to make sure you are comfortable and they explain everything as they go-from procedures right through billing. When he left his previous office to take over at Sonoran Vista Dentistry, I was glad to travel the extra distance in order to continue seeing Dr. Head. He clearly puts my needs and best interests first, often going the extra mile for me, whether it's letting me know my old discolored night guard is just fine and I don't need to replace it, or just taking time to visit with me each time I see him. In 4 years I have never had anything but excellent service with him. I have never felt he suggested anything unnecessary - on the contrary, he has been careful to recommend only what is really necessary at that point in time, while sharing with me issues that he is keeping an eye on. He is not only professional and careful, he is trustworthy, which can be difficult to find. That's why I originally traveled the 30 miles to his new office at Sonoran Vista. However, I will keep travelling that distance both because of him and because of his truly EXCEPTIONAL staff. From the extra effort before my visit to make sure I had good directions, to the greeting by name as I entered, to the water while I waited, I was made to feel entirely comfortable before I even got to a chair. My cleaning was painless and easy in the pleasant company of the hygienist. Being made to feel comfortable sure goes a long way at the dentist - It's just rare to find an office where every person you encounter working there, from the receptionist to the doctor, is intent on doing just that. One of the things I really like about Yelp is that it's a handy-dandy tool when you've moved to a new city. I've found lots of great businesses in my newest "new city" and Dr. Madder's practice is no exception. When I first read Brett B's review I was a bit put off. I mean, I don't really look like a cast member of Melrose Place (which I never watched) and didn't want to feel out of place. But a good dentist is a good dentist and to a kid whose mother nicknamed her "the million dollar mouth" I wasn't about to quibble. Appearances aside, these folks seem determined to make you feel welcome and cared for. Dr. Madder is pleasant, no-nonsense and a flat-out good dentist. Jill, the hygienist, is thorough and helped significantly improve my "pockets". The rest of the staff is absolutely terrific as well, they are pleasant, professional and make you feel that they really care about your well-being. But the best is Tish. Tish is an old friend. By that I don't mean that I've known her a long time. I mean she envelopes you in that feeling of belonging that you have with old friends and it is absolutely, 100% sincere. I whole-heartedly recommend this practice. They do a great job on kids (mine are teens) and adults. read more

There are some things that I really appreciate about their office, but there are definitely some things that they can work on. Positive: It's not exactly like anyone LIKES going to the dentist, but there are many people who are very brave about it. I'm not one of those people. So, their friendly and personable way of talking with you is definitely a plus. Their staff is very courteous, to say the least. Dr Madder is very friendly as well. Negative: 1. They do something that you could call "dentistry by fear." That is where they tell you all of the things in your mouth that may kill you. It's like the Webmd of dentist offices. Gums too low? You might die. You require a few fillings? You **need** a night guard from them or you will lose half of your teeth over the course of your life. I get that they need to convey the seriousness of good oral health, but I suspect that they take it a little too far. This is particularly obvious when they do the periodontist examinations. My wife and I both got the exact same verdict: your gums are a HUGE problem and will only be fixed by surgery. The issue here is that I have visited another dentist since then and they were puzzled by this. 2. They really should get rid of the price/appointment schedule that they show you. After your visit they show you a schedule of what you need to get done. Rather than ease you into the pool, they throw you in. As a 20-something year old, seeing a whopping $5,000+ estimation of the work to be done-- much extraneous-- (over 6 months) is more than daunting. 3 They are comparatively limited in what insurance they take. This is not necessarily something that would be easy for them to work on, but please be sure that they accept whatever insurance you have (or expect to have). 4. The filling that my wife had done there had to be redone because it stuck up too high. They are more than happy to redo things at no extra cost (a plus), but for the sake of simplicity we've since started going to a dentist who can do it in one go. read more

My husband and I had been with Madder Dentistry, presently Sonoran Vista Dentistry, for over a year. We went for regular teeth cleanings and some dental work. It has very nice and friendly front desk and most hygienists are thorough and knowledgeable. That's the positive. The NegativeS: It was very unpleasant to find out that with the purchase of Madder Dentistry by a new dentist, the policy of the office has changed. So now, every patient is REQUIRED to HAVE and to PAY for the dental X-Rays every 6 months. The only legitimate excuse to omit X-Rays would be pregnancy (well, if they ask you and you don't forget to tell them) or no caries in the previous 6 months. Then, the patient can has to get X-rays just ONCE a year (cost around $100+). It was highly inconvenient to find out about this policy during the visit and not to have dental cleaning done. There was no notification about this new policy before the visit. The current dentist absolutely relies on X-ray picture and evaluated the health of our teeth only looking at the picture during our previous visit. The current dentist came up with the treatment plan of 2 crowns and several fillings highly recommended before the next 6-month-appointment for teeth cleaning. If I do not get all this work done (hence, $1000-4000 in dental work), I will be coerced into dental X-Rays every 6 months). Dental practice is a business; one brings home what one kills: as many crowns/fillings/X-Rays one can recommend in this case. It is very understandable, when the dentist has just bought and paid upfront for a practice with the certain number of patients. The more dental work is prescribed, the faster the dentist will get reimbursed for the investment he made with the dental practice. So why am I so concerned about getting X-Rays every 6 months? Mainly, because I follow current research and American Dental Association, as well as Canadian Dental Association guidelines that suggests that dental X-Rays are overused, that dental X-rays should be performed every 1-3 years, and only after thorough examination of the teeth by the dentist. It's not ONE FITS ALL SIZE. Recent study "DENTAL X-RAYS and RISK OF MENINGIOMA" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22492363 states there is an increased risk of intracranial brain cancer, in spite of low dose X-Ray radiation. Also, the name of the article "Dental X-Rays and the RISK OF THYROID CANCER" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20397774 , speaks for itself. To sum up, FDA's and American Dental Association (ADA) recommendation: "Radiographic screening for the purpose of detecting disease before clinical examination should not be performed. A thorough clinical examination, consideration of the patient history, review of any prior radiographs, caries risk assessment and consideration of both the dental and the general health needs of the patient should precede radiographic examination.9-15 and "Dentists should conduct a clinical examination, consider the patient's oral and medical histories, as well as consider the patient's vulnerability to environmental factors that may affect oral health before conducting a radiographic examination." http://www.fda.gov/Radiation-EmittingProducts/RadiationEmittingProductsandProcedures/MedicalImaging/MedicalX-Rays/ucm116504.htm The practice rules of this dental office definitely outweigh the national recommendations of American Dental Association. I'm afraid this dentist could have messed up with my tooth nerves after he worked on some filings. Today I had another appointment with him to have more fillings done and he said he was not going to work on me that I could get another opinion. I told the dentist my concern about last time him pushing way too hard on my tooth during the fillings procedure. He said that's the way he has always done it and that he has never messed up with a client's tooth nerve in all his years of practice. He gave me a personal example of him getting some fillings. He said that when a dentist works on fillings the client can end up needing root canals and that he didn't get mad at his own dentist for causing him to need root canals. I also told him about last time him just telling me I could reschedule when I told him that I couldn't breathe during the procedure. I told him he was not caring or kind. I wasn't treated with any empathy by the dentist. I have had so many fillings done during my life and it is the first time a dentist pushes so hard on my teeth. Where are the ethics here? A dentist that possibly can cause way more harm than good. read more

When our dentist retired it was time to find another dentist. I was referred to Dr. Madder through my insurance. I really enjoy Dr. Madder and his staff. I have had good dentists in VA & DC and Dr. Madder is right up there with them. He makes sure I am comfortable and makes sure I am not in pain. He has also taken me on short notice when I had a tooth emergency. My wife and son both like him and he also took on a difficult case with my nephew and now they are going to see him. My wife is there right now getting a cleaning, pretty ironic, eh. The office staff are great as well. They help with everything. They are professional and very personable. They put you at ease from the moment you come into the office which is much appreciated since going to the dentist is not high on anyones list of fun things to do. read more

Great staff and Jesse Head is great! I hadn't been to the dentist in about 9 years. So when I went in for my initial check up, there were several different issues that were not good. Shelly and Jesse had phenomenal bedside manner. They delivered the bad news in a very soothing way to where it didn't even feel like bad news. That is a skill I have found very few public service workers have. I was grateful for how they communicated with me. And Trysh at the front desk just added to the great experience. She is booming with positivity, humor and enthusiasm. I have a ton of unpleasant and expensive work I need done, due to my own personal negligence. There is no Dr. Madder he retired, sold his business to Dr. Head who is gentle enough but his bottom line is the $ sign. His front office was unpleasant after I noticed I had paid for work not done. Dr. Head kicked me out of his practice when I would not let him permanently cement the 2 new front teeth crowns his lab made the wrong color. So he wrote me a check and cut our loses. I took the teeth to another dentist who cleaned the yellow and purple coloring off, polished them up and diagnosed the problem. Incorrect base shade to begin with. I do not appreciate how Dr. Head tried to make it my fault to take the attention off the mistakes that were made. read more

After searching which dentist office Id like to be a part of (new to the valley) I came across the Madders, it's been too long since I have seen the dentist and quite frankly I was a little nervous/embarrassed how it might turn out , but they were super cool and supportive. I asked a lot of questions for my own knowledge and they explained their answers in ways that I could walk away from with confidence and application to keep a healthy mouth! I would have given 0 stars if I could have. I was told I had to pay a certain amount that was not covered by my insurance before the work was done. So I did. I had some old caps that needed replacement. What my insurance did not cover was a reasonable amount, so I went ahead and had work done. After 3 visits and all work was done I received a bill for $441.00 more. I would have never had this work done if I knew I had to pay this much! I am 61 years old and have gone to dentists almost every six months all my life. (same insurance) This has never happened before! They are telling me it's my insurances fault. How come this never happened before. This also happened to another family member. Very shady way of doing business. Also Dr. Head burned the side of my mouth with the drill. He drilled so long I felt a burning. Went to bathroom to check but didin't see anything. When I got home it was burning like crazy so I put neosporin on it. Woke up the next morning with scabs on my face. BEWARE of this practice!! read more
