Overall it was pretty good. Nothing crazy. The custard filled waffle was just okay. It didn't have a ton of flavor. The ice cream was silky smooth but kind of one note on the flavor. I got the pistachio/oreo swirl and it didn't really taste like pistachio or Oreo lol it was just kind of vanilla. Worth a try, but I would go out of my way to get it again. There was a line, but the service moved fast and didn't take long at all. The tables are all very sticky and dirty, so be careful when you sit down.
Tried the ice cream and it's so smooth and creamy! they give you sooo much too ! You can actually ask for less ice cream which is nice to know. I got the ube and pistachio flavors. The pistachio kinda threw me off because it wasn't green and I didn't taste any pistachio flavor. The ube was def good. It came with a free topping of either strawberry or macaroon. I got the macaroon and topped my ice cream with biscoff which paired great ! Also couldn't leave without ordering the oreo filled taiyaki. Parking lot is super small, but was lucky enough to nab a spot. Service was very kind and there's a little standing bar area along the wall. It looked like a connected cafe next door with some seating.
This place never disappoints! Got their flavor of the month which was a delicious cookies and cream matcha swirl and it was incredible! Extremely creamy and delicious, a true soft serve. The waffle cone was filled with matcha custard, which was perfectly sweet and slightly bitter. I decided to top the ice cream with Oreo dust, which was the cherry on top. Always lovely customer service.

Stopped by Somisomi for a quick late night treat. The prices are great for the servings, it's a lot of ice cream. We got our ice cream pretty quickly. The staff were okay. It was loud inside and we ate our ice cream outside where they had some tables with benches. The ice cream was delicious and very creamy. I ordered the matcha and cookies n cream swirl which was a good combo.

We always get the upside down ahboong cookies n cream or ube swirl with nutella filling We also get the taiyaki to go so it's fresh :) Parking lot is usually busy so keep that in mind. My fav part about this place is the toppings are included with your purchase. There's biscoff, Oreo, fruity pebbles, macaron, coconut flakes, and captain crunch. Quick service and ambiance is nice but they only offer seating outside. There's a standing area inside. This is my go-to for dessert in Convoy!
I was lured into SomiSomi for their Dubai Chocolate taiyaki. SomiSomi is a popular Korean dessert shop known for their fish-shaped waffle cones and taiyaki filled with fun flavors. I'm not sure if it was just a busy Friday night or the hype around the new Dubai Chocolate flavor, but the line was out the door. I have also been to the location in Mira Mesa, and this Convoy location is noticeably smaller since it shares space with another cafe. Due to the size, they offer fewer flavors here which was a bit of a bummer. Still, I was mainly there for the taiyaki so I didn't mind too much. I ordered the 5 taiyaki combo which lets you choose from flavors like matcha custard, custard, cheddar, red bean, Nutella, Oreo, and black sesame. The limited-time flavors were mint Oreo and the Dubai Chocolate, with the Dubai Chocolate costing an extra $1.95 per taiyaki. Our total came out to a little over $14. The taiyaki batter is really satisfying. It's cooked in a waffle-style press which gives it a crispy exterior while the inside stays soft and slightly chewy. I do wish they had a way to label the taiyakis because it ended up being a game of Taiyaki roulette, trying to find which was what without having to investigate it too much. I know other locations mark it on the box in relation to its order in the box. I loved the cheddar filling because it almost tasted like a grilled cheese inside a waffle. The red bean tasted authentic and not overly sweet. The Oreo filling was literally a whole Oreo pressed in the middle. The Dubai Chocolate was easily my favorite of the night. Usually Dubai chocolate desserts can lean way too chocolate-heavy and overly sweet, but the filling here had a really nice balance between pistachio and chocolate. Combined with the crunch from the kataifi and the chewy taiyaki batter, it ended up being a really fun and satisfying treat.
Somisomi is known the their really cute fish shaped waffles called taiyaki. These are waffles that can be filled with your favorite fillings such as custard, red bean, matcha paste, black sesame paste, or Nutella. They're absolutely delicious hot off the griddle! It's also great when you add a hallow fish "bongsoo" on top of your soft serve!
Cheap and amazing! A little taste of heaven how can anyone go wrong with this for not even 7 bucks heck yeah! Service is counter service and it was a great place. 10000% coming back here

The employees are always very nice and they give you a lot of ice cream for the price. Parking is in a lot shared with other business but my friend and I managed to grab two spots on a Monday evening. There are places to stand by the window and some to sit in the cafe next door (inside and connected to Somi Somi). Pleased that it's still this good 4 years later.
Very tasty soft serve ice cream. Super nice. Expensive for the amount you get but it was nice as a treat. Taiyaki is one of my favorite Japanese desserts but got the one where it sits on top of the icecream. Great pastry though not much filling inside if you ask for it when it's on the ice cream. Busy locations, usually filled with young teens. Pretty loud inside as well but if you aren't spending too much time here that's fine.

We looked at the menu and had a hard time deciding. Soft serve which is a 3 step process: 1) You pick the type you want - with or without the fish waffle 2) There are 6 flavors of soft serve to pick from (I think some flavors are on rotation) and thank goodness banana pudding was an option because that was our immediate choice and it was DELICIOUS!!!! 3) Filling - 4 flavors for the fish waffle When it's ready, you get to choose the topping which was oreo for us. We shared one as two people can really share one and I only wanted a few spoonfuls to sample. Taiyaki - fish waffle with filling Do you get 2 for $4.95 or 5 for $9.75? I really wanted to try this so got one with custard filling (8 filling flavors to select from). I had to wait 5 minutes but when you get it, it's piping hot - so hot that you can't hold it so had to wait for it to cool in the take out box. It did not disappoint. Crispy waffle with creamy filling. It hit the spot! What's not to like!

I ordered the ube flavored soft serve and the custard filled taiyaki. They let you add free toppings which is a nice touch. I added fruity pebbles and a macaron. The soft serve is solid and not too sweet which I liked. I really enjoyed the taiyaki bites that had custard filling - it was absolutely creamy and delicious. However, it felt like more bites than not didn't have filling which was disappointing. Service was quite efficient especially considering the volume of customers serviced. There is plenty of seating at the tables and standing room at the side bar.

Stopped here after a dinner in convoy. I got the upside down ahboong with cookies and cream soft serve, nutella filling, Oreo crumbs, and a small macaroon. I felt I had to try the waffle fish even though I didn't get traditional Asian flavors. I'm glad they had some chocolate type flavors, but felt they could've had more. They had four flavors of soft serve: cookies and cream, ube, matcha, and pistachio. They had custard, red bean, black sesame, and Nutella fillings for the fish waffle cones. I was expecting the come to be crispy, but it was more like a fresh waffle. There was a short line to order on a Saturday evening, but the wait wasn't bad at all. They have three outdoor picnic tables and some benches. Parking is tough in this area, but we were able to find street parking a few blocks away. Nice spot for an after dinner treat! read more
This is truly one of my favorite ice cream shops I've been to, in a long time. First, the workers were very kind and answered any questions as a first time visitor. You can see the goldfish-shaped waffle being made fresh and even being asked what (if any) additional toppings to be added. The matcha was a perfect consistency of boldness to savory and (as their logo states) not too sweet. My favorite part was the sesame filling, as it rounded out the whole dessert. Got their new banana pudding flavor and really liked it. However maybe because I'm Not a huge fan of soft serve, I was not able to finish it. Def going to share with someone next time read more
This Convoy Street suite started out as Caffe Bene several years ago. The owners then transformed it into a more expansive Korean dessert stop. SomiSomi was the business to the right as you entered from the south side facing the parking lot. Soft serve ice cream was the first menu offering. Four base flavors and two swirl combinations were available with the latter being rotated weekly. The serving vessel could be a cup or ah-boong (fish-shaped waffle cone, normal or upside down). One of five fillings were then added to complete an order. The other dessert food was taiyaki which was a fish-shaped pastry using the same dough as ah-boong. Seven different fillings were featured. The taiyaki was sold in quantities of two or five. I bought two of them with custard as one filling and red bean as the other filling. You can watch the staff use a mold to form the pastry and then cook it on a cast iron griddle. The result was a photogenic, hot and fresh sweet treat. I liked the custard version better because of the creaminess. Outdoor seating was available as picnic tables in front of the entrance. Inside seating was shared with the business to the left that sold shaved ice, toast, coffee, and tea. I have visited both sides of the suite and for this latest trip to SomiSomi, I gave a four star rating. read more

Somi Somi never disappoint as it's very straight forward how to order and they have their formula down. You pick which flavor soft serve you want and they put it into the taiyaki (fish shaped waffle). Also in the taiyaki you can choose to have red bean or custard filling and then you pick your topping. This time we ordered the Thai tea and matcha swirl and custard filling with biscoff topping. Very mild tea flavors. They always offer 4 flavors and switch them up periodically. read more
My wife pointed Somisomi out while we walked along the sidewalk as she heard about them on social media. First of all, the surrounding area has tons of great Asian cuisine eateries that are all within walking distance, so to have a Somisomi where you can get some delicious dessert in the same vicinity is always a plus. The line moves fairly quickly and I believe the flavors we had were, cookies & cream and mango swirl. But let me tell you! That fish shaped waffle with hot chocolate or Nutella inside was FIRE. It was great addition to the cold ice cream. Bring your kids, bring a loved one, bring a friend, or just go try it yourself... you wont be disappointed. read more

What a perfect place for a sweet treat, this place is So Me, So Me (Somi Somi! Haha!) If I could review 6 stars, I absolutely would! The service was incredible, Tyler made sure of that. We were greeted with such enthusiasm and I felt right at home the second I walked in... I ordered the Matcha Ahboong with Nutella Filling and let me tell you something..... I have never put anything in my mouth that has astonished me more than what Tyler served me. The creamy goodness of the ice cream paired with the nutty filling of the cone made consumption such a delight. I will definitely be returning, and I HOPE Tyler is working. 100/10 will recommend... read more

This is my fav takyaki place in San Diego, but I dont know why their quality seems go down the last two visits very little filling only half of the filling compared to couple months ago. Owner if you see this please bring back the quality !!! read more
Somi Somi: Where Sugar Dreams and Credit Cards Collide... So our ravenous gang of 15 sugar-hungry humans stormed Somi Somi like it was the last dessert shop on Earth (because according to the kids, it practically is). I'll admit... it is worth the hype!! That matcha-ube swirl? A creamy yin-yang of earthy goodness and purple velvet. I also devoured two taiyaki: one stuffed with matcha custard, the other with Nutella, because clearly, moderation is for people who don't love themselves. BUT HOLD ON TO YOUR WALLET. Literally!! Because they don't take cash!!!! I handed some of the kids money like a generous dessert fairy godparent, only to have them return, empty-handed and confused, whispering the horror: "They said no... TO CASH!!!" Parking: Think "Hunger Games: Asphalt Edition." Tiny lot, paid parking, and a barcode scan situation. Because nothing pairs better with soft serve than downloading an app to avoid a ticket. Overall, sweet treat heaven, plastic only, and good luck parking your sugar fueled chariot. read more
What a sweet way to end a heavy meal! Only thing that threw me off was the layout there's a line between the two parlors, which made things a bit confusing at first. But once I got to the counter, it was smooth sailing. The ice cream? Smooth, rich, and absolutely delicious. The Ube and Matcha flavors were to die for perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. And topping it off with the Taiyaki (that fish-shaped waffle stuffed with red bean)? Chef's kiss. Soft, warm, and the perfect texture contrast to the cold creaminess. Luxurious. Silky smooth. I ordered the cookies and cream, custard filled fish waffle and was very impressed. I don't even like soft serve, but the flavor and mouth feel was outstanding. Every time I walk by, there's always a line, but it moved fast. I wanted ice cream originally but decided to give this place a try. The only thing is that parking sucks but happened to get lucky. I love this place so much! I come here every time I come to Convoy. The Nutella boong uh bang are my favorite. Though all of their desserts look so good. It's very popular so it's usually pretty crowded but the long line is usually for the ice cream. If you just want the Nutella boong a bang, you can go to the counter to the left and order which is always a wayyyyy shorter line. Thankfully, even though it's a bit busy I've always been able to find a seat. Parking can be rough but if you wait a little while you should be able to find something. The inside is cute and has good vibes. read more

I love a good taiyaki and when you add ice cream, it's a winning combo. I got the matcha and peach swirl soft serve, topped with coconut flakes. In addition to the toppings, you can finish up your dessert with a macaron or strawberry. It's the perfect treat especially on a warm day. The parking lot has free 2 hour parking for customers. read more
Love their soft serve, one of my go to spots for dessert/soft serve! They specialize in Asian inspired flavors which rotate regularly so there's always something new to try. I usually opt for their swirls and this time I got a banana pudding matcha swirl. Toppings are free so I got biscoff crumbles and fruity pebbles which add a nice crunch. The soft serve is always so creamy, perfectly sweet and you can really taste the flavors. Service is pretty quick and nice. There's no seating inside somi somi but they share a common seating space in Sul & Beans next door. read more

Another great experience at Somisomi! Service was quick, friendly, and helpful. I got the peach flavor with a custard filled ahboong and fruity pebbles. The ice cream was smooth and really yummy! I do like the matcha and ube swirl better, but think the peach is a great summer flavor! Very refreshing. There's limited seating to enjoy your dessert, but if you can snag an outdoor picnic table it's the perfect spot to hang out while eating! read more
This is a nice spot to go to for a late night sweet treat. They are open pretty late and around other good food spots. The parking is absolutely terrible. The line can also get ridiculously long. There is tables inside but also get filled pretty quick. They switch their flavors every so often & come out with new flavors too like earl grey which was terrible and very floral. No taste of tea at all. Their matcha & ube are always good. The taiyaki itself never disappoints and there are so many fillings to choose from but my go to is custard. read more

Line moved fairly quick & Friday night is pretty loud and busy. The only negative I have from my experience is that the area to pay is super far away placed closer to the worker than the customer. It's a bit difficult to reach and pay with card (no cash payments-- I believe). I don't remember the price, as I usually do text Reciept but I couldn't reach it (lol) so accidentally hit no Reciept. I got the Upside Down AhBoong with Nutella, Ube Soft Serve. Asked for Fruity Pebbles. I guess it depends on the location because this ube was a much lighter color than the others. Although the flavor of ube was still prominent. It was delicious with the addition of the fruity pebbles. The Ahboong wasn't warm, but it was well cooked with a subtle amount of Nutella. Overall, a delicious dessert to end the night. I'd recommend stopping in! read more

Cones are super fresh and crispy. I got the ube and matcha and they were good and not too heavy. The portions are very sizable for the price. It gets pretty busy but I've always been able to find seating. A great place to go to if you're looking for something different. read more

Love this SomiSomi location! I got the ube matcha swirl with the taiyaki fish and it was sooo good! Creamy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The Convoy location is more spacious than others, which is great because it does get busy after lunch and dinner, but the line moves pretty quickly. I brought my mom and aunt here and they both loved it. Definitely a go-to dessert spot! read more
Another popular gen z gathering sweet spot. Parking is difficult and tight. There are two stores in one spot selling taiyaki and Bingsoo. We tried Taiyaki this time. Cookie n cream & banana pudding and matcha n ube swirls. Would rank Matcha n ube higher personally. Crispy and soft fresh taiyaki never fails. Order and pickup at counter. Plenty of table and chair inside and outside. Good choice for dessert after a meal nearby. read more
This is just an amazing product on all accounts. The only shortcomings are lack of consistency in size/portion and customer service needs a bit of work. Guys, this is not the military, and one should not be in a hurry when ordering, especially if its the first time. How about a nice "Welcome" and "Is this your first time?"? TYPE, SIZE TOPPINGS STTAAATTTT!!!! wouch, slow down a millisec... Also, give me the "new" guy every time. SOMI SOMI @ CONVOY Parking is tight and it's small! It is however available for free and is shared with other businesses. Definitely be aware of how packed and busy it gets, luckily we got a spot within minutes of someone leaving. The line was pretty long when we got there on a Monday night at around 8:30 PM this place does close at around 10:30 PM so it's a great place to get some sweet treat! The line did go by pretty quickly and we ordered the upside down Ahboong, it was about $7, and you could choose their sortment of flavors from ice cream and filling to toppings. I decided to get the Matcha as well as the Nutella filling inside. there are not really many seatings in this place. It's more of like a high bar and you kind of just stand there while you eat. It's also opened to another store next-door. I believe that's like a restaurant, but you can clearly walk-through if you'd like to, as well as seating outside. we got our order pretty quickly. We just went on the end of the place and they pretty much just asked you like what toppings you'd like things like that. The girl that was helping us wasn't really nice. She was kind of just putting everything on there, and I asked if they also had strawberries cause I remember seeing it online on the menu which it was not distributed at all anywhere on the menu in person or also when we got to the topping station so she kind of just looked at me and was like yeah sure there in an annoyed way. I also needed napkins and noticed they ran out of napkins on the side of the counter and I asked her for any more napkins and she just pointed to me on the other side. Didn't bother to refill or say anything. she was not polite and it felt like we were kind of being rushed with our toppings and also just the service itself was not the best and that is what lost the star for me. however, the ambiance was great. It was very bright. All the tables were very dirty outside and inside, so I did not see any of the staff cleaning up or wiping the table so I definitely think that could be changed, especially since there are many guests coming in and out. I have never seen any coffee or chocolate flavor. They do have Oreo flavor.

Yes there is dairy free options. All of the soft serve is dairy free.

There is matcha, sesame, milk, and ube. They have swirls as well, and the combination depends on the week.
