Love this place! We had such a good time here. The ambiance is nice and relaxing, dim but not too dark. We ordered the linguini with mushrooms and chicken, and the special lemon sole. Would give it 4-1/2 stars if possible. Couple of minor things kept it from a "Great" rating. Stopped by with family to use a X-Mas gift card. The Salad Pizza and Gnocchi Sorrentina were great, I ordered the Homemade Ravioli in chicken broth, again...very good but I feel as if the broth should be thickened slightly so the Ravioli do not seem as though they are swimming in a pool of broth, thickening it would allow the broth and Ravioli to "stick" better getting the flavor of both in one bite. In town for a college visit and stopped by Sonia's for dinner with the family. Immediately entering we were greeted by several. We ordered the Eggplant Parmesan, Gnocchi with sausage, Alfredo and Alfredo with mushrooms. All the food was amazing, I was a huge fan of the Gnocchi with Sausage! When I say home made, it is made right there in the kitchen by Grandma, while you wait, chatting with the friendly staff. This family run restaurant continues to amaze. From the fresh home made oven baked bread with delicious olive oil brought to you, to the desert, everything is perfect. The tiramisu is by far the best I have ever had. That too, home made by Nonna. Had an absolutely fantastic dinner at this hidden spot in a strip mall in Fairfield. If you weren't looking carefully you might miss it! I went there for a friend's birthday celebration. They handled our large group seamlessly and with friendliness. Despite the front looking like a pizza place, the restaurant aspect is beautiful and intimate. The food was absolutely delicious. I wanted everything on the menu but I settled for the in house made gnocchi, which was amazing. We also tried the garlic toast and the mozzarella sticks which were some of the best I have ever had. My dad had the Bolognese which he was raving about all the way home. I rarely clean my plate at an Italian restaurant, but I did here! I can't wait to return! read more

Wonderful. My sisters and I went there for Black Friday lunch and it was delicious. We had the garlic knots, and the burrata with prosciutto for an appetizer. We are always greeted with a smile when we enter as if we are old friends. A local spot that has a nice variety of regular items and specials. If this restaurant was 3 blocks closer to downtown, it would be packed. It is a relaxed where you can hear each other talk but not so quiet you feel like you have to whisper. Stopped in to dine at this place and was really impressed with the decor. I had visited this place when it was a different restaurant and you can tell they made some serious renovations. For starters we had the charcuterie board which was really good. It came with various pieces of Italian meats along with 3 types of cheeses, olives and some fog spread. For my meal I had the NY Strip with mixed veggies and my girlfriend had the duck wings. The meal was okay but not out of this world. The steak temperature was a little off but not too bad. BEST chocolate lava cake ever! I would go back only for this. And the lovely ambiance and the super sweet wait staff. The food? Chicken parmesan was very, very good! Unfortunately that wasn't my entree, but I kept stealing bites. 4+ stars for that. Chicken Masala -- 2 stars - Chicken was not tender enough and the sauce not rich or flavorful enough and a bit too oily with only a couple mushrooms. The side spaghetti was...different.. it had a strange texture. The Rigatoni Bolognese -- 2 stars - wayy too much salt in the sauce. Didn't care for the overall flavor.. Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente though. Keep in mind I am too particular when it comes to Italian food. Tiramisu? Too cake-y. Definitely skip and go for that lava cake! read more

Finally made our way to SGK. Really cool atmosphere inside. Extremely friendly staff, made my daughter and I feel welcomed as soon as we walked in. A really solid selection of wines is available, as well as cocktails and beer. I had the most delicious gazpacho from the specials menu, so good! My daughter had fish and chips, which were also on the specials menu that day. And I had home made Linguini, with Chicken, Fresh Mozzarella, Asparagus, Roasted Red Peppers Finished with Beurre Blanc Sauce. So good! Can't wait to go back again! read more

Found our way here by accident. What a find! Beautiful atmosphere. I had the scallops with vegetable risotto, which featured large scallops and jumbo shrimp. Very fresh ingredients. What a Fantastic find!! Service, Food, Atmosphere all 5 stars. First impression was the bread. The bread is slightly toasted and has a smoky flavor to it. My guess is from a brick oven. They severe the bread with this little bottle which holds both Blasamic vinegar and Olive oil to pour onto the bread. I knew right away from this alone that this was gonna be a great experience. Appetizer of choice was the Brussels sprouts. The best I've ever had. I had the home made fettuccine with mushrooms. Simply delicious. Couple with us had this egg drop soup which was on special menu which they said was fantastic. Eggplant the best. One word of caution is don't get the carrot cake. It's not your traditional carrot cake. It was hot weird concoction not resembling carrot cake at all. Waitress however replaced for me with Cheesecake which was very good. Coffee was good too and I'm a coffee snob. I could go on n on. This is now my goto place for Italian food. I'm a Foodie. I worked in a restaurant for 10 years and extremely picky. Trust me this you want to check out. It's in a strip mall next to Bob's in Fairfield off exit 22. One other big bonus for us is that it's not noisy like some places. This place has some amazing things going for it and some reasons that I'm disappointed. If you order a dish with red sauce, don't. They literally ladle it over strained spaghetti... it would make Scott Conant freak. It made me freak at least... I'm a home cook and it wouldn't occur to me to do that. The sauce and pasta should be cooked together. Other dishes are very, very good. Like their specials and, for me personally, I love their chicken pesto penne. It even delivers well. But here's the thing - the portion is very small. That can be said for all of their dishes - at least the ones my wife, son, and I have ordered over the last two years or so. Bluntly, they are stingy. Really, from a food cost standpoint, why not add some additional pasta? The pizza is just ok. Obviously many options in Fairfield for that. This isn't a go-to for pizza place. If you do, ask for extra sauce. It's a bit "sitting around" without ordering that. I'm not saying it IS sitting around - I think this is a place that mostly tries to execute the menu fresh - but the pizza has that "been sitting around on the counter" quality to it. The environment is nice. The people (family) that work there are nice. They will listen to your pov politely, but they don't "hear" -- won't do a thing about it. Overall it's a "yes" for me. Don't get any red sauce dish, and expect small portions, and don't rely on the pizza being GREAT other than maybe a cheese for the kids. But all of that aside, everything else it delicious and so it's still recommended by me. Crazy review, eh? Well it is what it is. read more

We happened into Sonia's a few weeks ago for our usual Tuesday evening downtown adventure with our neighbors. SGK is in the location of a favorite restaurant when I was growing up, DePonte's Italian Restaurant & Pizza. We would go there and play pinball while eating slices. If we got a high score Tony DePonte would write our name and score on a paper plate and stick it to the machine for ALL to see! Occasionally he would ask one or 2 of us to bus tables and pay us in quarters and slices...Magical!... I digress... Anyway, we went in 4 adults and 3 hungry children. We were greeted and seated across from where the pinball machines used to be (OK, I'll stop). The decor is updated and very comfortable. One of the owners, Marvin has been there every time and is welcoming and attentive. We were seated and provided with menus, specials, and an extensive wine list. Having a couple of hangry kids, the waitress immediately placed an order to tide them over and came back for our drink order while placing some very good bread and EVOO on the table. We were also asked whether we wanted sparkling or tap water (Tap please). We received our cocktails and a bottle of wine which was opened and offered for tasting. Our app and entree order were taken and the lid's app came right out. Between us, it seems that we ordered one of everything! The meal was awesome. The service was great and I declared it my new favorite Italian restaurant in town... Even without pinball! Since then we have eaten there on four occasions without disappointment. We have had: Wings nicely fried 8/$11 Crispy Calamari: Was very crispy and delicious $12 A side of meatballs: I cannot emphasize enough the need to get this dish! 2 large beautiful meatballs in an amazing sauce that has been cooking for hours. The meatballs were tender and flavorful... One of my favorites! $6 Pizza: Thin perfectly done crust with a great sauce, and perfectly done $16/Lg They have a large selection of specialty pies we haven't tried yet. There are also dessert pizzas... We will talk about that later :) Sea Scallops and shrimp with veggie risotto: Again perfectly done and the risotto was awesome! $25 Spaghetti & meatballs: See the meatballs above and imagine with delicious spaghetti! The "Brave One" Panini: Steak & Crispy Chicken, Hot Cherry Peppers, Fresh Jalapeno Peppers, Red Pepper Flakes, Tomatoes, Lettuce & Chipotle Aioli $15 Chicken Cutlet Sandwich: Pretty standard $10 Salmon with sauteed broccoli & REAL mashed potatoes $20 Kale and quinoa salad $12 SGK Salad: This is a big, delicious salad $11 Mac & Cheese: The kids raved over it $9.95 Hand-cut fries! Cheese Cake: I like it plain and it was very good $8 Most recently, SGK had a 1/2 roasted chicken. Made to order, we were told it would take ~35 minutes to prepare... It was well worth the wait! It came out golden brown with an incredible cherry pepper (Scarpiello) sauce that had nice heat and amazing flavor. It comes with real mashed potatoes that are notable in their own right. This dish is worth a trip and the wait!!! And finally, THE M&M Cookie Dessert Pizza: One of four dessert pizzas, it's like they got a hold of and read my diary! Warm, sweet, melty goodness $14... If only the children hadn't seen it :( There is also Chocolate Chip & Peanut Butter Pizza $14, S'Mores Pizza $15, and Sweet Tooth Jackie's Pizza $18... You'll have to go to SGK to find out what's on it :) Obviously, we are BIG fans! We have never been disappointed with the meal, wine, service or price. We highly recommend if you are in the area or looking for a new place on the Post Road in Fairfield that you pull into this strip of stores (SGK is right next to Bob's Store) and enjoy a great meal or take-out. read more

Great comfort Italian food in Fairfield. I had a good homemade fettuccini with mushrooms and chicken in brown sauce. Definitely will come back to try some of the other homemade pastas. Wife had a very good eggplant parmigiana although spaghetti could have been a little better. Surprise of the meal however was the meatball parm...one of the best ones I've had in recent memory. Son had a a pretty standard chicken tender meal and the fries were apparently delicious. The chocolate lava dessert was very good. Service was very attentive and friendly; handled a glitch in the order with class. Nice wine and beer selection. Clean and comfy interior. Sonia's Gourmet Kitchen is an amazing hidden gem! It's a family-run establishment with an inviting warm ambiance and great homemade food. My family of 5 people, all different types of eaters, thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We started with the vegetarian pizza and Brussels sprouts salad. I wasn't a big fan of the pizza crust, but the perfectly-done pizza toppings more than made up for that! The Brussels sprouts salad was very tasty - I always love this dish because the risotto cake and salad compliment each other very well. It's a good item to share since it's rich. For my entree, I ordered Jasmine's quinoa salad with salmon. It was a nice portion and was very fresh and flavorful! The addition of blueberries is unique. My only gripe is that I thought there should have been more salad dressing, as it was slightly dry and I couldn't taste the passionfruit dressing. I also tried some of my sister's penne vodka, which was also great! read more

Late dinner treat. Really friendly greeting by owners and staff. Very attentive. Beautiful décor. It's in an unassuming location and looks really small from outside, but it goes pretty deep so they have a lot of tables (and some outdoor dining also). No apps tonight.
