Went here last Saturday with a group of friends. Great place for a big group - a little loud but not as loud as some of the Portuguese places in Newark. Food was fantastic. We started with Sangria - yum! For appetizers we shared some stuffed mushrooms, calamari and Spanish sausage. The sausage was best - a little spicy and a bit like kielbasa. For dinner we got a whole bunch of things - paellas, tuna, garlic shrimp, filet mignon, stuffed sole. I had seafood over pasta in white wine sauce which was a delicious combination of mussels, clams, shrimp, lobster and scallops. It was heaping with seafood. Everyone enjoyed their meals. They were huge portions so most of us had a leftover for the next day. We didn't have room for desserts although the dessert tray looked really good. This is definitely a place to try. Ate at a Portuguese restaurant in Boston that was delicious( see prior review if you go to Boston). I was so excited to find this place that has great reviews. Quite disappointed. I believe the people that have this place 5 stars probably knew the owners or the staff. It is more like a social hang out place especially if you're single. First of all we where placed in a small corner by the emergency exit . Completely covering the exit,which is not safe at all.First impressions of our waiter Manny was horrible.No welcoming,no greeting he asked what we would like to drink, I asked what do you have. With a snippy horrible ,attitude he replied "Whatever you want !" Shortly after we received our drinks and bread .. we ordered our meals. The Rodizio was not worth the money we spent . They did not come back to the table to ask if we would like more meat .I felt stalked because he was watching everyone like a hawk .. very uncomfortable. The food is pretty good. It is NOT AMAZING but definitely good - like a 7/10. Last time I went was Saturday for dinner and I got the Rodizio. The guys that walked around with the meat were very very nice, but the older "gentleman" (which he was not) was SO RUDE!!! He was the oldest one there and the only one with a white shirt. He took our orders and you could see he obviously didn't want to be there. Once we asked for the check (since we were left alone for quite some time), he came and pretty much tossed it on the table and walked away. Once I placed the cash in the folder - he came and snatched it up off the table and went to the register, made change and put it in his pocket. There was no acknowledgement of a (22%) tip, no thank you, no visit to see if everything was up to out standards or if we needed anything. If he would've looked up or at the table for a second, he would have seen that we needed a to-go container. Not until my co-diner pretty much barked at him to come over, then he came by and got the container. As I was leaving, I mentioned to the girl in the front that he was VERY VERY RUDE and she told me they've gotten a lot of complaints about him. Why is he even there? I went there to celebrate a birthday. We all got there at 7:30. Ordered around 8 and did not get the food by 9. When we asked why it took so long, Manny, replied that it was because we did not all come together. Moreover, when I asked for a desert menu, he told me that I needed to wait for everyone at my table to finish their pineapple strips to see it. He also gave a frustrated response when we divide the check. First, the food was great and, second, Manny's way of treating us was bad. Never argue with the customer. I've been going to this restaurant since 2007. The service varies, between regular and terrible, never excellent, except for the kitchen staff which is wonderful and respectful. Some of the waiters like "Many" amongst others are terrible. Most of the male waiters and bartenders are, the guys with the Rodizio are great. I believe that this restaurant because of it's good food, could be the best if they fire all the current staff and start fresh, with people that are respectful and nice. People that value regular clients and new clients is what this place needs. This place is not cheap, so the service should be 5 star. First time here and brought my kids...thought my GPS was broken since it is a little off the beaten path. This was the first time for my kids eating at a rodizio and they loved it. If you order the rodizio you will get fries, rice, black beans and plantains. Only tried the plantains and fries and both are very good and not greasy. Would absolutely recommend the lamb, filet wrapped in bacon, cheese roast beef(yes...it has mozzarella cheese in the beef), garlic beef, pork tenderloin and the skirt steak. Loved the smokey flavor on the meat. If you like Sangria it is a must have. By far the best I have ever had. Overall this was a great experience from the food and the atmosphere. This has a great vibe and will be back. My only criticism is that it was a bit cold in the dining room. read more

I have been to Solar a number of times and while I enjoy the food and sangria, I find that it is best to avoid going to this restaurant during the weekend. They get extremely crowded and the service and quality of the food tend to suffer. It also can get really loud and hard to hold a conversation. With all that said I still very much enjoy Solar and their food is delicious. read more

Came here Saturday 3:30 PM with reservation was seated right away not busy at all person that brought us to the table asked what we wanted to drink, ordered the red sangria when it came my wife looks at me and we both agreed one of the worst most watery we'd ever had pitcher filled with ice as well as the glasses. The came the app's clams abulhao Pato were done right very tasty sauce very good, caldo verde toó creamy but the taste was good, then came the main dishes my carne de porco alentejana (pork and clams) not a good choice the pork was dried with no taste at all the sauce was more like a regular gravy clam were good. My wife's paella she described it as a so so rendition and she would know she order it every where we go. Then last but not lease our waiter Manny amongst the worst we'd ever had came over didn't even say hello drop the paella on the table and walked away as well as the sangria didn't come over to our table see how things were I guess he knew and didn't want to ask and then disappeared as well as the other guy it felt as if we had been dropped in the middle of the dessert well we found another waiter and he brought the check we paid and left very tired from all the effort of trying to be understanding of all the failures this place showed to all the people that give it four and five stars I guess they are a lot more condescending than me. read more

ate here a few years ago courtesy of a groupon(rodizio for 2 for I believe approx. 1/2 the current price) knowing we were going to sample a lot of meats we skipped appetizer we were served approx. 10 different types & at a decent pace; the problem was (& this includes my dining companion as we have similar tastes) 3 were good, 3-4 were blah & another 2-3 were one bite & hope no one is watching you spit it out you get a bit of a guilt complex leaving virtually untouched food on your plate so we ate more of the "blah" then we would have. another problem is unless you have a BIG appetite you quickly fill up so the large dish of rice & thick cut potatoes was barely touched. we did try a couple of desserts standard nothing memorable as far as parking we just parked on the hill around the corner & walked 100 feet when asked we were told no doggie bags--it would have been appreciated had we been able to take some home considering how much they must throw out every day(I'd hate to think they would served 2,3 day old reheated meat; that's only something you do with your own food for a lunch, etc) so disappointing the experience that I wound up selling my other certificate for face value read more

This place was good but nothing to rave about. The price is about the same as any other brazilian rodizio place. There were 2 in our party. We both got the rodizio. The food was just ok. The meat took a very long time in between to come out. As if they wanted you to get full off the all you can eat bread, rice, and fries. I must admit, the red sangria is AMAZING! I am very picky with sangria and they have one of the best that Ive had in a restaurant. BUT if you are going for the rodizio then go to Rio 22 in Union instead. I think there is another one in Newark. Another thing was my bf waited such a long time for chicken hearts and when he finally got them, a half hour later, they were OVER DONE..so upsetting. Prefer white sangria than red. Small pitcher still seems too much for two people. Came for skirt steak on clay tile but no on Easter menu so had to settle for Baby ribs which is also good. Thanks to the reviews here, we went last Sunday. We had the Rodizio, which was among the best we have had. The service was excellent with very accommodating waiters who seemed pleased to provide us with the meats we liked done at the temperatures we each preferred. I also have to recommend the Sangria. Not only was it plentiful, it wasn't overly sweet or diluted - a rarity these days. The layout is a little odd with two rooms that are not connected except through the entrance way so if you are a large group, I would suggest calling ahead; I am sure they will make you comfortable. Some people commented that the 'hood was a little dicey, but it really isn't bad and with valet parking, you never have to leave the entrance way. For sure, we will be back! read more

I have been here many many times, mostly for birthdays or anniversaries, and have to say the quality has gone downhill in the last few years while prices have gone waaay up. I still love the food, and think the sangria is the best in town, but we have cut down on how often we come by simply because of the high prices. Mind you, if we still got the same amount of food for higher prices, i would be fine, but I have noticed the dishes getting smaller....I used to order the seafood in parsley sauce. which is served in a little caldero pot, and it used to overflow. But around the time of the Gulf disaster, I noticed the amounts dropped by 1/2. I assumed when things got better, the sizes would go back up..but no...the prices INCREASED dramatically and the smaller serving sizes stayed and this is how much later???? So that is very disappointing. Even the rodizo prices have increased a lot. Not worth it in my opinion, but my husband really likes the meat-says it is not too salty like some places we have gone to. I do love the grilled pineapple at the end. Sangria is always great. So is the food quality (not the quantity). I usually get the seafood in parsley sauce but have tried other dishes too and they are all delicious. I do like that for their dessert menu, they actually bring out a tray of the desserts so that you can see them and choose that way. I am VERY visual so this works marvelously for me. I will add one more positive thing; My aunt is a PICKY eater. So difficult to take out and yet, she LOVES the food here. She was a big fan of the chocolate mousse-flavor and presentation, and still raves about it. I have never had an issue with the service, but then I like to not be rushed, so if they are a little slow I do not generally mind. It does get crowded around 7pm on weekends, but we usually go around 4pm for an early dinner and have never had an issue. All in all we will go back, but I wish the prices would settle and stop crawling up. read more

This place is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!!!! Would have been worth going the extra few miles to the Ironbound. Soup tasted like it came from a BAG (Food Service - NOT HOMEMADE), the Bacalau was BLAND! How can a salt cured fish be bland? The service was even worse! Dragging our table aside to make room for another table behind us as we're eating, then making me get up from my seat because it just wasn't enough room, again WHILE I WAS EATING (Fork to mouth), while spilling the overpriced wine all over the table. They even, somehow, screwed up the wine and 7-Up, a Portuguese favorite, by service room temperature well wine and having the audacity of charging $6 for a small glass. ARE YOU KIDDING!? You can get a huge mug of this Down Neck for $2. Sad to say, spent $90 on dinner that I didn't even eat and had to hit a drive thru on the way home. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLACE! IT SUCKS!!!! If you want good Portuguese food, you have to go Down Neck Newark. There is no comparison to the food down there.
