Now yall know I LOVE me some tacos... So I can tell a place has good tacos when I strip all the extras from the tacos and it's still BOMB! I ordered the fried fish taco and the fried shrimp taco plate with no chipotle cream, no cheese, and no mayo sauce on the tortillas. And the tacos were still bomb! See, that's how you know it's good. So imagine if all the extras were added back in! Phew! I also ordered guacamole, and though the portion was small, the flavor was there! The vibe is super chill, and the music was not too loud, thankfully! Also, I appreciated how accommodating the owners and workers were. I hosted a small event here on a Tuesday night and they were super accommodating and even offered to let us park and block parking spaces (of course being willing to move when needed). The parking around the restaurant was atrocious so prepare for that. Everyone seemed to love their food and I was told that the ceviche was spectacular. We will be back next month and I'm glad they're welcoming us!

Enfrijoladas

Some of my girlfriends and I stopped by here for brunch/lunch on a Thursday - no wait at all! We dined outside since it was a sunny day, but there's indoor seating as well. Ambiance outside was perfect with Latin music playing at a good volume as well. There's a small parking lot in front of the restaurant but it's mostly street parking in the nearby residential areas. What we got: -Chicken breast plate: friend got this, she enjoyed her meal. Also came with some refried beans! -Fish tacos: friend got this, she also enjoyed her meal! Reasonable price as well. -Enfrijoladas: friend got this, she enjoyed her meal! She also got it with the cecina, which is a seasoned beef and known to be on the drier side. -Entomatodas: I got this with the asada and sunny side up eggs. Delicious and just what I needed as my first meal of the day! The asada was flavorful and paired well with the tortillas that were stuffed with cheese. Yummy house sauce! -Horchata: powdery residue but still good! -Horchata con tuna: this drink tasted even more refreshing than the horchata by itself! The "tuna" refers to the prickly pear :) would totally recommend this! Overall, we enjoyed our meal! I'd come back here to try some of their other menu items like the enchiladas oaxaquenas or the mole. Standard brunch price for decent portions. Big shoutout and thank you to our lovely server Yuliana for being so attentive and making sure we had a great meal :)

Tlayuda

All our food was very good. We ordered a tlayuda mixta, torta, and alambre dish. As for drinks, horchata was very good and the michelada as well.

Terrible fish tacos

Ordered the fried fish tacos to go...cold, terrible. They gave me grilled. And no sauce with the dry tacos. No flavor.

Sea Bass Ceviche

Well, this Oaxaca Mexican restaurant has definitely heightened the eating experience here on Venice Blvd... really fine dining quality and the presentations are just beautifully plated! We had the Sea Bass Cerviche which is pictured. Lots of avocado and fish and delicately made... wow! The Fajitas were definitely worth the visit. Flavor profile was enriched with layered spices. And so yummy! I really love this place and want to recommend it to anyone that loves authentic OAXACAN FOOD! Parking is challenging but we found close-by spaces on the side street .., be patient because it is so worth it!

What I Ordered: -1 Birria Queso Taco $6 -1 Consomme $3 I came here for a Yelp Elite Event. However, I was very hungry, but not so hungry that I wanted to order two whole dishes. Since, I was only one person. I decided to order one taco and a consommé to sample some other food here. I'm glad I did! The taco and consommé were the most delicious things I tried at the restaurant. I ordered Alambre Oaxaqueno for Yelp Elite Event and wasn't a fan of this dish at all. Silly me! I ignored the server's recommendations of the Birria Queso Tacos. I decided to buy one taco and and get the side of the consommé. The price for one taco is $6 which is a pretty steep price tag for one taco. I usually don't like to spend more the $4 for Taco unless I go to Michelin-starred restaurant like Holbox. I have to say the Birria Queso Taco was delicious. The consommé was pretty good. I would definitely order the Birria Queso Tacos again. I would definitely come back here for some delicious Birria Queso Tacos.

2 for 1 Monday margs
Stephanie V.

Every time I drive by this place the pink neon sign always catches my attention. On a Monday evening I finally decided to give it a go. To our surprise it was Mariachi Monday and 2 for 1 Monday margs. We opted with the Maracuya marg and the tamarindo both were yummy. We ordered finger food, the chorizo flautas were a perfect snack. Between the staff, mariachis and ambiance of the place we enjoyed our time there. We will be back another time for dinner and brunch. I will say though, parking was very limited and full for a Monday night. Luckily Somos Oaxaca is on a huge Main Street and parking shouldn't be hard to find. We love to see Latinos thrive.

We ordered chicken enchiladas oaxaqueno in the mole sauce, alambre oaxqueno (a skillet of roasted beef, vegetables, onions, covered with the melted regional mozzarella-like cheese and tortillas made in the house and a very piquant red sauce. First and foremost, the mole sauce blew us away. It was dark brown and had a rich, chocolate flavor with a nice spicy kick at the end. Really good! The alambre skillet beef was extremely good and juicy and very filling. The spicy margarita was refreshing and the flan was very good. The service was welcoming and efficient. We are looking forward to returning to this fine Oaxacan restaurant.

The food, the atmosphere, great place! If I lived in the state it would be a favorite of mine.

Birria questo tacos.

Tucked away on a corner of Venice Blvd., Somos Oaxaco is more than it seems at first. There's a little patio and a modest dining room. Just a normal taco place until the food arrives. Delicious! First, the chips and salsa are great. I had heard of birria queso tacos but had never tried them. Why did I wait so long? Their version is so mouth-watering, especially after dipping them into the "consommé" alongside--such intense flavor bathing the crisp, cheesy, meat-stuffed taco. I could have eaten twice as many. And the margarita was decent too. Check it out.

El servicio es bueno y el menu cuenta con variedad platillos tipicos de Oaxaca. El mole es delicioso y al igual que el café de olla. Del menú de brunch, los chilaquiles y entomatadas son de mis favoritos.

What a great find!!! Delicious food and drinks with awesome staff and great ambiance!! We were around the area and my husband was craving Mexican. So of course, I started craving molé! I ordered their mole negro (Chicken in mole with rice) my husband ordered their estofado con pollo which was another winner!! Our kids loved their tacos and they also started eating my husband's dish. Their food and drinks were *chef's kiss* *kiss* delectable! We got lucky cuz it was margarita Monday when we went. So of course, we had to try their margarita. I ended up with 4 lol! Their margaritas were dangerously delicious!! I had their spicy, tamarindo, maracuja and then I asked if I can have a spicy maracuja! They were happy to accommodate my request. Our server Jesus was attentive and accommodating. The vibe is great as well; especially around 7:30ish. They had a band that started playing. It got packed pretty quick; I'm guessing the dinner rush. We were lucky to arrive before the dinner rush. We were told that there's always a band that plays every Friday from 7pm-10:00pm. Jesus explained to us that the "band" currently playing is not exactly a "band" but rather they're called "tamborazo"; like a different genre like a mariachi. Prior to the band playing, they have a couple tv's that had the Monday night football and copa americana futball playing. Parking is really rough. So you're better off parking on the streets. Regardless, we highly recommend this place. We will definitely come back!!

We kicked things off with the queso fundido, and wow, it was absolutely delicious! Rich, melty, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect way to start the evening. For my entrée, I ordered the cochinita pibil, which was incredibly tender and saucy in the best way. My husband ordered the short rib, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. On the side, we shared the papas bravas and esquite, both of which complemented our dishes perfectly. The drinks truly elevated the night. My husband and I both love mezcal, and Kateen delivered. I ordered the Valentine's Day "Zona Romántica," which featured mezcal and wine almost like a sangria, but completely unique and beautifully balanced. My husband had the "Gypsy Fever," also mezcal-based, and it was smoky, smooth, and refreshing. Between the food, cocktails, and ambiance, it made for such a romantic and memorable evening. However, the reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of the valet parking experience. First, I was charged $25 even though the sign clearly stated that valet parking is $17 for the first 3 hours, and $25 after 3 hours. Our reservation was at 6:30 PM, we arrived on time, and we left before 9 PM, so the charge did not make sense. When I asked the valet attendant, he kept saying, "because you dined there," without giving any clear explanation. If it is actually a flat rate for restaurant guests, then that should be clearly stated upfront to customers. Second, when I got into my car, I noticed that someone had touched the navigation settings because the compass direction and display were different from what I normally use. I do not understand why there was any need to adjust or touch my navigation system at all. I really think the restaurant needs to improve and better manage its valet parking system. Honestly, it felt like I was being charged a random price just because I was told, "you dined there." If there is a flat valet rate for restaurant guests, that information should be clearly communicated upfront instead of leaving customers confused at the end.

The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us.
