Really am a fan of this shop. I went in looking for something to wear to my mother's funeral. I didn't say anything at all but the women working were super helpful and very honest about fit. It was also the first time buying clothes after gaining a lot of weight. It was a really helpful experience. Because of this I paid more than I normally would for a dress of the quality (the jumpsuit I bought was high quality though!) because the experience was something I didn't even know I needed in that moment. Ahhhh God help me, I want everything in this store. Seriously, one of the best edited selections I've ever seen. Beautiful things, flattering things, affordable things, magical things, wearable, classic, one-of-a-kind things. I walked in during their big sale before the Spring merchandise starts coming in, and scored a gorgeous velvet dress with lace detailing for $70! As someone who also has owned his own boutiques I can say that there mark-up is very fair, their selection is very well executed and the staff is that perfect combo of best friends meets afficianado. There are two clothing stores with window displays that I walk past regularly in Cobble Hill. One has horrible dresses on display, and one has really cute smart-girl clothing for sale. This is that store. C. and I stepped in today to see how much one of the window dresses cost. It was on sale 75%. 75%! That meant it cost just $60. She tried it on, and it fit great. All the clothes are classy and have fine lines, and the shopgirls are cute and nerdy, too. One seemed torn right out of a Woody Allen movie. And with sales between 30-75% off, you can't go wrong. At normal price, the clothes would seem expensive, but this was a bargain, for sure! read more

I've lived in the neighborhood for about 4 years and had bought several items here - a great dress to wear to a wedding in Paris, my favorite pair of skinny corduroys, a few blouses, and a fabulous little black dress that worked for so many different occasions. They had an amazing selection and I was always extremely impressed with the variety. There was always something I could use, whether formal or casual. However, when I walked into this store last week, looking for a dress to wear to a wedding, I was disappointed to find that they've trimmed their clothing selection down, gotten rid of some racks, and much less is available. There were more shoes, but there def wasn't the same variety of apparel that I had found in the past. I definitely wasn't able to find anything wearable to a wedding. OH. MY. GOD. Perfection perfection. All their clothing is "affordable" (i.e. almost all shirts/blouses under $200), but WELL CURATED and gorgeous. The selection is so magnificent that I actually gasped with shock when I saw a tanktop I could actually afford, because of my immediate presumption of how prices would be from the quality/design. You know this is quality when that happens. Update: So I came back and here are the price breakdowns: Tops: Average $150 Dresses: Average $390 Still pricey, but if you have the cash to burn at that moment, the selection is well curated enough that you can walk blindly through the store, randomly grab, and come out golden. I've never shopped for anyone at Dear Fieldbinder, but I used to live down the street and would frequently find myself pausing to admire the fantastic window displays they put together and rotate on a regular basis. Nobody in New York can touch D.F.'s understated elegance here. And I don't even care about fashion! This sweet collection is on my running route home, but as I am all hot & sweaty by the time I get here, I usually just break my neck and/or trip on someone's dog trying to get a look at the window display, which is always fabulous. So yesterday I finally was walking by in normal shoes and clothes and had an upcoming business event burning a hole in the back of my mind, as I had no wardrobe staple to count on wearing for it. Stepped into Dear Fieldbinder and lo and behold, the perfect dress: professional but not business-y, shapely but not clingy, unusual but understated, eye-catching but not attention-grabbing, ON SALE FOR $47, and still available in a normal size (M). I nearly fell over. Sold. Lovely collection, friendly and helpful staff. My favorite Brooklyn Boutique! If I wander in scruffy from a gym work out I'm treated just the same as if I was all dolled up. Love the friendly guys and gals working here! The buyer (owner?) has a unique point of view - which I thoroughly enjoy. If you purchase an item you can wear it for years to come - instead of some other high end boutiques that border on the ridiculous (which might look great this season, but will be useless the next.) Don't forget to peak around and have a good look at the shoes! Excellent. Beyond words. Nicest salesladies - so helpful and sweet - I was never nervous or embarrassed about asking for the next size up. And the next size. And...well you get the picture. In fact, I wasn't nervous about asking for anything. I felt like I could ooh and aah over a top with the saleslady and not feel pressured to now go try it on or buy it. Of course, I left short $500 but for that I got 2 pairs of jeans that FIT ME, 1 sweater dress that can be worn as a top with said pairs of jeans and a cardigan long blazer with the cutest pockets and longest sleeves. I may want to be buried in that thing, FYI. It's worth it. Go and splurge. Don't we deserve it? read more

She has a fabulous eye for clothing -- in every price range. When this shop was "Dear Fieldbinder" it had lovely things albeit at the high end. When the owner decided to change the shop over to more affordable things, I wondered how that would work. Amazingly the clothes are just as beautiful and crave-worthy, proving that a good eye and excellent taste prevail. I used to shop there occasionally. Now I go often. I miss Dear Fieldbinder. The clothing and shoes of the previous incarnation of this boutique by the same owners, were better quality and of more interesting designers. This was the place in my neighborhood where I would go to buy something great to wear to a wedding at a campground or a new years eve party, or when I was in the need of sandals that were really comfortable and looked 1940s. I have some wonderful staples from DF from over the past 6 years! The price point was more moderate to kind of expensive, but never over the top. I just can't shop here any longer, it's too sad, too boring in a trendy I can find this stuff anywhere kind of way... And the new name makes me cringe. read more

I was accused of shoplifting by the incredibly rude woman with white/blonde hair. She followed me down the street into another store and then proceeded to take pictures of me. I then went back into the store and opened my bags to show that I did not have any stolen merchandise. I would never steal and if I were to steal it would not be from this store that had low quality, off brand merchandise. I received no apology and I believe the rude and inarticulate women who stalked me still has a picture of me. I was embarrassed and shocked however; I know this happens to certain people all of the time and I consider myself lucky that this was the first time I was falsely accused of a crime. This woman should do her due diligence before she accuses someone of shop lifting and she should apologize when she has been proven wrong. read more

I love this store! I just wish I had more $$$ to spend on the wonderful merchandise, especially the dresses. I bought a pair of beautiful wedge espadrilles back in the summer. The salesperson was very helpful and attentive while I was trying on the shoes. The service helped seal the deal. The store also sells really great jewelry that you rarely see anywhere else. Also, the candles that they sell smell wonderful. Like I said, if you have $$$ to spare, you should check this place out. You won't be disappointed. read more

I live in the neighborhood, and Dear Fieldbinder is the one clothing store I make a point of stopping in and checking out regularly-- it has a wonderfully edited selection of clothes, with interesting, beautiful jewelry and accessories to boot! Prices are more reasonable than Bird, and if you have the self-control to wait for a sale (which seems to happen 2-3 times a year), you can get some great deals (silk Madison Marcus blazer 2/3 off the original price!). Sales staff are helpful and friendly, and not at all pushy-- they seem to own a lot of the pieces in the store, and are super helpful with fitting advice or just bouncing ideas off of.
