I hate posting negative reviews for businesses but I cannot shake my extremely disappointing experience with Sokhim and alterations for my bridal dress. Sokhim came recommended by LovelyBride where I bought my Emmy Mae dress. Because she came recommended by the shop and Sokhim had good Google Reviews, I drove 1+ hour each way to see Sokhim and paid a premium $$$$ price for a job half a**ed. In sum, I would never go to her again or recommend anyone to her. TLDR (longer version below): I paid $$$$ for the alterations, but my dress was not altered to fit my body and landed wayyy too big on my hips. In addition, the poor fit to my body the fabric did not lie flat and pulled/wrinkled to one side. I had to scramble to find another seamstress to fix Sokhim's work days before my wedding. More Details: For the first fitting, Sokhhim was easy to schedule with (I called 4 months in advance) and explained to me where she would need to alter my dress. The two main areas for alterations were my hips and the rib cage area. For those wondering, my dress was a spaghetti strapped dress fitted throughout my bust, hips, and thighs. Five weeks later, I went to Sokhim for my 2nd fitting. During this fitting, she did a great job in the rib cage area. However the hip area was too big and also pulled/bunched to the side (should have been flat against my body). I asked her about this, she indicated that I needed room to sit because the fabric did not stretch but that she'd take it in a bit more. As to the bunching, she said once I put on my shoes the bunching would be minimized -- this was not true and bunching was a result of poor workmanship. At the end of the 2nd fitting, she did pin down the sides of my hips again to take it in and I should return in 1 week. One week after my 2nd fitting, I came in for my final fitting; this was 7 days before my wedding. First, when I came in for my final fitting, Sokhim was busy - she had two other parties already there and I felt rushed by her to try on my dress and get out the door. When I tried on the "final product", it did not seem to have been altered in the hips like she indicated she would do at my 2nd fitting. It still ran large and I asked her about it -- again, she gave the same excuse that the fabric did not stretch and needed to leave room to sit down... I questioned again but she insisted it was the right fit. I took the dress and tried it on again that afternoon at home -- I was SWIMMING in it (sent videos/pictures to a few friends and they agreed it looked too big). I'm not a seamstress but it did not seem to be altered to my body. I was stressed out because this was 7 days before my wedding. I rushed to find another seamstress for a second opinion (perhaps Sokhim was accurate in that the fabric had no stretch and i needed room to sit??). Thankfully, I found someone in my hometown to take a look for me. Upon trying on the dress, the new seamstress immediately commented that the dress was too big in the hips and the lining needed to be fixed so it would lay flat on my body. The new seamstress was able to take in 1+ inches ON BOTH SIDES. I asked the new seamstress about the sitting situation, she said I would have no problems once she took in the dress. Four days later, I got my dress from the new seamstress and it fit perfectly against my body. I feel extremely lucky I was able to find someone to fix Sokhim's poor quality work. Frankly, I'm shocked and disappointed by Sokhim's alterations. She charged an extremely high price and therefore I expected a high-quality outcome. Unfortunately the results were subpar. I completely wasted money going to her and had to spend more fixing her work. Picture below showing how large my dress was after I received it from Sokhim -- I could literally pinch a large chunk of fabric and this is only on one side -- I could pinch the same amount on the other side of the dress too. read more

She was kind enough to see me and help me with my dress as my sister's wedding is next Saturday! She was super helpful and made it so easy for me. Sokhim is a true expert in her field. She came highly recommended to me, so I made an appointment a few months before my wedding. I had purchased my gown at a rack sale and it was 2 sizes too large. The only problem is that my wedding dress was as about ornate as it comes, with intricate beading and hand work throughout the entire upper half. Sokhim explained to me that in order for the dress to be taken down in size that she too would have to replicate this "by-hand work". To my surprise she did exactly just that with providing additional shape to the bottom of the dress so my silhouette would look the best. At my next fitting, my dress fit perfectly and looked like the original sown dress. She even made sure that there was enough room in the "seat area" for me to easily sit and stand.
