We heard good things about this restaurant so made a plan to stop here for lunch on our way from SC to NY. The chef is amazing. The food was all awesome. We just happened to stumble upon this place while looking for a place to have lunch before our wedding. There were 7 of us in our group. We had a great table outside. The food was fantastic and so were the cocktails! Everyone in our group loved their meal. The homemade pickles in the Bloody Mary was delicious. Girls night out! This cozy little restaurant was a real treat! Service was friendly and attentive, especially Ronnie, who walked around to each table and introduced himself as the kitchen manager. Came here with a couple of coworkers and this place was alright. I ordered a Caesar salad with chicken on it and it was just okay. Piping hot chicken was put on top of the salad which caused it to wilt a bit. The service was on the slower side but the waitress was nice. Stopped at Sodosopa for a late lunch after driving for about 4 hours on I-95. Definitely easy to get to and easy to get back on the interstate. Parking was a typical small downtown area, so expect to parallel park. Prices were wonderful for such good food, I would have paid the same for something like Cracker Barrel, but Sodosopa was way better. Definitely would like to stop here again on my next road trip down south. read more

We were driving through Smithfield and was looking for a place to grab a bite to eat and chose Sodosopa based on the reviews. We are so glad we did! We both had the brisket which was very good. I highly recommend the blueberry chipotle sauce. Just a little kick to it so was perfect for me. The staff was attentive without being over attentive and friendly. Do ask how this establishment obtained its unique name. Definitely will drop in again when we come through Smithfield. read more

My husband and I were told about this restaurant by some friends and family. They only had good things to say....we do not. We ordered and split the "Beast Feast." It comes with chicken, brisket, pulled pork, ribs, slaw, toast, and 2 sides (we chose mac and cheese and french fries). The chicken and mac and cheese were worthy of 5 stars, but it was only downhill from there. All of the meat had no flavor. The pulled pork and brisket tasted exactly the same, like nothing. The only difference between the two was that the pulled pork was loaded with fat. The ribs also had no flavor as well as the fries and slaw. Waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu, but disappeared for 20 mins toward the end of our meal. We eventually had to flag down the manager to get the check. He was very friendly and came and introduced himself to all the tables. Overall our visit to Sodosopa was a disappointment and we will not be returning. read more

Found this place on yelp. After we got our meals, the Owner came out and asked how our meals were. He explained how they make the potato cake here. My husband had it and said it was pretty good. I had the brisket red beans and rice and French fries. Everything was good. It is located in a nice town. You need to stop in. read more

When we go out of town we always like to find the hidden treasures. And this is definitely one. Planning our trio to Myrtle Beach from Virginia Beach we looked for a halfway point to stop for lunch and ran across this place as being a hidden treasure with raving reviews of amazing food and great service. And I would have to agree. We for there around 11:15 so it was not crowded, yet. lol. We were greeted at the door by a very nice women, and the servers were very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was very quaint and they even has a cute outside seating area. The food was amazing!!!! I had the beef brisket which was delicious. Highly recommend the vinegar sauce. My husband has the Cuban sandwich and was still talking about how delicious it was an hour later. He was exceptionally impressed with the taste of the bread, tenderness of the meat , and the delicious cowboy mustard. My father had the Ruben which he said was just as tasty. Definitely a great place and the prices were fantastic for the quantity and quality of the food We will definitely be back. read more

The Collards are the best I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and don't ruin them with vinegar. The pimiento cheese is also the best I've ever had, especially if you ask for extra chilies. The hog cakes will make you want to slap your mama, and the blueberry BBQ sauce is insanely delicious. I like to get just grilled chicken and I'm not sure how one makes simple grilled chicken taste so good but they do it every time! Hands down my favorite restaurant in town!! read more

Service was very nice and friendly, but the food disappointed at many levels. The six dinner orders all came out at different times and that was just the start. Meatloaf sliced less than 1/2 inch thick and then burned on the grill was super dry. Brisket was dry and chewy. Hot dog sandwich had a 1/2 charred hotdog. The sides were tasteless - How can you screw up potato salad ???? Well someone did. On a positive note, the wonton appetizers were actually tasty and good. I don't typically like giving bad reviews but this is more like a public service. First tried this place four years ago when it first opened. I believe I said the food was OK but not great, but I reasoned the place is new and would improve. Wrong! We tried again yesterday afternoon and was treated to a kitchen that must have have been trained in a nursing home. My wife ordered a burger with brie that was supposed to be medium. It was burned to a nice charcoal texture and tasted worse than it looked. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich and it obvious they obviously have no idea what that is. Between two pieces of toast wa some ham and a substance that might have been pulled pork or foam rubber. Could not determine for sure. Also included tater tots and seriously if you can't make tater tots give up running a restaurant. The waitress we had was very nice and we brought to her attention. She said she would tell management. I assume she did but not a single person approached us about it. No one offered to take anything off the bill. $46.00 for one of the worst meals since being hospitalised. Oh and thanks for the diarrhea! read more

We were shopping at the outlet mall just passing through on our way back to Georgia and decided to find a local spot for a late lunch. We usually eat at Smithfield Chicken and BBQ but decided to try something different this time. We were intrigued because this place had four and a half stars and the main thing people talked about were the hog cakes. We ordered two appetizers, the hog cakes and the southern fried Rangoon, and i ordered the Philly cheesesteak with fries and my wide decided to try the grilled pimento cheese sandwich and potato salad. After about 15 minutes, the amour of time that usually passes before actually getting an appetizer to the table, our server came and told us some cooler was broken and there were no hog cakes, the main thing that intrigued us on the menu in the first place. Then after another 15 minutes our Rangoon finally arrived. I have to mention at this point that aside from two people at the bar we were the ONLY people in the whole place, so being busy was not the problem. The southern fried Rangoon was okay but with the name being "Rangoon" we expected some sort of creamy component inside but instead it was literally just pork and greens in a deep fried wonton wrapper. The flavor was decent but just not what we anticipated. Our meals finally came another 10-15 minutes later. The Philly cheesesteak was delicious. It was a good size, not too big, on a toasted hoagie roll and the meat was tender and seasoned just right. I would definitely order that again. My wife's pimento grilled cheese was good but the cheese spread inside wasn't creamy and melty like we anticipated...it was lukewarm and not really melted at all. Again, not bad but certainly wouldn't get it again. She really liked the potato salad though. It wasn't traditional southern creamy potato salad but more like cold chunky mashed potatoes. That didn't bother her and she really enjoyed the flavors. Overall we were disappointed in the experience. There was a strange vibe in the place and our waiter was literally the only employee who spoke to us during the entire hour we were there. The young man who seated us initially said our waiter would be with us shortly but then he ended up being our waiter even though he was brand new. He seemed to struggle with the whole process and even had to get someone to ring up our check because he wasn't in the "system" yet. The bartender talked nonstop to the guests at the bar but walked by us multiple times and didn't say a word. As we were leaving she rushed out to greet a family entering and help them get seated. It truly felt like no one wanted to be bothered with us. Like i said...strange vibe and we definitely didn't feel welcome. We won't be going back to this restaurant. read more

We were traveling the interstate and usually stay in the same hotel off the highway. After shopping at the outlets we decided to get away from the chain restaurants. We saw a sign that said downtown so we checked it out. My wife search for restaurants in the area and this one popped up. We were totally thrilled with it. Staff is friendly and food is great.
