Soleil and Suns lives up to its award-winning reputation. There are a few tables in the bright seating area. Service was friendly and fast. The large selection of pastries was mouth-watering. The almond croissant, covered in sliced almonds could have had a bit more almond filling. (I have high expectations for almond croissants and have yet to find any comparable to those in Cohasset, MA.) Fresh coffee was complimentary. The heavenly strawberry rhubarb pie had a nice balance of fruit/vegetable and crust. Check out the handmade reversible children's aprons for sale.

Chocolate Raspberry cake--sooo fresh, delicious, moist, with the most delicious flavorful combo!

I love this bakery and we are SO lucky to have it here in Woodstock! I look forward to visiting every time I come out to the area! Everything is made fresh each morning, with local ingredients, by a baker who truly cares about his products and his community! It truly translates into the incredible quality of the breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, and muffins! Everything is sooooo delicious! Their napoleons are the only ones my mom has ever found to be close to the ones her mom used to make and was known for. My mom was sooooo happy devouring every bite of those napoleons. The raisin bread is full of raisins and incredible. The cranberry pecan bread is out of this world and full of cranberries! The cinnamon croissant twists are so light and flaky yet flavorful! The chocolate chip cookies are amazing! My dad LOVES the scones! The strawberry shortcake cakes are one of our family's all time favorites--so light, fresh, moist, flavors balanced perfectly, and top quality! The chocolate raspberry cake, tarts, mini tarts, and bombs are soooo good--incredible flavor! The chocolate bombs, eclairs, and fruit tarts are always sooo good! The pies are soooo full of fruit you can tell the quality by how heavy they weigh--and then when you take that first bite, heavenly! Everything here is delicious! I love supporting this bakery as they give so much back to the community--with back to school drives, free meals given away around the holidays, free bread given to anyone in need any day, free muffins for those it would help, and free coffee always. I love the new coffee shop vibes with the tables and chairs, and Jamie behind the counter is always super sweet, efficient, and attentive. This is the best bakery I've ever been to! If you haven't been here yet, I highly recommend it!

Stopped here upon recommendation from a friend in the area and now I've been twice! I'm a sucker for good bread... first time, got a loaf of roasted garlic/ cheese/ black pepper (simply incredible flavor!) and recently got asiagio bread and a loaf of cinnamon raisin (pro tip: place asiago in oven so the cheese gets melted and warm!). Cinnamon raisin has been a nice addition to my breakfast-- sliced and froze it to eat at my leisure! Also had a zeppolle.... this thing was heavy with filling and delish! I plan to stop in every time I'm driving thru, in hopes of more delicious food!

An excellent place for a pastry! They also have homemade bread of all kinds and basically every baked good you can think of! They have won Best Bakery 10+ years in a row! The customer service is excellent, and the atmosphere is great too. The owner Bill is a great guy as well as a hard worker and gives back to the community. If you haven't been to Soleil & Suns Bakery, it's a must-try!

I give this bakery five stars just for the fresh smell of homemade bread as soon as you walk in the door. Wow! You will have a hard time choosing what delicious morsels you want because I all looks and is so delicious. Choose well my friends. Don't forget to get the cannoli's! I ate mine before I could get a picture of it. Best cannoli EVER! Boom! Anyway God bless all my fellow foodies Always

You either have to park in the lower lot, or stop in when walking the shops. Some of the flavors are unique. Lately I'm stuck on Ube, which I was told is Phillipino eggplant. It has a slight chocolate taste to me. Again, there's so many flavors there that you can't get or find at any local ice cream stand or shop. Best part is they're open all year round, so this isn't seasonal. They do have a freezer unit that has many products and flavors that they carry, in 1 pint containers to take home. They have what was a store front window display area where you can sit and enjoy, while overlooking traffic going by. If you're going to eat at any of the area restaurants, don't eat dessert there, but instead come here. You won't be disappointed.

While we were there someone came in asking for a bourbon flavor which unfortunately he was out of but I did get the Kahlua flavor which I would absolutely recommend. We went pretty late on a Wednesday so there was plenty of parking and seating but I understand from my parents, who have gone many times, that it can get pretty busy. So plan accordingly.

Alamode Specialty Foods - Cross section of their excellent eggplant parmigiana

    (17 reviews)

"I'm all yours Put me to the test…read moreLove is my specialty" (Roberta Flack) It's hard to say what Alamode Specialty Foods clearly specializes in, because they have quite a lot of special treats everywhere you look on their shelves and inside their display cases. Want some examples? Of course you do, or you wouldn't be reading this. Cookies, muffins, pastries, beverages, bottled sauces and condiments, candies, nuts cakes, grab and go entrees, soups, meat pies, a deli counter, sandwiches, snacks, plenty of deviled egg varieties, breads and bagels, and to top things off, how about 30 or so ice creams? We had a blast checking out this cool little country store in Connecticut's quiet corner. We bought a hunk of Eggplant Parmesan from their deli ($10.95), a pint of spicy chicken corn chowdah ($6.95), two singles scoops of ice cream (PbB Banana and Mayan Chocolate) at $5 each, and a big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant ($4.95). The total was $32.85 before tax. We split the Eggplant for dinner, and I can attest that it was excellent. It was a big portion, piled high of very tender eggplant slices in a marinara sauce. Eggplant can be a tricky food and it can turn up tough and rubbery from time to time. But not here. I had the Chowdah for lunch today. It was loaded with corn, carrots, potatoes, and quite a lot of shredded chicken in a creamy broth. I was disappointed by the lack of spiciness in a dish advertised as spicy. But I'd get that missing spice very soon. The ice creams were very good but were on the expensive side for $5 a single scoop. When I ordered the Mayan Chocolate, the super friendly young lady behind the counter wanted to be sure I knew it would be spicy. Well, she was right about the spice; it had an undertone of chili peppers that mixed very well with the cold chocolate ice cream. But spicy rarely bothers me, so I thought It was awesome. The only bummer we had in our grocery bag was that big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant. It wasn't exactly fresh and was quite brittle and crumbly in places. But it was big, and the center of the pastry seemed a lot "fresher" and softer. That portion was quite good. We had a very enjoyable visit overall, and I can definitely see repeat visits to Alamode in our future.

The bench seating was very comfortable, though some of the tabletops were pretty tall and all wood, so maybe not the easiest to sit at for a while. The restaurant has an extensive menu, but when I saw the pitmaster section I knew I had to try some of that. As an appetizer there were potato skins with pulled pork. Wow, these are not the wizened, come from a frozen box, potato skins. These were large, brimming with flavor and cheese. From the pit was brisket and ribs. Each came with corn bread, one with fries, the other with mac and cheese. Corn bread, so good, nice grainy texture, not a baked sugar slurry like you can find elsewhere, up here in the north. The brisket is super tender, doesn't need much sauce because it's packing all that natural and smoke flavor. The ribs are not dainty. You're going to be getting in here with your hands, like proper ribs eating. I'm so unused to that, and it resulted in me bringing half the rack home because a half rack was so filling. The edges of the ribs were dry, but all the interior was pull apart tender and delectable. Again, only needing a touch of their homemade sauce. The fries were robust but still crispy and seasoned well. The mac was the only miss for me. Too toothsome and not much flavor. Because they also do wood fired pizza, I got a cheese with ricotta to go. I'm not sure I ever need their pizza again. The crust was thin but not very crispy except on the cornicione, which had a lot of herbs sprinkled on it. The sauce disappeared, flavor wise, and so did the cheese blend. Side notes - I know everything has gotten crazy expensive, but the prices here took me aback. $16 for three pieces of bacon? Also, the 10% military discount was only applied to my ribs, but nothing else, so I'm happy they have one but it may only be applied to your food and non alcoholic drinks on Tuesdays and Fridays during their specific windows.
