I agree with some other reviews.. the place isn't a looker. My husband and I pulled in the parking lot and I was ready to leave. Thank goodness we didn't! We make it a point to go at least every other weekend now. I like the waffle fries but the tater tots are elite. I love getting queso and garlic aioli on them. The burgers are amazing. My husband and I agree that we like them more than 5 Guys, Hwy 55 or BurgerFi. The smashed burgers with the right thickness, cheese on each patty and the buns...! We also loved the jalapeño bacon. And I can't not mention the fried banana peppers! The order is huge and they are mouthwatering. It's a must try if you're in the area! read more

I had no idea this burger joint was in Smithfield. We got done walking at the Smithfield park and decided to get some food. I got the truffle shuffle burger. It has Caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, truffle aioli. I had a side of the aioli, it was a bit sweet for my taste. I got the sweet potato waffle fries with it. My kids loved them. Too much sugar and cinnamon for my taste. I also had a side of onion rings. The onion rings tasted freshly made -best ones I've had in a while! Fries were good reminded me of Wendy's fries. My husband got their salad with the burger patty as his meat option. The salad looked amazing I wish I took a picture of it. His meat came on the side and the dressing came in packets. The service was good and the food came out fast. The ambiance of the place reminded me of an old Taco Bell. I did not care for it. I did like how they had tables outside. Love your burgers, but, the salad is a big disappointment. I get the salad burger bowl, and half of the lettuce in the salad is rotten! First time I saw that, I was not happy. Second time, very annoyed. 3rd, 4th & 5th time, each salad is the same, or worse, I have to pick out all the rotten black bits of lettuce, its truly awful. And it's not cheap. Please, please, please serve your customers clean fresh lettuce. It's bad enough, that parking on Market Street is no longer allowed in Smithfield, don't give customers another reason to avoid your business. This is any easy fix, if you care. Seen the reviews and decided to give'm a try. Yeah, nope! The staff was nice enough.. little to no communication. (I'm straight with it) We were the only ppl in the spot. Ordered 2 burgers, a chicken sandwich, 1 fry and, 2 onion rings, plus pretzels. This took over 25mins. I mean, I am all down to wait for good food.. but yeah, NOPE! Sooo happy to have found this place. Came from Raleigh to the Premium Outlets and decided to try Barley and Burger and OH MY GAAAAAAH. I would come from Raleigh just to eat here. Food is amazing, flavorful, patties had that delicious caramelized crust that a smashed burger should have, all the sides were super crispy and well seasoned(especially them sweet potatoes fries!!), we also ordered 3 milkshakes and were alll amazing too! The staff were incredibly nice and attentive, specially the guys serving the food aaaaaaand a 99% sanitation score?!!! Can't beat it. read more

There are several things I did not like about this place. First off, the portions. There are only double-patties on the menu with a side. They should offer just a single burger no side. The cost was expensive for what you get. We spent over $34 for two burgers, two fries and two bottled waters. The fries were disgusting. They were soaked in old grease. My guess is they were re-heated by being put back into the fryer. Not good! In the trash they went. Only saving grace was the burger. The double cheese was fresh, nicely cooked and a delicious bun. One last thing to add; there was no barley on the menu. I was hoping to get a beer with my burger. That was a no-go! All I wanted was a burger and a beer. That should have been my cue to exit. The choices looked good.Don't like medium burger but they said they could do medium rare (didn't). The patties were fresh but wish I could get a single and the bun was nice and soft. The onion rings, although plentiful were tough- overfried. The worst thing was how long we had to wait for the food- very slow service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. The lady that took our order at the counter was super nice and helpful. Atmosphere was simple and clean. They have cute art up of the Goonies, Marty McFly etc. (they have named the burgers after movie references). They also have a nice outdoor seating area at the front of you have a pup with you. We got the Maverick burger and shared. The edges of the smash burger were crispy but it wasn't dry. It was juicy and flavored very well, not over salty. The sweet potato fries were fresh and cooked to perfection, they weren't undercooked or greasy, but that maple aioli that comes with is *chefs kiss! Do NOT let the outside of this place fool you. It looks like an old abandoned restaurant, and inside it's pretty plain. Nothing special just a few tables and the movie pictures of which the burgers are named. However, once you take your first bite into this piece of Heaven, you'll be slapping the roof of your mouth with your tongue ready for the next bite. I decided to keep it simple and ordered the All-American Burger and fries--comfort food at its finest. What really stood out to me is that their burgers are named after 80s movies and shows, which adds a fun twist to the menu. Now I have a reason to go back and try more! Next on my list is the Maverick--loaded with garlic aioli, A-1 sauce, American cheese, and crispy onion straws. That sounds like the perfect burger for my taste. Another big plus was the friendly staff. And, let me tell you, they give you more fries than I've ever gotten anywhere! I finished my burger and was still working on those fries, which never happens for me. They were absolutely delicious! Stopped in for lunch today and the service was fantastic. The person at the counter was super friendly and very helpful. The whole restaurant atmosphere was very 80s/90s these which was really cool to see. I got the Marty McFly burger with tots and an all beef hotdog. My brother got the pretzel bites to try. Everything we had was SUPER flavorful and cooked perfectly. The tots were crispy outside soft inside and the burger was just awesome. Will absolutely be going back next time I'm in Johnston County! The food was super salty and the fried foods like the tater tots were all broken to bits and tasted like week old, super used fry oil which was not good at all. Date 7-10-24 I went in and ordered the All American Burger and I was not Disappointed. The Burger was fresh sweet potato fries were just right not too much brown sugar. Josh the manager is the greatest he made sure the toppings were added and the food was hot. The time was 6:03 Pm. Ordered a burger here and it was delicious! I think it was the Rocky Balboa that was ordered. Cheese, pickles, and a house made sauce. They burger was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, a nice char on the burger. The buns toasted. Very very good burger. The fries could have been slightly crisper but that is personal preference, they were still very good. The employees were very kind even though they were pretty busy. Talked with us while we worked through what we wanted to order. I saw a sign on the highway for this restaurant and was in the mood for a good burger so I figured I would give it a try. I got a double Smashburger with cheese was very good quality and cooked perfectly. The bun was definitely higher quality as well. I don't know what kind of bun it was, but it was not a normal bun from most hamburger places. Only improvement I would make would be the fries.
