Brussels Sprouts
Joseph S.

I finally made it back to Somerset during this visit to Chicago! It didn't disappoint! I was with a family member and we decided to share all of the plates. We started with the Potato Leek soup. It was a great starter on a cold Chicago day. It had a very smooth and creamy texture, and was garnished with labneh and leek oil. Next up was the Salt Roasted Beets. Salt-roasting beets supposedly increases the moistness and sweetness of the beets. This dish was excellent. The beets were delicious and combined with the salad, whipped ricotta and a layer of crushed pistachios, it was an amazing side dish. Our main course, the Falafel sandwich and the Crispy Brussels Sprouts came together. We shared both, and to be honest, slicing the sandwich in half was a challenge, but we successfully managed to cut it. The falafels were accompanied with hummus and tzatziki. The falafels were crispy on the outside, with a savory chickpea flavor, and light and fluffy inside. The Brussels Sprouts were tender and soft, with a delectable glaze that made them irresistible. The lunch was great, and I hope I'll have an opportunity to return when I visit Chicago!

A little Fever Tree pop up where they offered samples of their zero-proof beverages with Instagram ready backdrops and a DJ pumping some Halloween music jams in the courtyard. This was very impromptu and very cute! I cannot really speak to the restaurant or menu here but it definitely piqued my interest to come back another day as we already had lunch down the street when we came by.

We went here for brunch to celebrate birthdays! The host was so sweet and went above beyond for our group. He took so many photos for us lol I wasnt to impressed with the menu, it's pretty basic. However the calamari was really good and the chicken&waffles was 10/10. They brought us a slice of cake of our birthdays, which was really sweet. But I do not think I would be excited to return. The restaurant isn't memorable to me for Chicago.

First off, the location is in a very busy area, so parking can be tricky--you might have to valet. We had a reservation for a party of 9, and while I understand policies about seating incomplete parties, the restaurant was not busy at all and had plenty of open tables, yet they still refused to seat us until most of our group arrived. That was frustrating, especially given how empty the place was. On the food side, it was a mixed bag. The Brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious, easily the highlight of the meal. The cinnamon roll, unfortunately, was super dry, and the shakshuka was way too sour--it really needed more herbs to balance the flavors. The burger was pretty standard, but the salted bun was a nice touch. What I did love was the ambiance--the open kitchen concept and all the natural light made for a great dining atmosphere.

Came here for dinner and drinks and really liked it! Thought the service and ambience were great. The weather was beautiful so got to sit outside, but the inside looked very nice too. For drinks I had the ciao-biscus and tajinarito. Both were great, albeit a little diluted. For food we tried the crispy pretzel calamari, herb crusted salmon, and baba ganoush. Highly recommend the salmon! It was plentiful, cooked well, and tasty. Skip the calamari - there was hardly any and it didn't taste of pretzels. The baba ganoush was good. Overall had a great experience and would come back! Recommend!

Nice outdoor seating

Normally, we don't look to eat at restaurants in hotels. However, looking at the reviews of Somerset and their menu made us ignore that thought. The inside dining room of the Somerset is very nice and has a nice bar with a TV. The outdoor seating is exceptional, and being a nice day outside made us land there. Our wait person, Liz, quickly greeted us and brought menus and water to us. We ordered a couple of nice cocktails, the Peachy Clean and the Spice is Right. They both were very tasty. The Burrata with strawberry compote sounded terrific. We also decided to split the Prix Fixe Menu for lunch. Our first course was butternut squash soup. It was quite thick with pepitas in it. It was extraordinarily delicious, some of the best we've ever had. The Burrata was accompanied with perfectly cooked ciabatta and was a fantastic dish for the table. Our second course was the herb crusted salmon with lentils and white asparagus in a yummy berbere sauce. The salmon was cooked exactly per our request. We will definitely get this unique salmon dish again! Our dessert was very good key lime cheesecake with a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. The restaurant was getting quite busy. All of the staff, including Trish, the manager, was helping everyone else out. Adam, the bartender, came to tell us they were out of the red wine I had ordered. What was really sharp was that he brought a sample of a similar wine that he thought I would like instead. Besides being very friendly, our wait person, Liz, was helpful informing us about different menu items. Overall, our experience at Somerset was one of the best we've had in a long time. And, fyi, the Viceroy, the hotel that houses the Somerset seems quite nice.

Breakfast Sandwich with crispy potatoes.

I went to the Somerset by myself on a business trip. The food, service and ambiance were amazing. The coffee was fresh and I never had to wait for a refill. I sat near the window and enjoyed the view while waiting for my food. I had the breakfast sandwich which had homemade chicken sausage (patty) and crispy potatoes. I don't usually eat the potatoes but they were so good! Hope to come back soon!

Osasu the manager today was lovely and attentive to me without my asking. She went above and beyond and made my experience great! The food was good... the key lime cheesecake was not great bc the cheesecake itself didn't have much lime but the rest of this dessert was good! The ice cream, the coconut crumble, the whipped meringue... all yummy! The cous cous salad was very fresh and dressing homemade and good (I liked it on the side bc it's full of flavor and vinegar) and the duck pasta dish was flavorful. Ambience beautiful... lots of party events can take place here on 2 floors, nice outdoor seating, lovely bathrooms.

We had brunch here on a Saturday and it was 3/4 full seemed like. Made reservations but still waited alittle bit to get service at the table, so plan ahead. Once we ordered it was quick for the food to come out and it was all very good. If you are looking for a nice patio on a nice day, check it out for sure. The inside has a cool center bar that looks pretty iconic.

Açaí Yogurt Parfait With Coconut Milk Yogurt

Get some pretty good brunch at not crazy high prices for around here. It's actually open later too but it's best known for the good stuff it has in the morning. Somerset is a pretty casual and chillaxing place even though it looks upscale. Has a fairly good amount of typical breakfast favorites. The lunch and dinner has more things. At breakfast the group came and got seated and it wasn't busy yet so there wasn't a long wait like others may have. It was serving the brunch menu. The items were mostly breakfast but there was some lunch stuff too. Has some vegan and vegetarian choices. It's $12 for the Açaí Yogurt Parfait. Added a few bucks to substitute dairy free yogurt made with coconut. Simple yet a good day starting meal. As for the others they liked what they got. The portions were a bit small, which was the biggest complaint about the food it seems. Brunch is the most popular time to come. It has a pretty good variety of both the breakfast and lunch items. The menu also has options for vegans and vegetarians.

Eggs Benedict, French toast

The restaurant looks fancy but the brunch items tasted very average. The French toast was and eggs Benedict were all very average for a pretty steep price which is why it felt disappointing.

Barramundi
Annie A.

The restaurant is beautiful, and my group sat outside on a summer night; it was very charming with the twinkle lights. Our server was knowledgeable but a little condescending and got annoyed when we asked questions about the food. He recommended the barramundi which was very good and a few people in our group ordered it. I kept double checking to see if any of the dishes were spicy, a little sensitive over here . The salmon was mediocre and the salad had some really hot peppers on it. It is on the pricier side so I expected better quality in service and food.

Roasted Salmon Dinner Mains
Aly M.

Surprised the quality of the food was so-so because the location is great and the atmosphere was nice with live music. The place was understaffed so there was only 1 waiter for the whole inside and outside and it took 2 hours to get food. I think there is potential for this place to be decent if they can hire more staff. The waiter did outstanding though for serving so many tables without showing stress and was very nice. However would I go back for the food if the service improved? Absolutely not.

Enjoyed a nice brunch for three. I enjoyed the eggs Benedict, coffee and a bloody Mary. Not crowded at all on a Saturday morning.

The lighting, the decor, everything. Waiting for our table, we sat at the bar and had the extreme pleasure of interacting with Al, our bartender. He was very welcoming and had plenty to say about the establishment as well as a little of the area's history. Moving to our table, we were tended to by Chuck, who also did great credit to this place. He was patient and helpful in guiding us through the menu. Everything sounded good, but we went with a couple of items he recommended. We started with oysters and a salad, each of which were delicious, cold, and satisfying. The cocktail sauce for the oysters was delicious, and we actually preferred that to the vinegar mix, which never happens. For our mains, we went with the crab cake and steak frites. These were spectacular dishes. The crab cake, we had been told, was made with the best meat of the crab, including the claws, and it was evident. The steak was juicy, tender, and perfectly cooked. We also had the mushroom casserole as a side. Think of an elevated green bean casserole, but with mushrooms. This was suggested by Chuck, and damn, if he wasn't right. Finally, we had to try their famous sticky date cake for dessert. This was also an excellent suggestion, and I highly recommend trying this if you have the belly space after the filling meals. This was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had, and it was worth every penny. Thank you, Trivoli Tavern, for an unforgettable meal.

The inside is extremely intimate and beautiful. The food was good. I wouldn't say it's fantastic compared to all the other places Chicago has to offer.. their sticky date cake speaks to the 4 star review. The bread, on the other hand was seriously to die for. Try the truffle bread with butter!

The bar service was excellent - a cold beer and finally, a shot of Malort were in order. The bartenders were very welcoming and clearly making sure all of the patrons were having a good time. The restrooms were oddly decorated - the women's restroom is plastered all over with images of Justin Timberlake, while Britney Spears adorns the walls of the men's room. Luckily, her pics aren't current - they are from her hot era. What a cool spot if you are a local or a tourist - I'll be sure to pop in on my next visit to Chicago, for sure.

Kari's Rating 4/10…read more When you think of west loop you think of good food-it's not definitely not here. Nashville hot chicken didn't really taste like chicken and the pickles were dipped in a weird vinegar. The tenders also came with four breakfast pancakes...like what? The menu said the Nashville tenders came with scallion pancakes which is a savory Asian pancake...but these were 4 American breakfast pancakes. Bandit also didn't have any butter or syrup...so what the actual heck was supposed to happen to these pancakes-it was just a waste. I remember having this incredible kung pao cauliflower bites here and they said they changed the menu but still had cauliflower. I forgot to ask for them the kung pao style like the appetizer and I ordered them in buffalo sauce-two choice. The cauliflower was so droopy and squishy when I got it. The buffalo sauce only made it worse as none of it was crispy and the whole meal was drenched in buffalo sauce. It was a communication issue on my end for sure, but I also thought it was going to be much crispier and not soggy. The ranch definitely was mixed with water and it dropped off anything I put in it. Our server was a really nice lady and none of this was her fault as she tried to substitute the cauliflower. She was decently attentive and very busy as she started serving a large party of 10 next to us outside on the patio. Unfortunately I wouldn't come back here if someone paid me. I know this is more of a sports bar but for something that was around $75-theres definitely better tasting food literally everywhere else. The only good thing about this meal were the waffle fries which were probably frozen before serving but I'm trying to find the silver lining.
