And The Shape of Lies is my favorite of them all! The Shape of Lies only cares and sells handmade pieces by local artists. You can even see some of them creating these works of art in the back. Peggy the owner is always helpful and full of stories to share about each piece and the artists who made it. It's one of my go to places for special gifts or on those days when I want something special for my self. From modern wood watches to simple and classic chains you can't help but want to buy everything in here.

My husband has bought me jewelry from Catbird in the past, so I was very pleasantly surprised…read morepassing by this storefront unexpectedly! I knew I had to wait until they opened to check things out in person, and luckily they are very punctual. A surprising amount of people came in at opening - I guess it's a very popular store/location! We were first window shopping around, and it was initially hard to get a staff to help answer a few questions about pieces we were interested in. Finally we got someone's attention and they actually pulled out the entire collection for us to see and ask to try on. It wasn't on display, but as part of the box of pieces that were for sale, I found an adorable ring and knew I had to get it. Unfortunately they had sold out of my size - at the time, my fingers must've been extremely swollen from the heat because my size was way bigger than I remembered it to be. The staff didn't mention anything like that to be wary of, but I felt like they would have known. I left the shop without buying anything but did note the ring I wanted and got on the waitlist online. Eventually they came back in stock, so I'm glad I did go to the storefront to see it in person!

I purchased two name rings late in 2025, I had been a customer at the original location since they opened in 2005 when I was in college! I've bought so many rings from them, many by Wwake but also very nice ones by their in house line. A lot of personalized ones over the years with sentimental value for me. I think quality and production must be way down and I'm worried maybe these rings I have from last year may not even be actual gold. Maybe it's a fault in the design? I put one on and almost cut myself- it had split!!! I was so shocked and reached out to them immediately since this hasn't happened in 20+ years as a loyal customer who recommended their brand, bought gifts for family, etc. I emailed customer service and they said it's under warranty and can be fixed. I felt like that would be okay until I looked at my other name ring, purchased on the same date. I can see a split forming but not complete in the same exact location as the other one!!!!! I don't want a "fix" or replacement anymore unless it's another brand. I'd like my money back, I've never ever had real jewelry break on its own like this and I take very good care of these treasured objects. I can see these will break again and again :( If they can actually give good customer service I'll return as a customer to still buy trusted brands like Wwake but would never buy from their line ever again and can see numerous recent Reddit posts describing Catbird line jewelry falling apart! Sticking to Kathryn Bentley and other cool designers who take more pride in their work. Buyer beware :/

The decor was simple but beautiful as well and made it a nice place to be shopping. The lady working the shop was so nice and extremely accommodating she also emailed my friend after our visit thanking her for her business and offering future help in buying. I ended up getting my mom these small gold hoops(which she loved); the quality is very good and they are priced at a fair point for what they are(not cheap but not expensive). I will check in over time with how they wear. Great addition to smith st!

They had a Black Friday sale so I took advantage of a gift card that I had for over a year. I prefer to buy jewelry IRL since photos don't always represent the size accurately. I already own the Parker layering necklaces and wanted to get some cute rings to go with it. They have real solid gold costume jewelry. The costume jewelry is excellent quality. There were 3 sales clerks when I arrived and I wasn't sure exactly which one to deal with but we figured it out. I knew exactly what I wanted to see since I already researched it online. The clerk was pleasant and polite. She complimented me numerous times on my selections and how I was stacking my rings. She also made some small talk about the rest of my day. Each item was packed into individual clothed drawstring bags and presented in a paper bag with tissue paper. Nice store, nice staff, excellent product. Check this place out if you need any fine or costume jewelry that is fashionable.

Not only did my husband and I buy our wedding bands there (which were expertly sized and we received them much earlier than expected), but they've also done super quick repairs on rings I bought at other stores at incredibly reasonable prices. It's actually 2 storefronts straddling the barber shop, and as a previous reviewer said, has been there since 1985, which I love. The owner was super nice and helpful in my quest for party decor, and gave me mini-tours of each storefront so I could decide what I needed. Aesthetically, it's overwhelming and some of what they sell looks like it's been there awhile. Items literally tower over you to the ceiling, and the owner said they do a lot of online retail to keep the storefront open. However, if you can navigate the unusual hours, their personal attention keeps you from wading through paper products feeling lost, and their prices, whilst not discount, are reasonable. Favorite part of my visit was as I was leaving and saw several children waiting, as school had just let out, for the owner to open the storefront side that sells candy. For a place I thought was always closed, Mime's is definitely part of the neighborhood.
