I have had my eyes on this bright rainbow color bundle of Nike socks for a while. They can be found where the lines form for checking out area with the merchandise available for impulse purchases. However, I was intentional to purchase these socks and also donate a pair of shoes from my closet to DSW's Sole to Soul cause. In return, I received 50 reward points toward future purchases. I come to the John R DSW way to much. I am not trying to become a platinum DSW aficionado. They carry a lot of Mix 6, Uggs, Sperry, AK and Kelly & Katie flats and heels. I am so big into K&K them since they feel and fit so comfortably. Bought some AK's that were super comfy. Been adhering to the rule of only purchasing shoes that fit at first try and walk. Didn't have the silver metallic flats with no embellishment, would love it if they carried more metallic flats. Loving the calf hair black/brown and cream flats, goes with tons of things, much better than the Dr. Scholl's leopard print I bought a while back. I think I buy about 3/4 of my shoe collection from DSW, the rest from boutique shops as I prefer unique wears when possible. Would have been better if I had more than a $5 coupon, oh well, there aren't usually many good coupons that I can use when I find a pair of shoes it would seem for DSW. read more

They also have sale racks with varying percentages of discounts that continue to drop over time. So if you hold off to check a week later for an additional ten percent off, it may be gone. Came in right when they opened as I forgot to pack my sneakers for my trip. I was able to find what I was looking for as the store was super organized. I don't know where to start other than I thought I could stop in and pick up some new tennis shoes. DSW has always has had a ridiculous slow check-out no matter if you go on the weekend or a Tuesday. I have to say they have a great selection of shoes. I found the pair I wanted in less than ten minutes. However, it all fell apart when I tried to purchase the shoes. I got in this long ass line. I think they may have had one person, maybe two at best, in the checkout. After about twenty minutes in line and not moving forward, I set my shoes off to the side and walked out. I first thought there must have been some big sale going on but not the case--just slow checkout. I don't want to say I won't be back, but they need to learn how to get people out of the store quickly. I get it. I am small potatoes. I had a couple of pairs of shoes I was trying to buy. I think it was around 170 bucks worth. I have to say I saw other people do the same thing I did before I sat it down and walked out. I have been buying shoes here for years. I actual bought a pair of shoes today without visiting the clearance rack first! I came specifically for a pair of Sketchers GoWalk sneakers. (I did check their website first.) They had 'em! not all the colors, but I ended up getting a color I liked better. They were $10.00 off the retail price. This DSW does something my DSW back in Maryland doesn't do: They mix clearance shoes among their regular rows of shoes. I didn't have my usual coupon for $$ off a purchase, but I did have an email for triple bonus points (I love my new iPhone!), that I showed the cashier. Now, I don't know exactly what that does for me, but if it means a future discount on a purchase of shoes, I'm sold! read more

I did some shopping and made a return here this fall. With its high ceilings, the store feels big and open. It was easy to navigate and had great selection of shoes, socks, and novelty items (lots to look at while waiting in line). I appreciated the multiple staff members who left their posts to answer my questions and look for items I wasn't able to find myself. Hmm, I guess I've never reviewed this DSW? I've been a few times now. I generally frequent the one in Novi, since my parents live in that area, but I had one of those $10 off coupons (for DSW members) that was expiring today, so yesterday I headed over there in the rain. I found some Born sandals (B.O.C. by Born? I had never heard of that brand, only the Born brand, but apparently it's a sister brand or whatnot) for $35 in the clearance rack, plus another 30% off (so, about $25), so my final price was $15. Happy camper here. This is located in the strip mall across from Oakland Mall, it has a Kohls and some other stores in it. Parking is usually plentiful which is good, too. read more

There's no doubt that DSW is the jam for finding affordable options on footwear. My only wish is that their shoes were better quality - but once again, you get what you pay for. Even the pricier scope of options seems to have minor defects that may not be noticeable to the eye but that you can feel relative to your walking comfort. I'm still happy to get a year of wear out of a pair of their shoes that I wear regularly (almost daily). It would be great if they had some higher end options that were more consistent. I've been a fan of the Stacy Adams and the Kenneth Coles for dress shoes and their Asics are usually worth looking into also, for a running shoe on the cheap. Just be prepared for them to show some significant signs of wear in a shorter period of time than may be expected. Another great option for quality shoes on the cheap is the Loft. read more

I have only been to two other DSW's. One is in San Francisco which is big, has three stores but always crowded and a bit messy. The people who worked there are pushy. The other one is in Southfield. It was nice but was a bit small. Now this one is spacious and clean. The people who worked here actually seem like they wanted to be there. They were friendly but not pushy. I like that. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find anything but I will be back! read more

I wish I had gotten the name of the incredible employee who helped me out today. I'm in town visiting my in laws and they had planned a get together. As we were getting ready I realized my daughters shoes were too small and she has no other dress shoes. On the way to the party I called the store and explained what I was looking for and the size. When I arrived, three pairs of shoes in the correct size were waiting for me at the front and we were able to make it to the party on time with new shoes that were the perfect fit! Had a $20 coupon from them, and went to use it today. I only got 40,000 emails reminding me that it expired today. So I went in, picked out 2 $70 pairs of shoes. Went to check out, and the sales manager couldn't find my coupon. So I showed her my email, which stated "to redeem your coupon, show the cashier your email." And I showed her my email. She said "it's the wrong one." Long story short--I spent $300 in April, to get my $20 reward in may, and couldn't use it because the manager refused to honor my email. She said she had to have the code, which the 40,000 reminder emails did not inform me was needed of course. So instead of spending $140 today, I spent $0 and will never return again. No wonder the retail world is crashing. When will large companies learn to understand that customer satisfaction is so much more important than $20???? read more

How I love DSW. For a shoe fanatic, walking around this store is pure bliss. I will agree with the other poster and say that this store does not have the vast selection that other stores have, and have less of the designer brands that I have seen at other DSWs, however, I still like this location and it's friendly staff. Of course , Unless you're African American like the snotty unprofessional lady that supervises these employees and store ... expect poor customer service and rude cashiers.
