Avalon Dental went above and beyond yesterday not only taking care of my dental cleaning with care and precision, but helping my sister out who was visiting from another state. Alexis did a wonderful job setting my fears to rest making me feel less anxious about my cleaning. Dr. Taryn spent extra time to make sure I was comfortable and everything was going well. Later in the day when my visiting sister's temporary crown fell out we called the office asking for advice on what to do. Dr. Taryn said she'd help us out and reset my sister's crown for us that afternoon! I can't say enough about how caring and thoughtful the whole office is at Avalon. The first time I came here, the service was top notch. I left happy and thought I had finally found a good dental office. After my last few visits, I will not be returning, nor will any of my family members. At my last appointment for a cleaning, the hygienist was telling me how dirty my teeth were and told me that I don't brush or floss my teeth. Well, I don't know how I've made it this far in life without brushing my teeth! She made me feel awful about my teeth and made me feel like a disgusting human who apparently doesn't brush or floss. I had a few cavities and made a follow up appt to get them filled. I was given the appt with paperwork stating what teeth would be getting the fillings. It's a good thing I kept that paperwork! I showed up to the appt for the fillings and was told my appt was never made and was never put into the system. Yet I had the paperwork showing otherwise! They took me anyway since it was their mistake, but I was treated as a walk in and made to wait, wait, wait. I had another appointment that I booked 2.5 hours after this one and I had to actually contact the business of my next appointment and notify them that I would be late. And sure enough I was 30 minutes late to my next appointment because of Avalon dental's incompetency. Speaking of incompetence.....approximately 6-8 months after this, I had a dental cleaning at a different dental office and found out that I had a "huge" cavity that Avalon dental missed! It was so large that had it gone any longer I would have needed a crown! The cavity was clearly visible on the x-rays taken at Avalon and they never treated it or informed me of the cavity. One of my family members actually did have a crown placed through Avalon dental and the whole experience was nothing but a nightmare! They told my family member that they ran the paperwork with the insurance company and that the crown was covered. My family member had the procedure and was then hit with a massive bill from the insurance company. Avalon dental never cleared it with the insurance first and said they did! My family member then had to get more medical documentation and basically do Avalon Dental's job for them with submitting required paperwork and documentation to the insurance company to get this covered, which is what Avalon claimed they did, but did NOT! The woman in the office that handles insurance and billing is EXTREMELY RUDE! Called multiple times requesting that we contact the insurance company to pay them. Is that not her job? I contacted the insurance company and per the insurance company, they had 90 days in which to provide Avalon dental with the payment and it would be payed in 90 days. I called and let the insurance/billing lady at Avalon dental know this and she continued to call us MULTIPLE times requesting a check from the insurance company! UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Again, this is her job to contact the insurance company....why were we having to do her job for her? Not to mention she continued talking over us on the phone, kept interrupting us multiple times, and would not let us speak! She was calling us up like a bill collector when it was out of our hands. We told you, the insurance will pay you in 90 days! QUIT calling! We QUIT coming to Avalon dental after these incidents. Will not be coming back. EDIT: The business thinks I have the wrong dental business because of my name and location being California. I have the correct business and I was a patient of yours more than once. I travel to the valley here MULTIPLE times per year and have well over 200 reviews for Arizona businesses, including yours. If you took a look at my reviews, check-ins, and photos, you'd know that. I was just in Phoenix this morning. As for my name, this is a variation of my name. Just because it doesn't exactly match my medical record, doesn't mean I was not a patient of this office. My husband & I along with our children have been patients for 14 years at Avalon Dental. It saddens me to share my most recent experience. During a routine dental cleaning (I arrived 100% ok) I was informed by Dr. Taryn my 2 crowns were exactly 10 years old & would need to be replaced in the near future. Requiring a dental implant first. Upon leaving her office my front teeth started hurting so strange!? That has never happened before. I was forced to return due to increasing pain. She then said pain was due to an infection, prescribed antibiotics. Then sent me to surgeon of her choice to immediately extract that tooth & told me it was my only option. No need to return to endodontist for further evaluation. Her "preferred surgeon " highly recommended 2 surgeries including a bone graft. And also prescribed painkillers & more antibiotics. All cost approx. $8,000. Dr Taryn quoted $2,000. For new crowns. I then decided I would get 2nd opinion from my endodontist who worked on that tooth in the past. He took same 3-D imaging as surgeon had. His findings were Nothing wrong with tooth! Root canal solid. No bone loss. Pain most likely a nerve affected during dental cleaning. Thank God I got the 2nd opinion!! Please be careful, always get a 2nd opinion. It is my opinion that Avalon Dental is lacking ethical integrity. We will not be returning to this dental practice. read more

I've been coming to Avalon for two years now. I've always been impressed with the friendly staff from the front to the back. Some of their chairs have a massage effect - it's truly like a spa - you ALMOST forget it's a dental office lol I've had to have a crown re-done after it failed from it being so old (from 10 years prior) and felt their their fees were comparable to other facilities. I called to make an appointment and they don't have anything until spring unless you are having an issue. Seems as if the money for a simple check up and cleaning of a first time customer is not worth their time. That tells me a lot about this place. In response to your comment. I understand a few months but I was told booked until Spring of next year which at the very minimum is March 2022. That isn't a few months. And it doesn't explain how you have the time to see new patients if they have dental issues but not if everything is fine and just want a regular checkup and cleaning. Also none of the options of a standby list were given so yes very disappointed. read more

They are timely with appts. They will not try to do any work that is not necessary and their theory is if it's doing OK then let's leave it until it's not. I love that rather than giving you a list of things to fix before it's necessary. I have been going there for years and my teeth are feeling and looking great and highly highly recommend them. 1 hour wait in chair after numbing for a filling. By the time they got to me and was done I could feel everything. They overbook and under deliver. Also, cleanings are 8 months out so you better book 2 cleanings in advance if you want a cleaning every 6 months. read more

Today I went to Avalon Dental with an issue with my implant I was able to get a same day as appointment and when I got there they were ready for me. The staff, hygienists, and doctors are super nice. I started going to Avalon Dental when it called Desert Breeze with Dr. Tao in the early 2000s then transitioned to Dr Pfeifer and then these wonderful Dentists. Today Dr. Shackelford worked with me and the hygienist was super nice and I didn't get her name. I don't live close any more and I refuse to go to another office closer due to the service I've had here for many years. The only time I stopped coming to this office is when I lived out of state but when I moved back Avalon was where I came back to. They are awesome! read more

I was in need of a new dentist and through an insurance search found Breeze Dental. They were able to get me in that same day which is unheard of! The entire staff was extremely nice and very genuine. Although I was there for nearly two hours (like I said, I needed a dentist), it seemed like only a few minutes. My hygienist, Angie was very thorough and reassuring about my condition. Who likes going to the dentist? I mean, maybe you are a weirdo and you do, but I certainly never have! But, from the moment I stepped into Avalon Dental, I was put at ease. Friendly front desk staff really set the tone for a positive experience. Celeste was wonderful and leaves a great, lasting first impression. The office was running just a tad behind (5 minutes or so), and the tech, Erica, was super apologetic about the wait. I used to work in the medical field so I understand sometimes things get hectic, but her genuine apologies led me to believe that even something as small as a 5 minute wait isn't acceptable to them--love that! Additionally, everyone I encountered in the office was smiling, friendly, and cheerful. I thought I had a cavity but after my exam with Dr. Peifer, he assured me that there were no cavities, that we would watch an old chipped tooth repair, but it could wait until my finances were in a better place. He was very nice and didn't come across as arrogant or bored. We chit chatted about kids and books, and it was very nice! I returned the next day for a routine cleaning (I had scheduled the two appointments separately because I thought I needed a filling), and had checked in and hadn't even sat down before the hygienist called me back! She was a lovely person and did an excellent job on my teeth. I am new to the area and absolutely loved my experience at Avalon Dental! From the first phone call through check out, I was treated with respect and like a dear old friend. Below I will tell the brief story of how Dr. Peifer and Avalon Dental saved me approximately $14,900 in dental work. Unfortunately, I received a coupon in the mail for XO Dentistry in Gilbert, Arizona, promising an exam, x-rays, and cleaning for $69. That sounded like a good deal and I was due for a cleaning, so I made an appointment. Upon entering that office, I was taken promptly to my exam area. A staff member proceeded to take x-rays and pictures. She seemed completely inexperienced. The X-rays hurt quite bad, and I have never experienced pain from x rays before. She then took high definition pictures of my teeth, and placed a monitor right in front of my face so that I could see the pictures. As a I later realized, that was likely a marketing technique. My teeth (and yours also most likely) do not look pretty that close up, and those images would provide an opportunity for Dr. Abedi to "improve" my smile. So, after shes done taking the pictures and x-rays, Dr. Abedi comes in. He spend maybe 5-10 minutes examining my teeth. He then says they cannot do a cleaning because I need a deep cleaning in my entire mouth. He said he will give me a "discount" of 20% (what kind of dentist gives discounts?) so that the deep cleaning will "only" cost about $900. I tell him that I want a normal cleaning in accordance with the coupon, but he says that the hygienist is out of the office (why the hell would you schedule an appointment for an exam, x rays, and cleaning when the hygienist is out of the office?). Remarkably, he then also claims that I have extremely receding gums and that I NEED about 15 gum grafts, and that, because I do not have insurance, he will lower the cost of EACH GRAFT from $1200 to $980. So, yes, within 10 minutes of meeting me, he claimed that I needed approximately $15,000 in dental work. I was aware I had some gum recession, but had seen many other periodontists and dentists and believed that the recession was not as serious as this Doctor Abedi made it sound. Luckily, I made an appointment here at Avalon Dentist. Dr. Peifer examined me and told me that I have some recession but am not at any risk of losing functional value of the teeth and that I only need a basic (not deep) cleaning every 6 months. His office then set me up with a cleaning the very next day, and charged me only $100 for the exam and cleaning, saving me, in essence, saving me $14,900. read more

I don't dread the dentist or doctor but I do dread dealing with the front end office and insurance and all of that and the Avalon dental team is BY FAR the best in town. I would give 0 stars if it was allowed. I had a friend pass away before Memorial Day so between work and making funeral arrangements my dentist appointment wasn't a priority so when I called the office on Thursday to cancel my Friday appointment because I wanted to attend the funeral. The staff member I spoke to was rude, snippy, and threatened me with a cancellation fee. I made a complaint and this is how the office responded: Breeze Dental Amy, our patients are very important to us, and we always appreciate feedback on how we can better serve our patients. We would like to speak with you personally about your experience if you'd like. As you can see from our reviews, our patients have had and continue to have, wonderful experiences at our dental office. We did try to contact you for a week regarding your appointment with no response from you. We are sad to see you go. Because we are one of the few dental offices that run on time and don't double book patients, we kindly ask for 48 hours notice to reschedule appointments, that way we have enough time to fill the spot for another patient wanting to be seen or get in sooner, especially for our weekend appointments. We hope you know we value our patients time, and just ask the same in return. You are always welcome back at our office if you choose to return.
