Yall, I was surprised to read the negative reviews of this place lol. One person be like "oNE sTAr" for fantastic foods but they "always" open late which i somehow doubt this person went here everyday at opening time.. smh Anyway, my experience is that the foods here are consistently delicious. My parents, sister, BIL and his parents, my young nephews (who still need high chairs) and i have always had great tasting noodle soup dishes and friendly, accommodating service here. We have tried most dishes on the menu like bún mắm, hủ tiếu mực, bún quậy, bún đậu mắm tôm, canh bún, bún riêu, mì trộn muối ớt (authentically made btw ehem), mì quảng, bún cá multiple times and the broth is always clean tasting and naturally sweet that is achieved from fresh ingredients, not msg. My family is from a beach town in Vietnam so we know truly fresh tasting seafoods when we taste them. I personally love their hủ tiếu mực sữa and my mom loves their bún quậy (we both love the chili sauce they give on the side to dip our seafoods!!). We also give them a lot of credit for having the broths of the different noodle dishes taste distinct from one another (instead of places using the same base/broth for most of their noodle soup dishes). The first location was smaller but we still came with a big party (6+) many times and the staff was always nice and helpful. Our family liked the new and bigger second location because of the bigger space that we felt we could take our time more. Also, a general tip for my non-asian foodies: typically if an asian place in a predominantly asian area has lower review ratings but is still in business over the years, then ya know the food is good! :) read more

The quality during my past two visits within a month has consistently gone downhill. I've always loved Canh Bun, so of course I had to order it. The first time I had Canh Bun from their original location, it was delicious, which is why their second location became one of my go-to spots. However, their Canh Bun meatballs tasted funky -- like the meat had been refrigerated for too long and tasted old. Still traumatized from that bowl of Canh Bun, I decided to give them one more chance recently and ordered Bun Rieu instead. When they brought out the vegetable plate, the banana blossom was black and soggy. I had to ask for a new one, or at least a replacement like bean sprouts instead. The broth for the Bun Rieu was bland, and the meatballs and rieu didn't taste good either. Even the fish cake tasted bland and rubbery, not chewy the way fish cake should be. The restaurant is clean and well organized. The staff are very friendly and fast with orders. We always come here for their bun mam. The fish, the shrimp, the broth are very flavorful. They also give you plenty of vegetables to eat with. The portion is pretty good for one person. I'll try the rest of the menu in my next visits :) read more

Like other posters have said, portion size is ok. Service is decent. But I have to say, the bun mam does not taste like regular bun mam from the South at all. It's not sweet enough. The mam me (tamarind sauce) is also supposed to be a bit sweet. This place's mam me is just sour. The reason why bun mam needs to be sweet enough so that it balances out the bitter herb that accompanied it. Instead, the herb's bitterness overwhelmed the dish. Love this place--this was my second visit (my first was with my mom). The bún mắm waa the star of the menu, and the hủ tiếu mực sữa is AMAZING, especially when dipped in the sauce. At just $15 a bowl, it was incredibly filling and kept me full for hours. Great value, great flavor. I'll definitely be back. read more

I ordered bún mắm, bún đậu mắm tôm, and canh bún. All the dishes were tasty, but a bit salty for my preference, so I had to add quite a lot of lime. The shrimp and fish in the bún mắm were very fresh. The roast pork was good, though slightly salty as well. I especially liked the bún đậu mắm tôm because the pressed vermicelli was very similar to what you'd find in Vietnam. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and feels airy and comfortable. Who on Earth thought it would be a good idea to open a second location?? The menu and restaurant itself seemed very promising, considering the options looked good, but the execution did not meet our expectations. The food was very bland and lacked flavor for nearly every dish. I'm hoping that it was just that one day that we came where the food was a bit off, and the other days are better. My dad is the one person in our family that we can always count on to eat our leftovers, but the food was so flavorless that he couldn't even finish it himself. * Mì Quảng Miền Trung: 6/10 - could barely taste the broth * Bún Bò Đặc Biệt: 6/10 - extremely bland for a dish that's known for its intense flavors * Canh Bún Đặc Biệt: 4/10 - broth tasted like water The interior was nice and rather spacious, but the booths were kind of sticky. There were also a lot of flies flying around our table, which were quite annoying. Another downside to the location is the parking. It's located on the edge of the Garden Grove Plaza, so it's easy to spot, but parking could get difficult at peak times. I stopped by to support this new spot. I ordered the bún mắm, one of my favorite dishes, but the flavor was a bit bland , missing that lemongrass aroma, and the soup was served lukewarm instead of hot. My friend got the bánh canh đèn dầu it was okay, but the bowl looked big mostly because it was full of broth, not much inside. The place is clean since it's new, but the staff didn't seem very attentive. I asked for a small bowl for fish sauce and had to wait quite a while. Overall, food and service were just okay , not really worth waiting for. Hopefully, the restaurant can improve, since I'm one of the first people to leave a review. read more

I really want to give this place a chance. So I decided to pay a 2nd visit, since the menu offered some interesting dishes that are not the typical Viet noodles that you often see at the restaurants around here. This time, I ordered something that I've never heard of, Mì Trộn Muối Ớt (ramen type noodles mixed with salt and red chilli peppers). The dish is seems to be born from some home kitchen and basically whatever you find, just tossed them together with your instant ramen... The instant ramen is served dry with a bowl of broth on the side. The ramen is mixed with scallions and crispy pork rinds. The broth is a mashed up of sliced beef, shrimp, a poached egg, beef meatball, and a slice of chả cá. The broth also had scallions as well. And on the side is a dipping dish of crystallized salt and chilli peppers, and a slice of lime. As far as the taste goes, it is not bad, but also nothing out of this world. The broth had this murky floaty strands of something, which I cannot make out, and assume it's from the poached egg. However, it makes the dish somewhat unappetizing :-( Overall, it seems like this dish was born out of boredom and mix bag of whatever is left in the fridge... So we came here a few years ago. When we were on vacation in LA and it's been a while and we just came back to LA for vacation, and we just had to come back to try to hot pot again. Here it was so good. The last time that I could remember. The soup broth was really good. Lots of flavor nice and rich. We had a lot of nice fresh vegetables along with some fresh shrimp and catfish. Some roasted pork. Lots of room and available seating herez very spacious. . Excellent, service from server, attentive, and they forgot to let us know about the buy 2 drinks get 1 free and let us know when we paid, apologizd and we got the free drink after. Such a good first time try! My friends wanted Bun Mam so we tried to go to the other location...but it was closed for some reason so we came to this one! There was some confusion at first because their menu was so small so we had to ask if they had Bun Bo Hue(they did!!) the broth for the Bun Mam and Bun Bo was so yummy! My friends and I were impressed! It was crowded, so we were waiting for a bit after ordering. Parking lot is a bit small too, so be mindful. Honestly such a good spot! read more

Good food the mi quang was good and and the banh canh too. Their cha had good flavor and texture, slightly spicy. Their sauces were also interesting, one had pepper and lemon grass. Everything tasted decent, but the service is non existent and there are a lot of flies. And the tables are slightly sticky. read more

This place is known for their bun mam and it was good. Can't say it was the best bum mam I've ever had but it's good. Toppings were fresh and variety. Also got the bun dau mam tom, the mam tom was on the sweeter side catering to southerners tongue. But toppings were good and the noodles were pressed to cubes which is the authentic way for this dish. They also had other Vietnamese noodle dishes all in one spot. I was a usual at the old location. This new location was horrible. I recently ordered the Bun Dau mem and it came with not sliced pork. I'd asked several servers to replaced the missing pork but was ignored. I'd also noticed portions were smaller than old location. I would not recommend this place. I liked the old location, I like the new one. Our favorite bun bo hue in little saigon.

I have tried bun rieu here and I love it. But I do not recommend bun cá Nha Trang because the fish has a very fishy smell. The service is ok & it is all depends on who is your servers. The cleanest and the atmosphere are also ok. read more

The new location did not seem sanitary. We spotted a tiny cockroach crawling in the chopstick/spoon compartment, which was very concerning. The lady at the front was also quite rude and had a bad attitude. I'm not sure if she is the owner, but it was surprising to see someone treat customers that way. When we asked to be seated at one of the outdoor tables, she rolled her eyes and made gestures showing annoyance. She told us no, but shortly after, three tables of people who arrived after us were seated outside. I'm not sure why we weren't allowed to sit there. Bad service! I asked for mixed mam tom but the kitchen refuse to give me the one thats mixed and uncooked and then after gave me raw mam tom in the bottle to mix it myself. (Its bun dau mam tom) The other day the owner told us that if we want the mam tom sui bot thats uncooked just ask the kitchen. And when we do they gave us raw mam tom told us to mix it ourself.
