The term "craftsman" gets thrown around a lot these days, but usually as hyperbole. Scott and the entire team at Sofa Interiors however, are craftsmen. In fact, they are master craftsmen. The internet defines a master craftsman as "A member of the European guild system, where only masters and journeymen were allowed to be members. An aspiring master would have to pass through the career chain from apprentice to journeyman before he could be elected to become a master craftsman. He would then have to produce a sum of money and a masterpiece before he could actually join the guild. If the masterpiece was not accepted by the masters, he was not allowed to join the guild, possibly remaining a journeyman for the rest of his life." I believe this is an accurate description of what Scott and the team at Sofa Interiors do every day. I had a 17-year-old couch and loveseat that were (predictably) showing their age. Though they were extremely well made and had been restuffed before; they were well past their prime. While shopping to replace them, I really couldn't find anything I liked. I had no idea what was involved in getting a couch re-sprung, but after some research, I stumbled upon Sofa Interiors. Their reviews were stellar, and upon calling Scott, he explained to me that I could probably not find a sofa/loveseat today, that was made with the same quality mine had been in 2002. I sent him some pictures and then went into his showroom in Glendale to pick out fabric. A few weeks later I basically had a brand new couch and loveseat. Scott and his team reupholstered, re-sprung and re-stuffed my couch. They also refinished all the wood, which really made a huge difference. I'm very happy with the finished product. You might even call it a masterpiece! It wasn't the cheapest route, but for me, it was money well spent. Plus I supported a local small business employing true craftsmen. We shopped around quite a bit and there wasn't anywhere -- at least not in the Pasadena - Eagle Rock - Glendale area -- offering a better quality, custom made product at the same reasonable price and with the service we got at Sofa Interiors. Scott spent a ton of time with us designing the configuration, cover style, fabric and more. The process was really fun. About 3 weeks later a beautiful couch, built exactly to our dimensions was delivered. We expect this couch will last us decades. I had an incredible experience here. Scott and his team here absolutely impressed me. Backstory: Two weeks ago, my girlfriend and I were knee-deep in a frantic house hunt in the area. We were facing an upcoming month without a mattress or a large sofa to sleep on. We decided we wanted a small sleeper loveseat to serve as our interim sleeping solution, and then later as our office seating and future guest bed. Our requirements were very specific: it needed to be small, basically like a love seat, so it would not take up a lot of space. We wanted it to be armless, which would also keep it small, minimal, and modern looking. We're a stickler for design details, so we had a very precise vision. We could not find anything like it on the market, except for a few high-end retailers with ridiculous price points. On a whim, we found Sofa Interiors on Yelp and drove there with no reservation and certainly no expectations to order anything. We met Scott, and hastily explained our situation, budget, time urgency, and vision. He handled us like a champ, and easily spent 45+ minutes with us, helping us clarify the concept, and walking us through all of the possibilities. His customer support was so fantastic that we ended up spec'ing the entire piece out and ordering it on the spot. Exactly two weeks later, ahead of schedule, and at a remarkably affordable price, we received our finished piece and it's absolutely lovely. They did an amazing job reupholstering our wooden stools for an affordable price. I got some quotes from other places before coming here and was very discouraged by all of them. One store wanted to charge us $150 per stool, not including labor and delivery. That's basically the cost of a new stool. Sofa Interiors, however, charged us around $40 per stool and got the job done in three days. The store manager was very helpful over the phone and helped me load the stools into my car when I came to pick them up. It's one thing to be "sold" furniture, but to be educated about furniture and touring a business without asking is something else. I'm a firm believer that all crafting of items is a science or is methodology. Scott believes this too and he is genuinely concerned how your furniture will LIVE with you and your lifestyles of everyone involved. My husband tends to live on the sofa. It's his safe zone, his man cave, often his bed (oh, I don't mind having our real bed to myself!) So we told Scott how much we will live on our new sofa about 2.5 years ago. Scott and the lovely folks at Sofa Interiors created a custom, three-piece, bench couch for me in 2005. With my measurements and Scott's know-how (he helped me arrange the measurements so that with an easy reconfigure two of the pieces fit together perfectly to form a king-sized bed -- voila, extra guest sleeping space), the exact couch I wanted was delivered about 3 weeks later. The couch has been much-loved over the past 8 years -- so much that I needed the couch recovered and some of the springs that had come loose under the couch repaired. Scott remembered me and the couch and then dug through the fabric samples with me and gave me a very reasonable quote. He insisted on fixing the springs at no charge. The couch was finished in three weeks even after I told him I was in no hurry as there would be painters in the house for the next couple of weeks. The "new" couch was delivered yesterday and it is perfect. I swear they restuffed the seats and the new neckroll pillows (he followed up with me regarding these and ended up making new foam pillows that keep their shape better and even brought me the old ones) are gorgeous. Let me start out by saying that I am very particular about all aspects of commissioning anything custom. As a design / color consultant ( my website is www.customcolorandart.com ) it is imperative that the craftspeople that I deal with be astute about proportion and detail. It is equally important that they listen carefully and take direction accurately. In Scott, not only does he preempt my questions and concerns but also offers insightful options to achieve the look I'm after. In this recent project, I came with a sketch of a custom sleeper sofa and love seat I needed making. He understood exactly what I was after and we carefully went over all the details. Furthermore, his selection of fabric was excellent in terms of range in price and style from contemporary to modern motifs. His pricing was right on point as well. The end result was a fabulous product with 3.5 density foam (much of what is sold at places like West Elm and Pottery Barn is 1.75 density which will last for maybe 5 years as opposed to 12 or 14) with an upgraded foam mattress and wonderful fabric for what I may have paid the same price at a retail showroom for a lesser product. This place is top notch and Scott is very knowledgeable. I called several places in the area and all of them were priced much higher and treated my situation like any other. Scott really took into account that I was looking to just convert my spring cushions into foam since the rest of couch was still in good condition. Scott described what he recommended for me and even gave me a quote over the phone after we had discussed what might work best for my situation. He did have some higher priced items that would be helpful if I planned to keep the couch for the next 10 years, but I know it won't last that long and we will probably redecorate in that time; so we chose what worked for us and he didn't try to pressure us into anything. He also invited us to his store to try out different foams and made sure we were choosing the right one for us and was willing to work with us on our budget. We had been shopping for a couch online and in stores for months.
