I took my 20 year old daughter here because she has crazy narrow feet. We ended up in Nordstrom's kids department. (Hey, we'll take saving 25% automatically from adult women's shoes). She got pretty woven patten leather flats. (Did I mention, she has her mother's grace--falls off all high heels!) We went to the food area for lunch. She had Chik-FIL-a while I tried a salad from Salads & Grains nextdoor. I got Strawberry Fields. It was so packed in, it made MEALS for 4 people! Awesome! When I was coming to town my Greyhound/Amtrak Station connection out of Toledo, Ohio was delay to Detroit and I meet a nice light skin African -American dude with dreadslock / rasta who was from Detroit, Michigan who was traveling back home , He told me this was one of the best malls to come visit in the Metropolitan Detroit area , And let me tell you he sure wasn't lying, I took a lyft or uber from my hotel room Red roof inn & suites Detroit -Melvindale /Dearbornto to this beautiful mall . This mall right here is the best .....this mall have : Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy's, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom Department stores and this mall have all the high end boutiques from : Christian Louboutin ( Red Bottoms ) , Jimmy Choo , 2 Louis Vuitton stores ( one inside Saks and the other Independent in the boutiques inside the mall), Dior , Balenciaga , Gucci ,Burberry , Givenchy (inside Saks), Chanel -Garments/Apparell (inside Saks ),Chanel fragrance -glasses boutique store , Alexander McQueen , Hermes , MCM , Moncler , Lactose ,Banana Republic , Canada Goose , GAP, Old Navy, Athleta , Hollister , American Eagle Outfitters ,Golden goose ,Forever 21, Nike , Adidas , Abercrombie & Fitch , J.CREW , Zara , etc. high end boutiques .....there two Starbucks café' inside the mall ( I like the one inside Macy's department store , that my personal opinion, the sales associate where friendly to me in there ..... The security guard of this mall was very nice , And the gentlemen that let me charged my Electronics device in the Apple store , Much love to him , If I'm ever in the Detroit metropolitan Area I'll definitely have "to do list" visiting this mall on my list !!!!! In December 2019, I visited my friends in Detroit. We were trying to decide when would be the best time for me to fly home. The day I wanted to fly back was a weekday and my friend needed to go to work, and at an early hour. They thought about where would be safe and entertaining for me to go until it was time to take me to the airport and they decided that Somerset Collection would be the best option. The mall itself would be open, but the stores would not be. I would be able to get wifi from the Starbucks and keep myself occupied that way until the stores opened. My friend drove into the parking structure of the mall and dropped me off at the door, watching me walk inside to make sure I was safe. I did go to Starbucks for a bit while I had a beverage, then I walked around the large mall and gazed at all the beautiful holiday decorations (some are posted here). The mall has 180 stores and is split into North and South sections with a skywalk to connect them. I ended up walking through the entire mall to see all the decorations. I wondered how much walking that was so I looked it up: Walking once around any level at North equals about 1/3 of a mile (1,610 feet). Walking once around any level at South equals a little over 1/4 mile (1,345 feet). Walking one way across the Skywalk equals over 1/8 of a mile (700 feet). So that was exciting that I got a good walk in that day. My friend met me for lunch, which we had at the food court and then we went to the airport. read more

This might be the nicest mall I've ever been to. Even the name suggests something more than just a mall. It's an impressive building. Huge and plenty of glass. There are two sides of the mall which are connected by very nice skywalks. One side I thought was the more high end and expensive stores and the other was not as much. Though that being said, overall this is a higher end mall I thought. I was staying nearby and had time to kill and this was the perfect place to do it. read more

The Somerset Collection is a big, old mall that is still putting on the Ritz. It is a very nice place.  They have plenty of great stores.  Some of the stores are beginning to come back to earth with their prices but there are plenty of fancy brands that keep up the illusion of grandeur.  It's big, as I mentioned, and it's possible to get lost in the place. In the larger open areas there is that 'whoosh!' feeling of being in a grand place but it wears off pretty quickly because of the geometry of the area.  Wherever you are standing and due to the use of so much glass it is possible to see nearly every other spot nearby without having to move around.  It's interesting at first but the thing is that it all looks the same - except if you are on the top floor.  The main difference there is that if you look up you can see the skylights. The food court is okay but it lacks the glamour that the rest of the facility is forcing on the attendee.  The staff that work here are generally in a good mood and helpful, if you can find them, and that's good. My most memorable experience here was arriving in the parking lot, shopping in the mall and then forgetting where I parked my car.  If you think the inner mall is filled with boring repetitious shapes then you haven't seen the parking garage.  It is poorly lit to boot.  There is a valet service here.  It does quite a bit to slow down normal traffic of vehicles entering and leaving that are not using the service.  There seems to be a wait most of the time.  The crosswalks are poorly lit and the valet service throws a wrench into just walking into the side door of the mall.  It is almost as if the pedestrians (who will shortly become shoppers the mall owners, I suppose, would hope) are a bother and a nuisance.  It's as if the architects forgot that people would be getting out of their cars to walk into the mall after they parked. They don't have a place for the kids to play either, so, this is not what I would consider a family friendly environment.  They have bargains sometimes.  If you are looking for fancy goods you will find something fancy here with a fancy price tag.  Check for quality, however! read more

I helped open up the retail at Somerset North in 1996. The mall took a big bite out of Birmingham and other areas and became a destination mall for the Great Lakes area. The first Nordstrom's for Michigan came here. Back in the day, there was a FAO Schwartz and a Sharper Image and The WTVS Store of Knowledge and Warner Bros and Disney opposite each other. Lots of cool stores that are no more...the 21st Century has not been kind to retail. Nowadays, most stores have online services that make going to the mall irrelevant. It's a collection - not a mall, my friends! For my fellow Southern California friends, it's like the fancy side is South Coast Plaza and the not-as-fancy-but-still-really-great is like Santa Anita Mall. So in essence, it's like a mash between South Coast & Santa Anita into ONE place in Troy, MI. For my IN friends, it's like Keystone - but with a better, more intuitive layout and even more high end stores. The first few times I went, I didn't even realize there was a SkyWalk to the fancy side. Pre-pandemic, I loved Somerset. Now, I've lost complete respect for them with how they are handling COVID protocols. They are not enforcing masking at all and they are not limiting the number of people in the building. I saw a security guard blow right by a group of people who were maskless. The food court is the worst. Since the dining area is closed, people are eating wherever they can find a space, many times within inches of each other, not wearing masks. I spent about 10 minutes there and walked out without buying anything, which is a shame because it seems that the stores themselves are trying hard to keep things safe. If I can find a way to report Somerset to the health department, I will. This is not a time to be reckless with public health. read more

Great place to spend the day. Beautiful sculptures, fountains and seasonally decorated throughout. I like there are 2 sides to the mall. One side is all moderately priced and your regular typical mall places. You then go over an indoor overpass and the second side is exclusively high end designer shops like Gucci, Brooks Brothers, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Sur La Tab and many more! Beautiful place to walk around and plenty of benches and coves to relax from shopping. Immaculately clean. Valet parking and uber pickup drop off too. Went to Neiman and Marcus with my boyfriend and this old white man seemed to take a particular interest in us although i do not know why because there were plenty of other teenagers in there just around our age but he chose to pick out the white lady with the black man and followed us around the store asking us multiple times if we needed something when i assured him that we were just looking around because they didnt have the shoes we wanted and to leave us alone he kept being creepy and weird i got so uncomfortable we just left. read more

Let me start by giving you a little history on this "mall". Back in my preteen days, growing up in Troy there was no Somerset Collection. We had Somerset Mall, which was located where the south side is and consisted of two anchor stores, one on each end: Saks Fifth Avenue and Bonwitt Teller. In between were all the high end shops such as Gucci (the rest I don't recall). My mom used to drop my friends and I off and we would hang out at the Hallmark store, the only shop in our league. For "real" shopping, we had Oakland Mall. The Somerset that is today is a vast improvement. Whatever you want you can find here, whether it's a Burberry scarf from the south side, or five bottles of hand soap for $10 from Bath and Body Works on the north side. I agree with Michael C.'s assessment of the clientele that shop here [in their Jimmy Choo heels], but it has always been that way per my childhood memories. And the name? Somerset "Collection"? Come out to D.C. and walk around our "malls". We've got Tyson's Galleria in VA and Mazze Gallerie and Chevy Chase Pavilion in the District. All very high-end, but that's the clientele they want. I love shopping at Somerset when I am home. With the economy the way it is right now, I never have a problem finding a parking space. They have everything you could want, except a bookstore. B&N and Borders, where are you? Women in heels read too! Two things I dislike: 1) Macy's over Marshall Fields; it's just not the same 2) This mall has made downtown Birmingham seem like a ghost town; the shops that once were have jumped ship and come to Somerset. And if you think Somerset is hoity -toity now, wait until they implode K-mart HQ and build The Pavilions of Troy. It's going to be 43 acres of more upscale shops, a theater, hotel, residential units and a public plaza for concerts and seasonal events, but that's another review yet to come in the future if Michigan's economy can support it. read more

My favorite shopping mall in this state, it's always clean, fresh and populated with good looking and happy shoppers! The good thing about this shopping center, is that it has different stores for different tastes, interests and budget! It dramatically ranges from small shops to high end designers.. it's kind of separated into two sides across the Big Beaver Road, where you can take the SkyLine cross bridge to go across from one side to another. Restaurants on location are great, again ranging from fast food shops in the food court and scattered around, to medium range restaurants ending with high-end classy diners. Highly recommended if you're in the city, go no where else! read more

Its a bit of a love and hate relationship with this mall. I LOVE it because its both a proper and a posh mall at the same time. I HATE that i have to drive 40 minutes to get there. I LOVE that theres plenty of parking and its covered parking as well. I HATE the lack of good food options at the food court. But i keep coming back to her. Because its just one of those malls that everybody goes to. Its a household name in Metro Detroit. Its one of those malls that weathered out the recession when it hit Detroit hecka hard. Ru waiting for my favorite shops??? Ok, one would have to be The Detroit Shop. Its always interesting seeing detroit items and seeing if you can post em up on walls and such. Then theres the Windows store,, just because i have a surface and yes, theyre more than just machines that check facebook posts and watch netflix. Theyre real computers that do real things. If you've ever been to South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA, then you will be familiar with the layout here. The mall is split into two buildings because it is on both sides of the street with a walkway connecting both parts. There is one side with the luxury brands and then the other stores you would find at a typical mall like Gap, Express, etc. I've never seen a mall with a huge concierge booth before. It looked bigger than the ones in hotels. Since I've been to South Coast, I can definitely say that this place is better decorated than it. They go all out for holidays. It is also smaller which could be a good or a bad thing. I've never really been a fan of a split mall. This is the premier mall in this area and the mall that you will least likely be shot at. :) read more

The best shopping mall in Michigan - period. There really isn't a debate on this. Ever since they added "North Mall" to the original "South Mall" it became the pride of Michigan. You take an out of state visitor to say "See! Isn't Michigan great! I told you not all of southeast MI isn't like the movie 8 Mile!" I've been to many top malls all over the country, but I must agree that Somerset ranks among the best in the nation. Newer North mall has more of the average working class stores which South mall has the brand name stores like Gucci & Tiffany's. Skywalk on second floor connects the two malls. The food court on the third floor of North Mall is ok, but you are paying a premium mall price. The best bet is to dine at P.F. Chang's in the North Mall - west side, but it does get pretty crowded during lunch time on weekends. P.S. Parking during Christmas season is really bad. There aren't that many great malls in the Michigan area, unlike California or New York (bigger cities). This was the first time we traveled to this area, a few minutes away from our hotel in Sterling Heights. This is an amazing mall, very spacious and high-end. The people are really nice and there are a lot of activities to do. From Gucci, to Burberry, to even just American Eagle Outfitters, there's a huge range of stores that vary from expensive to casual. The food court also has a wide variety of food. Also, it's nice that there is a skywalk to take you from one building to another. read more

My favorite mall. It is clean, bright, and has a simple layout. It has pretty much every store you would want to go to! They also have stores that you won't find at other malls in the area. The food court is not the best but i can't say another mall nearby has anything better. I think they offer a great variety, but I suppose I would expect it to be really good in each cuisine type. Outside of the food court, they have Capital Grille, which is awesome. They also have PF Chang's, J Alexander, Brio, California Pizza Kitchen. This is the nicest indoor mall we have in Michigan as far as I know about. I definitely have no issues spending hours here browsing my favorite shops: pottery barn, banana republic, apple, Swarovski, WHBM, coach, restoration hardware to eating at the food court and going floor to floor and end to end to see all of the wonderful stores offerings. One could easily lose an entire day here but luckily I have the sense when I have put enough use to my CCs for a day. My friends from out of state or out of country love coming here to shop for great items and then some. It's a good spot to come with the family as there are stores for everyone there. Do take the sky walk to the opulence of the south side of the mall too. My budget tends to keep me mostly on the newer north side. Happy hunting. Went early and wasn't bad on this Black Friday shopping today. Bustling all year round and today was no exception at all. Lines at pandora and Lululemon and several other stores just to get inside the store. Was here for nearly 4 hours in a blink of an eye. The Somerset Collection is definitely one of the nicer malls in the state, if not the nicest. It's got a good selection of affordable shops (Zara, Abercrombie, the north face, etc.) as well as the more "boujee" shops located across the way after taking the skywalk. They also have the staple department stores (Neiman, Macy's, Nordstrom). Another reviewer from SoCal put it the exact same way I would have. It's a good mix between the nice part of south coast plaza and the rest is very Westfield Santa Anita (also a very nice mall to be fair). The mall is nice and I might just be picky or used to larger mall settings coming from Southern California but I personally thought the selection of stores could be better/bigger. The mall itself isn't very large (you can see end to end) but it is very nice looking (think the atrium of a cruise ship). The food court is also super disappointing for a mall of this size, the only good options are chick-fil-a which always has crazy long lines because there are so few stand alone ones in this state, and the recently opened shack shake (save yourself a short drive down big beaver I guess). The restaurants here are nothing out of your ordinary ones. If you're looking for bargain shopping and discounts this is probably not your best bet. Go to Great Lakes crossing outlets instead. Parking is also a bit of a nightmare here but i imagine that has to do with weekend crowds and the fact this is one of the only malls in the area. The ambience and selection of shops is enough to keep me coming back for my occasional shopping trips while I'm here, but most of my spending can wait til I'm at home. read more

If you want to be engulfed in entitlement and privilege, come on out to the "Collection" (not a mall. No, malls are for us normies). It's bifurcated by a sky-walkway replete with an automated track for those rich 17-year-olds with $100 haircuts who can't be bothered to walk a few feet. On one end, you have designer stores selling ridiculous bags or whatever to the wealthy. If you trade in class signifiers, you'll wal...you'll stand on the moving platform to come over to this side. If you've ever wanted to see someone be given complementary champagne while trying on a shoe that costs as much as my rent, head over there. On the other side, you can still go and get a crew neck sweater, but you'll only pay $500 for it instead of a grand. The parking structure - which is several stories high and perpetually packed - is a nightmare to navigate. Oh, and to give you a sense of how bougee this place is, the Sears had a DJ, mocktails made of seaweed, cucumber and simple syrup, and live models. It's a place for obscene displays of wealth and gross opulence. The "Collection" is where you go to feel your soul slip away. read more

Although this mall is on the edge of being too high priced it does have some deals if you're careful and take your time. This is a halfway point between me and my son's home so we occasionally meet here for shopping and dinner. Since there are almost like two complete separate malls we will shop on one side for a while going up and down three levels of shopping and then we cross the street with tunnel over the road and do shopping on the other side of the street. The mall on the south side has a food court with some nice choices. My favorite restaurant on the north side of the street is the California pizza kitchen. I usually park on the north side behind the mall. There is a covered parking structure that generally has extra parking spaces, even during the Christmas shopping season! read more

I absolutely love this mall! This is seriously the best mall to go to! From the parking lot, to the bathroom to the stores everything is always super clean!! You never see trash around. The food court is kept up really nice as well! There are always employees wiping down tables and sweeping the floors. This is one of the busiest malls that I know of but they are doing a great job with social distancing and keeping everything clean. Stores are limiting how many people are allowed inside the store at a time, they have markers on the floor where you should stand when in line and have plexiglass at most checkouts in the stores. By the entrances and exits they have hand sanitizer that they encourage you to use. I went to pandora and they actually have an employee keeping track of how many people are in the store and they actually let you in and out of the store to prevent a bunch of people packed in here. All their employees had their masks on properly. They had my order ready and I was in and out super quick. The food court is one of the best for a mall. They have shake shack, sbarro, chick-fil-a, Chinese food, honey tree and a few other places. So they have a good variety to choose from. They have sit down restaurants like California pizza Kitchen, brio, and P.F. Chang's. Don't forget to check out Mrs. Fields cookies while you are here! They have the most amazing chocolate chip cookies! I always make a point to stop by and get some cookies while I am here. Both sides of the mall offer valet as well. They have a ton of security guards patrolling the inside of the mall as well as the parking deck and lots. I always feel safe coming here. THIS REVIEW IS FOR BARE MINERALS: I have a love-hate relationship with Bare Minerals. I like their products but going into the store to buy them is always a journey. When you walk in it feels like a furniture store where all the sales associates attack you. They do a good job at making you feel like you need more than you actually do. However, I find the tactics as more annoying than helpful. I never feel comfortable to just walk around the store and explore the products. Each time I just want to browse a sales associate comes up and talks to me about the products I'm looking at. Today for example every single section I went to I had a sales associate tell me about the product. I just want to look and I don't need a full explanation and tutorial of how the products work or are great. While on the other hand - I was asked if the shade color I use I still like and I said I have no idea. Instead of being offered to try out other colors the sales associate just said "ok". Perfect moment for her to actually talk to me and create a dialogue. She knew I came in to buy this product. I had all three sales associates say hi to me and try to start a conversation. Just too much for such a small store. I usually like to get in and get out asap because otherwise I'm stuck there getting sucked into products that I really don't need. However, the location of the store is on the first floor and easy to access. read more

I went there on Saturday night as one of Michigan's best malls in the state. Beautifully decorated for the holidays BUT, I was surprised there was no COVID-19 rules being enforced. People walking around in large groups mask only half on, no social distancing, nobody monitoring the elevators. This place has outbreak written all over it!!! Definitely my favorite mall in the area. You can find the majority of brands you are looking for, they have plenty of parking (except for holiday seasons), and I find it's pleasant to shop here. The northside parking is attached to the building and has multiple floors while the southside parking is an outdoor one. The mall has a concierge service and provides curb pick up. The concierge at the southside has Happy Return, it's a 3rd party return service, which can provide a free return to many online merchandises and give you $10 gift card to spend at the mall (can be used all shops and restaurants). Check with them to see what brands they are working with for the returns as they are expanding the selections. Also, the $10 thing is mostly like a promotion as their business just started not long ago, probably won't last forever. I've returned my Everlane purchase here a couple of times, the benefit of returning here vs. mail back by myself also includes I got the refund immediately instead of waiting for them to get the package and then process. read more

This is my favorite shopping mall. I always went here to buy birthday presents or new school clothes. I have many memories from this place as I have done scavenger hunts and just hanging out with my closest friends. I remember shopping at the children's place to justice to now pacsun. I remember always trying to find the cool new place to shop but with time I realized just shopping for your own thing is the best way to find your own style. The food court is also really good as I love the ice cream and yummy fast food. If you have a sweet tooth there is a sweet factory that has a various different candy. My favorite is the crystal candies aka pure sugar! Lol yes i really like shopping here and I would recommend it to anyone that is bored. Even eye shopping is fun! It has all of my favorite stores like Neimans, Saks, Gucci, Fendi, Polo Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Versace and many, many more. Even though this is a very high end mall there is something for everyone. If you can't find it here then it doesn't exist! This huge mall is broken up into two buildings that are designated as Somerset North and Somerset South that are connected via the Skywalk moving pedestrian walkway. Each building has a anchor department store at each end with Nordstrom and Macy's in the north building and Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus in the south. Think of Lennox Square and Phipps Plaza in Atlanta connected to each other. The north building is 3 levels and the south building is 2. The décor of the mall is stunning. It features lots of fountains, palm trees and tons of natural light from the glass roofs that are all over the place. They also have a really diverse food court located on the third level in the north building that offers some really unique choices other than the usual mall food court suspects. Be sure to check out Mac N' Cheez For sit down dinning they offer Brio Tuscan Grille, California Pizza Kitchen, J. Alexander's McCormick & Schmick's, PF Chang's and The Capital Grille. As far as parking goes they offer parking lots, several garages and valet service. The valet service costs $5.00. But, valet parking is complimentary to all visitors with a visible handicapped sticker. We parked in the garage connected to Neiman Marcus which kept us out of the elements. Some info for all of the morning mall walkers: Walking once around any level in Somerset North equals about 1/3 of a mile (1,610 feet). Walking once around any level in Somerset South equals a little over 1/4 mile (1,345 feet). Walking one way across the Skywalk equals over 1/8 of a mile (700 feet). F.Y.I.
