Just waited 20 minutes in the drive through to drive up to the window and be told their card machine was down. Are you kidding me?! Why didn't someone say something when I ordered? It would have saved me 20 minutes of my life and kept them from wasting food and a drink! And in all honesty this isn't the first time stuff like this has happened at this Sonic. Customer service is always subpar, the trash cans are always overflowing on the ground and the drive through takes FOREVER. The owner of this establishment should really look into changing management or hiring a staff that knows what they're doing. WORST SONIC EVER!!! I have lived in 5 different states and visited Sonics in every one and this one is by far the worst. Not only did I have to push the call button 3 times to get someone to take my order but once someone did answer we were interrupted and I had to start all over and then we had to wait twenty minutes for our order and finally to put the cherry on top they forgot our hot dog. read more

Two trips in a row to this Sonic we ordered burgers through the app. When you do that, you can choose everything you want on the burger, so we ordered burgers with all the regular fixings, plus the mayo, mustard, and ketchup. Both times, we got our burgers with nothing on them except some ketchup (with the meat and bun). Emailed corporate about our experiences and got a "we're so sorry about that" response. Tonight we took our kiddos by on our evening bike ride, tried to order through the app - which was having issues placing our order - so we had to order through the pull up menu system. He charged us full price for everything (we get a discount ordering drinks through the app) - and shut off the mic before we could ask for the discount... so we clicked the mic to ask and had to wait a few more minutes before he got back on with us. When we asked for the discount, his reply was "we don't take app orders after 8pm". The app says we can order up to 9pm (this location closed at 10pm today), but he didn't even say he was sorry, or the system wouldn't allow him to do that, or anything. On my bike ride home, I noticed the app order did eventually successfully place, so I called the manager to cancel the order. He processed the cancellation but didn't have time to listen to my issue because they were "too busy right now". Now that's some amazing customer service. Go elsewhere if you want a good product, and even barely passable service. Sorry you're so busy, but you're not getting my business anymore. read more

Sonic is usually way overpriced, so we tend to go there only for specials (we have a large family). Typically we find out about their specials through their text alerts. Yesterday we received an alert about a discount on grilled cheese sandwiches. We were in Bakersfield when we received the alert, but we decided to wait until we got to Tehachapi to go to Sonic. Sadly, the employee we dealt with at Sonic rudely refused to honor the discount, saying "it's not in the computer." We showed her the messages about the discount on our phones, but she didn't care. When we asked to talk to a manager, she said that the manager would be here in the morning (which of course would be after the discount was no longer valid). In the past this Tehachapi Sonic has honored the discounts we receive by text messages. Was this just an example of a poorly-trained employee, or has this Sonic changed its policy on honoring discounts? Either way, this situation reflects very poorly on the management of this Sonic. In case it's not obvious, we left yesterday without purchasing anything. There are plenty of other reasonably priced fast food locations nearby (with regular prices often better than Sonic's specials). Nevertheless, I will admit that we will probably be back next time there is a half price shake deal (if they honor it). read more

This was my first and last experience with Sonic. We were starving and because of the commercials, have always been curious about Sonic. Since there isn't one in LA I went to this one where my Dad lives. So first, I ordered a double and got a single patty burger. The lettuce on the burgers were soggy like they had been sitting for a while. I ordered mozzarella sticks and of the 8 maybe 3 actually had mozzarella in them. The tater tots were good but how could you mess that up. I had already been warned about their fries so I got tots which I probably would have gotten regardless. Anyway. Terrible experience. Yea I don't think i'll go there again. I hate McDonald's but I would rather have gone there. read more

Two stars only because I love their drinks, but I've given this sonic a few more chances than I think they deserve now. This last time there was no one else in front of us and one other car in the parking lot and it took him a good five minutes just to ask us if he could take our order, then got short with us when we asked for a second. When we got our food and were about to leave he says in a very sarcastic voice "your welcome!" As if we were being rude for not saying thank you. Very poor customer service and also have never once gotten my marinara sauce with the mozzarella sticks when I've ask for it. read more

What do Americans love more than eating food in a restaurant? Eating food in a car. Sonic is the result of American ingenuity and this location in Tehachapi was no exception. I had to dock a couple points because despite being labeled as "fast food", our order took quite some time. Also, my deluxe chicken sandwich only came with mayonnaise (low on my totem pole of condiments). But it was the server who really made this Sonic the diamond in the rough that it is. I come here every day. Order over $20 each time I come to this store, Fridays I purchase $50 of food. (Every Friday) Today I order my normal lunch and I asked for extra sauce, I was given 1 for a large chicken strips. They said it will be .25 per extra sauce. Yes, It's only .25 per sauce. But I am (was) a loyal customer and now have to pay extra for sauce. I have put up with the horrible customer service with the manager with Hickies all over his neck (NASTY) because I like the food. But this draws the line for me. They just lost a loyal customer over .25. read more

This Sonic is clean and they always get our order right. The workers are friendly and fun. We visit it quite often and always get our order correct, with a smile and thank you. I haven't really been here much, but the last time that I did I ordered a cherry slushi, but not the food because I think its very bland. They took longer then I had expected, and there weren't very many people there anyways. I actually got sick from this slushie for some reason. I had one at about 6 at night and ate lunch at 12, so it wasn't my lunch. The service is nice but it's slow. read more

If I could give this location 0 stars I would. I've never made it through the drive through in less than 20 minutes. The food always tastes way worse than a normal sonic. One time the ice cream was actually sour. I forget and make the mistake of coming back every 6 months or so. Staff is always clueless and seems to struggle to get an order properly and very rarely do they actually give you what you order. It's truly amazing the place is even still open. read more

It's worth the desire my family has dreamed of. Sonic presents food as whatever taste is known only provides on the basis shared among us in two parking lots for good times. Workers get few during the rush and chicken holds up as I'm reaching into bags towards prices shown on menu until favorite words between us and the working crew remind me of privilege over Tehachapi's hills, so it's easy to lose myself and understand the better satisfaction near a drive-thru located on fun. Mountains around here go on what's sentimental yet for quick benefits at the wheel dad takes with a burger after I'm done on thoroughness across from wrappers close to the breaking point of hunger in outdoor dining. This drive-in restaurant may be as clear when great over the horizon. General plants surround big places under our car although dispute on experience leaves workers as related to my call in numbers, selections, and hearty grilled chicken along lines of dieting through opinion or clickable signs. So much happens on a whim. My orders are just told in front of a worker's demonstration when drivers within sight compare fries prior to delight against eating spots, for, however sandwiches get managed and drinks wash away the bite, Sonic's pretty well famous in regards to outdoor experience and plain settings all over vehicles not inside of dining except by special, visual principle. Burgers can be so delicious you might have to eat the napkin also. So much happens. Whenever flavor is realized there's points to consider- cash at hand, dreams of food, roaring vehicles, to eat against parking lot, those little fries I discover in my bag under a huge sandwich, and service which isn't merely existence. Have you ever been to other restaurants who seem to just exist and not really give service? Thank goodness Sonic here fails to be a horrible trick like such resting points! OMG! We love Sonic but today was the worst ever! First, the apple slices were outdated by 2 weeks and mush in the bag. Then, the grilled cheese sandwich that I was going to give to my 2 year old baby was absolutely disgusting! I tore the corner off to give him a piece and noticed that the inside had black stuff on it. I pulled it apart and wow! Did they drop it on the ground?! It looked like it was put open face down on the grill or something.. ah! And then, my daughter's New York dog was undercooked or just plain OLD. And the tater tots were super old and dry. I have moved here from the Midwest & have always loved sonic. This one has never once been able to get my order right. Most times they don't even manage to get me the right number of drinks. Most of the little drive up speaker/debit machines don't work. There has been many times that I have been there that some employee is talking on the phone to someone while helping me or they're walking back & forth to their car. I'm not one to write reviews about a place even if the experience wasn't a great one but the guy at this sonic in my hometown was down right rude. I get there and notice it's not busy but one car at the window. I pull up to the drive through speaker and waited for a few min before saying "hello" as there was no greeting whatsoever upon my arrival. I pull up a little bit forward twice thinking maybe I hadn't pulled up far enough. I'm far up enough where if there had been a person in the back of my truck they could've ordered through the window with no problem. After another few min of saying "hello" there was still no answer. I'm also far enough ahead to see if the one car at the window was still there. It's not, so I went ahead and pulled up to the window. The two people inside working saw me but kept working and ignored me for about 3 min. Then finally a guy opens the window and says, "did you order already?" I said, "no I pulled up because no one would answer me" he says, "oh you didn't pull up far enough." Let me just also say that I have a huge long ass truck and know that I did pull up far enough. I said "I pulled up closer twice" and he proceeded to say, "also you need to wait til we're done with an order before you." All I said was ok. And waited another 10 min before getting my food. We really are not fans of this place, but we've been seeing their commercials for their new shakes so decided to give them another go. I ordered the Dark Chocolate Master shake and my daughter got the Oreo Chocolate shake. While we got them quickly - there were no other customers waiting - the carhop who brought them out acted as if she was bored out of her mind. She handed me the drinks and when I asked her which is which, she said "I have no clue" and sighed. I had to ask her for straws and she brought no napkins with her. My daughter enjoyed her shake, with bits of cookies at the bottom. Mine was SUPPOSED to be DARK CHOCOLATE, but I've had vanilla shakes that tasted more like chocolate than this one. On the other hand, I went back (glutton for punishment, I guess) and got the Coconut Cream Pie shake (which was YUMMY) plus another Oreo for the daughter; the young guy who served me was very nice and did know which was which.
