Lunch buffet
Roxanne G.

We met at Priya's for lunch today. What a delight. The moment you enter the restaurant, the luscious smells make you swoon. For vegetarians, there is an array of choices with eggplant and paneer and spinach and mushrooms. I'm particularly fond of their butter chicken. This is my new favorite restaurant in Chico.

Priya, Chico CA, is undoubtedly the best South Indian restaurant in town! From their convenient location with ample parking to the incredible flavors of their dishes, this place has it all. Whether you're a fan of authentic Indian cuisine or just looking for an unforgettable dining experience, Priya is the place to be. Situated in a central location, Priya's accessibility is commendable. It's conveniently close to the freeway exit, making it a breeze to find. Upon entering, you're immediately captivated by the wonderful ambiance that beautifully brings the colors and vibrancy of Andhra Pradesh to Chico. The tasteful decor and inviting atmosphere create a warm and welcoming space for all patrons. Now, let's talk about the star of the show--the food. Priya's culinary offerings are nothing short of exceptional. The flavors transport you back to the streets of India, with each dish tasting just as delicious as home-cooked meals. Their kormas and potato curries are personal favorites, bursting with authentic spices and mouthwatering aromas. For those looking for variety, Priya's lunch buffet is an absolute steal. Offering an array of delectable dishes, it is an amazing value for your money. The vada, a traditional South Indian snack, pairs perfectly with their coconut chutney and sambar, creating a heavenly combination of flavors. Don't forget to quench your thirst with their refreshing and perfectly blended mango lassi--it's a true delight! One aspect that sets Priya apart is their exceptional management and staff. They are always ready to assist, providing a helpful and friendly service that enhances the overall dining experience. Their passion for their cuisine and dedication to customer satisfaction are evident in every interaction. In a world dominated by chain restaurants, Priya is a shining example of a local small business that deserves support. By dining at Priya, you not only indulge in amazing food but also contribute to the growth of a valuable establishment in the community. In conclusion, if you're searching for an unforgettable South Indian dining experience in Chico, look no further than Priya. From their convenient location to the fantastic ambiance, exceptional food, and friendly service, they tick all the right boxes. Make sure to visit this gem and savor the flavors of Andhra Pradesh right here in Chico. Your taste buds will thank you! Vegan food AND lunch buffet!? Yummmmmy!

Priya is an incredible restaurant with the kindest owners. Not a lot has changed since my last review with them, which is great because they've been consistently fantastic. Not only have they maintained a delicious menu, decorated beautifully with decor authentic to the culture, they also maintain exceptional customer service. Since last writing, I've had three kids, two husbands, and gone vegan. My most recent baby is about half-made of their food I've eaten there so much. (Now, she goes with us and enjoys the dishes, too!) So, I've eaten there long and frequently enough to know there's literally never been a misstep in the quality, quantity, and deliciousity of the food. We've visited at 11 am, the moment they open the doors for the all-you-can-eat buffet to right before closing (dining through their closing time more than once). EVERY time the food is perfect and they serve us patiently without making us feel like we're burdens. To make things even more annoying for the owners, we're very discerning about what foods we choose to eat (damn vegans). Thankfully, Priya has ALWAYS been a safe place for us to eat. The owners never hesitate to share what is vegan on the (often half-vegan) lunch buffet or any time we ask about dinner options. I stopped to write this review today because, after years of fantastic service, I am so grateful for their kindness, yet again: We went to the lunch buffet, I intended to order the eggplant curry Thali dinner for myself and my husband would enjoy the buffet. When I asked to order the vegan Thali dinner, the sweet woman showed me all the vegan items on the buffet (lemon rice - omg, DELICIOUS, fried veggies, another entire cooked veggie dish, sambar, and more). I honestly just love their curry and wanted it, too. So I ordered a side of it to go with the buffet. They also offered roti, a vegan version of naan that comes with a thali dinner and wasn't on the buffet. The curry and roti came out quickly (both warm and the yummiest I've had) and I realized I didn't even need to order it because I'd already managed to fully stuff my face from the buffet. When it came time to go, my husband asked for a to-go container for the curry I ordered (I ended up saving it because of how full I was) and paid. After it was all said and done, I realized they'd only charged us for two buffet prices and included my favorite curry and roti - that they made specifically for us - in the buffet price. I asked if I could pay for the extras I ordered. They refused. Every time we go, there's some new way they surprise me with their excellent service. The buffet is great for parents with littles because you can walk in, eat, and leave. No waiting - even if there's a special order, like mine! I'd report how scrumptious the food is, but it - and their repeated Best of Chico awards - speak for themselves. Priya is hands-down one of the best spots in Chico. Great for dates, great for family, great for vegans... just great :) I can't thank the owners enough for always being so patient with us. We absolutely love Priya and the sweetheart owners.

The steaks are cooked to order and unlike some other buffets, if you're not satisfied they will do it over. Rarely is there ever the need though. At least not for me. The peel and eat shrimp is huge and a perfect partner for the steak. The salad bar at the Dreamcatcher Buffet is phenomenal too. They have one of the largest selections of ingredients of any salad bar in town and it's always fresh. Much of it (when available) is locally grown as well, which is always a plus. The service there is fantastic as well. The servers are all attentive to your needs. We we're just there last night and the place was packed. They were unusually busy, even for a Friday night, but the servers were regularly by our table to see if how our meal was or if we needed drink refills or anything else. I can't say enough about the service. If I had to say anything negative about the experience last night, the one thing I did notice was that they were a little slow to clean up food that had been dropped on the floor. It eventually did get cleaned up, but considering how busy they were, I think they did just fine. Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend the Dreamcatcher Buffet. I don't eat the meat or seafood/ crab and my guests I bring missed the sushi and all said the billboards advertising the crab legs had (ok, as a lifelong vegetarian, I don't know the diff or what they're called, but basically, the following: ...) been the big ones on the billboards, but in real life, they're the weird, tiny ones that take forever to get open and then there's very little payoff or meat or whatever. The pasta dishes tonight, including the Mac n cheese, all had no flavor and they used the large asparagus instead of the thin ones they normally have (I love the thin ones bc the thick ones are harder to eat). All in all, they should lower the prices back and go back to what they were doing. I might come back if they do, but probably not if they remain at these prices for these above mentioned changes.

Watching the cooks hard at work and mastery of Mongolian bbq was like a well-oiled machine. Watching the cooks and seeing staff continuously refill the food, toppings, and sauce containers for customers, while also putting out more bowls and trays, was like watching a flawless production! As for our food, the price of lunch is bang for buck because of how much you can fill your Mongolian BBQ bowl and the soup, rice, and addicting wonton chips with sweet and sour dipping sauce that come with your lunch meal. I gave 4 stars because the garlic and potato soup was super salty. My friends and I agreed this soup would have been perfect if it didn't taste like salt was poured into it. In addition, watching the cross contamination of some diners touching the raw meat in their bowls then touching the next tongs, like for the veggies, was a big health risk concern for me. With this, I keep in mind that I don't even know if this can be prevented due to the way Mongolian BBQ works with customers serving themselves, like a buffet. I understand it would be hard to control and prevent the cross contamination from touching the meat, especially as customers try to make room in their big bowl. In the end, the number of people dining, then seeing more people entering, shows how popular Hula's is!
