Both came with bread, but nowhere close to the size of the sorta bread, which had a nice charred flavor, but not as soft in texture as the ones that came with the first two dishes. Absolutely terrible atmosphere. My toddler, mother-in-law, and I walked in to get seated. Rudely, a boy server, not worthy of being called a man, asked us, "What do you want? What can I do for you?" I told him we would love to be seated. He said, "Okay, it will be five minutes," and rudely gestured toward the door, insisting we move outside. South San Francisco is incredibly windy and cold. If you cannot host two adults and one toddler at the entrance while they wait to be seated in your establishment, then the capacity should be in question. Went here for my first Yelp Event and the missus and I decided to share a Falafel Plate since we are in our #skinnyEra. The store is clean and big, and you can smell it a mile away (we know because we had to park far since parking is a bit abstract). But it is WORTH it. I have only gotten to go here so not sure if it is a fast casual style or if you can sit down and order. I did see the waiters bringing out plates to the tables but it seemed like you could order at the register than sit down if you wanted. Staff is friendly and the food is good. The white sauce is good if you are okay with garlic. They must make it in house since it was much stringer than others I have tried. Very good in my opinion. Rice is flavorful and meats are cooked well. Have a good amount of spice on there although maybe too much if you are sensitive to those types of flavors. One of the only spots to serve up a lamb shank which is tender and tastes good with the rice. Also gotta drop some of that extra white sauce on there. After checking in, my food was ready in about 10 minutes. The manager/owner came outside to personally hand me the bag which was very kind and thoughtful. Overall experience with the staff was very welcoming and friendly! Portions were super generous and I really appreciate that the salad/pickles were packed separately so they don't get warm from the hot foods. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. Had the pleasant surprise of experiencing this restaurant through my first Yelp Elite event and I don't usually go for Mediterannean food but the chicken shawarma that I got was really good. It came with a salad, naan bread, and two sauces. The shawarma itself was delicious, I killed that whole thing in one sitting (a lot of rice). I first discovered Sofra Grill at a Yelp Celebration earlier this year, and I've been looking for an excuse to come back ever since. We ordered takeout this time, and my Chicken Shawarma Plate was outstanding. The chicken was flavorful and generously portioned over perfectly cooked saffron rice. The fresh house salad balanced everything beautifully, the garlic sauce was creamy and addictive, the hot sauce had just the right kick, and that warm, fluffy pita bread was worth the trip all by itself. The Steak Shawarma Plate was for my 20-year-old son...and I was hoping he'd save a tiny piece for our pup. Nope. He guarded that plate like it was priceless. Leia gave him her very best puppy eyes, but he wasn't giving up a single bite. Judging by how fiercely he protected it, I'm guessing the steak shawarma was every bit as good as my chicken. We came here one lazy Sunday afternoon for lunch. We had a Baba Ganoush, the Branzino fillet, and the Kofte plate. The Baba Ganoush was very good. The fresh bread that came with it was amazing. We probably could have just snacked on this pair all day. The Branzino fillet was pretty good. I like that it was a fillet vs a whole fish, so I didn't have to deal with bones. It was a little bland for me though. I added the garlic sauce which gave it more flavor, but I would have liked not to have to do that. Not bad, but could be better. The Kofte plate was also pretty good, but again a little bland for me compared to the Kofte at Mazra or a koobideh at one of favorite Persian spots. Again, not bad but much more flavor when I added the garlic sauce which and hot sauce. Service was excellent. They were attentive and refilled out waters without asking. The unisex bathroom is EXTREMELY clean. A good indication of how they keep their kitchen. Definitely a plus. This is a nice local spot we'll have to come back to so we can try other items. The guy who helped me told me his name was John, but for some reason, I felt like he was lying. Sure enough his name was something else, Ercan. How odd is it for him to tell me a different name? It could be busy with a wait, so unless you really want to eat there, it is much easier to order delivery. It was raining heavily the last time we came here, which probably increased our chances of getting a table right away. We grabbed the only available table at the time. The waitress was friendly when she took our order. We ordered the Chicken Shawarma plate, Muhammara, and Fattosuh Salad. I love their Muhammara. It comes with pita bread to dip into this delicous roasted pepper dip. It is so easy to just fill up on bread because it's so good! But make sure to save room for other stuff. Sofra always had a line before so I'm glad they were able to expand, but I'm also so happy that even with more space there is still sometimes a line! Came here on a whim with some friends and wow wow. This place is truly a hidden gem in a hidden place! Was lucky to snag a table around 7PM on a Sunday with no wait, although do keep in mind that this place does fill up quick since the seating is limited. We shared the Muhammara flatbread, which had a fire roasted red pepper with walnuts + gooey cheese topping. The sweetness of the roasted peppers complimented the savory cheese quite well. The texture of the flatbread was chef's kiss and we devoured this shortly. The star of the night was the lamb shank. Holy moly. The meat was fall off the bone tender and the presentation was like a magic show. A homemade dough like the Vegas sphere encasing what will be the most beautiful and tasty piece of meat you'll ever have. The server cut off the top of the dough to reveal the present beneath it. And for those who steer away from lamb, I'm happy to share that this meat is not gamey! For dessert, we tried the Baklava ice cream which includes 3 scoops of vanilla sprinkled with a generous portion of crushed pistachios and baklava. I loved the texture of the ice cream and appreciated the flavors, but wished the baklava was not soggy and had a crunchhhhh with each bite. Hummus w/ steak - a plate of chopped grilled steak with a ring of hummus drizzled with olive oil. There was more steak than hummus. The steak was nice and lean and lightly seasoned. It complemented the hummus well. Flavors were fresh and not too heavy. The pita that came with this dish was warm and fluffy. We decided to pair this with a salad for a complete meal. Fatoush salad - The lettuce base was romaine and drizzled with sweet pomegranate molasses. Came with plenty of sliced cucumbers, sliced radish, cherry tomatoes, and feta. Everything was crisp and fresh. Vinegar and oil dressing came on the side. The crispy pita was actually deep fried pita bread. It was definitely tasty albeit on the oily side and a nice addition to the salad. Falafel plate - The falafel were in mini donut shapes which is clever because it increases the amount of crispy surface area of the falafel. The accompanying baba ganoush was nice and smoky in flavor. Since we already had hummus for the table we asked to substitute the hummus side for muhammara, which is a red pepper dip that is sweet and had a great flavor. The plate came with a couple of small pieces of pita to have with the dips. There was also a small salad on the plate. This dish is a great value to be able to try a little bit of everything non-meat. Salmon plate - The plate came with four pieces of salmon that were nicely seasoned and tender. It was served on top of rice and had a small salad on the plate. We went during a weekend lunch and it just so happened all the tables just filled up when we walked in, so we had to wait around 25 minutes. Just know that it can get busy on the weekends! read more

It keeps getting better! I think they have a new menu item - it is a chicken and rice dish baked with a bread covering the whole thing. The chicken is the most tender ever - absolute fall off the bone. The flavors meld and are all in harmony. The bread thing is crisp and delicious.
