TLDR: Multiple mistakes, delays, poor communication, sloppy, rush job I had so much hope for this place with all the positive reviews. I should have read more into the negative ones before using him. A suit to me is an investment and it's really important that tailors take their job professionally. I came in to The Bespoke Clothier after doing some research as I needed a suit altered for an upcoming wedding. I had 2 weeks before the event which I felt was plenty of time for the job. I made an appointment with Gabriel for a consultation to look at the suit and discuss timing and needs for alterations. No real dressing room, just a closet that you can change in. He looked at my suit and made recommendations for the sleeves to be taken in and shortened and pants let out a bit on the waist. I also asked about adding surgeons cuffs with functional buttons. Gabriel mentioned that it's really easy and they do that all the time but they charge per button. Understandable I said and agreed to the pricing. This was Tuesday and was told that the alterations would be complete by Friday. A busy Friday for me meant a pickup on Saturday which would have been perfect as their posted hours on their website says: Saturday 9am-5pm. When I arrived on Saturday to pick up the suit, the lights were out, door locked and a note posted saying "Flexible Hours" this week and to text a number. I texted the number which replied that they would check with Gabriel on timing and they would communicate back to me a time for pickup. No response through Monday evening and by Tuesday at noon, I was getting a little concerned about lack of communication and timing. I decided to call on Tuesday afternoon and Gabriel picked up and told me the suit will be ready by 3pm that day. I arrived at the shop at 3:30pm with the pants ready and the jacket looking disheveled and unfinished with the buttons popped off one of the sleeves and arms way too long. He said he thought I needed the sleeves lengthened and he marked it incorrectly. He said this is an easy and quick job for the jacket and it will be ready tonight. I decided to give him more time to do a good job and said let me pick up tomorrow afternoon. The next afternoon comes and the jacket looked fine but I noticed that the buttons were not functional. He said he didn't take the correct notes and thought I didn't want that even though I was charged extra per button. Again was told that it was an easy job as he does this "all the time" and he would be the one personally making the functioning buttons. Again was told he could do it tonight and I again gave him extra time to do a nice, clean job. The suit was ready with functioning surgeons cuffs but the workmanship was really poor. Also one of the buttons for the interior pocket was missing. The cut and sewing lines were really sloppy looking and the thread for the buttons were not sewing inside the lining, leaving the button thread visible on the cup to lining. I'm not sure if Gabriel just over promises and has to rush through everything but i think he knows better. Overall a stressful situation being almost a week overdue, multiple mistakes and a seemingly rush job to finish. At the initial meeting, Gabriel was also trying to sell me a custom suit which I was seriously considering at the time. Unfortunately this soured my experience and mindset that he would be capable of making a full bespoke suit. read more

The Bespoke Clothier completely changed how I think about fit. If you have a hard-to-fit body type, you know how disappointing even "altered" clothes can be. I brought Gabriel a designer suit that still didn't feel right after store alterations. He was pretty honest--said the best it could become was a 7/10--and then went to work. He adjusted the shoulders, chest, sleeves, lapels, which required him to move every single button. It was literally a completely different suit. And for the first time, it actually fit the way it should. Since then, I've gone back for five custom suits, multiple shirts, and my favorite, an overcoat (which I'd avoided for years because of off-the-rack fit issues). I've been looking for a place to get a proper suit made for a while. I consider myself a difficult fit -- my chest measurement is at least 10 inches more than my waist. My posture is very upright and that just makes the chest issue even more difficult. There aren't many places in the US outside of New York that do real bespoke -- patterns cut from scratch. I'm glad I found Gabriel. He has a great understanding of classic men's style and proportions. The suit he made for me is very comfortable and continues to get better as the canvas takes the shape of my body. I keep looking for areas to make micro improvements for my next project with him. But to be honest, the fit is so good I'm not sure there's much to change other than experimenting with other styles, like a double breasted. I plan on commissioning something from him every year as long as I stay in Washington. The super tight, short jacket with the bum exposed, with skinny lapels was trending for a while on off the rack clothing. Even some made to measure places make suits like this. If you are looking for a suit to wear for the next 10 years, I encourage you to give Gabriel a try and have him make something timeless for you. read more

Extremely disappointing and frustrating experience that seems to be in line with other bad reviews I have found here. Bottom Line: Lack of communication, failure to meet deadlines and terrible customer service. I called Gabrielle at the beginning of June to see if he could make a suit for my wedding on August 17th. He said of course, no problem. After an appointment and measurements taken he let me know he would reach out when it was ready to try on. After hearing no word from him I called in mid July and left a message. He called back a few days later and said the suit would be ready to try on before the end of July. After hearing nothing at the end of July I called multiple times over a week with no answer, each time leaving increasingly more concerned voice messages. On August 7th feeling desperate I made an appointment on his website and drove out to Bellevue to from Ballard to see if I could reach him in person. He was not there when I arrived. I talked to a business down the hall who said he had been in during his usual hours the past week. After waiting for 45 minutes he did finally arrive. There was no suit ready and he was unclear about if work on the suit had begun. He listed off many reasons for not having the suit ready including a sick mother and daughter with Covid. He said he had called all his other clients to tell them about the circumstances, but forgot to call me. At this point I would have just preferred to get my money back and find a suit off the rack, but after asking for money back it became clear that was not going to happen. My expectation given such a blunder would be to first take ownership of the mistake and then knock something off the cost of the suit - neither have happened. He just gave excuses and only after a lot of pushing and arguing offered to drop the suit off at my house to save me a trip. Fingers crossed that he shows up Monday (3 days before I have to leave for my wedding) with a suit for me. read more

This tailor is a blatant and unabashed racist. He said I was "dark like an ----ole". I have all of this on video too, so feel free to contact me for more information. He refused to tighten the sleeves of my shirt and started laughing at my request. I have gotten my sleeves done (the exact same request) at different tailors, with no issue, and at a cheaper price. Egregiously unprofessional. I told him I will find a better tailor and he told me to "get the ---- out of my store". That's when all the name calling (he was swearing without limit and that's when he got racist) and arguments took place. I shouldn't need to have a shouting match with a tailor. If this guy is able to stoop down to this level, I wouldn't trust him with my clothes for sure. This guy is a racist, I do not recommend this place. I wouldn't want anyone else treated this way. My first review for Gabriel was a long time ago and I failed to provide an update. Almost four years later, I now have 3 suits, a tux, a sports coat, an overcoat, 9 shirts, and, soon to have, a trench coat from Gabriel. I've moved clear across the country (to the Southeast) and I haven't even thought twice about continuing to work with Gabriel despite the need to deal with long distance shipping and longer wait times given the slower nature of cross country logistics, timing of fittings, travel for those fittings, etc. All these pieces did take time from beginning to finished product, so it's important to go in with the right expectations that you won't have your bespoke piece ready to wear a week from when you order it. I get loads of compliments from strangers and feel like I'm wearing a suit of armor any time I'm wearing one of his pieces. Be warned, you'll be spoiled and won't be able to go back to off the rack clothes! I have many more ideas for my next piece and look forward to continuing to work with Gabriel for years to come. 15/10 would recommend! read more

We had ordered a custom made suit from another shop, but were sorely disappointed as it showed up late with only 2 weeks before our wedding, and was the complete wrong color. They did not give us the option to fix their error, so we looked elsewhere. That's when we found Gabriel! In response to his comment: He never mentioned anything about having an appointment to pick up my suit. Even though he got it done TWO DAYS before my wedding, he had initially promised two weeks before my wedding. What if I had picked up the suit for it to require more alterations? He put it off for too long and waited until I kept pestering him and told him how urgent I needed it. Pretty sure he started and finished the same day I picked it up. He also tried to charge me more than what he quoted. Luckily I kept my ticket with the quoted price. I called Gabriel 3 weeks prior to my wedding to see if I can get a suit altered. He told me to come in and they will measure. All that was required was pants shortened and sleeves of the suit. I was told two weeks and it be done. So two weeks passed I called him and asked about the status of the alteration. He told me the next week, I was very patient and was ok with it. On the third week (week of my wedding) I called him on a Wednesday and asked if he had a status on the suit.he ignored my question and told me it be done the next day or two(now I'm worried). As patient as I was I told him please get it done next day because i have no clue where your at with it or what was going on. Instead of being up front with me he if avoids my question and tells me it will be done, then hangs up. At this point and I am very stressed out. The next day, Thursday, I called him multiple times to see if it would be done that day, of course instead being honest about his situation he told me end of day. By that time I had enough of him pushing the time. On top of that he had to ask me which suit was mine and which color. I realized he had not started on it at all. All I needed was some honesty, its my wedding and he is getting my suit done last minute when there was plenty of time. I understand he busy but if he just told me up front what was going on with my suit instead of avoiding my question or constantly hanging up irritated, things would t have gotten complicated. He could have told me he won't be able to get it done or too busy, that way I wont trouble him and he won't trouble me. I've made suits and other clothing in several places around the world (Beverly Hills, Hong Kong, NYC). Gabriel' skill at attention to detail tops the value received from any other tailor I've worked with. He's easy to work with, amenable to change, and everything he crafts is tailored on site. I was unsure at first. So, I only bought two cashmere wool blended slacks along with three heavy cotton dress shirts. The attention to detail in each garment was both practical and luxurious--even down to the loop at the front of the slacks to assure the belt buckle stays centered. I really wanted to like this place. It's a small tailor shop filled with fine fabrics and the allure of high end tailoring and bespoke suits! Then I picked up my fully canvassed suit that I asked them to tailor... That's when things took a turn for the worse. I tried on my jacket and there was bunching below the neck. When I asked Gabriel (the owner) about the bunching I was told it was "because I was looking to the side". I asked Gabriel to take a picture of it, and he never did. I continued to complain as the jacket was obviously not done correctly. Gabriel then told me it was bunching up because "my shirt was too big and causing bunching" so I took off my shirt. Now I am standing bare-chested with the jacket on and the bunching was still very obvious. Now that I'm half naked, Gabriel attempted to fix it (acting annoyed). During this process Gabrielle told me I was wrong. He told me I was a difficult customer. He yelled at me. He even told me he was going to call the police on me! He did everything EXCEPT fix the jacket. To top things off, only a week after picking up my suit some of the stitches he had done began to fall out (see photos). I ended up having to get my suit tailored AGAIN somewhere else. I asked for a refund as I did not feel like I was being treated fairly and was denied. The only positive thing I can say is that Gabrielle makes beautiful button holes by hand. Overall I was extremely disappointed in my experience. The Bespoke Clothier might be able to make a suit from scratch but know very little about how to tailor an existing suit or treat customers. read more

I've been a customer of Gabriel's for 6 months now, and I wanted to wait until now to write this review so that I can rate his work across the variety of services he provides and over an extended period of time. I've used Gabriel for the following services so far: - Custom made tuxedo - Custom made suit - 7 custom made dress shirts - Tailoring existing shirts/suits I recently moved to Seattle from Chicago where I've become accustomed to wearing suits on a daily basis. Off-the-rack just never worked well on my body (I'm 6'3" with an athletic build) so I've always had my own tailor. Here's the thing - if you're going to spend your hard earned money to look good, you better be spending it with someone you trust will do a great job and, more importantly, will stand by his work and never settle until you walk out satisfied. Gabriel is that person for me. His craftsmanship, experience and knowledge shines through in the biggest and smallest of details. I'm also a true believer in you get what you pay for. If you want a $300 suit, then you're going to get something that is really worth no more than $100. Cheap fabric, cheap construction, and will probably start falling apart after the first dry clean. Gabriel uses a full canvas in all his suits and never cuts any corners during the construction process. Whether you want him to create you a suit or shirt, you pick out the fabric and specify all the details you want - for suits that includes: lapel type, lining, pick stitching, pockets, functioning buttons, etc., and for shirts that includes: cuffs, collar, buttons, etc. --- and of course, most important of all, THE FIT! Gabriel takes all your measurements before the process, and several more times during the construction, and then makes adjustments if needed at the end of the process. All around 5-start service and quality. If you're serious about what you wear and how you look, Gabriel is your guy. *my husband purchased one 3-piece bespoke suit (jacket, vest, pants) and one bespoke shirt for our September 2016 wedding. *in summary: GABRIEL is amazing - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Gabriel is an incredible tailor who makes beautiful suits. He is so knowledgeable about suiting and his work is impeccable. Gabriel is also just a good guy - he didn't try to pressure us into anything and he didn't pitch us services or products we didn't need. He gave us excellent advice on what to look for in a bespoke suit during our initial consultation (3 months ahead of the wedding) and we felt very comfortable with him. My husband was fitted 3 times before the suit was complete. NOTE: At first glance, Gabriel's suits seem very expensive but they are all handmade in-house (by Gabriel). Off-the rack designer suits at SuitSupply or Nordstrom appear to be cheaper but the quality of the fabric, the fit and the details are lacking. Designer suits are still mass-produced unless the designer or his team is fitting the suit to you. We were surprised by how expensive these suits were, considering the inferior fabric and the cost of alterations needed. Consider that Gabriel's suits are literally tailor-made to you with high quality fabrics and hand-stitched, well, everything - his suits are really high value for the price. I could go into all the details of a bespoke suit by Gabriel (canvassing, button holes, etc etc)....but really, if you have the money and you are deciding between a designer off-the-rack suit and a bespoke suit, go bespoke with Gabriel. read more

Love this place. The tailor is amazing, and does great work. Although he seems to specialize in suits (which he makes from scratch), he did AMAZING work on my wedding dress, and for a great price. I was very impressed with how well he cut and stitched my hemline, which had to be done by hand, due to the delicate fabric. He also took in the bust perfectly. I was so pleased that he only needed one fitting and got the measurements down so well. The bust fit so perfectly: tight enough to stay safe, but not so tight it caused any unsightly pudging from any angle. I am very, very happy with my experience here. I needed a tailor for a bunch of pants and found Gabriel and the Bespoke Clothier on Yelp from the great reviews. I live about 10 minutes away so it was very convenient although a bit hard to find. Unfortunately, the building complex hasn't put a sign up and the shop is tucked over on the right, a bit hidden. I certainly won't be going anywhere else in the future for tailoring needs. Gabriel is a wonderfully nice man and does exceptional work. I wanted to add a female voice to this review board and praise the great work The Bespoke Clothier did on a couple of jeans I brought in. I needed them taken in at the waist, and they now fit perfectly without showing any seams that reveal where fabric was cut. You can't even tell they were altered! This was lightyears better than a couple of other tailors I tried taking jeans to; after they were done there were two giant seams on the back waistband, which made the jeans unwearable unless I had a long shirt. For this type of alteration his price seemed comparable with other tailors I have been to. I'm glad I took a chance on him and will definitely be a repeat customer. Gabriel hooked me up. I was within 2 weeks of my wedding and brought in an ill-fitting custom suit that I got online. He started marking it for alterations and we quickly realized it would require him to rip it apart and essentially rebuild it again. Due to the time and expense that would require, Gabriel offered to make me a new one from scratch. He took my measurements and told me a day that I'd get to come in for a fitting and then one day later I'd get to take it home. True to his word, I went in and the fitting went great. He marked out a few things to finalize it and had it all ready for me the next day. He even threw in a garment bag since I was on my way out of town the next morning. Overall, I love how Gabriel treated me. I felt that he really wanted to help make my wedding special. I showed my mom the suit because she has been sewing for over 30 years and she couldn't believe the details Gabriel was able to do. The way he makes the interior jacket pockets, the thread on the inside of the lapel to hold down the boutonniere, everything is just awesome. I really wanted this to work. I was looking for a tailor to work with as I rebuilt my wardrobe. I started out by bringing in a few jackets to get altered and things seemed to work ok. Then Gabriel suggested I get a jacket made from scratch. I thought this was a good idea and got fitted. I had a presentation coming up that was many months away that I wanted the jacket ready for so there was plenty of time. Months passed and I called up to get an update on the jacket only to be told they had forgotten to even start! I had to call numerous times to remind them of my order. This was only the beginning, I needed to come back in and get re-measured. Of course the jacket wasn't done when I needed it and I had to get something else for my presentation. At this point the poor service was really annoying. Every time I called up it was "Next week" or "I'll call you back". Finally after almost a year I received my jacket. While it was nicely done when it was finished, it took entirely too long due to forgetting and misplacing my order. As an apology he promised to make me a shirt to make up for the issues with the jacket. It's been six months and every time I call he says "it's in work" or "I'll call you back". I had the wonderful opportunity of working with him from start to finish on the selection and construction of a bespoke sportcoat, and I can say with some certainty that it is not only the best looking of it's kind that I have owned but by far the most comfortable and satisfying to wear. Bespoke runs expensive, but working with him you will realize quickly that what you're paying for is not the ability to make something that -fits- your tastes, but something that *is* your taste... and on that front you can do no better than the man behind the needle at The Bespoke Clothier. I've used many tailors, and while there are many who can do what he does, few can match his calibre. I was recommended by a friend to try a suit from Gabriel for my wedding. I could tell right off the bat that he is extremely knowledgeable and serious about his craft. I ended up going with a navy suit - the quality is better than suits that I bought from Nordstrom for more than twice the price, and the fit is perfect. My husband and I contacted Gabriel in order to have suits made for our wedding, which was taking place in Hawaii in March of this year. We were about three months out when we first contacted Gabriel, and he made the entire experience as stress free and professional as possible. We readily took advantage of his very flexible hours, stopping by on most occasions around noon on Saturday. We had a fairly good idea of what we were looking for but needed some assistance picking out some of the smaller details. Needless to say, everything came out great. Gabriel took the time to really understand the look we were going for, and translated that using the color palate that we had picked out. He was always mindful of our schedule, and delivered on time and on budget. At the last minute (the day of pickup), I changed my mind on the color of the buttons on my suit. Gabriel didn't miss a beat, whisked the suit into the back room, and 5 minutes later re-appeared with all the buttons exchanged! Amazing! We really wanted to make this our go to tailor but not after our experience. Gabriel seemed always stressed and over busy which could account for the issues. We got our suits back and they were way too short. Both in the pants and jackets, as well as the shirts. The shirt neck was too tight and the arms were too long! He kept yelling that it was what we agreed to and started yelling at us when we wanted to gage the measurement against our fitting. First he said that was the modern style then he turned it around and blamed us for bringing him bad suits to alter. We checked the measurements against the written and they were off an inch or more in places! He argued that it was due to our cheap fabric! Our cheap fabric must have shrunk when he steam pressed them and that wasn't his fault! He started yelling that we were to blame and that he wasn't responsible for our cheap suit and his work is the best and he never makes mistakes! He even said my brother grew and his neck was thicker! My brother is 40 years old and long past any growth spurt. I have NEVER come across a business owner as volatile, irrational, or rude as Gabriel. I'm sure he has done good work for some people by the reviews but we will never go back to him and wanted to warn others with our experience. He never took responsibility- never even offered to fix anything. We were left with 2 suits and 2 shirts too small to wear. These suits were for a graduation so at least it wasn't a wedding. For the record we purchased the suits from Nordstrom - Italian wool and NOT cheap. We just needed a little altering. We will go back to Nordstrom for tailoring suits. At least they will back their work and not yell at you. read more

I was looking for a custom tailor to "modernize" an off-the-rack Hugo Boss suit that i bought about 5 years ago. Back in 2010, the suits weren't all "slim fit" like they are today, so I thought some simple alterations could bring my $800 Nordstrom suit circa 2010 into modern times. It turns out that I was oversimplifying the issue. Gabriel was upfront and honest with me. He told me that, with considerable work, he could get the suit to look like a "7-out-of-10". I didn't need much convincing that the suit wasn't worth saving--the suit was poorly constructed with cheap fabric intended to be sold to the masses. I was trying to save a suit for which I originally overpaid because of its label. So then what I needed from Gabriel was his professional opinion. "What should i do now?" He knew that my budget was my primary concern, but also that I wanted a sharp, high-quality suit. "Sharp," I thought, meant "slim-fit". But because of my build and height (broad shoulders and neck), he put me in a more traditional cut suit and reshaped it with a bunch of pins and needles. The fit, the width of the lapels, the breaks in the silhouette--it felt like i was wearing a suit for the first time. Then, he showed me some options that, after he worked his custom tailoring magic, would look like a million bucks. I also got a made-to-measure shirt and together with the suit I paid less than I did for the Hugo Boss suit (and only marginally more than i would've paid to get my Hugo Boss suit to a 7-out-of-10). I got to pick the color/fabric, styling details, and Gabriel put in functional cuff buttons in the jacket (i love it)! It was money well spent, and I have never received more compliments in a suit. Now, for the downside: I have not worn (and don't foresee ever wearing again) the ill-fitting dress shirts and slim fit suits that i bought off-the-rack. read more
