This was a nice stop on a walk when we needed something to drink a little snack. The shop is very spacious and has several options for pastries and breads. Service was helpful.

Nice little coffee shop in the corner. Not a lot of seating inside but quite a bit of seating outside. I had the Spanish Latte which was not too sweet but sweet enough. The staff was friendly. Good spot for a quick cup of coffee. Can't say I would seek out this spot specifically. But if I were in the area and wanted a latte, I'd stop back in.

Nice small quiet cafe. Good coffee, comfy atmosphere, welcome employees. I loved the Mexican latte

Custom bagel order, Brickyard Breakfast Burrito - good but very expensive

I really wanted to fall in love with this place. I had walked by several times but they were closed for the day every time (they close relatively early - I think 12 PM). It looks so charming and adorable on the outside ... the inside, however, is very underwhelming. Additionally, it is shockingly expensive. I don't know if I have ever experienced such sticker shock before. I fully understand and acknowledge rent and cost of living generally is ridiculously expensive in downtown San Diego, however I'd expect a bit more for how much I paid for a bagel. My friend was visiting from out of town and I was so excited to finally visit this shop and hopefully show him a good experience. Unfortunately I was instead super embarrassed and felt so bad he paid so much for a pretty below-average experience. The food wasn't bad, but it was hard to stomach the pricing and the below average interior. I really really do want this place to succeed though - I hope they can elevate the experience to somehow justify their price points. Two stars because the person who took our order was really nice and because I do see the potential. I'm rooting for you guys!!

$12 for a specialty bagel and two coffees around the corner not the Brickyard!

Well, I got to walk with my feet because absolutely diabolical. They are charging $13 for a bagel and who knows how much for a coffee. When I expressed how much the prices went up the woman serving just said it's 2025 and you are downtown. We are nowhere close to downtown it is by a Trolley stop. Here is a picture of nobody there. So I guess lots of people have the same idea. Go to Bruegger's around the corner for $13. You can get two big cups of coffee and a specialty bagel.

Very cute coffee shop in San Diego. Adjacent to trolley light rail stations, its location is impeccable for foot traffic. Older rustic building is cute and clean! Happy staff provides good service and are genuinely nice. I came for a coffee, and they closed shortly thereafter but allowed me to finish my drink. Vanilla oat milk latte was really good! The only limitation is little bit smaller menu, but what they do offer is pretty darn good... Very clean restroom is an important point too...

Stopped by here on my walk today to try it out. I walk by all the time but they just do breakfast hours so I usually miss them. Cute little space inside. I only got an oatmilk latte. It was alright, service was great but the coffee was just okay especially for the price.

Bagel Melt & iced brown sugar latte

Super cozy chill vibes at this place feels like it takes you back into the early 2000's music is always a vibe and food/coffee is delish

What a lovely cafe! Love the brick and ambiance. I've walked past this place many times and now that I've stopped in, I'll be back. They have pastries and their coffee is delicious. I ordered the Mexican mocha but they were out of it and it was only 8am! She said it's their popular drink. So I ordered the latte which was really good. Can't imagine what the Mexican mocha would be like. This cute little place has been painted many times. I bought one for my place.

Cold brew

I walked into a peaceful ambiance and endearing workers. In the cool pocket of San Diego by the trolley station.

I stopped in for morning coffee and to get some work done. The coffee was fine. I had the oatmeal, which was a giant bowl of oats with plenty of fresh fruit. The oatmeal did not have enough hot water. They had a wifi password posted, but I could not see the guess network to attach. There were inside tables, and a brick patio area to sit outside. The service was inattentative.

We stopped by at around 8:20am today and there were only a few people in line. Service was welcoming and kind! They had an assortment of baked goods + empanadas as well as a great matcha/coffee menu. There's lots of seating for anyone who wants to hangout with friends or study. So awesome to see that they serve Nami (aashleyk's matcha brand). I ordered a chicken empanada, pan de elote, & an iced matcha cloud (less sweet & oat milk). Everything was absolutely DELISH. I'm pretty picky about my matcha, especially when it's in an Einspanner form. I loved the contrast between the sweet/salty cloud and the matcha itself! This place has their ratios down perfectly. Can't wait to come back (probably tomorrow)! 11/10.

Most other coffee shops charge $1.00 or more now, so that was a really nice surprise. They also gave me a stamp card for future visits, which I'll definitely be using. Will absolutely be back!

Parking is a bit of a pain bit of you are in waking distance or come early enough it shouldn't be an issue. Sometimes they run out of items if you come later in the day. They have a special Bagel of the month, so make sure to ask what it is. They have several bagel flavors, and different flavor cream cheese spreads. I love the habanero bagel, it's one of my favorites, but just be warned it is very hot. Definitely don't eat it without something cold to drink. They also have a breakfast sandwich called the San Diego which is a favorite of several people I know. You chose the bagel you want it with and they add fried eggs, bacon, cheese and aioli. I highly reccomend it. I've not had a lot of their deinis, but i did order the cinna-bee which has honey, cinnamon, espresso and milk. I thought it was good and would order it again. Definitely check them out and try some of their bagels, or perhaps one of their sandwiches.

Finally got to try this cute Japanese cafe we saw on TikTok, and it did not disappoint!…read more Service: [5/5] The two girls who helped us were so sweet and made the whole experience. We were seated at the bar, which ended up being such a vibe--we got to chat with the girl behind the bar and watch her make lattes and desserts right in front of us. That kind of interaction really sets this place apart. Price: [4.5/5] It's on the pricier side, but honestly it feels fair given the quality of food you're getting. You can taste where your money is going. Food/Drinks: [5/5] Matcha Latte -- We shared one, extra sweet at my request, and it was perfect. Exactly what I was hoping for. Chef Soichi's Karaage -- We had this as an appetizer and my boyfriend made a point to say this is the closest he's had to traditional Japanese karaage. High praise from someone who's passionate about his Japanese culture. Hayashi Omurice -- This is their most popular dish and it's easy to see why. The demi-glaze has a really unique flavor that ties the whole dish together beautifully. This was my pick and I'd order it again without hesitation. Guratan -- My boyfriend's order, and it was incredibly creamy and delicious. We were both too stuffed for dessert by the end, which says a lot about the portion sizes. Ambience: [5/5] The restaurant is small, but honestly that's part of what makes it so charming. Pink everywhere with wooden accents and cherry blossoms throughout (very fitting)--it's cozy, homey, and just really well put together. The intimate size adds to the appeal rather than taking away from it. Overall Experience: [5/5] Hatsuzakara was such a wonderful first experience. Yes, we waited about 30 minutes to be seated arriving at 7:30 on a Friday night but for a waitlist-only spot this small, that's actually a pretty reasonable wait by San Diego standards. The food, the atmosphere, and the staff more than made up for it. Already looking forward to coming back to try the curry and work through their dessert menu.

I feel like everything looked really good, so it was hard to decide what to order. The dishes have small portion size despite the price. I think this kinda helps in that you have room to eat dessert! The brown sugar Okinawa tea was good but the after taste of the sugar was not good. They kept the tea pot warm, and they served oat milk on the side. Karaage had too much chicken skin for my preference. Guratan was penne pasta and not macaroni as specified in the menu. Yakisoba could have used more chicken. Omurice had the more flavor and the egg was really good. I want to try naporitan next time because of the tomato based sauce. Of the desserts I tried, the parfait was most enjoyable because of the fruit with ice cream. The mushi pudding was good; it was the thick and "hard" type of flan. I want to try kakigori next time because I saw their shaved ice machine was legit. Parking - free street parking only. Be prepared to walk up/downhill. Credit card/apple pay accepted Bathroom is only one room in the back. THE SEAT IS WARM. This was a nice gem to find in this part of town.
