No one wants to go to the dentist, any more than people want to call a tow truck in the dead of night, or summon a plumber when the water heater springs a leak. However, in all cases, a dependable professional is extremely valuable. With that, I present Dr. Sheldon Sullivan. My first visit more than 20 years ago was based on location. He was just three minutes from my house. In the meantime, he is now responsible for the majority of crowns and fillings in my rapidly aging mouth. Several years ago I moved 10 miles away. I switched my primary care provider, but not my dentist. I recently had three crowns done, work I'd put off almost five years for no other reason than I just didn't want through such unpleasant procedures (another nice thing about Dr. Sullivan, he offers a diagnosis and treatment but does not pressure you to make a decision right away). The last x-rays revealed a dire situation, which he explained fully and patiently. The work was done over two appointments and included the careful administration of nitrous oxide, the perfect thing to take the edge off. It was damn near painless, and the work was flawless. I love the fact the crowns are milled on site, so none of those ridiculous temporary caps that pop off the second you bite into a steak (or a piece of broccoli, for those who are vegetarian-inclined). The dental work was OK, but the way they do business is absolutely horrible. you pay in the Office and then you pay again when they send you another bill because they only send estimates to the insurance company and claim that the insurance company doesn't cover it. I will never go to this dental place again. I think they are absolute crooks. If you're a business, you should know what your charges are for the services that you are offering not just estimates, and you get surprise bills later when you think that everything is paid. I have also registered a complaint with a Better Business Bureau. read more

Dr. Sullivan and his staff are top-notch dental professionals. I went in for my initial exam and cleaning, and was so impressed with how detailed and comprehensive their evaluation was. They really took the time to look at everything, and even included the 360 exam in addition to standard x-rays which was so appreciated. The cleaning was extremely detailed, and my hygienist Amy was an absolute angel and clearly communicated each step. It is very obvious to me that their entire team are top professionals, love what they do, and on top of the dental knowledge and treatment, it really felt like a family business. Dr. Sullivan has been my dentist for years! This review is long overdue. He has a wonderful and welcoming staff and has helped keep my mouth healthy. When I first started with him it had been 10 years since I had regular dental care. I was nervous and embarrassed but he and his team made me feel comfortable and did not judge me. They came up with a plan to get me back to good health and were very supportive. We then worked on improving my smile. Dr. Sullivan came up with a comprehensive plan for a smile makeover. Amazing practice. All staff members are courteous, professional, and extremely efficient. I have never had to wait longer than 5-10 minutes to see the hygienist for regular cleanings and other appointments. Dr. Sullivan and Brittany are both wonderful- they are meticulous and practice careful consideration with each patient. My family has a genetic history of receding gums and grinding at night; Sullivan's staff alerted me to this, and promptly had me fit me for a night guard. Dr. Sullivan's staff is fantastic! His hygienists are very personable and knowledgeable but at the same time, professional and courteous. Margo is outstanding; very thoughtful and intelligent regarding her trade. She is extremely gentle during cleanings, but not at the expense of being extremely thorough. I've never had a hygienist who did such a comprehensive cleaning and didn't leave my gums feelings raw or sore for the rest of the day. If she's not pursuing a DDS, she should be. Jennifer is approachable and accommodating for any billing or scheduling issues you may encounter. She's competent at handling any issue that may arise and is very friendly as well. Long time patient here, I've been a fan since 2000. The office staff is fantastic. You will be received like they LIKE you. They're true professionals and have regular training to keep their skills at their best. True professionals, they're why I travel from Avondale to Gilbert. Dr. Sullivan is an excellent and well-skilled cosmetic dentist. He's also reasonably conservative and a good read of his patients' concerns. He suggests treatments to keep your smile looking great, though he's also done a good job of avoiding anything over the top that would make me uncomfortable. He's good at pain management, a huge plus. They appreciate and respect your time. The office has - don't know what it's called - the machine that makes crowns. If you have to have one, there are not 3 appointments. 20 minutes later, it's done. Best: if you're in pain, you can get hold of the doctor. True patient care all the way round. read more

I was referred to Dr. Sullivan because of multiple problems, I drove over 100 miles to get to him, so I made sure they set me up for enough time to remove one tooth and also do a root canal, buildup and a new custom crown made in his office while you wait. I understood this would be many hours and was willing to wait. After Dr. Sullivan did his "Free" exam, x-ray they put together a plan of all the work I would need. This came to just under $20,000.00 that's right Twenty Thousand dollars. I told him I'm on Disability and could never afford that. BUT I still needed that tooth pulled, and a root canal, buildup and crown that I did have enough money for right now. Once he heard that I would not be spending any more money than what I came with, he recommended I stand in line in downtown Phoenix, that they are having free dental work done for poor people. So because I was not going to spend Twenty Thousand dollars, he refused to even pull my bad tooth and do a root canal. As he turned and was walking away, he said I have other patients and don't have time for you today. OH, he also mentioned in the hall while I was on my way out, you might think about going to Mexico. Thank you Dr. Sullivan with ALL 5 star reviews, I have never been so insulted in my life and NEVER expected that from someone like yourself considering who reffered me to you, your personal friend and a doctor I have been going to since 1993, And that free exam, x-ray and consultation, $105.00 One more thing dr. Where to start? I wish I didn't have to give any stars! Back in 2015 I gave a five star review and after only a year and a half, my how things have changed! First of all, if you have Delta Dental, know that they are a Premier Provider which TYPICALLY means slightly higher costs. I went in for my semi-annual cleaning and the hygienist that I was going to for the year and half was no longer there (I wish the office would have notified me). They scheduled me with a new hygienist that told me I need to have a deep cleaning. In addition, as I was sitting there they were also asking me if I was still interested in Invisalign (which I was never interested in but they tried to sell it to me on my very first visit). After about 30 minutes, they basically walked me to an office where before I knew it I was paying almost $700 just to make an appointment for the deep cleaning. I wanted to think it over but they told me that I needed to pay up front before even allowing me to make my appointment (which is not the norm; typically you pay at time of service). And by the way, the $700 is with my insurance. Anyway, as I thought about it, I decided I didn't want to do the deep cleaning at this point and just wanted to have my normal six month cleaning. I called and they were fine refunding back my money and rescheduling me for my normal cleaning. I got two text messages and an email confirming my appointment. The day before my appointment someone from the office called to confirm my appointment and told me that they would bring me into the office to discuss. I said I just want to have my normal cleaning and there is nothing to discuss at this time. I get to the office the next day (taking another day off of work) and they proceed to try and bring me into the office and tell me they won't give me my cleaning. Dr. Sullivan was on lunch and I waited for him to come back and I couldn't believe how rude he was. No bedside manner at all! I never had to really deal with him before as he just comes into the visit (annually) takes a quick look at the xrays and he's done. He didn't even give me five minutes of his time to discuss. He kept walking back and forth, talking to other people, etc... All he was saying is that it wasn't his fault that the girl scheduled the normal cleaning appointment and to go talk to her as it was her fault. He was very condescending and flat out obnoxious. Never have I ever dealt with a medical professional as "unprofessional" as Dr. Sullivan. But wait, it gets even better. On my home from the appointment I stopped at another dentist's office to get their opinion on what just had happened. They were very nice and explained that it is possible that some dentists now will refuse a normal cleaning if a deep cleaning is what is necessary. However, she called my insurance company as I was there to get a quote from them and it was less than half of what Dr. Sullivan wanted to charge me (they were not a Premier Provider but the difference should have only been 10%). Yes, you read that correct, less than half. I proceeded to go home and call my insurance company and was told that they should not have given me a quote right there, they are required to submit a "pre-treatment estimate" to the insurance company. The insurance company then reviews the patients xrays, decides if a deep-cleaning is required and then provides the dollar amount that is to be paid by the patient. Also, with insurance there is a negotiated cap that dentists can charge a patient. So in the end, as much aggravation as this Office has caused, I clearly saved a ton of money and learned a lot. I am going in for a 2nd opinion about the deep cleaning and I am very curious to find out what the new dentist has to say. I also referred someone to Dr. Sullivan for major dental work and the quote he provided was $20,000. Another dentist quoted $5,000 for the similar work! I have referred multiple people to this practice and I am so sorry I did! I hope they do not have to experience a similar situation. All I can say is beware! read more

All the equipment used seems to be on the cutting-edge of technology. He is currently taking care of my Invaslign braces, and it is going great so far. By far the worst dental experience I have ever had in my life. I don't even know where to begin. Not only did he forget to mention how much everything would cost, but his bedside manner was completely lacking. The entire time he was working on my teeth he was yelling at his employees, demeaning them in front of me. It was so bad that when he left the room his assistant apologized for his behavior. I had to go back again to see him and actually recorded him on my phone because it was so over the top i wanted to show my family. I have never been scared of going to the dentist before now. He made me feel so uncomfortable. Like I was burdening him by just being there. If you use this guy on a regular basis than you don't know what a real dentist is like. His work may be good, but it is extremely over priced and comes with a lot of stress. The biggest joke was when i went to another dentist who is also highly regarded to finish some of the dental work Sullivan told me i needed, the dentist said i didn't need the work at all! I give tons of positive reviews on yelp but couldn't let this one go. He gets great reviews and I am honestly baffled by it. Good luck if you decide to try him out....I would think twice. read more

I was visiting the Phoenix area and had a dental emergency. I went online to find a good dentist. I decided on Dr. Sullivan. I was able to get right away on Monday for an exam. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I needed a crown and they provide same day service so on Tuesday I left with a new crown. Dr. Sullivan is very particular and a no nonsense dentist. I have been going to Dr. Sullivan for more than 6 years. He and his staff are fantastic and extremely professional. The office is extraordinary clean and sanitary and they even have DVD glasses that you can watch while you are getting a long treatment. They also have chocolate chip cookies freshly baked for you on your way out of the office. They accept numerous types of insurance plans and do also have financing available if necessary. Dr. Sullivan has also been featured in the top 100 doctors in Phoenix metro area for many years now and one visit to his office you will quickly know why. The staff at his office make the experience of going to the dentist's office extremely bearable and pleasant. They are very accommodating when you need an appointment, they can find a way to sneak you in if it is an emergency. When setting an appointment, be sure to do so with plenty time notice, he is a very requested and respected doctor in the Gilbert community and may have a few week time line to get a regular appointment but you will be pleasantly surprised and will immediately know why. read more
