This is a cute breakfast and dessert cafe that's actually open till midnight (or later on the weekends). The decor and setting is cute and quirky, including cow sculptures hanging upside down from the ceiling. There were only a couple other visitors when we arrived, as it was near opening time. Our dishes took a whopping 35 minutes to be ready, and service was not very friendly nor helpful. Luckily, the music playing through the speakers added a nice vibe to the place, songs like Our House by Madness and Can't Fight This Feeling. We ordered the brunch pizza (with eggs cooked overeasy) and the breakfast flatbread which looked almost identical when served, as well as an iced mocha. The quality of the pizza was pretty average, and the eggs were slightly overcooked. The drink was really good, made fresh, with a smooth taste and a nice sweetness to it, the plastic cup coated in chocolate sauce. It tasted more like chocolate milk with a hint of coffee, which I personally enjoyed. They typically serve gelato here, but it would not be ready till almost two hours after opening time. So no milkshakes or cold desserts were available in the morning this past Sunday (no worries, Ghirardelli is just a block away). I appreciate the variety of menu items offered here. But they really should communicate online that their gelato's not ready till two hours into the day. If there's one thing that irks me about an establishment, it's failure to communicate appropriately. A good spot for a late night sweet treat. One the outside, it has dark ambiance but inside, light and bright. At the entrance, there is an upside down cow and another towards the end. There is a menu, where along with ice cream/candy, they have breakfast items and coffee. At the front, there is the ice cream parlor and next to it, the candy! There are many options, it can be hard to decide. I was mainly interested in the ice cream. There is many unique flavors. I asked the server which flavors were the most popular. She said Oreo and pomegranate. I was leaning towards chocolate but decided on the Oreo. There are three sizes: small, medium, large. Small is $6. The Oreo tastes exactly how you would expect. There are high end tables to sit at and enjoy your dessert. I came again once more in the day time. The sever that day seemed annoyed and had rolled his eyes when I asked if I can try flavors. I tasted the peanut butter and chocolate hazelnut. Both were very good and I ended up getting the chocolate hazelnut. Popped in here on a busy Friday night to grab some gelato. I tried some flavors and we settled on dark chocolate (very good, lovely bitter and sweet combo), sea salt caramel (good), and Oreo cookie (couldn't taste the Oreo). Gaslamp is my Wife's favorite hangout spot, and one of her quick stops to bring us for dessert is here in Chocolate SD. We've been here a lot, but we've never had a chance to review this place until now. This Chocolate SD closes late like MIDNIGHT, I think on weekends at 1 . am, so this is also a plus why we like stopping here when we are in Gaslamp. I had their Banana & Nuttela Crepe, while my Wife and Son shared with Strawberry & Chocolate both were well made with lots of chocolate and fruits in it, really a good one, i also had their ice cream but that was gone so quick before i remembered taking a picture of it, they have lots of selections of their ice creme here and they are pretty good. I ordered the Oreo cheesecake, and it didn't taste like cheesecake at all -- it lacked that rich, creamy cheese flavor you expect. The coffee was weak and totally forgettable. Being very generous and giving one star. Long story short around 9:15 PM on Monday. We find this place on Google Maps and it says it's open till midnight. With a puzzle look on my friend's face she asked worker what time do they close? She says 10 o'clock when my friend says on your webpage it says you close at 12 she says no we don't very rudely although we really wanted to try this place. This is hands down my favorite spot in the Gaslamp. I spend every Sunday morning here on 5th Avenue because the people watching is unmatched and it's the perfect little hub for catching up on my reading. They have a few options such as lava cake, cheese cake, apple pie, and red velvet. We only ordered the lava cake which came with a scoop of vanilla gelato. Bathroom was surprisingly nice. The floor looked like river pebbles coated in epoxy, so it was super cool. Only 1 stall and I think no mirror tho. I don't know what I got. Are these truffles? Are these bon bons? They're good. They're $1.95 each. I'm not mad. It was a good treat. And the flavors were classic and some were non basic. I would try more of these. They were quite good but the added toppings and sauces that I didn't ask for would've been better without. I also has the caramel cheesecake and mascarpone cheesecake which were both excellent. This is a cute little creamery in the heart of the Gaslamp quarter. It is open late and they have a wide selection of delicious Gelato, crepes, and other baked goods. There is metered parking on the street out front of the shop. That street, However, is closed on certain days of the week though at night. There are also some commercial garages and lots available to park that are nearby, but they are a bit pricey. They have some seating indoors that is available for you to sit and eat. There is also some seating available in front of the shop on the sidewalk and in a special area built out to the street. I was in a hurry so I just got my treat to go. They had some hip-hop music playing in the background as I was deliberating on which ice cream to choose. They guy working the shop was nice. I do not know if you are able to sample the ice cream or not. I did not ask. I just jumped right in. They have 2 freezers full of frozen deliciousness. I opted to get a medium cup which allowed me to get 2 flavors. You only get one flavor with a small and three with a large. I got the pomegranate and the coconut. I made it back to the hotel with my ice cream in one piece. It was delicious and fresh. Very smooth. My favorite was the coconut. My boyfriend was innocently sitting at one of the tables at this place and his chair suddenly snapped. we all thought maybe he just fell over but we noticed that one of the chair legs snapped! We told the worker and he just nodded not acknowledging anything about the fall. I thought he would say something but no. The dark chocolate was too sweet, and too rich in my opinion. The texture was pretty thick. It tasted like fudge instead of gelato. The tiramisu tasted perfect that the texture was not runny, and it was not overly sweet. However, it lacked of the taste of coffee. Line was long and service was fast.
