Lakeside is closing down. I came here for 1st time over 10 years again and it was always sort of empty even on the weekends. Only a few stores remain and they will close this June 30th. I'm not sure if that includes Macys and JC Penny's though. There's a sign out front that says it will become the future home of Lakeside Town Center. You were the belle of the ball in 1976. Nothing compared to you. When everyone else was a one story mall, you rose to the occasion with 2 floors. You were always busy and Christmas shopping was a nightmare. I came back to visit you and see that the gum balls have lost their luster. The fountain has dried up and the new age glass elevator lost its lights. To those that have looked down on this mega star, she was once 5 star quality. This Grizabella Glamour Cat deserves some respect. And, those sunken in leather couches. If they could talk. This is a decent mall. It's not fancy, but it serves its purpose. My friends from SCS used to go hang out or do some shopping here a lot. Our family went to Eastland until it became too shady and then ended up at lakeside mall for any shopping needs. It took my mom a while to get her to stop going to Eastland and driving a bit further to keep her and us safe. This is an old school mall, has the basics and more. It's similar to the Oakland mall by my house and has the similar walk ups on the second floor as Fairlane mall. I do still like walking inside the malls and having an array of stores to check out, it feels like malls are starting to disappear. read more

Back in the 80s and early 90s this was the preeminent mall in the northeastern area of the Detroit metropolitan area. I always thought the mall craze was overblown but pre-Somerset, pre-Partridge Creek Lakeside was the bee's knees for what it was. Now it's just a shadow of its former self, the modernist Taubman architecture and once aggressively cheery storefronts gone bare taunting its own past self. There are deader malls around but the size of this place exposes the weakness of the whole mall concept in 2023. Two missing anchors about kill each of those wings. Macy's is doing double duty with two stores, almost as a public service to help disguise the sorry state of affairs here. Never mind the man behind that curtain! I was last here during the holiday season last year when I was in the area and decided I needed to get my mom a bag of fancy lotions and bubble baths and whatever else girly stuff they put in those stylized, feminine bags. Every mall has a Bath and Body Works or it's equivalent, right? It's automatic; one of the only mall stores guaranteed to thrive in these increasingly post-mall times. Not Lakeside! I looked around before giving up and consulting the store directory where it was listed. Found the spot and there was the roll down door permanently closed with the sad halo tattoo of where the letters that spelled out the store name used to be. I don't even know if it was a recent closure or if they only update the directory infrequently and maybe wanna make the place look more viable than it is. They're supposed to be redoing this place into more of a mixed use development with the mall part downsized so it looks less like a kid wearing oversized hand me downs. I can't remember exactly and it might change anyway. Suffice it to say ol Lakeside has seen better days. read more

I didn't find any of the Lakes that were supposed to be in here. So where do the Lakeshide? I'll have to figure that out next time. I won't just find one. I'll find them mall. I have a lot of issues with this mall. It took absolutely forever to walk from where I parked which was supposedly the best place to park for Victoria's Secret to the actual Victoria's Secret store. Like an absolute eternity. I went in half the stores in here when I came with Barbie (and she wasn't impressed by most of it). Went in only a few by myself, mainly to buy things for her. It's kind of an old run-down Mall and has some really unfriendly people running around inside it. The employees working in here in several of the stores that I went in were some of the least friendly at any mall I went to. On the other hand I found some really amazing outfits for my girlfriend, including some that she had not found in any other malls and believe me we went to a lot looking for them. Overall though I would have to say this was one of the more frustrating malls I went to. There weren't really too many good looking people inside but there were a lot of bad attitudes and you can't be a jerk to me unless you're really sexy. read more

this mall is dying. there are a lot of empty spaces where stores used to be. but there are still reasons to come here : restaurants, macy's, and the reason i came here: express outlet with 70% of marked down prices! they also have auntie anne's pretzels, which i managed to avoid somehow. the people who work here are pretty nice too, and i can always find something to spend my money on. read more

I haven't been to Lakeside in forever, so when I stopped in I was completely surprised with the shape of it. There was so many closed off store areas. A lot of stores aren't around anymore. We walked around quite a while and the mall was dead. It wasn't like we were there super early. I was shocked to see how empty most stores were. Some of the stores we walked by were completely empty. I didn't blame anyone for going in because some of the clothing displayed were items I'd never wear. There are so many long ad signs all around, and we could not find a map for the life of us. After finally walking to many stores and trying to find one, we sat down to eat and finally found a map. I'm not sure why the signs don't all have maps. Maps are convenient for people that haven't been here in a while or new customers. It's hard to find anything. I noticed a lot of those mini shop areas. Much more than there used to be. Some were for piercings or toys, and some for hair or sweatshirts. Two of the men working were on their cell phones talking loudly in another language. I was surprised by this. They didn't seem interested in customers walking by. They had an Easter display, but it looks really small. No one was even waiting in line. I think they go to Somerset instead, or just don't care to have Easter photos. Some areas of the mall are really dirty. At least the mall was quiet today in most stores. It did make it easier for me to shop, but at the same time it felt odd. Fridays are usually busy you'd think. I know that most people go to Partridge Mall during the spring, summer, and fall. You even get more customers there in the winter than you do here. Partridge offers better food areas and actual restaurants, and a movie theatre. Lakeside doesn't have that many options to choose from unless you want fast food. Something that either isn't filling or healthy. This mall really lost it's spark when the other one opened up. Ever since then, business has been slow. Constant shops are closing. Can you blame them when there aren't many customers around? read more

Lakeside is a shadow of its former self, as many of the storefronts are vacant, a sharp contrast to only a few years ago. Many new retail outlets have opened up nearby including outdoor Partidge Creek. It's inevitable demise is apparent in its vacancy. The heat is set to a lower than standard temperature throughout most of the mall. There are only 2 functioning men's rooms in the entire mall, one in the mall and the other at Macy's for men. Yes, the appeal was both a women's and a separate Macy's for men. Many of the escalators in the department stores are non functioning. Hand sanitizer dispensers are empty, chairs in waiting areas are worn. The food court is empty. Many storefonts are waiting out the end. Most foot traffic is in the Women's Macy's, hence no men's room. That's where you'll find Starbucks. Department store workers push carts around to keep the stock filled and the store looking tidy-the effort is futile. Country music plays to a mall mostly devoid of shoppers. The ones that show up wander around looking for something that is no longer there. Leave women's Macy's and enter a ghosttown. read more

It's a pretty big mall that is not overcrowded during the pandemic and limits people inside some stores. The employees in the stores I went into, they were all friendly and professional. I will most likely be back to shop again. If you want something good to eat while here, visit the Chinese restaurant where the the food cafeteria is. I don't remember the exact name of it but I'm sure it's the only Chinese restaurant there open. There crab/cheese rangoon is good too. read more

This mall still has what we need here in Michigan. An indoor space to shop, walk, eat and spend time. Outdoor malls don't make sense here with our winters and not everyone likes to online shop for clothes then spend time making returns. Better to just spend an afternoon trying things on and looking at new things. The outdoor mall down the street that the stores left Lakeside for is now failing in many ways. They need to just come on back to Lakeside. New moms with strollers can walk around the mall as something to do and buy a little something here and there. Teenagers needing somewhere to go to hang away from their parents can get a pretzel and make TikTok's in the lounge areas. The right kinds of shops will generate more money. Watch what people are into. Please don't close the mall! read more

I was there to meet former Tiger Brandon Inge. The event was really good and it was good to meet Mr. Inge. The mall was your typical mall some businesses opened and a few were empty. read more

The shopping kind of sucks now. Only worth going for the Macy's there. Used to be really good but has gone downhill.

I am very sad to see what happened to this mall. It is a victim of circumstance and current shopping trends. You can see it was once a great mall with a lot of space. Not it is a skeletal reminder of the great mall of the 80's. There are mostly empty spaces with two and a half restaurants left at the food court. They have a beautiful merry-go-round that seems abandoned. An empty bounce house place, an empty ice skating rink, so many empty spaces. The store they have left are really good ones, but on a holiday, we were practically the only ones there with a handful of other shoppers. I believe they have plans to knock down this mall and build something new. I am for that if they actually go through with the plans and not just leave a broken empty blighted space. I do really enjoy all of the restaurants located outside the mall, so I hope they preserve that space. I like Shake Shack, Kimchi , Box, Portillo's, Chuck E Cheese, to name a few places we like to eat. Since they have a couple unique stores, I bet the kids will want to return anyway. read more

I can remember back in the 90s when this place was hopping! Today, it's nearly dead. A major portion of this mall is empty. It's really disheartening. The stores that are left mostly seemed to be doing ok, except the high end jewelry stores, no one was in them. Stores & come and go. Not many stores will stay here. The mall itself is somewhat clean, not very. It's a good layout of a typical mall, and it's near my house. The macy's is okay...but the nice thing is they have two macy's stores - one is men's & home, the other is women's, cosmetics, and children. Food court has good options including Kerby's, subway, Asian food, A&W, Taco Bell, and pizza. Panera Bread and Rojo are restaurants in the mall, and there are a few children's activities/play areas here. This is a good place to shop if you need a quick gift or clothing. read more

This mall isn't what it used to be back in the 90s. Probably due to lack of stores, lack of customers, lack of activity except holidays. At least it's a good mall to STOP IN to when the weather is bad outside. It's a great indoor mall to have a nice exercise walk and a rewarding lunch or dinner at the food court. The Carousel Ride is nice for kids. Reclining exercise vibrating chairs in the lobby. Yankee Candle, Body bath and bodyworks, Aunt Annie's pretzels, mrs. The scare of sex trafficking almost made me skip this mall altogether but some of the shops I go to are only here. Most of the shops here are closed or in the process of closing. I think the food court had only two shops open?? There are way better malls that aren't that too far away and that are way better experiences. read more

It's a mall. If you like to shop, this place is for you. I don't shop so it's not for me. I come here to either drop something off to my mom, or pick something up from my mom. It's closer to "visit" her here than for her to drive to my house, or me to hers. As a mall one can imagine there are lots of stores to shop at. Some have stood the test of time like Macy's (formally Hudson's) and others have come and gone. There's something for everyone here, I'm certain. Not to mention a food court offering both fast foods options like Taco Bell and A&W or more "meal like" food like Chinese, Philly Steaks or Italian. Rojos Mexican restaurant is also attached to Lakeside mall. They have a "play area" where you can let your kids run a muck, if you dragged them to the mall to shop and they protest being there. There is also Jeepers play place for kids, if you don't mind a "Chuck-E-Cheese" type atmosphere. Yikes- both places terrify me! I used to bring my kids here, years ago, to ride the Merry Go Round, they really liked it. But that was before the price went up to $5 a kid! $5 for 2 minutes - doesn't seem right. Stop ripping off the public! Anyways....It's a mall, if you need to shop, I guess this could be your place. I'll just stick with my ever faithful and trusty Target. read more

Even though I've known about Lakeside for years, I've never set foot into it until now. I've been to a few malls in my day, both good and bad, and this one is actually pretty good! For starters, they have really good anchor stores. Macy's, Sears, JC Penny's and plenty more small shops, they have a little bit of something for everyone. Place has plenty of parking, it's clean, and overall a decent crowd that comes in here to shop. They have a few restaurants inside and around the mall as well to eat and hang out at. Very typical mall in many ways, and there's really no formal complaints that I have about this place. Clean, well maintained, plenty of shops, and there's nothing overly horrible or amazing to say about it. Even though it's a little farther for me, it sure beats going to Oakland Mall any day of the week for any reason. Easy access from Hall Road/M59. Will be back in the future! read more

Stick a fork in it. I think it's done. Used to skip school here in the 70's. When the old man owner's farm house, who sold the farm they built the place on keeping himself a life lease on the house and a well maintained few acres there till he died, was still along Hall road where restaurant row is now They bulldozed his home and made more parking when he died. Like last century, this place has earned a spot in the history books. The whole M59 area is seriously nothing more than a concrete jungle. On a hot summer day you can head West on 59 and feel a 5 degree temperature drop as the concrete corridor sheds its acres of blacktop and strip malls for trees. Like everything East side, if it's green and growing, cut it down and pour concrete. Lakeside Mall is a standing tribute to that philosophy. read more

I'm giving this mall two starts due to the fact that our experience with Santa wasn't as good as it should Of been. Santa was very nice and looked realistic, beard and all but the teenagers that worked there were very unprofessional and made the experience really bad. They rushed the entire process making it a production instead of an experience. Also I couldn't even pick out my picture of my family that I liked but the girl did and stated that there's a line so she's picking the best picture she feels is right,,,, ummmmm okay I just paid for one photo pose for almost 50 Dollars and I can't even pick which one I like ???? Just the entire experience felt very rushed. Thankfully my 4 year old likes Santa since he was super kind and my 4 month old didn't know better. But I suggest they hire normal age appropriate workers with children that know it's an important moment for families. read more

Lots of familiar brands like Bath & Body Works, Macy's, etc, and a few new stores I had never heard of either. Food court also looked pretty nice. We went on a Sunday. The stores don't open until noon. In today's fast paced world, noon is just too late. The mall had a lot of people walking around and groups waiting in front of the stores to open. I wish they would take another look at their Sunday hours and open an hour earlier. Partridge Creek right up the road opens at 11:00 which is nice. We were surprised to see the number of vacant store fronts inside the mall. The M-59 corridor is a mega shopping area so why can't Lakeside find or keep their mall full of tenants? It is a nice place to walk but the mall as a whole could be refreshed with some updates. I want to say that I'm usually writing great reviews about Lakeside Mall. It's been a nice place for my daughters and their friends to meet up and do some shopping while I enjoy myself as well. food court and men's clothing wear and shoes. I hate that it has slowed down a lot but we know things change as years go by and Covid19 affected a lot of our businesses including mine so I understand. I pray all the business owners like myself fully recover or reinvent and continue to provide great service and feed their families. I'm usually not the one to complain about to much, but hey Yelp provides the platform for it so here it goes. I'm an African American male with daughters who had been shopping at the mall for a few weeks now since it reopened. now I'm aware that you will always have your typical stereotypical people who don't think for themselves or just having a bad day. ok, understandable that's fine we're all human. So, I went into this store this afternoon called, Deals that my daughters wanted to take me to because of great deals, and when I arrived they're true! It started great with one of the young ladies there helping people out including myself selecting clothes and such. We laughed, tried on some stuff great right! about 30 minutes into being there another woman comes into the store with her little girls, probably around 6 or 7 years of age. I'm there with my 13-year daughter. As the woman walks around the store I assume she probably was the owner or manager. she speaks in her Arabic language telling the young woman to the effect asking what are you doing and where is the other girl. The other young lady had just gone in the back 5 minutes before she comes into the store. So we mind our business cause, after all, I came for some deals. I and my daughter noticed the short lady that came in ranting started staring at us and she spoke in her Arabic language to one of the other girls about us. we ignored it and as we approached the check out counter. the young lady that we were greeted by earlier was ringing us up. This is when things started to get strange. We noticed the little girl facing us from the other side of the counter staring at us over and over.. the lady who came in ranting, obviously was the mother or something. she had her back to us and put her hand inside her purse and spoke to her I assume daughter to watch. but what she didn't know is my daughter speaks Arabic and we both looked at each other. I immediately told the young lady that I'm feeling very uncomfortable right now and ask why is this woman standing there with her back to us with her hand in her purse. Now I don't claim to be a professor of law or store protocol specialist, but where I'm from that usually means someone is holding a pistol in their hand. I told the young lady that I didn't want anything at this point and we left. I didn't believe in making a scene at that point because number one I was with my daughter and there were other people in the store. What's disturbing is she didn't have any regard for her daughter. Why would you create a situation and have your small daughter involved in your demented thoughts? Later after me and my daughter shopped at a few other stores and had to walk by on the way to the parking lot to leave. we saw the nice young lady and the other nice young woman. I told her it's ok and ask her why she would do something like that, she just said she didn't understand why she would do that. My answer is simple cause I'm black and she has fallen into media conditioning. All blacks are not robbers and thieves, just like all Arabic are not terrorists. Not all white people live in a trailer park, not all Asians own a nail to make Chinese food, not all Mexicans clean houses. The point is, I didn't make a big deal then but I'm making it known to everyone else. What kind of parent puts their child in risk or danger like that. My last thoughts were I'll pray for her children that they're mom seeks medical attention. I appreciate just the opportunity to share, hate it was this way cause Lakeside Mall overall is the kool spot! This is my all time favorite place to go. I really like to shop there. It has so much good clothes. I like to relax there sometimes. The food is delicious! I really like the orange chicken there. It's the best! I go there almost every Sunday because it's one of the best places that I have ever went. One of my favorite shops is Payless because it has so much shoes for my kids. The design is nice. My kid really likes JoesGaming Center (I think that's the name.) If you never went there you should go there! read more

What used to be thriving mall is now a ton of vacant stores and broken elevators. Management has done horrible on maintaining the grounds, there water fountains have not been functional for ages. Also there is almost no security for safety anymore which has lead to some rough crowds. I used to have faith in the mall.... however I think the only viable option is to let the mall go and start all over. read more
