To begin: hiring Solscapes was a personal recommendation from a friend that I wish I had done sooner. (like YEARS sooner!) I have had several different weekly pool maintenance services in the past who all started off ok, but eventually did not maintain a good level of service or communication. As a single parent, taking care of things around the house and yard can get overwhelming and frustrating at times...to say the least! It is hard to find quality service people.  Coming up on 6 months of service with Solscapes, I can sincerely say I am very impressed with their professionalism. Not only have they consistently shown up each week, they ALWAYS leave a door hanger to let us know that everything is good to go...and they will always follow up if there is an issue. When this company was owned and run by Jeff, the services provided were predictable and professional. You generally could have confidence that if you were paying for pool service, that you would get everything you pay for on a weekly basis: skimming, chemical balancing, scrubbing, vacuuming, dumping the skimmer baskets. Furthermore, the company generally had the same staff doing the work so as a client you had some familiarity and confidence that you knew who was doing the work. Unfortunately, since the company came under new ownership many aspects of this experience have changed and gotten much worse. The staff who come by it seems has changed from week to week. They regularly do not do all of the services that you pay for. One week we observed the tech indiscriminately dumping chlorine and tossing a chlorine tablet into the pool without doing any measurements. This is on top of not skimming the surface, brushing the sides, or vacuuming the bottom -- all of which are services that (depending on your service plan) you are potentially paying for. Finally, it would seem there is no easy way to get on the phone with someone at this company. The phone number listed on the website now leads to a voicemail message directing clients and others to text or email. Are they such a big company that they can't field calls from customers about current issues? I don't know, but I would guess not. So in my opinion the service went from reliable and predictable to borderline negligent and seeming to do as little work as possible to justify the monthly fee. As I write this, I've already terminated my ongoing agreement with this company and have another technician hired. Strongly consider avoiding this company, at least in its current state. read more

Solescape has been servicing my pool for the last 3 years, then without notice they just stopped. My pool turned green and when I reached out to them about it the relayed "due to staffing shortage we can no longer supervise your pool". I understand staffing shortages but communication is key. When Jeff owned this company everything was professional. I could count on his guys being here every week, same person cleaning my pool. Now I don't know if they are going to show, when, or what day. Didn't show Up a few weeks and I still have them another chance. I'm one that never complains. I normally go with the flow. I had back surgery and was unable to take care of my pool. While this review is mainly focused on the issue we experienced during our remodel, Solscapes was responsible for overseeing the work and final product. BLUF: Do not do remodel or repair business with this company (routine service has never been a problem). For larger jobs or repairs I would recommend one of the larger companies with in-house teams. We have a small pool spa in our yard. Solscapes had been handling our normal pool service since we moved about 1.5yrs ago. Our plaster had started to fail so we decided to seek out quotes for pebble. We spoke with Splashpools and Gardner, both of which offer in-house installers and carry a strong reputation. In discussing with Solscapes our desire to have the pool remodeled Jeff, Solscapes owner, asked if I would give him the opportunity to compete for the work as well. Solscapes bid was attractive and Jeff is a very nice and honest guy and again our pool service has been great. I would later learn that allowing Solscapes to use their network of contractors and subs was a mistake. Which is unfortunate as I had been happy with the company's service. From the beginning things didn't go to well. Communication wasn't exactly clear in terms of dates and times when I did get an update it was relayed through 3 people and often times ended up being incorrect by the time they made it to me. I recall at least 4-5 times where I had changed by schedule to be available only to have someone call midday to change the time/day. On the demolition day the team was to arrive early in the day to get started. Instead they dropped off 1 guy with a large, street-parked generator, a few jackhammers and a jug of water at 3pm. When I got home he was still jackhammering away well into the night (7-8pm). Our baby couldn't sleep and our neighbors were not happy. To top it all off the demolition team decided to remove the covers that I had placed over my furniture and pile debris on it. Yes, they uncovered the protected furniture and used those covers to pile hundreds of pounds of broken plaster onto. That mountain of plaster sat in my backyard the entire Easter weekend. Again, not a huge problem, but just seemed not well managed. Also, neither the yard nor patio were covered and I had to spend 2 days picking up chunks of plaster from my yard, patio and playground area. OK. That didn't go well. Perhaps the next batch of subcontracted day labor will do better. At this point I was furious and I left Jeff (Solscapes) know this wasn't a good sign. A few days later the tile guys arrived. They set the tile and left. My wife noticed it looked as if it dipped a little. We relayed that information to Jeff and the tile people returned, furious saying they'd been doing this for 20-yrs it was done correct. They came back, looked at it and left. I'm not sure if it's correct or not as I'm not a pool remodel expert. We'd later see that the either the tile guys or the pebble installers got something wrong as the trim tiles don't follow a consistent distance to the wall or the bench edge. So now that I had gone through demo hell and the tile, well, this is the comment from the owner of Solscapes: "It's not perfect, but as close as anyone could get." At this point I was so far into the project that I'd figure the rest would end up going wrong and in the end I'd have to lean on my JD-holding buddies to file a claim in SCC to get this truly rectified. Well they eventually showed up and installed the pebble. I've attached a photo so you can see the pebble in all its uneven and discolored glory. Isn't it along with the trim tile that doesn't quite follow the curve of the bench just BEAUTIFUL. Sigh. Lesson learned. The folks at Solscapes are nice people, but their expertise and understanding of pools doesn't go beyond checking and adding chemicals. Don't let them do anything beyond that. I also had them replace a motor that went out on my pool pump only to find the huge old motor and piping tossed in my trashcan. Not a big issue but indicative of the type of care and consideration you get when doing business with Solscapes. So after $6,000 (including the new motor) and lots of stress we are finally finished. The spa doesn't look good. Nothing during the process went right. And other then some messages agreeing with me that things didn't go well or don't look correct; there hasn't been an effort to make any of this right. And maybe there is nothing to be done here. Maybe the pool is suppose to be not "perfect" and the discoloring is just "good enough." I would buy that but I went and saw two neighbors who had their pool refinished by Gardner and their finish is uniform, their marker tiles straight and their opinion of the company was positive. Oh well in the end I learned a valuable lesson and I trust that this review will serve as cliff notes for anyone else considering Solscapes and save anyone else in Orange County from the long costly saga of having a pool remodeled with Solscapes. read more

I had a project that was gravel and pavers going from one end of my house around to the other. This project was a memorial to my dad that passed away from Covid. I was told 4 days. It took 14 days. The work was sloppy! The edging wasn't/still isn't straight, the pavers were cut unevenly, they were supposed to remove all of the grass where the gravel and pavers are going and there is grass growing up through the gravel. The gravel was supposed to be filled up to the top of the edging and it isn't. I had to call and talk to one of the owners, who was upset and said they would get it right, he never even followed up to get my thoughts! For this to have been a personal project to me, and for the $$ I paid (in the thousand teens), I would NOT recommend this company! I hope they find the right workers that care about their work because what I got, didn't check that box! The positive is my project manager, Brian, was awesome. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! Both my sister and I were customers. Within 3 months we both got screwed over. Apparently in early August they decided they no longer had the staffing to clean my pool. Ok. I can understand that. The problem was they never told me. I notice late august my pool was turning green. I contacted the company and that's when they told me they are no longer servicing my pool. I asked if they could come clean it at least one time while I looked for a new company and they refused. The damage to the pool cost me $400 to bring it back up to swimming condition. My sister had her own issues which she will be posting shortly. What a great experience I have had with Solscapes! I am a Realtor and I had a listing in Anaheim that had a green pool (with creatures possibly living in it), and an overgrown front yard. I did a search on Angie's List and found that Solscapes does both landscaping and pool cleaning, they had great reviews so I thought that I would give them a try. I am very happy that I did. They brought the water back to blue, they made sure that everything with the pool was up to date, and safe. They redid the front yard, and put in low maintenence landscaping since we did not have a sprinkler system in place. Project completed: Removal of grassy areas with installation of decomposed granite, artificial turf, and flagstone walkway. Service: From the first email to meeting in person to the follow-up after everything was done, Jeff was thorough and took time to answer my many questions. When there were touch-ups needed with the decomposed granite and weeds, Jeff was responsive and took care of the issues quickly. Worksmanship: Jeff has a few men in his team who completed different parts of the project. They were all courteous and made sure the areas were left as organized as possible before they finished each day. It has been about 3 months since the project finished and the work they did is still holding up well. With the few rainy days we've had, all the areas drained well. As for the artificial turf, it too has held up even though our dog likes to paw at certain spots and run on it frequently. Cost: The total seemed reasonable for the amount of work done. I can't say that Solscapes is more or less economical than other companies since I didn't receive a reply from the others I contacted. Jeff and his team met my expectations. Three years ago, when we started with this company, the service was outstanding. Since the company changed ownership about a year or so ago, the service has rapidly declined, the technicians started spending less and less time taking care of the pool. The last time they were there, it was 8 minutes total. Then two weeks ago, the technician did not show up. So Monday, I reached out to the company, without a response. I tried again on Thursday, as we were going on two weeks without a technician, I called, text and emailed, still without a response to anything. If they had reached out initially and said they were stopping service, I could have planned accordingly, however they simply stopped coming and won't respond to any of my messages! To top it off, I looked back at my July statement, to find out that they charged me twice! I have requested a refund of the duplicate charge, however I don't think that they will respond to this either. How can a company just leave their customers high and dry without warning?? Especially when it involves a pool that needs to be serviced! Avoid this company at all costs! read more

Jeff writes in response to my comment that the reason for his price increase, after submitting two previous bids, was for reasons that "would have been clear to any person who had taken the time to review the estimate." If the error was so clear, then why did Jeff submit two bids with the same descriptions and amounts over a period of 3 months without catching that "error". Apparently, Jeff didn't take the time to review his own estimates; not good for a guy who is in a detail business. And, for those who are interested in the details, under the section "Item Code" in Jeff's proposals to me it reads "Pool/Spa Re-plastering". The bid clearly states "Pool/Spa", so how Jeff can state the bid not include the pool and spa makes no sense to me. When he complained, I offered to split the difference in costs with Jeff rather than deal with going through the bid process again; but, Jeff said "No". By the way Jeff, thanks for referencing my name in your response; it is ironic that you didn't want to plaster my pool at the quoted price; but, now you are plastering my name on your Yelp page. read more

Jeff's team did a fantastic job on our front lawn. Our grass had all died out at the start of the drought 2 years ago due to a malfunctioning sprinkler clock while we were out of town. Buy the time we got home it was brown and dying. No amount of water could save it. Finally decided to let it die out, killed off any weeds, and let it go. Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I met Jeff. Discussed the situation with and that we were ready to replace the lawn. He shared his expertise on drought tolerant landscaping, but we really wanted to have the lawn again. This was no problem with Jeff and he provided what we felt was a very competitive and fair quote for the work. Jeff had his foreman come out and take a look at the lawn area and check the sprinkler coverage. On his recommendation I added and extra head to one area to ensure proper coverage. Cali was the foreman and throughout both this visit and the install he was presented a clean, professional and courteous demeanor. He was very patient with my questions and took the time to explain everything that was being done. His crew came out and removed all of the dead sod and weeds. (They also dug out a tree stump.) Then spread top soil and rototilled everything not once, but twice. The installation of the sod was scheduled the next day. The next day Cali was delayed on the initial start time because the supply house where he gets the sod had a delayed delivery. Good to know that they pick up the sod the day of install. It is not laying around in the sun waiting to be old, but freshly harvested and in great shape for installation. Cali made sure to call and keep my informed of the delay and exactly when he expected to be at our house. Installation went very well and Cali and his crew were great. Laying sod is a dirty job and they made sure to clean up all loose soil and clear the walkways or any debris. Cali spent some time with me reprogramming the sprinkler clock and made recommendations on adjusting the watering cycle over the coming weeks to get the lawn off to a good start. Lastly, I received a follow-up call from Jeff this morning checking to see if everything went as expected. I assured him that I was very pleased, that working with Cali was great, and that the lawn looks great. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong using SolScapes for your landscaping needs. read more

When Solscapes started servicing our pool 3-4 years ago everything was great! They returned calls and showed up consistently. They fixed the problems that my old pool company created. Unfortunately, this last year (2021) they sold my route without mentioning anything to me, the next thing I know I was being asked to make my checks payable to another company. That company failed after a couple months, then Solscapes resumed my route. The past couple months we have been having issue with technicians not showing up on a weekly basis. I get it, finding workers is hard now a days, but if your are requiring full monthly payments you should be coming every week. Come to find out from one of the random technicians that did show up, the company was sold again. As much as is disappoints me to write this review I would not refer this company to anyone looking for pool service. As all pool owners know it is very hard to find a reliable pool company. We recently used Solscapes to renovate our yard. A coworker of my husband referred Jeff to us. Initially, we hoped to install a bocce ball court in this long piece of yard which also serves as home to our motorhome. After a consultation with Jeff, he and his landscape architect visited and she devised a plan for us. When we saw the actual cost, we chose a different route. Jeff was quite helpful as we did not know truly which direction to go next. Work began and took approximately six weeks. The men who worked on our yard were hardworking and professional. Jeff consulted with us often by phone, letting us know of any changes or additional information. The final product is better than we imagined. Due to a miscalculation, our final bill was more than we were quoted. Jeff did adjust it some and we are pleased with the final result. We even received a beautiful, unexpected, gift of appreciation in the mail along with a thoughtful note, thanking us for our business. I recently moved into a home with a large, but unruly backyard. I was in dire need of a landscape professional when Jeff was referred to me through a mutual friend. When he arrived for the first consultation, I soon discovered that he did pool work as well. I have an indoor spa that wasn't working properly and needed to be cleaned up. Jeff took care of it in one visit. Jeff also put together a total backyard makeover plan. He was able to incorporate all of the many elements I had requested such as an outdoor BBQ, a fountain, a herb and vegetable garden, as well as reusing some of the current materials, plants and trees.
