I've heard about their empanadas and when I saw the brunch menu, I knew I had to have it. While mostly a take-out spot, I had called and asked if they were able to accommodate a dine-in party of 10, which they said would not be an issue. They also let me know that there was no customer restroom, so FYI if that's a deal breaker for you. The space is casual and cozy. When we arrived our table was waiting for us. Service was friendly, but they may still be getting the hang of it, but we had no issues. They serve some good, bold coffee in many forms; cafe con leche, lattes, cortado, etc. From the moment I saw the brunch menu, I knew I wanted the eggs benedict wich is served with chorizo over a tamale, topped with hollandaise. Served with some crispy spiced potatoes and a lovely salad. The dish was delicious, the eggs were poached well and I loved every bit of it. Gio's Columbian Egg Sandwich was also excellent, also served with the same potatoes and salad. Everyone enjoyed their plates which also included pancakes, Steak & Eggs and Carne Asada. We also ordered some empanadas to bring home and they were so good. They offer both flour and corn versions and they really hit the spot later that day. read more

They are still figuring out their identity, sit-down casual, fast casual? We don't know, I have been here 2 times, the second time and all male front of house staff was disorganized. Even forgot to get my the drink I ordered, so I had to get it removed from the bill. As far as empanadas go, these are run of the mill. If you ever ate empanadas from a Colombian place in Queens, these are the same. Parking is almost non existent, let's home there is good foot traffic in the warmer months. As far as Ambiance, it's lovely. It feels a bit like your Tias living room, if you're from Latin America. I would go back again, but more than like will go ahead for pick up. read more

I normally do not leave reviews but this one i had to. This place is sooooo good!! Not only is the food good but the service, portions, and price is good! It is a family owned restaurant and the restaurant is small and cozy with a few tables. So far i've tried many different empanadas, shrimp ceviche, pernil, the platter, the skirt steak, steak with potatoes, guacamole, and the shrimp dish they were all so good! It is so good i come almost once a week. I recommend this place highly!!! read more

Based on the super high reviews I decided to sample a few things - the basic chicken and rice, a cheese empanada and a beef corn empanada. Nothing stood out for me and the beef in the corn empanada was a mushy mix of unappetizing meat. Maybe I ordered the wrong things but I didnt love anything. read more

Sofia's Empanadas is hands-down one of the best empanada places I've ever been. My girlfriend and I eat here multiple times a week because the food tastes so good and is so affordable for what you get! Not to mention the extremely friendly staff who is so warm and welcoming every single time we come in. Sophia's Empanadas opened recently and we gave them a try. It's a small place but very cute with some seating inside. The staff was super friendly!! We love a good empanada!!! We tried a variety of empanadas both flour and corn. We had the chicken, rice and cheese and the pernil. My GF prefers the flour empanada with chicken while my absolute favorite was the corn empanada with pernil!!! The juices just gush!!! Everything was delicious and fresh!! They even reheated perfectly in the air fryer as we saved some for later. Even days later they were delicious!!!! Definitely recommend giving them a try!! read more

Every time I passed by I was waiting for it to open. It ended up opening about a month ago but I made it in! They're so friendly and the main dishes are probably great. Today I only got empanadas to go. I got the jalapeño cheddar carne in both yellow and white flour. Guava and cheese pollo and pernil. They're frying them fresh so I recommend calling ahead or just enjoy hanging out in their welcoming dinning area. Can't wait to go back for a meal. read more

This place opened up not long ago and passed by twice and decided to give it a go. I really love the ambiance of the place. Clean and spacious. The owner Sofia is very friendly and explains well. Has a very nice food selection and so many choices for empanadas. I love how it's all made fresh. Of course I just ordered so much food just to give it all a try. Trying both flower and corn empanadas. I love the platter diced that they offer. Empanadas are just all delicious. They have the ham, cheese and pineapple. Must try! Get the soups. Tried all three and just delicious. Will be coming often. read more

Love little places like this. Sofia's empanadas hit the spot. Stopped in for a take-out order, met at the counter by a friendly young man with a smile on his face. Helped us choose a few. Liked them all. Freshly prepared, crispy pockets, just $3 each. Looking at the menu on the way home, it includes a nice selection of different lunch and dinner items, all reasonably priced. Only a few tables for dining in, but other customers seemed happy. Have to come back to see how they do other dishes. read more

The place was really nice looking, very clean. The staff very nice and friendly. The empanadas de carne near perfect. The seasoning amazing, just wish the dough was a bit thinner. But overall i give it a 9.4. I love that they use the right type of meat and not like other places that use ground. I also tried the consomé and the smell was perfect. Reminded me when my grandma use to make it. The perfect amount of chicken. I love that it was all breast meat too. The only thing that would had made it perfect was a bit of more seasoning. I know is perfect probably for the area, IYkYK but for me as a caleña, and a critic It was lacking a bit of salt/seasoning. But not by much. The place overall impressed me. Was excited to try this place. I ordered the flour beef and chicken empanadas and the corn pork empanada. The lack of meat was really disappointing, they weren't listed as meat and potatoes, so to have them be majority potatoes shocked me. I could understand maybe some to be binding and add moisture. Sofia Empanadas is a little gem in East Meadow- the food, service and ambiance was absolutely perfect!! Family owned business that was inspired by their grandma, which was so touching to hear. I particularly loved the pineapple, ham and cheese empanada and the vegetable one, but everyone we tried was delicious!! The side of rice and beans and plantains were a very large portion, and so very tasty! Of course we ended with a sweet treat! The guava and cheese empanada out of this world!! My husband, daughter and I dined at Sofia's for dinner on Valentine's Day. We usually take out, but decided to stay and sit. Everything was delicious! We each had a few empanadas and shared the pernil, arroz con pollo and the the bandeja paisa. Each dish was prepared perfectly. We ended with cafe con leche and the guava and cheese and Nutella empanadas. The service was great and the decor is tasteful and cozy. The whole experience was relaxed and pleasant. It was the perfect Valentine's Day meal. This restaurant is not only great for takeout, but will now be our "go to" for sit down as well. read more

Delicious empanadas and very friendly service. I got an assortment for a friend of mine who happens to be very familiar with Colombian food and he said they were 100% authentic. Personally, my favs are the corn empanada with beef filling, and the corn empanada with pernil. I'm looking forward to going back to try more of their food. Empanadas are just ok the filling is mostly starch like potatoes, don't expect much meat. Many sites like DoorDash have the empanada choices in Spanish. We live is USA and I don't have to go to translation site to order empanadas. Don't think I will bother with Sofia's Empanadas again. read more

Just got back from dinner there. Best empanadas by far. We had an assortment (including the vegetable, which, surprisingly I liked the most) and all were hot, fresh & delicious. My granddaughter had their banana & Nutella empanada and wanted to lick the plate (but didn't). Place is spotless & inviting, with lively music. Had a friendly talk with our servers. Interesting dinner selections, which will be what we try next time. And that will be very soon. Would love to linger with friends over a hot coffee next time too!
