I'm one of those people who orders a dozen shoes from Zappo's hoping to find a cute comfortable pair only to return all of them sometimes. I walked in to Shoes on Solano during a sale years ago, and found my go to shoe, the Sole Terra Camdyn Flat. I can walk miles in these shoes! They are cute with both pants and skirts. I'm on my 4th pair. They last a long time because they are so well made. Colors rotate - you can always get black - but I'm hoping they will make the red ones again. Sole Terra Camdyn Flat is designed and produced by Shoes on Solano. This is the only place you can purchase these awesome shoes. read more

Great service! Needed size 14 shoes & they quickly located a pair of at their other store & had them available a day later.

Exceptional service and friendliness. Wide variety of high quality shoes. Calming place to go when trying to find the perfect new shoes.

I like the idea of a comfort shoe store but the styles are not attractive at this store. I would spend money here if they tried to get things in that were stylish yet also comfortable. Things like that are hard to find but they do exist. read more

Always a look out for good quality shoes , I either love the design or I don't . I love shoes that are well made with style and comfort and I am always on flats and wanted something more dress up then my flats, walking shoes etc. I had walked past this store several times in the past and seen shoes that have caught my eyes and boy am I glad that I took the time and ventured in. I do have my favorites though ,like Ecco shoes , Cole Haan , Brooks, Sacony, shoes that don't break the bank and last for a while . Now I have found a store that sells shoes with great customer service and are run by Women . Styles that I can wear to work /office and leisure . I highly recommend this store and they do have another branch in Walnut Creek . I chose the brand Sole Terra from Spain for this time and looking forward to try more styles from this store . read more

I had a notably positive experience shopping here. Really nice, helpful employees and good shoe selection! They focus on comfortable and stylish shoes. I left with three pairs. :) read more

I had absolutely no plans on growing up but, it's kinda out of my hands at this point. And one thing I'm beginning to recognize is that as we grow and mature from young tenderonis into the fine wine that life makes of us, we start to prioritize differently. Part of that means taking care of things we've often taken for granted before the wisdom of a lil' age was bestowed upon us... Things like what you wear on those friggin feet, bro. Ten years ago, I would summon my inner Kameron "I've got heels higher than your standards" Westcott and parade around in a pair of pumps clearly designed by shoe sadists with little regard. But nowadays? Catch me strollin' into Shoes on Solano to make better, comfier, smarter and less masochistic choices about my zapatos. Trust me, I didn't arrive at the decision to stop wearing detrimental devices of my own volition. When I stopped in for the first time, I was less than thrilled about the prospect of comfortable, functional and practical shoes. Flash forward to being warmly greeted by Emmalee and Milani, two amazing sales associates who quickly educated me on the designed-in-house darling pairs that the retailer is well-known for. I quickly started to gain confidence in the importance of wearing shoes that don't damage your stance-age. Milani and Emmalee both went out of their way to explain the benefits and blessings that were bound to come my way as a result of my all-growed-up decision-making. By the time these lovely gyals were through with me, I was beyond through with any pair that didn't ascribe to my newfound tenet. I'll be back, y'all. And I'll be wearing a pair of Sole Terras, not a pair of stilettos. Thanks guys! read more

A shoe store that focuses on comfort and style? SIGN ME THE EFF UP. They got the full range of shoes that are stylish, but don't wreck havoc on the feet. From booties, to wedges, to clogs to sandals; they have it all. It's a small store, so not a crazy amount of shoes, but a nice variety and even some styles that I would never wear, but I think some people would get down on. I ended up getting a spring style of these super cute Dansko clogs at about 25% off in August, and it seems that they may always have a few styles on sale. Staff was super nice, they have a frequent buyers program and overall, I'm a happy camper! read more

I bought a pair of shoes that were incredibly squeaky when I walked. I brought them back outside of the time store policy would have allowed me to return them in hopes that Shoes on Solano would help me send them back to the manufacturer. Emmalee was really wonderful, gave me a full refund, and said she would follow up with the manufacturer. Thank you for your thoughtfulness, Emmalee. read more

Today the customer service associate, Candy, was just so so nice! She brought out multiple sizes for me and was just overall so attentive and polite. The store had hand sanitizer and even free masks all around. I had never walked into this store before and I'm so glad I decided to walk in! Plus I got a cute pair of Danskos for a bargain! read more

I've always hated shoe shopping because of that great divide: comfortable or cute? It was always one or the other. But Shoes on Solano has changed all that for me. I bought shoes there last week and both pairs have turned out to be just as comfortable as they seemed to be when I tried them on. And I've gotten compliments on them. I tried on 5 pairs of boots, water proof and regular, and every pair was stylish and completely comfortable. The salesperson who helped me, Ronnie, was very friendly and helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the sizing and design of the different brands they carry. They don't carry any shoes that are cheap or cheaply made but they also don't seem to carry any shoes that aren't extremely comfortable and attractive. Unless I move from the area I'll probably never shop anywhere else for shoes -- except running type shoes, which they don't carry. read more

I wouldn't normally go all the way to Oakland for shoes, but I was looking online for a store that carried mid-range and higher-end, comfortable-but-not-ugly shoes, and I found Shoes on Solano. I haven't been to their Berkeley location (though now I plan to) but I checked out their new store in Oakland. The staff all seemed friendly, but I was specifically helped by Tamsin. She was super helpful, and knew a lot about the different shoes they carried. The store was clean, their stock seemed well organized, and the whole experience was positive. I think I'll be coming here every time I need shoes from now on. read more

The best shoe store ever! I have a pair and I love them dearly. I'm a teacher and I'm on my feet all day.

Today I went by Shoes on Solano and once again Emily was there to offer supreme class service. I remember going to this store one time before and having her help me. She is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to shoe sizing and comfort. She will not let you leave until she makes sure you got a comfortable shoe on that looks great. She's been employed at this store for what seems like years, so much that a gentleman came by today to buy socks here and remembered her help. There are some people who leave great impressions, and give quality and passionate service, and this one lady does it all. Luckily too this shoe store's great selection on comfort and cute shoes will not let you down ladies! Highly, highly recommend this shoe store in a cute side of town of Berkeley and definitely definitely go see Emily for the purrrrfect fit. Thanks once more! read more

The best shoe buying experience in several years. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful staff. Plus, it was lotsa fun. Got what I needed and ended up wanting. The bonus? The store manager resolved a post sale dilemma, unrelated to the staff. Going back for more, someday. read more

The staff are usually friendly, but they def should've sent Victoria (or maybe her name was Veronica) Home cuz she smelled incredibly toxic, to the point that I could smell the alcohol when she wasn't even talking to me. She was clearly very hungover and didn't seem to want to be helpful, so I will try and avoid any future interactions if I see her there again. The rest of the staff is great though. read more

Great selection of shoes/boots that are both comfortable and attractive. The staff are attentive and helpful without being overbearing. My new favorite shoe store, and they carry a particularly awesome brand called Samuel Hubbard, which I haven't seen anywhere else. Check them out! read more

Great selection of stylish shoes for those of us who have difficult feet. The staff are knowledgeable, and they always seem to have my size. If they don't, they will order the shoes and send them to me. Also a nice selection of purses and wallets. read more

How exciting one of my favorite shoe stores opened up in Oaktown! Woot woot! Same amazing shoes, same incredible customer service. I literally could go in and just hang out with those people all day trying on shoes. They carry some of my favorite lines- Dansko, Earth, gentle souls and of course Clarks. Believe it or not Clarks has such fashionable shoes that I can actually wear all day at work! Love it. They know my size, always help me with my decisions on what lasts longer, looks better and feels the best by their experience and most of all they are patient. This store is even nicer than Solano because I can go with the kids and bribe them with ice-cream right next door! Ha! If you're looking for a great local family business to support, shop Shoes on Solano- College! Welcome to Rockridge guys! read more

I have very finicky feet and can only wear shoes with a rigid sole through the instep, removable footbed and 1/2" heel. The feet make me suffer when they don't get what they want, so whenever I go into a shoe store, I scan the room and make a beeline for the most promising-looking section. Once there, I quickly check the footbed and flex the front half of every shoe with a 1/2" heel, rejecting almost all as unsuitable. Unlike most shoe clerks who don't know what to do when faced with this bizarre ritual, Myranda recognized my behavior for what it was and promptly steered me to the only three shoes in the store that met my needs. I bought 2 of the 3. Myranda was not only knowledgeable about the attributes of all the shoes in the store, but also gave me practical tips on how to help my shoes last longer. Unlike most other clerks, she removed the foot beds before bringing me shoes to try on, so I didn't have to wrestle with them, and offered a smart solution when I was between sizes of an otherwise perfect pair. The store has a good returns policy: you can get a refund or exchange if you return a pair within 2 weeks as long as they aren't worn outside. Most stores only give you a week or 10 days, and some will only give you a credit, not a full refund. Another bonus: there's a frequent buyers program. Buy 5 pair and get a $25 credit of your next purchase of $100 or more. My feet and I will be back. read more

This is a great store! I ahop at alot of stores like this- ie comfy shoes plus bags and socks- and this has the best selection by far! A really great buyer is bringing in the most stylish designs. I felt so at home in the store especially with Emmalee and Candy's help, two super friendly, sharp saleswomen. Thank you and I will be back!!! read more

If you're looking for a place with great customer service combined with a wide variety of cute and comfy shoes, this is the place. Tamsin helped me find a pair that support my exceptionally high arches, have soft foot beds and are both light and flexible. But the bonus is that they are stylish enough to wear with a skirt. I bought this pair in taupe, but I think I may have to buy the black ones as well. read more

Great store! My wife is pretty challenged to find shoes that are comfortable for her, but Myranda gave superior customer service and she helped us find 2 pairs that we purchased. We'll be back! read more

I love the shoes here - they are comfortable, stylish and supportive! The best are the "house" shoes - the Sole Terras. These shoes are like pillows for your feet. Big thanks to Emmalee for showing them to me and helping me try on so many different styles and sizes! I almost got the wrong size for the Sole Terras because they were so snug, but Emmalee is like the foot whisperer and she just KNEW what my correct size was. I now have 3 pairs of shoes and they all fit perfectly (and I've been wearing them for a couple months now)! These are definitely the most comfortable shoes I've owned, and my feet are very happy in them. read more

I finally ventured into this store, and was surprised to find comfy, stylish shoes in the SoleTerra store brand. It happened to be a sale event, so I got them for a bit less. The shoes are very comfortable, even moreso than Munro brand Although they are not made in the US, they are crafted in Portugal, the arch support is wonderful and the soft leather seems durable so far.I found the saleswomen to be great, very helpful and well informed. Looking forward to the next sale! read more

A good place to buy sandals for women. Store has extensive selection. Store personnel were very helpful to my spouse.

Came in the other day for some advice on insoles and inserts for shoes that weren't quite fitting well. I was helped by Emma and got all the information and help I needed and they were super patient and sweet! Thanks Emma! read more

Giving three stars because the selection was good. I have been meaning to check this store out for a long time. Emmalee "helped" me, although she seemed very disinterested in doing so. She no recommendations, after i told her i need a high arch support. I was advised to "look around" Left feeling that the employees weren't trained very well to help with foot problems. read more

Came and bought dansko lucilles yesterday--one of the only stores that has them in stock to try on which is super important! The two amazing ladies were so helpful. Forget their names but I will definitely be back read more

Edited my rating after the owner made the situation right, by refunding my purchase. Thank you, Carol.

This is my "go to"store when I want a superb help at finding just the right shoes for what I need. Miranda is a super star, very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. She KNOWS shoes and directs me to what I need given my challenging feet. I am NOT an easy shoe customer because I have several foot issues. I highly recommend Solano Shoes, you will not be disappointed. Every pair I have bought there has worked really well for me because of their expertise. They have many brands and styles available! read more

Went to Millenium for Sunday Brunch and ate a bit too much so decided to walk around to burn off a few calories (as if that's possible). Stumbled upon Shoes on Solano (Oakland) and was very impressed with the selection of shoes available. Many of my favorite brands are well stocked in the medium sized shop. Victoria was very friendly and helped me locate a few styles that could accommodate my highly challenged feet. Best of all, she pointed to a pair of shoes that were on sale (and she correctly guessed my size) and voila, they fit me perfectly. What a great find. I was looking for comfortable yet stylish shoes, surfing countless websites but with no luck. It was serendipity for sure when I stepped into the shop, which I now labelled 'feet comfort zone'. I will definitely go back to look for more styles in the future. Thank you Victoria for your wonderful help and your patience in dealing with my 'incorrigible' feet. Victoria and Tamsin created a warm, friendly and cozy atmosphere for customers to try on the shoes at a leisurely manner. Great job, ladies! read more
