I wanted to treat my husband to a Pedicure and Solace was convenient and close to home. He had missed our last appointment at our regular salon as he was out of town so he was due. They happened to be running a special - I believe for Father's Day - for a more upscale pedicure at a cost of $70 which I found a bit high, but heck, he's worth it! They were able to take him right away on a Saturday mid afternoon. He was offered a glass of wine while his feet were soaking which was a nice touch. He enjoyed the pedicure and massage - actually stated the massage was one of the best he had on his feet and calves since the technician put some muscle behind it and was not rushed at all. The pedicure also included a scrub and paraffin wax treatment. He was happy with the entire service except the callous removal. I was shocked to find out they had used a razor on his feet. I was under the impression that VA licensing laws prohibited this due to sanitary reasons. Additionally, he had cuts on his feet from the razor. His feet were tender for a few days, but thankfully no infection. Three stars for the service he received, but I would caution to watch what they use on your feet for callous removal. read more

I've been a customer here for years and it's gotten progressively worse. Let me start off by saying the staff is excellent but the management is lacking. Many times I have come in to be seated for a pedicure, wanting to be pampered by a simple cup of coffee or tea. Nothing. Never stocked with different sweeteners or different teas or sodas. The next big concern is the appearance of the spa. Water use to cascade down the back wall and it was a nice soothing sound while you were having a pedicure and a manicure in the spa. The water hasn't been running in years and all you smell is mold which I'm sure is a health hazard for the customers and not to mention the staff which breathe that stuff in everyday. These prices are high and the spa experience that should go along with those prices should reflect the same quality we are paying for. If this was my spa I would also make sure that the spa was detailed clean. The vents and lighting in the ceiling are dusty and have cobwebs. Shelves in the front displaying products for purchase are dusty and dirty and have been there for years. Some pedicure chairs don't work, it's just dirty! It's apparent all the money customers are paying are certainly not going towards refreshments and spa upkeep for the patrons. Very disappointed !!! read more

I completely agree with the previous poster on how this salon is unnecessarily 'snotty'. Their services are very average. As I entered the salon, two women were sitting in the reception area talking and one of them (Mary) didn't even acknowledge me until after 2 minutes. She noted my details and told me to go to the back for my mani pedi. From there the technician took over and she asked me whether I was doing gel nails. I stated I only wanted the regular mani pedi. She continue that it'll chip really quickly so I should do gel. Again I politely stated no. AGAIN she asked are you sure. Two minutes later she said I should get a callous treatment to which I declined. Once again she pushed me to do the treatment as it would be very moisturizing. Again I declined. She didn't speak to me after that until she was done. The mani pedi itself was just normal. It cost $42 but the massage chair didn't work and the staff weren't friendly at all. Oh also, if you enjoy hearing two people getting their hair blow dried whilst getting your mani pedi this is your place. I couldn't hear myself think throughout the service. Do not waste your time or money here. I have been here a few times with dissatisfied service most of the time. I went here to get my hair done last minute, as my regular place was booked, they kindly told me I could make an appointment the following day. I said yes to the appointment because it was all I could find, however that only left about three hours for a color change (I told them I was in a schedule, and they said it wouldn't be a problem). The following day I got there less than ten minutes prior to my appointment, the lady at the front desk informed me the hair dresser was running late but would be there in a few minutes. They offered me a water and I sat down....for ALMOST AN HOUR. I, only having this place to do my hair before having to leave for Richmond, was frustrated to point where I wanted to leave. Every time I asked the lady at the front desk what was going on was told "just a few minutes". After she finally arrived, I was expecting the best damn hair I'd ever seen. Once again, wrong. It was done very poorly, she ended up making my hair an uneven brown AND after offering to cut and do a protein treatment for free, did an hack job. While getting my nails done, (a different visit) they filed the top of my nail down to the bed, which caused pain for the next week. read more

I always love going to Solace for my nails! The spa pedi is sooooo relaxing! I wish they'd offer more specials as it's a little steep compared to other surrounding nail salons but you can't beat their atmosphere! It's very inviting and even sip a glass of wine while relaxing in the massage chair. I took my girlfriend for her birthday and used Jenny and Kim. Went for a hot stone massage. I've had a lot of these at dozens of places so I'm comparing against the 'average.' Solace has an easy to use online booking tool which is great, and asks you for specifics of how much pressure you want and any key areas to focus on. It also requires you to choose a specific masseuse. At check in, the receptionist seemed surprised that I asked for a masseuse by name, as someone else was prepared to do the massage, which was fine by me, but it would make sense to train the receptionists on how their online booking system works. The masseuse did not introduce herself, so I'm not sure who I was with, just that it wasn't Hally. In the online tool, I'd asked for a 3 out of 4 possible pressure levels (medium-high) but the massage mostly stayed in the 1-2 level. The masseuse didn't seem to have a particular technique, at least on the back, where it just felt like random finger motions, with no emphasis on the places where different muscles meet each other or bone. The hot stones were body temperature - I actually had a hard time discerning between them and the masseuse's palms. I almost laughed when the masseuse asked me if it was too hot. The oil used was often cold to the touch; I'm not sure why they don't use something to heat it up. No check-in during the massage about whether things were working well. Typically at 80% of places they'll leave hot stones on your back while they work on your legs and vice versa, but that didn't happen here -- though the stones weren't hotter than body temperature, so I don't think that would've made a difference. So a lot of negatives. But there were also positives. The staff including the masseuse were very friendly. The facility is very clean and has a nice relaxation area between check in and massage with soft spa music. Lovely changing area. About 80% of the space here is dedicated to manicures, so that's likely their area of expertise. But they need a lot of training in the massage department. read more

First time at this Nail Salon. Very soothing and different type of nail salon. The nail tech that I had did a great job on the pedicure but when it was time for the massage she had one hand on my leg and one hand on her phone. I'd never been to a spa before but my husband had bought me a Mother's Day package months ago from Solace Day Spa and I finally found time to use it. Solace was able to get me in on the same weekend that I called for a four hour spa package. I had a facial when I first arrived and it was INCREDIBLE and extremely thorough. I can't decide if the facial was better or the one hour massage. I really needed relaxation but had no idea what to expect with my first professional massage. I was BLOWN AWAY. I felt at complete peace. Afterwards I got a mani pedi. Needless to say my nails look FABULOUS. I got my feet dipped in wax and was even able to trade out my "signature manicure" for a manicure using gel nail polish. I made appointment for a Mothers Day message and wanted a pedicure also and was told I didn't meet to reserve a time for the pedicure and to just come in 2 hours before message appointment to allow for enough time. I show up and am greeted by the receptionist telling me they are booked up and to come later. I asked how long the wait is and that I had a message appointment in 2 hours which means I can't do both later. I said I cad called and was told I didn't need an appointment for the pedicure so why are you now saying I can because your booked up. This is the second time this place has messed up plans for service. I am done with the HORRIBLE customer service here! There was no attempt to understand or apologize or make right but cold empty "There's nothing I can do we are booked up." WHY tell your customers one thing over the phone and they screw up their appointment plans on the day of? As if we all have all day to sit around waiting ? What's the point of a reservation? I was lucky my husband was able to have the day off so I could, for the first time in years, have some papering time away from kids and work. I took my daughter here for an eyebrown wax before Prom 2012. It was her second eyebrow wax, but first at Solace. They double-dip! Apparently they take the stick with the wax on it, put it on your brows, then dip the same stick into the wax again. If they do it over and over, eventually you get contaminated wax. Contaminated wax invites infection and irritation. And that is exactly what happened to my daughter. Double-dipping is a sign of poor procedures, poor hygiene. We will never go back. read more

I would never go back here. I had a deep tissue massage and facial. I get massages weekly at another place in Gainesville but my usual massage therapist wasn't available and I had a huge knot that could not wait. That said, I wish I had not gone here. The massage was horrible and the facial was fair at best. The worst part was when I was checking out the girl at the front desk was super rude and unprofessional. She was doing math homework and acted as if I was bothering her. She even started saying equations out loud. I am giving two stars only because I enjoyed my facial. This was my first experience with Solace and I gave them a try as birthday presents for my parents whose birthdays are a day apart. I called to book a couples massage followed by facials for them and a facial for me. The person making the appointment had a hard time understanding what I was asking for and then when someone called me later to confirm the appointment, they too were confused as to what I requested. I am not sure why, couples massage and then 3 facials. When we were on our way to the appointments, I received a call stating the person who would be doing my facial was going to be 45 minutes late due to traffic (Even though my appointment was at 1:00 on a Saturday afternoon). I waited in the small waiting room out front while my parents went back for their massages. I immediately noticed an open Tupperware container with fried chicken wings sitting in the display with all the for sale hair products along with a half drunk cup of coffee. I said to one of the employees that someone had left their food and she said "oh that's just us" and moved the container to another ledge two feet away. I then noticed there was popcorn all over the floor and a bag of food on the ledge as well. Three employees then came and sat in the small waiting area with me filling the only other 3 chairs and began chatting loudly, eating chicken, playing on their phones and knitting.(I have posted pics hereto in the photos section - if you zoom in you can see one of them had even removed her shoes) I immediately regretted not checking Yelp first and wondering what kind of experience we were going to have for which I was about to pay $400. Another employee then called me back and showed me the ladies dressing room and my mom was still back there. A MALE employee then opened the door to the dressing room and called me into the hall. Luckily, we were dressed but I was quite surprised that he would just open the door of the ladies room. It was quite awkward. I went into the hall for him to try and up-sale me to pay more for the massages for my parents. This was what was so important to call me out of the dressing room. As it turned out my facial person wasn't there yet so I was sent back out to the waiting area to sit with the knitting, eating and chatting employees. My parents enjoyed their massages but opted not to have the facials. The salon is pretty but it is run horribly and epically unprofessional making me feel I had spent upscale spa money on a lower end salon. read more

I recently won a $100.00 gift certificate to the Solace Day Spa. I called and made an appointment for an hour facial. This spa is beautiful! I was greeted at the front door by a lovely receptionist and not too long after my arrival, my technicial introduced herself to me and gave me a tour. This place is pure luxury....There is a steam and shower room that you can visit before or after your appointment at no additional charge. I wish the receptionist I had booked with had told me as I would have arrived earlier! My facial was really wonderful and I have had MANY! Thank you Christine! I'll start by saying I am a picky customer. Julie did my pedicure and it wasn't good. She was rough and sloppy, her tools hurt my toes, and her massage was too aggressive. I went here last minute on New Year's Eve for some services and was pleasantly surprised. Got a Pedicure done first. The ambiance is great and relaxing. Not sure who I had, but she did a really good and clean job. Second, got a haircut. Had Humaira and she is wonderful. Was friendly and spent time on the shampoo massage and made sure I was getting the haircut I wanted. It is a little pricey - I have had same type of service for less, but it's good to know that if I don't get an appointment at my usual place, I can always go to Solace. My husband bought me a 90 massage as a thank you for packing our whole house for our move to VA. Last week I really hurt my back so I booked an appointment. My massage was wonderful I felt so much better it was amazing. My masseuse was Joe and he was excellent I give him 5 stars Unfortunately the desk told him it was a 60 min massage instead of 90. I told the front desk that it was 30 min short and the hesitated saying no it was only about 15 min short not realizing he started later than my appt. He had already left for home so they weren't able to talk to him. Unfortunately they also charged me for the wrong massage that was much more expensive than the one I got. The next day he called to check on me and see how I was doing and to apologize for the mix up and starting late. He was so sweet to have done that, I didn't blame him it was not his fault. I give him 5 stars 2/5/16. The owner called after reading my review and apologized for the mix up. They offered me a 60 min massage to make up for it. They went above and beyond to make things right. Coworkers and I went there yesterday. She had been there before and had a great experience. Bottom line is, we were Not! relaxed as it was suppose to be relaxing. They rushed the whole process. You felt like a number more than a customer. I know its a business and all but if your customers makes an appointment you should take that time out and focus on your customer. I also didn't love the hair color I had done there, again, especially for the price. Kristy is absolutely the best at gel and gives an amazing pedicure! I was in yesterday and was so relaxed the whole time.
