This has easily become one of my go-to spots for dinner because of their fresh and flavorful ingredients, generous portion, and somewhat healthy-ish options. I feel like I'm getting all my daily recommended carbs, protein, veggies every time I eat here haha - My go to's are the chicken shawarma and lentil soup if its cold out. We've also tried the mixed meat plate which they list as feeds 2, but we fed 4 people perfectly and two of them have big appetites. The service here is great too, they checked in on us and filled our waters when requested. So yummy and friendly. I first learned about this place when I was invited to a Yelp Elite event. Based on how they were able to handle mass quantities of food and still deliver good quality, I knew they were a restaurant that would provide a satisfying Mediterranean meal. We've been by a few times now and the last time we beat the dinner rush. There was a long line after we got seated which seems to the the norm here even on a week night. There were three adults and three children on a Wednesday night. First, we started with Fries. They were so good and crisp. We also got Hummus, and Baba Ghanoush, which came with fluffy pita bread. Their Hummus is creamy and yummy. Then we split the Mixed Grill Platter, Salmon, and Lamb Chop. The Mixed Grill said it was for two but seriously, it could've fed four adults. Everything on that platter was delicious. My son loved every bite even though he had ordered the Salmon and enjoyed that just as much. The other two kids wanted the Lamb Chop, which was so tender. Another great thing about this place is their friendly staff. Everyone is so nice. They come by at the right time to check in and refill the water container. Ercan is the man here with hospitality for days in this gem of a place, tucked away in a nondescript part of town. I had a craving for mediterranean food and stumbled on this. The inside is charmingly decorated and paradoxically rustic, a warm convivial vibe. We got a bunch of stuff to share: their mezzo platter with hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, red pepper dip and more. Oh man was this ever fire--their falafel is one of the best ever I've teed, and I'm usually not a fan of this dish, it's either too dry or tasteless or bland, or the fried thing doesn't do it for me. But this, it's pristine: moist and crumbles in my mouth, the lentils separate beautifully in the fork and it has flavor for days and days, not one spice dominating the others, the balancing and juggling act of the spices coming together symphonically. We also got their pomegranate chicken, which I didn't like that much, but my husband ate a few and though he didn't love it, liked it well enough. The salmon kebabs with rice were fantastic, moisty and fresh. Their feta baked with herbs and tomatoes with pita ... it's cheese and bubbly baked--what could be wrong with a cheese world. The fries were perfectly crispy and full of flavor, and the steak shawarma was tender, well-seasoned, and really satisfying. FIrst heard about this spot through a Yelp event that I unfortunately did not attend. However, the food looked so incredible that I knew I had to try it out. I convinced a friend to join me, and we shared a pot of tea along with the lamb shank. The menu noted that the lamb shank was available in limited quantities, which they did run out on the day we visited. Luckily, they were able to substitute the lamb with beef instead. The food came out quick! So I was amazed that the dish was so well prepared, with tender beef, flavorful rice and a thin, crispy dough baked on top that paired perfectly with toum (garlic sauce). The side salad was a delightful surprise, a fresh spring mix filled with white beans, carrots, cabbage, and a zesty lemon olive oil dressing. Overall, the food was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. They offered a Turkish Delight on the house which was a nice sweet ending. Didn't realize Sofra Grill has been here more than two years -- and I regret the lost time because it's really, really good! And, they're very nice people. And, they make one of the best Mediterranean wraps anywhere. At first I wanted a chicken wrap and they actually have two chicken options -- however -- they are made from dark meat chicken and I only eat chicken breast. Well (and I hope they don't mind me saying this but) I asked if there was any way they could make a wrap out of their chicken kebabs, which are chicken breast -- they checked with either the owner or the chef and said YES. However, that would be a special off-the-menu item so instead of the $11.95 they charge for either of their regular chicken wraps, they charged me the same price as their salmon wrap, $14.95 -- no problem! (And I also asked for no onions.) Folks, this was one of the freshest, creamiest, most delicious chicken wraps I've ever had. I could barely put it down, it was so good and I just wanted to keep eating it. They also have drinks behind the counter like lemonade with another fruit juice added in, or apricot juice, and more, which are very good. And I'd like to try some of their other proteins like kofte (ground beef kebab), and the aforementioned salmon. One thing I didn't love is their dessert called Kunafa, as, although, it's sweet, it is also made with cheese and, other than maybe cheesecake, not a fan of desserts with cheese, especially melted cheese -- but if that's your thing, the preparation is beautiful. There are more than a few Mediterranean restaurants on the Upper Peninsula that just do the usual standard fare, with no creativity put into the food. But Sofra puts heart, soul and love into theirs and, for that, I will keep coming back. read more

A perfect gem in South SF that we were very lucky to come across when in search of middle eastern food. The restaurant has maybe 10-12 tables. They are fast with service though. Service was impeccable and the serving staff are very attentive. The provided updates on our orders throughout the dining experience. We opted for the flat bread with minced meat, lamb special and the Adana kabob. Every item was prepared to perfection. You don't see the dish like the lamb special served in many Turkish restaurants and it was a great experience trying it. What a lovely combination!!! The Adana kabob was very tender and full of flavor. Portions are generous and satisfy a hungry one! We also opted for the baklava ice cream which was heavenly and like nothing I have tried before. My family was craving Mediterranean food so we attempted to go to Mazra since it recently reopened. Unfortunately, the line was way too long. Then I remembered Sofra Grill was nearby because I had attended a Yelp Elite event there. We were seated without any wait for our party of 6. We started with the mezza platter, which was perfect for sharing. I enjoyed all the dips, but my faves were the baba ganoush and the muhammara. Even my dad commented that the hummus was very good and tasted different than other places! That's saying a lot since he's usually a complainer. The pita bread must have been freshly baked as it was super soft and piping hot! We ordered a variety of dishes, including the steak shawarma plate, lamb chops, adana kebab wrap, adana kebab salad, and chicken shawarma. Not only was the food delicious, but the portions were very generous and prices were reasonable. I tried my daughter's lamb chops and they were excellent! The saffron rice is also seasoned perfectly and so tasty. It's a good thing we came when we did because the restaurant was packed and people were waiting when we left. The falafel was crispy and paired well with the hummus and pita bread. Make sure you get a pita bread, loved how they make it here! I thought the Beyti dish was just ok. We went to this cozy neighborhood restaurant around noon on a Tuesday and got the last seat (I hear they will be expanding). The service is friendly and efficient. The noise level is pretty high when the place is full so it's difficult to hold a conversation without raising your voice. There are a couple of tables outdoor but don't have any covering so you're at the mercy of the sun's location. The food is AMAZING. Our table ordered the salmon skewers (actually a salmon filet, not skewers), falafel plate, beef skewers, and chicken skewers. They all come with a small salad, and a lot of rice. The rice is wonderful. The beef was tender and flavorful as was the chicken. The salmon was a bit dry but fine with the provide lemon and sauces. The falafels which came with hummus and babaganoush (both smashing) were a bit overdone but still good. Our neighboring table ordered the lamb shank which comes baked in a pita-like shell. They said it was very tasty. We'll order that the next time we come. For dessert, we shared the ice cream with baklava pieces on top.
