A local treasure. Always stop by when I am in the neighborhood to see what's new. Buy a ton of my gifts there, and have also bought two floor lamps, home decor, candles, and our marble coffee table (the oval nesting one). All great quality and very chic. The owners (a married couple) are help but not pushy and will bend over backwards for you, eg when a small piece of one of my floor lamps was bent, the man came over to my home to straighten it. Okay - so I have yet to make a purchase here, but I know I will in the future because the store is SO cute. I was out looking for desks and they had a couple of really lovely ones that unfortunately were on the high end of my price range, and though I kind of loved one and wanted to make it work, I ultimately decided to go a little lower on the price. With that said - the store is FULL of cute furniture and decor I'll definitely go back for. They had this gorgeous organizer piece hanging on the wall I'd love to add to my place (but have no wall room for, classic NY), and tons of adorable and kitschy coasters, puzzles, calendars, knick knacks, and more. We placed an order for some chairs just before the city had shut down due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Although the store had been shuttered for some time, the owner Robert was incredible about staying in touch and checking on the delivery for us. Long story short, he went WAY above and beyond and we received our chairs yesterday due entirely to his amazing customer service. They are still helping customers send gifts and purchase items for their homes even though they're physically closed. They can offer 1-on-1 phone concierge service, purchasing through their website and/or Instagram, and facilitating sales through email. There's little I enjoy more than giving someone a gift that is unique and surprising and special. Well, ok, in the interests of full disclosure, I probably enjoy receiving such a gift at least as much, but I digress... whether your pleasure is shopping for others or yourself, this is an exceptional place to do so. Sterling Place features a broad assortment of items across various categories - bar and glassware, kitchen, jewelry, gardening... they even have a few unique games for kids and a smattering of hand-crafted furniture. Their items are in the small batch/independent/local category, yet are incredibly elegant and lovely. This isn't some sort of mockable hipster artisanal Brooklyn repurposed junk. It simply feels like being in an elegant shop that just happens to feature unique, non-mass produced items of both new and vintage varities. The staff is lovely and unobtrusive - help when you ask, but let you browse leisurely until so. I have bought so many gifts for friends and family here to great acclaim - a mirror made from an old brick press for my construction-worker stepfather, vintage beer glasses and some hand-made jewelry for my wife, all sorts of golf/fishing ephemera for my dad... even a pair cuff links made with a game-used baseball for myself (I mean, if others won't get you that special gift.... ) Sterling Place's gifts are so good, they'll make you look like you care. This shop is stocked with a wide range of interesting, quirky, and elegant items, well-priced and certainly the work of a discerning eye. Sadly, however, they do seem to have trouble finding good sales help lately and the last time I shopped there was probably the last time I will ever shop there: the very attractive young lady working there seems to have better things to do than ring up my pile of purchases, or say three words to me, or meet my eye, or .... I was tempted to ask if I should return at a more convenient time (there were no other customers in the shop, she was polishing a bench) but I think I'll just .... not return, since it was so excruciating for her. A shame, really, because I've shopped here for years, but it was a really bizarrely rude encounter and I can get those for free elsewhere. read more

This is a great store. They have a nice assortment of vintage, repurposed, antique and just generally interesting and beautiful furniture/housewares. It's mostly pretty high-end stuff, so the prices aren't for the faint of heart, but you get what you pay for here. My wife and I found a great antique/gothic coat rack with these awesome weathered metal hooks, as well as a neat wine rack constructed from pieces of an actual wine barrel. Both look great in our apt and we consistently get compliments on both. The store just generally has tons of cool stuff and you'll probably want a lot of it, though you'll also probably walk out empty-handed most times. This is ok though, because the inventory does change and you won't leave discouraged, unwilling to try again. If you're anything like me, you'll probably pop in intermittently, or at least look in the window to make sure that railroad cart turned coffee table that you can't afford is still there. i suffer from bull in a china shop syndrome, so i twisted around the offerings gingerly, and paused in front of the antique wares encased protectively under the glass. it was in this exact spot, that i found the perfect gift for c. (hopefully) they sell a nice variety of gifts and rather expensive stocking stuffers. (those park slope rents are high) it reminded me a bit too much though of restoration hardware sans the furniture, but hey, that's no mortal crime. they were friendly and helpful and the fragile wares remained unscathed by my blundering clumsiness. p.s. they sell HAMMONDS candy canes! read more

Love Sterling Place. It's my go-to place for cool gifts. Plus, even last minute runs down there in an emergency have never failed to have me leaving with mission succeeded and never paying more than I wanted to. Plus, we've bought several pieces of furniture (dressers, bookcases, a wall hutch (some at the Atlantic Ave location)) and not only loved them when we saw them but thought they were very reasonably priced. I love the repurposed things they usually have made from industrial printing drawers or photographer's tables or etc. Always great looking and sturdy, never cheesy or of dubious build. The owners are great and really care about what they're doing, and I'm happy to see the new 7th Ave store open and doing well, it seems. I can honestly say that if I'm in the neighborhood when getting a gift comes up I just go straight there and that's that. read more

Sterling Place is my go-to for housewarming, Christmas and birthday presents. This is not the kind of place that I would come to for furniture but they have a lot of lovely home accents that make for great gifts. I particularly like their selection of wine glasses, coasters, tumblers and decorative bowls. And they always do a nice job of wrapping gifts too which makes it that much more worthwhile. AMAZING selection of things you never knew you needed and desperately want. I had been struggling to find a thank you gift and Sterling Place was the perfect place to go. They have fun little items (wrapping paper, books, candles, cufflinks) to the more substantial (antique file cabinets, etc.).
