It is hard to see how few people are at the Oakland Mall on a Saturday night. Back in the day it would be bustling with people eating and hanging out on the weekend. There still seems to be quite a few stores here that interest the family, especially the kids, like Hot Topic, Forever 21, Spencer's, H&M, Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Sbarros...but it seems very empty of both people and stores. I am also not sure about how this place is labeled on yelp, it looks like someone tampered with the name of the mall. The other thing about this place is it is organized very strangely, like parts have a second floor and parts have a lower level, very confusing. There are so many great restaurants and shopping opportunities around this mall to help support customers, maybe it could have a revival? We came here because we went to some stores close by and also wanted to see if we could find a particular, which we were unable to find. Perhaps they could not survive. I am not saying I would not return, but since there is another mall in Troy, I am more likely to go there and just go to other strip malls and restaurants over here. read more

The near-empty atriums of Oakland Mall on a Sunday afternoon stood in stark contrast to my childhood memories of this shopping mall when it was bustling with shoppers throughout the 1980s and 1990s. I remember Oakland Mall being so crowded that it was hard to make one's way through the corridors on weekends without bumping into people. When I was a kid, Oakland Mall seemed to cater more to a middle to upper middle class clientele. Now it is solidly mid-market with the Somerset Collection taking over as the upscale shopping center in Troy. Despite the many empty storefronts, including the massive hole left behind by where Sears once stood, Oakland Mall is a decent shopping center worth visiting. Macy's and JcPenney have occupied the same retail space for as long as I can remember, and are still there. The same goes for the longstanding A&W, which I find to be a clean location with good fries and cheese curds. Other stores that can be found at Oakland Mall include Dick's Sporting Goods, New York & Company, Bath & Body Works, Claire's, H&M, Tai Ji Wellness, BrowArt23, and a small food court. It's unfortunate that so many shopping malls have not found a way to bring back customers who have turned to online shopping. The few successful shopping malls I have seen have been good at diversifying with lots of restaurant options, high and low-end stores, and the addition of supermarkets. I would love to see a Target or Meijer open up where Sears used to be. I think there is potential for Oakland Mall to revitalize if it can bring in a major retailer or supercenter. Until then, some of those empty spaces would make great haunted houses or escape rooms! read more

Oakland Mall is conveniently located immediately off I-75 at 14 Mile Road in Troy. It has major anchor store Macy's, At Home, and J.C. Penney's and a varied selection of other stores and restaurants, 124 in total. It used to be our mall of choice partly because it was one of the closest malls from our house and offered a decent collection of businesses! Parking is more than adequate although on busy days like weekends and holidays you should be prepared for a hike. And the traffic on 14 Mile Road and John R can be challenging at the wrong time of day. As for the mall itself, it has seen better days and could use more attention to cleaning and maintenance. There are several newer and more modern malls in the area that supply competition for Oakland Mall today. read more

A bunch of trees parachuted out of a plane. We found all of them except for the Oak. So now we need to know: Where did the Oak land? This is a little old mall that reminds me of the old days of shopping malls. I can imagine 30 years ago this would have been a Shopper's Paradise and these days it just looks kind of dingy and run down like an industrial estate, claustrophobic, crowded, and out of date AF. Depressing or nostalgic, you decide... and when you get inside it's kind of funny. The layout just doesn't correlate with what you expect from a mall. Not these days anyway. But still has plenty of stores and plenty of good stuff. Reminds me of an old English shopping centre in some ways, in a good way perhaps. A "precinct" as we used to call them. I've shopped at several stores in this mall and the Victoria's Secret was probably the most memorable experience although I didn't end up buying anything here because they didn't have much of a selection. Kind of like we don't have much of a selection as to whether we live or die. Just a natural selection. read more

Once a decent mall, no longer. I know times are tough on malls. Lots of empty stores, areas looked dirty. Was gonna have lunch, but food service personnel were scratching their nose and serving food without cleaning. And why does everyone smell like pot - even through a mask. Multi level mall with lots of entrance points. Location is great for meeting up, walking and people watching. Tons of open space and natural lighting. Can't wait to see it in 20 years, I bet the new Italian owner turns it into an awesome knock off of Somerset! read more

It saddens me to see this mall go downhill. It saddens me more that the mall is going under simply because online shopping has taken over and not because of the state of the mall itself. It's the same clean, well taken care of mall...just with a lot less stores and visitors. I think it will stick around a lot longer than other malls (I believe we'll see the day when no malls at all exist) I have so many memories here. It just doesn't feel the same walking through. There are still some pretty big name stores in the main wing of the mall...Bath and Body Works, Forever 21, Windsor, Victoria Secret, H&M to name a few. The other wings of the mall are pretty dead, nothing but small name and boutique stores or no stores at all. I only come here when I need something on a time crunch and need to get in and out or if I don't feel like going to Somerset. read more

Malls seem to be coming a bit of a ghost town. Oakland is your average mall. It's clean, has ample parking and lots of stores that my kids and I frequent. This mall has more affordable stores than Somerset in Troy. We visited to look for my daughter's homecoming dress. She wanted to get a head start before they were picked over. As far as food, we stopped at Starbucks for a quick drink and my daughter's adore Aunt Annie's for fresh pretzels. This is my go to place for shopping when I don't order online. read more

There is nothing special about this mall and it isn't as luxurious and well appointed as Somerset collection but it does have all of the basics and there are over 8 discount jewelry stores all under one room, plus some jewelry kiosks too. It's a good place to stop for a gift in in pinch for sure. read more

This mall used to be THE mall as it was a destination at some point. It has fallen on hard times and is no longer a destination. I used to shop this Macy's for men's clothes, but the buyers for this location don't seem to care to cater business professionals as there is literally a minimal lack of options. This used to be a great alternative to Somerset Macy's with more convening parking and ease of getting in and out. I rarely shop here anymore, but the women's departments seem to be in better shape. I miss the old Oakland Mall with all the great stores and immaculate cleanliness and service. I refuse to buy clothes online. read more

Wow, how the mighty have fallen on hard times. Remember the mall? Everyone and their besties looked forward to the school bell to ring so they could spend a few hours wandering through the corridors or gather in the food court. There was always that one friend whose parents forked out a couple bucks every day, the girl or guy buying fries split six or seven ways. Maybe I've been watching too many old Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club-style teen movies. But the mall definitely had an air of teenaged years and excitement. Glittery displays at the Christmas season have become a thing of the past. Mainstay storefronts part of my earliest childhood are long gone, replaced by the ghosts of their ilk or fly-by-night shops. In the online shopping era, the relevance of the Oakland Mall is called into question and the desperate need to reinvent itself remains very much a relevant concern. I find a trip to the Oakland Mall to be an unfortunate necessity rather than a walk down memory lane. Partly that's due to the horrific traffic laid out on 14 Mile, where hopelessly backed up columns of cars try to barge their way onto the 75N ramp - and please, someone redesign it! But you have to navigate a sea of parking lots to get anywhere, and when you get inside... It's depressing. The large structure is dominated by Macy's, JC Penney, and a new AtHome store in the carcass of a mutilated, shuttered Sears. Fair credit, AtHome is probably the nicest shop in the mall. Forever 21 and Dick's Sporting Goods take over as anchor tenants. The problem with the Oakland Mall really lies in how disorderly the content of the anchor shops are; the changing array of tenants in between them; and general cleanliness issues. The mall just isn't that inviting. It's dark in places, hopelessly vacant down unvisited entrances. Some new, modern lighting would go a long way for a more desirable shopping experience. On my last visit, there was a dire need for basic mopping floors. Overturn leaves a changing parade of shops, many of which are small businesses rather than franchises. A healthy mix of small businesses is great. Not all these businesses seem to be thriving, though, and I highly advise calling ahead to confirm you have what you're looking for before you go. read more

Wow,, where do i begin? It's one of those malls that dies out and comes back to life over and over again. Since it's close proximity to the Uber posh Somerset mall. It struggles to keep stores in its building for some reason. While the rest of the malls around metro Detroit spruce up for their new and improved interiors, this guy for some reason hasn't done anything yet. It's not a bad mall either, it just has some bad Feng Sui. Just walking the halls an navigating through the store's is a little awkward. I guess it isn't such a bad mall, it's just a little lacking for some reason. It's like a very pretty person, but just doesn't have the sex appeal, if you catch me drift. I dunno,, it's not bad is guess... I just don't care for it. read more

Ok, first of all I should have written this review years ago. I go here every three weeks to get my brows done. This place does threading and depending on who does your brows it will be beautiful. I recommend either Agnes or Lena, I'm sorry the other chick there messed up my brows so bad they had to completely grow out. My favorite person there name is Lena but Agnes is good too. And for the ladies who might have hair on their face, they thread that too. I'm usually in and out of there within 5 minutes, depending on the line. This is a basic, mid-range mall. The anchor stores are Sears, JC Penney and Macy's. There are other national brand stores like The Childrens Place, Express, Lane Bryant, Justice and The Limited. There are also smaller local stores selling import goods, body jewelry, formal gowns and accessories. The layout and look of the mall is antiquated, but functional. The exterior is also very bland, but the mall does feature skylights for natural lighting. There are benches by a central fountain area where seniors and others come to relax, meet friends and watch the shoppers go by. The sales are generally better at Oakland than other malls in the area, perhaps because overhead is lower due to rent. Recently, however, I haven't been finding super deals. Back in the day (about 8 years ago) this JC Penney had a 77 cent rack that legends were made of at the end of each season. Overall, this is my preferred shopping mall when I need basics and decent prices. It's not too far away and has a nice balance of stores with easy parking. read more

This place used to be so packed and now it's really become second to other malls in the area like Great Lakes and Lakeside but especially Somerset. In my opinion, it's tougher to shop at Somerset than here. For men's clothing, definitely recommend Sears. Everything in the men's sections are 20-25 dollars or less per shirt which is great. Along with JcPenney and sometimes Kohls, it's good to get quality clothing. Food court is nothing fancy like Somerset's but does have all the essentials including a Panda. A lot of popular brands have closed shop here over the last few years but they still have express and a good number of mainstream mall stores. We need to see this place back up to the way it used to be as well as a competitor to Somerset. A lot of the prices are great!!! read more

I see this mall as more of a 2.5 star but I don't have the option for that. First of all this is an old style mall that seems like it hasn't had a renovation since the 90s which makes sense there is no way this mall is making money. The people (shoppers) tend to be on the trashier side; think a little lower quality of people than Lakeside. To be honest the stores aren't that great either, your normal "mall stores" with the exception of Dick's and Panda Express. The Dick's is very nice compared to what is around the area for sporting goods and the only other Panda Express around is about 5 miles away. If you're looking for good deals go to Great Lakes Crossing. If you don't mind the crowds and snobby people go to Somerset. If you don't like either of those go to Oakland Mall. read more

Ok, so this mall isn't the greatest. But, it's not the worst either. I've seen bad, and this isn't it. Tired? Outdated? Needs so love and attention? Absolutely. I never really shopped here in it's heyday because I was closer to Twelve Oaks mall and maybe had been here a handful of times in the past. They have some good anchor stores here, such as Macy's and Sears, but don't really have much else going on. There's a weird dog store, a barber shop plus your typical stores like NY and company along with a few others. There is a Dick's sporting goods that is opening here soon, along with a Field and Stream that opened a few months back. I will give them credit for this because clearly, their trying to draw in new business and keep the place alive. But more work needs to be done for a variety of reasons. For starters, the parking lot is a cluster. It's tired, parking is weird, and there's a million speed bumps everywhere. Even making a left hand turn in here coming off I-75 can be weird and we sat in line for a while on a Saturday afternoon. I can't imagine trying to get in here during holiday season or during rush hour traffic. Forget it. Secondly, the outside of the mall looks extremely tired and depressing. It really needs to be updated or something. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned or updated since it was built! I do like the restaurant options around here and they do have a great variety of food around the mall. Businesses seem to be popping up in this area, and I like it. The stores inside are cool, but I would love to see it come back again before it goes into mall hell. I can't give this place more then 3 stars, but I can't give it less either. This is still a great mall to go to. It is fairly well-maintained and a large variety of stores, especially if you prefer a more basic type of lay-out and low to moderately-priced stores. The only thing I have never liked about this mall (hence the minuses star:-) is that it does not have an actual eatery. Plenty of places to dine and some of them are clustered together. However, when going with multiple people it's not the best set-up if everyone wants to eat together but still have something different to eat. This mall sucks. If I have to come here, I try to get in and out fast. It's usually just to run into JC Penney or Macy's. Some of the clientele scare me. The interior is outdated and depressing. I think it makes me feel sad when I'm here--so much for retail therapy. It hurts me to write this because I live close by and would hate to see this place close. It just needs to be updated big time. I wish they would do something quickly to save the place while there are still a few brand-name stores present. read more

Oh Oakland Mall...you are so ghetto. Though there are some decent stores here (Express, NY & Co), they do not have any good choices of clothes inside. The Express is completely worthless, Charlotte Russe is filled with sketchy looking people, and most of the people in the mall seem to be just loitering around the middle section. I only go to Oakland if I am in desperate need of something that absolutely cannot wait. Otherwise, I drive the extra 20 minutes to 12 Oaks. read more

Half of the stores in this place are strange and you've surely never heard of them before (Jimmy Jazz, BV2 Couture, Chic Couture - seriously there is NO couture in this mall - that is just false advertising!). It is so sad to see how far this place has fallen. Borders, The Gap and Hallmark have long since left. I hate the kiosks in the halls - who wants a creepy guy to rub lotion on their hands? EEK! There are some remaining name brand shops (Bath & Body Works, Victoria's Secret, Gymboree). I remember the mall in its hey-day when I was a child growing up in Troy in the '90s. Now, coming back as an out-of-state adult while visiting my parents, it saddens me to see that so many stores were unable to stick around through the tough economy. Many stores and restaurants have closed and ones that replace them are random, no-name, brandless businesses with high-margin items (ie. oriental rugs and baseball memorabilia sold in the same place). Overall, there were at least still a lot of patrons throughout the building and the department stores have at least remained, so there is still hope. read more

Actually the bf and I was required to come back for a... family event for his mother. In order to fulfill his parents' every wish and command, as a last resort we came to the mall in search of a, um, artifact. It is definitely on the ghetto side. An equivalent one back home would be... Hill Top Mall over in Richmond. In fact the mall is so ghetto it made Macys look like Neiman Marcus. As you all may know, I have the Yelp app for my iPhone. Because I have been checking in at places, including Oakland Mall, I have fallen a bit behind on my reviews. This is somewhat problematic, especially for my friends and fans, since I have become somewhat a regular here. So, here goes it. Throughout my childhood, I have been visiting Oakland Mall for various reasons. At one point in time, even, I regularly got my hair cut at the barber shop there. Of course, in those days, it seemed much larger than it really is. More recently, I once had a job in Troy, and I would pass through Oakland Mall daily. So, over time, this mall has played quite a role in my life. While, I will be the first to agree that this mall is starting to become a shell of its former self, I must say they manage to keep a decent collection of stores. First, the mall has three good department stores, which always have quite a variety in their selection. It is, however, a bit disheartening that the men's department of Macy's sits on the store's lower level, but they do have an escalator from the mall corridor into that department of the store. Second, they have a few other specialty stores I enjoy, such as Express and Journey's. Though it seems they are losing tenants, they still have a little bit of something for everyone. The last two reviews mention Steve and Barry's, which, unfortunately, closed. However, Oakland Mall also has a few decent dining options, including a food court, Olga's, Kerby's, and a Chili's, Krispy Kreme, and Logan's on the outlots. Though the mall is well-maintained inside, I will admit it is a bit dated. It is one of the older malls in the area, and it tends to show its age in some areas. Additionally, parking is usually decent, but on more crowded days, parking in the lots facing Fourteen Mile can be problematic. Around Christmas, I usually try to park in the back between Macy's and JCPenney or between JCPenney and Sears. If you are looking for something quickly and you are in the area, this is a good mall to get what you need and quickly browse. read more

Always have been a bit undecided about this place. On the one hand, this mall has a decent selection of stores, is fairly clean, location is good, etc. On the other hand, the crowd is often on the janky side - sorta brings atmosphere down a little. Food court isn't terrible; nothing is really terrible here - just acceptable and decent. No fancy restaurants or anything, no remarkably odd or unusual stores that I know of, just a mall that does its thing in an okay manner. Nothing wrong with that. There is a Krispy Kreme in a separate building in the parking lot, which is yum, and a Logans Roadhouse as well, which is okay. The area around the mall is interesting and filled with useful places like Gamestops and the UPS store, if I'm not mistaken. A Shell and two Mobil stations are close by as well as a Harbor Freight. Oakland mall is (more or less) centrally located and one of my more favorite malls in the Oakland/Macomb area. The mall is deceiving; it doesn't seem that it would be as large as it is, but it is HUGE inside. certain wings of the mall split into two levels only to add to how much they can pack into the place. There's many stores here that I like visiting. They have a Yankee Candle store in here, which has a great selection of candles (and especially gift sets), lots of good shoe shopping, and the only Express in the area. Woo! I don't have any of the problems I had at other malls here: no crazy mall security, no impending mall closure... just going about my day and shopping is all that happens here. And having a huge bookstore helps make it a place I'll visit over and over! If you're having a lazy day, I'd suggest using valet. Yes, valet at the mall! It's pretty cheap and the boys take great care of your car. read more

Well, it's a mall. Before Somerset, this used to be THE MALL to go to in the area. I think it's still a nice place to shop, but being that I am not a "mall person," it's hard for me to give any mall 5 stars. It's clean, there are no hooligans hanging out here (from what I saw) and it's my go-to Macy's for when I am in need of Clinique. So if you got a chuckle out of my use of the word "hooligan" and you are looking to breeze through an unpretentious mall, stop in. They do have alot of good to offer. read more

Brow Art 23 should change their hours to 6:40 pm. They refused to service me because they had to clean up and leave at 7. The mall doesn't close until 7 and it takes no more than 5 minutes to clean someone's eyebrows. I've been in customer service for over 15 years and never have I received this kind of service. If I worked at any of my previous employers and turned away a customer before closing time I would be fired. I won't be returning! read more

I have always loved shopping at Oakland Mall since I was younger. The mall, as many malls around the area has died down over the years, and many of the older stores have closed down. So you can tell there is a decrease in customers, however, I still shop at the mall often, as most of my favorite stores are still located in the mall: Bath & Body Works, Lane Bryant, New York & Company, Macy's, and there are many more. Plus there are still some old school favorite places to eat, such as Cinnabon and the A&W restaurant, in which most of the old school restaurants are not in the malls anymore. I wish the Olga's restaurant was still in Oakland Mall. Also, there is still a café/restaurant in Macys, and a frozen yogurt place as well. So that's cool. Another bonus for me is that there is a small lottery concession stand in the middle of the mall to play lottery and buy scratch offs. I love that, b/c most malls doesn't have an area to play lottery. So all in all, great and convenient location, and there are so many restaurants, and other things to do right by the mall. The AMC movie theater, and most recently added over the summer is St. Julian Winery, which is right across from the mall, and the most genius idea ever. Every time I go to the mall, afterward I stop into St. Julian's Winery to order buy some wine. So a win-win situation for everyone! read more

The rest of the mall is okay, few closed store fronts but still a significant amount of shoppers. Overall the mall needs some upgrades and a better parking situation.
