Well curated selection of stylish, but practical clothes. Not cluttered with "show" designer pieces that no one actually wants to wear.

The café appears to have a very small food selection as well but I didn't order from it so don't take my word for it. The space doubles as a design gallery, with art pieces, home decor, etc. for sale. The emphasis on design is apparent before you even step inside. An old-time pushcart propping up a "Welcome" sign catches your eye from the street so you know you're in the right place, which was helpful because the shop is a bit off the beaten path (although not at all hard to find if armed with the address). The site seems to have been chosen specifically for its industrial feel, but there is no trace of coldness from what used to be a factory (and before that, about 100 years ago, a horse stable) The space has a kind of country farmhouse feel to it, with decorative scarves hanging from the brick walls and sponge-painted planks of wood decorating the front-of-house coffee bar. I talked to the manager (Fumio Tashiro, a very hospitable man), who said the café will change ownership in July, and an entirely new drink menu will be rolled out. He mentioned he will still be here, and I plan to come back then and make sure things haven't changed too much, as I really like it the way it is now!

I am updating this review as I noticed some local Yelpers complaining about this business'…read more"abrasive" customer service experience. This is a locally owned business with hard working values! I really didn't want the "Karen" and " Ken" reviews who have no credible Yelp review history to ruin the reputation of a great establishment!. But don't take my word for it, come here and see for yourself! Here is my original review and I still stand by it! If you're looking for a "good old neighborhood" store that's been around for years with a little "good old neighborhood" attitude and fully equipped with Brooklyn accent, then come to JMD Square Stores. "You'll feel right at home"! This place brags of old history and memories. I remember coming to this place when I was like 6 years old. Even back then, in the 1980's they sold Puma sneakers, Converse, Wrangler jeans, Le Tigre polo shirts and Hanes t-shirts that would satisfy all your neighborhood clothing needs. Every time I come back home to see my Ma, I make it a point to stop by Brooklyn and see what I can get at Square Stores. They fortunately renovated the store back in the 1990s creating bigger glass window displays showing off their latest sales and styles. They still sell the good old Dickies brand still available in the Mailman Blue, UPS Brown and NY Sanitation Green. I like the fact that Square Stores sticks to their roots but also follows the times and carry brands like Levi's jeans, Timberland boots and always the sporty urban Carhartt clothing line. Sadly, I live in Los Angeles now but it's always a trip to memory lane when I'm back here! Howie is the owner whom I remember way back when his dad ran the store. He's always a familiar face and is obviously from the neighborhood. He's got the good natured attitude and accent to boot!. He's got the good natured attitude and accent to boot!. I can see why some clients may feel he's rough around the edges but trust me, he's a real "teddy bear" inside. So make it a point to support your local business and capture some Brooklyn culture. "Wha?, you got a problem with dat!?" See you here!

There's a tea area on the side where you can enjoy some tea while looking at the shop. The smoke shop sign caught my eye but you'd never think it was by going in. I love it that it is so discrete! What an original place. I knew the owner was a genuine, caring guy the moment we came in. He was so chill, and naturally started to ask about us, getting to know his customers. He offered samples to try to get the feel of the other products he had. From edibles to flowers, he had such a variety. I already knew what I was looking for, but he offered for us to try a gummy from another company and I just might go back to buy it lol! Thank you Achmed for the hospitality and the food recommendations. I really hope what you have going goes far in life! And his wife is a baker and makes incredible cakes, Cherished Arrangements.
