Sweet spot! Great products and bakery. I went in starving after a 30 mile bike ride and came out with the best sandwich of my life, and at my age, that's really saying something: It was cranberry walnut chicken salad on sourdough with lettuce, tomato and pickles. Also a dill pickle, chips and hosmer root beer. I just died and went to heaven. The sandwich was so large that I'm saving the second half for the twilight concert at the pink house tonight. You can ask them to make a picnic for you to go. It has a lovely outdoor dining area as well. Check this place out!!! read more

"I'm all yours Put me to the test Love is my specialty" (Roberta Flack) It's hard to say what Alamode Specialty Foods clearly specializes in, because they have quite a lot of special treats everywhere you look on their shelves and inside their display cases. Want some examples? Of course you do, or you wouldn't be reading this. Cookies, muffins, pastries, beverages, bottled sauces and condiments, candies, nuts cakes, grab and go entrees, soups, meat pies, a deli counter, sandwiches, snacks, plenty of deviled egg varieties, breads and bagels, and to top things off, how about 30 or so ice creams? We had a blast checking out this cool little country store in Connecticut's quiet corner. We bought a hunk of Eggplant Parmesan from their deli ($10.95), a pint of spicy chicken corn chowdah ($6.95), two singles scoops of ice cream (PbB Banana and Mayan Chocolate) at $5 each, and a big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant ($4.95). The total was $32.85 before tax. We split the Eggplant for dinner, and I can attest that it was excellent. It was a big portion, piled high of very tender eggplant slices in a marinara sauce. Eggplant can be a tricky food and it can turn up tough and rubbery from time to time. But not here. I had the Chowdah for lunch today. It was loaded with corn, carrots, potatoes, and quite a lot of shredded chicken in a creamy broth. I was disappointed by the lack of spiciness in a dish advertised as spicy. But I'd get that missing spice very soon. The ice creams were very good but were on the expensive side for $5 a single scoop. When I ordered the Mayan Chocolate, the super friendly young lady behind the counter wanted to be sure I knew it would be spicy. Well, she was right about the spice; it had an undertone of chili peppers that mixed very well with the cold chocolate ice cream. But spicy rarely bothers me, so I thought It was awesome. The only bummer we had in our grocery bag was that big Cinnamon Swirl Croissant. It wasn't exactly fresh and was quite brittle and crumbly in places. But it was big, and the center of the pastry seemed a lot "fresher" and softer. That portion was quite good. We had a very enjoyable visit overall, and I can definitely see repeat visits to Alamode in our future. read more

Stopped in Alamode after a golf round at CT National. A good selection of breakfast and lunch options. The steak calzone was huge and delicious - plenty to take home! Bagel sandwich also yummy although liked the calzone more. A little slow to get food out but it was a busy Saturday afternoon. Can't forget a scoop of ice cream to close out the meal! read more

OH MY! Just visited for the first time and it was a serious struggle to not go home with lots of treats. We had just had lunch elsewhere, but if I had gone here with an empty stomach, I could have done some financial damage. Instead, I reeled it in and got myself a Lemoncello Ice Cream and WOW! I'm still thinking about it. I've never had an ice cream like it - never. Absolutely amazing. The staff here are all so friendly, the inside of this store is adorable (has some cute seating to relax inside, or a lovely, rather large outdoor space to enjoy as well). It's worth a leisurely drive if you're trying to find somewhere a little different to try something a little different. Love it here! I can't wait to go back (the boozy ice cream must be paid in cash and we were lacking the cash - otherwise, I think I would have tried one of those!). read more

My son and I were passing by here after a long car ride and I asked if he wanted a slice of pie or ice cream and he said yes. When we walked in- we were greeted promptly by everyone! My son settled for one scoop of vanilla in a waffle cone and he absolutely LOVED the ice cream! I tried it and it was DELICIOUS! I should have gotten a cone! I couldn't help myself when I saw the baked goods- so I got a slice of the turtle cheesecake to go! The shop had Boozy Ice Cream- which looked pretty good as well- they also offered sandwiches and premade dishes, as well well as cinnamon rolls, donuts, cheesecakes, etc. This place is adorable! This place is a hidden treasure in Connecticut! Small but filled with prepared foods or fresh sandwiches made to order! The girls greet you with a smile and ask if you have any questions! Delicious pastry and muffins fill the glass case ! The coffee is so good. We shared a small sandwich and enjoyed a soda along with a shared Hot fudge sundae. Definitely left with a full and happy belly ! Good assortment of all their offerings! I love this little market, with it's homemade ice cream, pie, and other delightful treats. So many delicious, homemade baked goods it's hard to choose, from pies to doughnuts (cider doughnuts too!) to a Granny Smith apple walnut cake and that's just to name a few! Try a sandwich on one of their croissants, or an Italian grinder for the best deli counter lunch around. Lots of local treats and artisan goods available as well, because this local business supports other local businesses. What really stands out is the service. There is a warm welcome when you walk through the door. The owner is nice and responsive, always helpful and willing to answer questions. The staff... well the staff will make you smile. A group of young adults provide attentive and pleasant service, so polite and friendly! If you are one who feels young people aren't willing to work hard and unable to provide quality customer service, I suggest a visit here because that will restore your optimism.
