The food was good enough, but the service was atrocious. Our host attempted to seat us, but the table was not clean. She was obviously annoyed and cleaned it for us. Our waitress finally arrived and acted like she was annoyed to take our order. Brisket was sold out.... Mid day. The food came out in a decent amount of time. We didn't have any napkins, and no sight of our waitress. We wouldn't have a check-in until our lunch was almost finished. She did manage a drive by saying "everything's good", no chance for us to ask for the napkins. When we did, it was an obvious burden for her. The next check-in was when it was well after we finished eating and obvious we were ready to leave. Beyond the poor waitress, it was obvious someone wasn't bussing tables like they should. We heard other servers complaining and saw customers waiting to be seated while tables were cleaned. The place only had a dozen or so customers, so it wasn't because it was busy. I wish I took pictures but a group of college baseball players in town for a tourney were happy to dig in post game. Our hostess and then waitress - sorry I forgot their names - were phenomenal! Great recommendations. From the seasonal onion rings and sweet peach heat wings plus loaded tots to all the meals. Everyone was happy and full. All the BBQ was perfection and they were good with drink refills and anything we asked for. However I felt bad as it was past closing time and trying to finish our meals but they didn't make us feel rushed, more like take your time and when you're done, you're done. I got hungry for some BBQ and decided to stop my Sonny's as it is close my house. Got seated at the bar and got served a Shock top. It was on draft so it was good not flat. I order the corn nuggets with sugar flakes and they were too bad, they came in warm and not too hot. Then I got served the beef brisket. I wanted it lean (sliced) but was told they were out so I opted to get the brisket marbled (chopped) my serving came with a baked sweet potato and broccoli (not pictured). I felt that the chopped brisket was a bit dry for my liking, I prefer it moist. Restaurant was clean and the for the price the food was expensive, but I felt that it fell short on the brisket. When you order a salad you risk the restaurant cheapening out and going heavy on the lettuce. That was not the case here. Sonny's was generous on the toppings and the added shredded BBQ chicken, a recommendation from our incredibly friendly waiter, made a good thing even better. So, my wife invited me to come try this place. She said she enjoyed her food when she got takeout here one day while at work. We went today for lunch. I wasn't very impressed. In fact, the food left me feeling like I missed an opportunity to have a good lunch today. I did like the BBQ pork egg roll appetizer. I didn't care much for the sampler I ordered. The brisket wasn't very good. The chicken was undercooked for my liking. You know, a little red and a little rubbery. Would never order it again here. The ribs we okay. The pulled pork was... didn't seem like it was made today. The wait staff seemed like they were trying to be super fast when the place wasn't very busy at all. It felt a little annoying actually. Could a person talk any faster? Really, I left my normal 25 percent tip just because I was with my wife. Route 66 on US1 would be a much better choice. Following my last review of Sonny's, the manager reached out and offered me a free dinner if I came back. He sent me a coupon for a free dinner. So, after nearly a year, (I was in no rush to eat here again). I decided to give Sonny's another try. I REALLY wanted to like Sonny's and support a local business but unfortunately my first review is accurate and I stand by it. If you've ever had really good barbecue, you'd agree with me. If you were to Go to Houston, Memphis, Kansas City...and go into one of the local bbq joints like into Otto's, Goode & Co, Corky's, Hoodoo Brown, etc. you'll find they're on a whole different level. We live in Vero Beach year round and have frequented the Vero Beach Sonny's many many times. Usually at least once a week and sometimes also takeout during the week. Sonny's has always been one of our favorites for bar-b-que. Dining room service up until the last couple months or so has usually been as we have typically found at a Sonny's (have visited a half dozen or more around the state of Florida, including Homestead, Gainesville, Bartow, Fort Pierce-now closed, the list goes on): seated fairly quickly and greeted and served quickly by the usually proficient and friendly wait staff. Food is typically good, good portions, served quickly and hot. Unfortunately a noticeable problem, primarily with service, has developed at the Vero Beach Sonny's. Can't report on other locations, but It seems this particular location has apparently eliminated having a host or hostess. That's the first issue: You have to wait for a server to first, notice you as they are busily rushing around, then actually come over and seat you, but not necessarily at a table they are serving. If it's their table, you're in luck, because they will then start with a drink order and go on from there. However, in four out of the last five occasions we have visited (usually anywhere between 4:30 and 6:00), we stood there at the "hostess" station waiting like bumps on a log for quite some time. Finally being noticed, we would finally get seated, but not at one of that server's tables. (On one occasion the young lady working the "bar" actually noticed us still standing there and she kindly seated us without us asking for her help). On one occasion the server seating us also took care of us right away. So here's a prime example: We find ourselves standing there waiting behind another group of four. A server finally comes over and seats that group and disappears. Then nothing. We continue to stand there. And stand there. Finally, a different server from the last one that seated the prior group, comes over and seats us. But not at her station. The folks behind, that had just walked in, were also seated by this server immediately, across the aisle from us. Almost immediately they have a different server come over and take their drink order. We sit and wait. The cross-aisle patrons get their drinks and place their order. We sit and wait. Now another group of four walks in and gets seated promptly in the booth behind us. We sit and wait. Finally after several more minutes pass, a server comes out of the kitchen area with a tray of beverages headed down the aisle to the back of the restaurant. She acknowledges the group behind us as she passes, saying she'll be right with them (we're apparently invisible, got to work on that visibility thing). We sit and wait. As the food is coming out for the folks across the aisle from us, we for the first time, have finally had enough to walk out. We spent our $60+ that evening at another bar-b-que establishment that had a designated hostess that greeted us and seated us when we walked in, we were promptly greeted by our server and our order was taken, and the ribs arrived promptly and hot. One more example, from when this Sonny's actually had a hostess working a few months ago: We were promptly seated by the hostess in a booth at the farthest wall of the restaurant. Nobody else was seated in that aisle. We sat and waited for a server. And sat. And waited. We finally waived down a server on the next aisle over and he came over to our table. We just asked if he knew who was serving that table. He did not know, he checked and came back promptly and said he would just take care of us since nobody seemed to know who was assigned to our table. He provided exemplary service and we appreciated him actually stepping up and taking care of us. Noteworthy, nobody else ever did get seated in that aisle while we were there and finished our meal. So don't know what the miscommunication was that night. And don't get me started on the takeout pickup issues, but here's a synopsis: The ordering is fine online, it's when you go to pickup and either there's nobody there to give you your order, or there are several other customers ordering at the takeout counter with the one employee or otherwise waiting, as your food has been brought out and sitting on the table behind the counter getting cold. Won't elaborate more here, other than perhaps the persons bringing the orders out, knowing it's paid for if they look at the receipt, could just call out the name and hand over the order while it is still hot. That could help the one counter person that seems pretty overwhelmed. We have always enjoyed the food and prompt friendly service at Sonny's. Unfortunately the Vero Beach location has really been dropping the ball. Cannot testify as to what is happening at other locations, but in VB, they really need to go back to or develop a better system so they can provide the service they used to have. read more

My wife ordered online and I picked it up after working on a Sunday. So I get there and there was a little bit of a wait. No big deal. My order got messed up and the management handled business like a champ. Was it a minor inconvenience yes. But was handled in a really good and professional way also yes. December 6/2021: My first visit to this location. Meeting some friends. I gave this a 3* because I found a couple of things as issues. I ordered the Sonny's Sampler but; 1. The food was warm but certainly NOT as hot as it should have been. 2. The cutlery that I had was sticky 3. The portion size was rather small compared to previous Sonny's Restaurants that I've been to. I did genuinely enjoy the Banana pudding. Warm & delicious. Our server was "Vicky". Food is great as always. Very disappointed. I called the previous day to see if they still have all you can eat baby back ribs and the lady said yes. The next night we arrived at 7:35 and the waitress said we only have other ribs all you can eat and went to ask the manager, the manager said we are to late for all you can eat baby back ribs we need to come early. On the phone they never said a specific time then the manager said if you come tomorrow we will have them, we are only passing through and never had this problem. The first time I was told to wait in the pick up area, they would bring the food out to me. 20 minutes later, I had to walk inside to get my food. Today I was at the pick up area again, waited and received a text message saying the food is ready and to go inside and pick it up. When I got inside, nobody had a clue what was going on and I waited about 10 minutes for them to get my food and hand it to me. In town for a business conference and wanted to try something local. Looked on Yelp, doing this place and figured, why not? I got the beef brisket sandwich, while my wife (who came with me on the trip) offered the BBQ Cobb salad. Both looked incredible. Both tasted even better. For my part, the sandwich was outstanding and the mac and cheese was definitely cheesy. My wife demolished her Cobb, so I guess she liked it. We then tried the banana pudding as their dessert. Absolutely divine. I'm not going to say it's perfect, however, I'm sure I'd be hard-pressed to find a place around here that serves anything nearly as good. Lastly, kudos goes to our server, Emily. She was attentive and friendly, which is very much a plus in the industry. She probably deserves a raise or two, though from the looks of things I suspect that they take care of their people, making it a moot statement. I wish I could say I'd come back to this place, but given that I was here for a one-time conference, that's unfortunately not to be. I don't frequent Sonnys as much as I used to when I was younger, but the other day I had a craving for BBQ and Sonnys was the closest to me- figured I'd go through the drive through and get my order to bring home. After this last order, I don't think I'll order from Sonnys again. I ordered a Pulled pork sandwich with fries and a sprite, a brisket platter with 2 sides of coleslaw and redneck eggs roles. The woman in the drive through was very nice and helpful, and my order was correct. It wasn't until I got home and realized the brisket meal was almost completely fat and inedible! I'm not expecting this to be a lean meat by any means, I was extremely disappointed because most of the meal had large chunks of fat within the brisket . I picked through it the best I could finding anything edible, but most went in the trash. I was extremely disappointed for paying roughly $15 for that and what I ended up getting. I wanted to save time, and thought it would be cheaper than going to another place... I probably won't be back. A waste of my time and money. read more

The food is standard sunny's barbecue. No complaints about it. The ambience is standard sunny ambience no complaints about that either. The service was atrocious and she treated everyone in her section like they were a bother. Most of our communication was my husband, and I asking questions and her barely giving one word answers and often not responding at all, but just walking away from us. We observed her doing the same with the other tables in her section. She obviously did not welcome questions nor interaction with her customers, and either needs to be retrained or fired. We normally provide a wonderful tip, but she does not deserve the bare minimum tip. If we return to Sonny's in the future, I can promise you that when I see this beautiful young woman, I will be sure to point out that I do not want to sit in her section. When we stay at the Disney Vero Beach Resort, I know there is one place that will feed 6 people some down home cooking BBQ. That is Sonny's BBQ. Sonny's BBQ is all over Florida! This particular Sonny's BBQ is about 7 miles away from the Vero Beach resort. I have my family plus girlfriends in tow. After a full day of swimming, I have everyone telling me they are hangry! Pulling into the parking lot, its welcoming site. Once we're seated at a large booth, its a no brainer to order the family BBQ platter. This platter has 3 sides, big monster gulp teas and a variety of smoked meats. Throw in the salad bar? Play time is over and we're all in the zone. All said and done, UNDER $60 bucks to feed us all. Very easy once you plug the directions into the Waze. If you're on A1A and heading North, Sonnys is real close to 95 on the left side. The bushes need to be trimmed because we drove right by it.
