Second trip to Sofi'z ! First trip, fabulous! Today, late lunch early dinner, even better! I can't remember the menu names if all we had, you can bring up the menu and check it out. Sofi greets us personally, we introduce ourselves to her. She brings a bowl for each if us of peppery, salty crisps with nuts. Don't remember the name. Sofi welcomes you to her home/kitchen rather than to a restaurant. The comfy, living room vibe permeates the decor and comfortable, plush chairs and immaculate tables. A chilled artisan bottle of water appears while we peruse her extensive menu. We split a salad. The bowl would serve 4 adequately. I had the curried meatballs that come with a generous bowl of rice on the side. Perfect for spooning the incredibly complex flavored sauce over. My son had the ground chicken shish which is served over sauteed onions and peppers, lots of them. The shish did not come with rice, we ordered a side, but won't sgain, because the rice that came with my meatballs, 8 large and savory ones swimming in one of the best, dark, rich sauces I've ever eaten! We ordered the ice cream for desert, packaged bars, rich and delicious, we opted for Saffron flavored. Delightfully different. Maida, Sofi's assistant, finished service with these little packets of a breath cleansing particle confection that tasted like Sen Sen, for those old enough to remember those. The confection is imported from Pakistan, the Pakistani ice cream comes from Virginia. In short, if you enjoy that type of ME food, Sofi'z is the best! Oh, the mint yogurt sauce with the chicken is high on the Scoville scale! I give it a 6 out of 10 for heat. Be advised. Other spice levels were minimal and appropriate to the excellent cuisene that Sofi personally cooks in her kitchen. read more

the food, service, and ambiance were great, but if you have any food allergies I recommend going elsewhere. my friend (gluten intolerant) and I (celiac disease) decided to give it a shot. the owner took our order; we told her about our restrictions, and asked about gluten free fryers when we ordered. she assured us she could make the food gluten free so we ordered food that was marked clearly gluten free on the menu. when the food arrived we confirmed again that it was gluten free. within a few hours we were both insanely sick. my husband called to let her know that we truly had a good experience but that I was sicker than I'd ever been after eating there and she said that the food we ordered wasn't gluten free and she "tried her best" but didn't know why we had ordered the food that we did. he told her that the menu said it was gluten free and she said that it absolutely did not - however we were so excited that we took pictures and KNOW it was labeled as gluten free. if she'd just told us to begin with and the menu was adequately labeled as she said it wouldn't have been a problem at all. we are very disappointed. read more

My family and I ordered the chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, palaak paneer and chicken paneer. Each dish had layers of depth to them, contrast to places like naan and curry where the flavors are somewhat 1 dimensional and brown in flavor. Expect to pay around $20 per dish. The desserts were the same too. Highly recommend the rice pudding and the halwa, they were so good. You can taste the effort put into each dish. I should have taken photos, but the atmosphere was good too. The seating was inviting and comfortable, and the bathrooms were clean and inviting as well. Service was wonderful too. I have been wanting to try Sofi'z for a while and finally had the opportunity. Now I just keep thinking "why did I wait so long?!?" The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Portion sizes were on the larger size which allowed me to enjoy my dinner for lunch the next day. I'm looking forward to going back so I can try more items on the menu. My roommate and I both ordered the chicken tikka masala with garlic naan and it was amazing!!! The owner/chef came out to speak to us and thank us. When I gave her my compliments, she responded "I cook for my family, and I pray every time that the food comes out flavorful." She definitely does and the meals definitely do. Edit: I received an email this morning from Yelp that my review has been reported. I can only assume this is the owner. However, my review is not exaggerated or untrue. This is even more frustrating as the owner claims reviews are important to her as they help the business "grow and learn." I've debated making this review for a while now, mainly because I told the restaurant owner I wouldn't, however I think it was unfair for her to ask that of me. My partner and I had been wanting to try Sofiz for a while and finally had a kid-free day to be able to do so. First impressions were the decor was beautiful but I remember saying to my partner "I wonder how they keep bugs out with all the flowers on the walls." I should have known then lol The owner recommended we try some yogurt drinks, so we ordered 2 and they were the first to come out. My first drink I had a large piece of "pulp" come out, which I spit out on a napkin and didn't think anything of it. However as I kept drinking I noticed the drink was smooth and had no more pulp. So I decided to look at what I had spit out. IT WAS A ROACH. We asked to speak to the owner and her first reaction was "I'm so sorry, please don't give us a bad review". I was so mortified and just wanted to leave that I agreed. However, since this I have had issues with restaurants and food aversions. I cannot drink anything that has the same consistency as the yogurt drink. I am constantly spitting food out thinking I'm eating bugs. And honestly I'm disappointed that the owners main concern was her reviews and not that I had just a roach in my drink. I understand that restaurants get bugs and she did say that there was pest control regularly. I do think more precautions can be taken to seal off things that will be going in people's mouths/food from bugs, especially if it is a known issue that there are bugs. read more

Amazing!!! Full of flavor delishishness!! Everything was wonderful. Almost everything on the menu is gluten free. It is not a gluten free facility. Soy sauce and semolina flour are used in some dishes and they also serve naan. We met Sofi (the owner) and took the time to ask her about her story. What an incredible woman. The masala and the creamy mint sauce were spicy - but we love that. We will definitely be back. This is a must try if you are a foodie or enjoy curries. Because of celiac disease I was a little hesitant to try some items. Trying to explain that is difficult, most people just assume it only means you have to avoid flour. Cute decor and comfy chairs! From the moment my group walked in the door we were greeted very warmly by the owner. The atmosphere is very relaxing and absolutely lovely. The chairs are probably the most comfortable I have ever sat in. We were not rushed in any way but all our needs were readily met. The best part was the food. Delicious Butter Chicken, the best my husband and I have ever had, easily! Our party also had Goat Quarma and Chicken Kebabs. Also the Mango Lassi is outstanding.
