Roof leaked, they fixed, still leaked, I had to fix it. Poor job in electrical panel caused burned wires and electrical fire in main panel. They refuse to even come out and look at it. I live in the wood streets in riverside and discussed starting a solar installation on my house about 3 months ago. While the team there is very friendly they just do not call back. They promise a lot but the follow up is lacking on their part. To this date I cannot get an answere if this installation is going to happen am not sure what the miss is but I am still waiting for info from anyone there. I got the system based on Yelp ratings but beware I got the system and afterwards was not able to monitor my power generation because they said there was line noise that in order to get fixed would cost me additional $335 dollars. They never said that this could be a possibility only that I could monitor my system with an app. Also if you have a two story house they don't have a ladder tall enough to run the electrical along the roof ease and had to put it on top of the roof. Which is not as aesthetically pleasing. Many other houses with same floor plan in my neighborhood didn't have to do that with their solar. RUNNNNNNN.... Went to a USC game and spoke with the rep and gave them a call. Spoke with a sales rep Mario and he seemed like ..."a sales rep." Kind, caring, a good listener and anxious to make a sale. Having a 0% interest rate for 5 years was a huge benefit with respect to it's competitors, I moved forward. Quickly I was approved with financing, and the process moved forward. I got rid of all competitors I was considering and was in bed with Soar Max. The process began to drag and Mario...was no where to be found. I called several times and he would often tell me there working on it. I asked if we would be done by Halloween and he indicated "Absolutely." They continued to have changes and the price went from $18000 to $24000 and by mid November I called only to be told that financing had reconsidered and would not finance the deal because of an ex gf and I could pay cash. I've been a customer since 2013. Horrible and rude customer service, the sales rep quit a week after I signed the agreement. So when my roof leaked only 3 years after installation, I had to call several times to get a response because i was told they have high internal turnover. They ended up telling me that "no additional warranty were provided by Solarmax" after installation. Had I known, I would have reroofed prior to getting solar installed. Now I'll need to pay thousands more to un-install then install the solar panels. I will NEVER recommend nor use them again. read more

Worst customer service ever. I signed my agreement April 2012 over a year later in early 2014 and the installation was still not complete. I had to call them every day for weeks on end to get the work completed. It took so long I missed out on one of my rebates of over $2000. The work performed was sub standard, they left tons of garbage on the roof, I had to go on the roof afterwards and pickup all their empty water bottles, used caulk tubes and other construction trash. My gutters were full of other debris, wire clippings, nuts and bolts, packaging material and other junk. read more

Watch out dishonest business There sales / consultant BO Peng dropped by saying he wanted to use our house as a model and give us free panels. I asked what the catch was, he said no catch they are free. So long story short he lied to us and wanted to sign us up for a 20 year lease starting at 17 cents a kW with a 2% per year increase. Not free after all. Fortunately another solar company was canvassing the neighborhood at the same time and offered a better rate and a shorter contract, and hey they were up front and honest. read more

Jacob was my first point of contact and was very patient explaining various questions and concerns along the way, Anthony was a terrific account manager, and Joe and his installation team were able to customize our installation expertly. Starting with Jacob in Sales, to Anthony in Account Management, Accounting and installation and the LADWP could not have been better. It is important to be patient as SolarMax Tech first designed the system for our specific home, reviewed with me, then got all the permits, scheduled the LADWP to initially inspect the wireing, got all the appropriate permits and then installed our system. The experience with SolarMax has been a very pleasant one. We invited 4 solar companies including Solar City for installation proposals back 2 years ago. We carefully reviewed each proposal, and we decided to go with SolarMax because they gave us the best value and overall experience. The installation process took about 8 months, mostly was due to the design and approvals from city. The installation was completed at the end of April, 2014. As part of the installation, SolarMax replaced all our lights with LED bulbs. This is more than $1000 value that comes with the installation for free. They also installed a monitoring program that we can track production performance. Now it is my new hobby to check how well the production performs on a daily basis. Right after the installation, we can see that our electricity consumption becomes negative. It is an amazing to see that for the very first time. From that point on, my electricity bill goes to zero. SolarMax service is very good too. They have various teams that came to my house for different things. They came in at different phases of the project, including inspection, design, rail installation, panel installation, power Inverter connection, production monitor installation, etc. They are all very professional, and pleasant to deal with. First off Jeff Downs was great to work with and was straight forward from the beginning. He actually stole my business from another solar company by throwing in the panel upgrade which the other company tried to add onto the bill. I was initially going to use the hero program to purchase my system but got a better monthly price with their in house financing. After months of researching solar companies, panels, and system sizes I made my decision to go with the thin film panels. Jeff was able to get me a hell of a deal and told me I was this was the first thin film solar panel system Solarmax had installed. The good - Jeff was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. From the permits to getting the PTO it took about 6 months. Inverter is placed facing south with no protection from the sun. After reading reviews the inverters do not perform at their best when placed in direct sun light. I contact Jeff and he sent out a team out but they didn't do anything. I'm to busy with work and school so we shall see how it operates when the triple digits come to the high desert. I would feel better if it was in the garage or had some kind of protection. My overall experience was pleasant, however the system wasn't installed in the summer when we needed it the most. Mike Sousa was our consultant who was our go to person from the very beginning. What I liked about Mike was his honesty. From the common names like solar city/ peterson dean to the small players in the game. And prices all over the chart! But me and my wife are in the sciences and the go green movement! So we wanted solar in our home, yet we did not want a eyesore on our new home. Jake was the last solar quote for the day. He came personally to our home (many would just call with high pressure sales pitch) Jake was very calm and understanding that we are in a new home with no utility usage. He was very conservative he said a 4k system should be ideal for my wife and I with out many fish tanks. But I wanted a large system to plan for the future not the current situation. He did not say no! He helped me understand the panels the inverters and placement layout. We were very particular on how we wanted the installation to be and mainly no tubes and wires all over the house that looks like 100% aftermarket corner cutting job with panels a foot off the roof, tubes all over, as we seen with solar city installs. He gave a very fair price right off the bat and was'nt a high pressure type salesperson like all the other companies, which was greatly appreciated. We've had our SolarMax system installed for about 2 months now and we couldn't be happier. Our sales rep, Brandon, was on top of everything and in touch with us every step of the way, making this an unbelievably stress-free process. My only regret is that we didn't do this years ago, but like most people we assumed that solar was too expensive and too much of a hassle. Boy, were we wrong! We put no money down and financed the entire cost of system for 10 years at 4.9% and will end up paying almost $100 per year LESS than what we paid Edison (and that was before the most recent rate increase). Here's a rundown of our SolarMax experience: Sales - Brandon met with us late on a weeknight in order to accommodate my husband's crazy work schedule (something other companies weren't willing to do unless we secured our financing first). He went through a year's worth of our SCE bills with us to analyze our usage and put together a couple different scenarios for us to evaluate. We ended up going with a system that will meet or slightly exceed our annual usage. He went over all of the financing options and helped us complete the paperwork online in less than 10 minutes. Finance - Unlike all of the other solar companies we dealt with previously that use the HERO program, SolarMax does their own financing. SolarMax's rates were much lower than HERO, their application process was faster and they do not have a pre-payment penalty like the HERO program does. Brandon took care of almost all of the financing paperwork for us so we really didn't interact much with anyone in Finance, other than to sign documents via DocuSign. All of the docs were very easy to read and understand. Our first bill arrived about 30 days after the final inspection and my only complaint is that they aren't set up for automatic payment, so you have to either mail a check or set up billpay through your bank. When I called finance to ask about this they assured me that they are in the process of getting set up for auto withdrawals. Permits/Design/Ordering - This was the longest part of the process, mostly because we live in San Jacinto and they tend to take forever and a day. It only took about a week for the design team to email us drawings for approval and once we signed off on them they went to the city for approval, which took close to 30 days. The only snag we ran into was that the panels we were quoted on were backordered, but SolarMax quickly solved the problem by upgrading our panels at no additional cost to us. Installation - Took 1.5 days from start to finish. Both the roofing crew and the panel installation crew were great. All of the guys were very friendly and worked well with each other. They showed up right on time at 7am and worked so hard in the 100+ degree heat. There was not one piece of trash or debris to be found when they were done. Monitoring - A couple of weeks after the panels were installed the monitoring crew came by and installed the online monitoring system. They were able to set up the system so that it's both easily accessible to us yet out of the way. We can monitor the system by going online or via the Enlighten app on the iPad. The system is also fully integrated with our SCE account so when we log on to their site we can see our net usage (and our negative bills!) I know what you are thinking why call a solar company for a leak in the roof? Well the reason I decided to call Solarmax was due a recommendation from a friend who has had Solarmax panels installed on his home a couple of years back. My friend told me that Solarmax repair some of the existing issues on his roof prior to installing his solar panels. Solarmax informed him that they had their own in-house roofing department. So I figured since my friend was happy with the work they did, I thought it was worth a call. When they came onsite the roofers were very professional and knew their stuff. They came out on a Monday to look at the roof to determine damage and provide an estimate. On Monday they told me they could come out on Wednesday to repair the roof and went over what they were going to do. On Tuesday morning I received a call from Solarmax asking if they could come out Tuesday afternoon to perform the repair since they had a cancellation and now had guys available. They came out and completed the repair in a timely fashion and not only did they fix the problem spot, but they found some other cracked tiles and replaced them at no extra charge. Sergio Ramirez, my consultant was responsive, listened to my needs and concerns and developed a plan and design that was perfect for my home. I have a south facing home with a large lot. After speaking with several solar companies, each of them tried to sell me something different (panels on the front roof, panels east, panels west, ground mount etc). None of them could figure it out until Sergio and SolarMax came by. After consultation with his designers Sergio suggested a patio cover structure with solar on top! Brilliant solution! After spending about two months researching PV solar and getting estimates from seven solar installers, I chose SolarMax. Another company that was more local was my first choice but when I visited their facility, it was a real dump. I would not trust them to be in business until the end of the month much less long enough to honor a 25 year warranty. The SolarMax facility in Riverside is large, clean, modern and impressive. I believe they have about 200 employees, each a specialist in their specific duties. No subcontractors there. Surprising to me, in spite of having such a facility and specifying name brand, high efficiency equipment for my system, they were the most inexpensive. The preparation for the installation took longer than I expected and there were some snags but each problem was ultimately dealt with according to my satisfaction. In my experience with contractors, that is seldom the case. To be fair, I am very picky and also wanted some special features that would not normally be a part of a standard installation. The system is now installed and operating as expected. Between SolarMax and SolarEdge (the inverter and optimizer manufacturer), the system's operation and capabilities have been thoroughly explained to me. We had Solar Max Technology install a 5kW system on our roof a little over a year ago. We were initially impressed by their salesperson's presentation, and the fact that federal tax incentives brought the final price down to something we could afford. Solar is not cheap if you purchase outright as we did, but to see an electricity bill under $2, month after month, makes it really worthwhile. At that rate we'll see the system paid for in advance of the projection that our Solar Max salesperson predicted. Our installation was a bit more complicated than the typical one, as we insisted on an inverter with an emergency outlet that could run our fridge during the day in case Edison's grid crashed. I don't know how useful this really will turn out to be, but it was an option at no additional charge so we went for it. The crew(s) that did the work were professional, cleaned up daily after themselves, and when the whole project was finished they walked our roof and replaced any broken tiles, whether they were a result of the installation or not. (Our roof has those light, cast-concrete tiles that break if you look at them sideways.) It's a real pleasure to pass by our electric meter and see it "running backwards" a lot of the time. Edison is like a big battery now. We take from it when we have a heavy load (A/C, etc.), and charge it up the rest of the time. As I said, our biggest bill in the last few months was $1.70. To avoid the nuisance of writing checks and mailing them, I sent Edison a lump sum that should give us a credit through the end of the year. read more

There's some pretty long posts here. I'll keep mine short. I've been wanting to go solar for awhile. When the Solar City guy hit me up at Home Depot I said OK to a visit. My sales rep was a little too pushy and the price seemed a little high. I wanted to purchase but he only knew leasing options. Then I went to a seminar at the OC Register and learned a few things but mostly got a bunch of cold calls from vendors. A friend had just had his system installed by SolarMax and I called his rep Andrea. She came over, walked around, looked at a year's worth of Edison bills, made some calculations and presented me very attractive price. Its really that simple. With the 30% tax credit, my system will have a 5 year payback IF ENERGY COSTS DON'T GO UP. As if that will happen. I liked Andrea. Down-to-earth and not pushy. She said 6 weeks and the system was completed in 5. Smooth sailing through the city of Fountain Valley. Constant contact through various stages of the job. Great back office staff that handled contracts and progress payments. Day one was the roof crew who set the rails. They were neat, clean, polite and did good work. Day 2 were the panel installers and electrician. Again neat, clean, polite and they did good work. I'm a ex-electrician so my guy had a constant, interested onlooker as he bent pipe and pulled wire. He did a great job worthy of any journeyman electrician. Now I'm waiting for Edison to convert my rate schedule to the NEM (Net Energy Metering) but its fun to watch the meter point backwards (meters don't spin anymore). If you get someone on the phone they tell you to talk to someone else, but that someone never answers the phone or calls you back. I have made about 10 attempts to get an answer on when a referral check will be issued to no avail.
