If you're lucky enough to wander here during a weekend sale such as around Memorial Day, DON'T PASS IT BY! I made a beeline for the shoes in the back, and got a rare discount on a pair of Worishofer sandals. As well as 3 other pairs of shoes... They basically have an abbreviated selection of what's available across the street at DNA, except the stuff actually goes on sale! Prices on their cute clothes were pretty reasonable too - I would've looked if I hadn't cut myself off at the shoes! The perfectly bubbly sales chick totally validated my purchase decisions too, which was exactly what my credit card needed. read more

I seriously hate to be a negative Nancy but I went in here yesterday b/c I happen to work about 4 blocks away and geez the customer service is a zero. I work in customer service, so a nice welcome or even a glance would be nice and while I was looking at one of the racks of clothes I was startled by one of the employees who nearly pushed me out of the way to hang some clothes up. When I looked at her she didnt even blink. Anywho I went back to my job and told my co worker who said she had received some tude' as well so then I HAD to write a yelp review about it b/c that is really not cool. Besides those ladies, the clothing was pretty nice albeit a little over priced for some items. Unfortunately I walked out w/ nothing b/c I didnt really want to be in there anymore. My suggestion: Be more chipper! It doesnt hurt. read more

A small Smith Street boutique with a great selection of hip jeans, tees and sweaters as well as some okay shoes. The real draw here is that the person who choses the outfits in this place knows what the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill Brooklyn not-quite-Hipsters like to wear. Smith street isn't Bedford ave and the style reflects it, a more understated but certainly chilled out style. Anytime I'm running late and need an outfit STAT, I head here. I don't know exactly why this is, considering it's in the middle of super-trendy Smith Street, but the whole place has an oddly 'Bridge and Tunnel' vibe to it, maybe because of the shoppers who were there at the time, but also the very sweet and helpful salesgirls all have a very Jersey Mall Chick look. They layout and merchandising approach also remind me a lot of my teenage years hanging out at the mall. Especially the fitting room doors covered in patchwork denim. I, for one, fully approve of the un-trendy atmosphere, because I think it keeps the place honest. Prices are much more affordable than most of the other boutiques on Smith Street, and for largely the same sorts of items (the mallish vibe has nothing to do with the clothes, which are, as others have said, a slightly saner version of what the kids in Williamsburg are wearing this week). Even some of the brands are the same. I got a flirty little minidress for $40 which I know would have cost twice that, if not over $100, anywhere else in the neighborhood. I also love that they carry both clothes and shoes. The shoe selection is great, though I don't think they have a lot of stock. They didn't have my size in quite a few styles I liked (I wear an 8), most of which were not on the sale rack. Only two things keep me from awarding the coveted fifth star. Firstly, for some reason you can't buy clothes and shoes together -- they have two separate counters. Secondly, while the women's clothes are the perfect combination of what Brooklyn ladies are wearing right now, the men's clothes really are B&T - second rate Hollister and Abercrombie knockoffs. read more

As far as what is currently being offered in the same area this store is one of the more down to earth. While you can still find flirty cocktail dresses you can also pick up a north face parka while you are at it. Really what sold me is that they had idiot mittens for adults. I was pretty excited. This place does great jackets, hats, and shoes. The jeans, not so much. Got a killer Spiewak military-esque jacket here during the fall that I absolutely love. The designer Seven and Joe's jeans at the store though are a little too "skinny" and expensive for my liking though, and sadly, the Levis they offer are all in junior sizes. The tops are all a little too girly for my liking, but that's just me. I like a little more androgyny in my style for tops, I guess. In the back is a great little shoe section that is great to check out from time to time. Good selection of sneaks, converse, Toms, Asics, etc...and boots by Blowfish, Nine West, etc. If you have some extra dough to throw around, and are looking for some nice supplementary duds, this might be the place for you. read more

Have to say--I assumed that everything in here would be size two, so I never really do more than browse. But when I bothered to ask a very nice woman there if they carry size 12 jeans, she was surprisingly helpful and the answer was yes! Don't worry about the hip look--ends up the people are down to earth and the selection is more broad than you think. And my jeans looked fabulous on my sudden weekend get-away to Paris. This place was so much more than I thought it would be. They have an eclectic selection of high quality Male and Female clothes with some really trendy styles. They even have really cool onesies for toddlers! The apothecary section offers a wide range of off-beat, wholesome products from some interesting, some local, and some lesser known companies that I had never heard of before. The clerks are always friendly and very personable, offering assistance with styling, and sizing - checking their sister store on fifth for additional items if requested. I have always been happy with my purchases from them and I check their instagram feed often to see if they have any new styles, products, or promotions. Definitely recommended! read more

Shop with caution! This place isn't TERRIBLE, but they need to work on their customer service/organization. I knew exactly what I wanted when I went in, which was a pair of Frye boots. The sign out front said that all boots were 30% off, but the saleswoman informed me when I walked in that that sale didn't apply to Fryes, which were only discounted by 15%. Whatever, nice trick, at least she told me right away. I was still pretty much set on the boots and was happy with somewhat of a discount. The woman asked me if I was familiar with Fryes, and I said these would be my first pair but I know plenty about them and several people who own them. She continued to practically lecture me on their awesomeness anyway. Pushy! Lady, this will be the easiest sale ever for you. Just let me buy the damn things. As with other reviews, I happened to notice that the saleswoman was basically neglecting other customers because I happened to be trying on something expensive. All of the attention was kind of embarrassing and a little annoying and also unfair to the couple behind me who were trying on sneakers. My credit card was very slow going through. She said it might have been the computer but she would just wait and see. After maybe ten minutes of me awkwardly staring at some mary janes, she said it was unsuccessful. Again, embarrassing, and I knew that I had sufficient funds and then some for the purchase so I started to worry. She tried it again and another ten minutes and she said she got the same message, "unsuccessful." I pulled out a different card that had just enough for the purchase and after a few more minutes it went through (while I was on the phone with my bank). So happy, Frye boots, yay, and I figured it was just a computer error and I would get things straightened out with the bank when I got home. I ended up getting charged three times for the boots. The boots are awesome but not worth nearly seven hundred dollars, thanks. After trekking down there in the snow to tell her (the same woman was working), she said she needed to see my bank statements. I told her I didn't have a printer and asked if I could pull the statements up on the screen for her. She said no, I had to bring them in, and they were closing at "five or six." WOW!!! So I had to run around to my banks to get my statements printed out (which they charge you for) and correct THEIR mistake. She couldn't care less that this mistake was made; you would think she would have immediately pulled it up on the computer, looked for the store receipt or something. But no, just "we need the statement, we close at five or six." Anyway, I am still in the process of getting everything straightened out. If I have more problems I will be sure to come back and Yelp some more. If it works out, I will probably shop there again but as a last resort. I suppose it's worth it to shop here if you know what you want (and god forbid you'll need to return it) and they are having a good sale. But in the long run, I just wish I tried them on, said I didn't want them, and BlueFlyed that shiz. read more

i had a pretty bad experience here. i bought a pair of frye boots that were quite spendy. i asked about the return policy and their salesperson said "just bring them back in 14 days and we'll take them, no questions asked". i got home, wore them around, got a pretty bad blister and thought "not for me". the next day i brought the boots back and they would only return them for credit. so there i am, frustrated i can't get my money back but willing to make it work. i figure it's my own fault for not checking their return policy. so i pick out two pairs of jeans, the same woman who said i could only return the boots for store credit helping me, i find two pairs that fit, bring them to the counter with my "credit" when she tells me that the "credit" can only be applied for shoes and not clothing. big WTF. i've filed a complaint with amex as well as the bbb. if you buy something from there, make sure you really want it! otherwise you're screwed. hope this helps... read more

everytime i pass by something else, i have to go in. i simply must. generally, i make a beeline to the shoe section which is actually quite good. they have a good array of flats, sneaks, heels and other assorted trendy footwears. their prices aren't super for shoes, but they are pretty much what you would pay anywhere else for the same brands. the clothes are what i take issue with; for the most part, the goods are pretty cheesy, poorly-made frocks that you could find at one of those no-name joints on lower canal for a 5th of the price. you're better off heading to h&m or forever 21 for the same level of quality (or better) for less than they are charging. read more

The sign says they sell 'premium apparel and denim' here. Denim, certainly. Premium apparel...not really sure what that means, but they do sell some cool stuff at reasonable (US) prices. I managed to acquire two super-cool t-shirts here that fulfil my very specific t-shirt requirements (have to be funky colour and very unusual design) for around $50 for the pair. That represents decent business where I come from. If you're in the area, its a little shop that's worth checking out, but I wouldn't say its so special to go out of your way for. read more

This is one of my favorite clothing stores in the neighborhood! It is pretty affordable compared to other places and the staff is always nice and helpful without being too pushy. I've bought some great blouses and jackets here and always get compliments whenever I wear them. I also like their rewards program (spend $500 get $25).... Something else might as well be called "Something Else That Will Fall Apart". I shopped here back when I moved in and everything that I bought here ended up with holes in it after only a few wears. Perhaps I am just clumsy and get caught on nails when I wear there clothing, but I don't think that's it. I tried on a shirt at the store and it had a hole in it, I should have ran away right then. WARNING! This store is staffed by scammers! While walking home from the train I passed by this overlit, junky storefront on Smith St. Lured by the Tom's shoes display and against my better judgement (this place looks like one of those pop-up, fly-by-night joints that sells goods which fell off the back of a truck) I purchased a pair as a gift for my husband. As I was paying, the saleslady told me she was unable to print a gift receipt. Ended up they were the wrong size, and so he took them to the store to exchange for the same product, right size. Not a cash refund, not store credit, just an exchange. He explained he didn't have the receipt, as they were a gift and the gift giver was denied a gift receipt. The two salesgirls in the store looked at each other and said, "Did you do that? No? No. I didn't do that. That wasn't us." He said it would have been comical if they hadn't been so downright mean.Then, just to prove their almighty retail clerk power, they pointed out that the price was missing from the box and that automatically disqualified him from any further assistance whatsoever. After calming him down, I called the store and requested the manager, explaining our situation. The extremely unhelpful, aggressive girl told me she was manager in addition to the salesperson who sold me the shoes and insisted she "always" gives receipts and that I must be lying. I reminded her that if she recalled the transaction then she must remember that I was a paying customer who only wanted to EXCHANGE the product. She barely let me finish my sentence, accusing me of being a liar and an apparent price tag thief, and reiterated the store's ridiculous "the customer is always wrong" policy. A disputed credit card charge and a letter to the Better Business Bureau are really not worth risking a transaction at this shady place. I don't know what kind of scam they run out of this joint, but I would stay far away. Besides the Tom's shoes, their selection consists of pleather rejects from 2001 and you could find more helpful customer service at the Department of Motor Vehicles. read more

I've enjoyed this shop since its early years in Park Slope and Cobble Hill. They carry perfect combination of trendy, fashionable and edgy. I've found it the perfect shop that doesn't make me think too hard about fashion while keeping my wardrobe up to date. I've purchased clothing for myself, friends, family, children and babies for years and do not find myself refreshing my wardrobe at too many other places. Definitely more understated than blatant hipster style (which is quickly growing annoying), Something Else offers something for the hipster at heart who doesn't want to declare it to the world in a pretentious manner.
