Probably the only place I eat Shrimp and Grits at. I attempt to eat here every trip. I don't usually eat anything except the shrimp and grits. This trip the local Red Oak was not on tap and they only had cans so had to go with a Guinness. Service has always been very good. The restaurant is locally owned and seems to have a good flow of locals in and out which is always a good sign. read more

I stopped here for a quick bite after reading the positive reviews. This was my first time here and last. The service was slow, which I can deal with if it's busy but it wasn't. There was one other table of 2 when we walked in. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak that was recommended by the server. I received a hoagie with barely any meat. I even hollowed out the bread to try to make the scale of meat and bread even, didn't help as you can see in the photo. Very disappointing $17 meal. Do not recommended. read more

I have been working in Smithfield for about 5 months, since recently moving to Raleigh and had not heard much about the food scene until recently. Because I came here for a business dinner, I didn't get a chance to ask, but is the name of this restaurant related to Southpark? Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's get to the food. We started with some apps. Smoked salmon dip and pimento cheese. Both were very average dips mostly consisting of cream cheese or mayo. Could have used more flavor on each. I ordered the meatloaf with collard greens and red beans and rice. To my surprise, the collard greens were the best thing I had here, which is to say these collard greens were better than a lot of southern meat and threes I had been to. The meatloaf was slightly dry, but the flavor was really good. Notnsure how they prepared it but it looks like it was sliced thin and then finished which most likely dried it out. If it had been moist and had a little more sauce on it, the meatloaf would have rivaled the collards. The red beans and rice were also dry. They had some delicious looking burgers on the menu, I will be back to try one. read more

The shrimp and grits had a gorgeous presentation which excited me to take that first bite. I was greeted with grits that needed to be cooked another 2 minutes, probably made with water so definitely could have benefited from being finished with cream. Last they were topped with breaded shrimp. The breaded shrimp had a frozen flavor and were disappointing considering this dish should not have breaded shrimp. Because I anticipated outstanding grits and did not plan a review, I did not take a picture prior to eating. The pulled pork loaded nachos had a nice presentation and tasted good. Nothing outstanding though. We ordered two Reubens. They were the typical Reuben. I love Reuben's and hoped for a fat Reuben with a large portion meat and sauerkraut. Not what I received. read more

This was a nice little find for us. Heading north on I95, yelp directed us to this little restaurant bar with legit North Carolina barbecue and a super nice and welcoming waitress with a lovely Southern accent. Brisket and pulled pork--good! My husband loved the rub on the ribs. The potato salad tasted like my mom just made it in the kitchen (in my book that's good) and the slaw was about my favorite ever. A little tangy a little creamy. We were less enamored of the green beans and the collards but who really cares? This felt like the place that locals come -- indeed, it had so much atmosphere that I felt like we ought to shoot a movie scene. While in Smithfield, I stopped at Sodosopa for lunch. You seat yourself and a menu is brought to your table. I went with the pulled pork. It came with two sides and coleslaw. I was given two types of sauce but only had the sweet sauce. The portion of the meal was good and I couldn't finish but I was not offered a to go box. I chose broccoli and mac n cheese for the side. Nice spot in Smithfield downtown area to meet and eat. They have a respectable BBQ game with sandwiches, unique apps, tasty 'zerts and a full bar. We had the pulled pork Rangoon for an appetizer - very good and fried perfectly. Not greasy at all. I ordered the smoked chicken salad wrap with fries (asked for brocolli though). Very good chicken salad and the best fries in town. My partner got the shrimp and grits dish, it was also flavorful. Walk in and sit yourself. We chose to sit at the bar. Took a while for someone to reluctantly take our order. We tried the wontons, hog cakes, pimiento cheese, and wings. So my fiancé and myself gave this place a second try because our first experience was HORRIBLE well this one was no better I ordered a Cuban and when it arrived I took a bite and there was no mustard and the "fried pickles" were actually just headed up cucumbers when I asked my server if they would put the cowboy mustard on it that was suppose to have she took my plate and then came back with my plate and yellow mustard is it really that hard to make the sandwich correctly I know see why my industry is the one that is dieing out it's because it seems like no one cares about what food is actually suppose to be presented as it's stated on the menu. Just had lunch here again today. A bit let down. As others have mentioned, there is a lack of seasoning to the food. Had the wontons. Those were delicious. They come with a tasty mustard, but I'd prefer them with one of the house bbq sauces. They have 4 sauces. A vinegar based that is good, a red that was excellent, a mustard that was overly mustardy, and the blueberry was excellent. Had the brisket sandwich (not on the menu) and Mac and cheese cheese and slaw. The slaw is nothing to talk about. 4 adults tried SoDoSoPa for first time on a Friday. We arrived about 5 pm. There were maybe a half dozen other customers at that time. We were cheerily greeted upon entry and were allowed to select our own seats. Our server appeared promptly and was quite friendly and helpful. We had the Southern Rangoon as an appetizer; eight bite-sized, fun and tasty pieces. Two of our party ordered their pulled pork main dish with two sides each (fries/broccoli/collard greens/red beans & rice), one ordered a pulled pork sandwich with fries, one ordered a Cuban sandwich with collard greens as a side. The pulled pork was tasty but a little on the dry side. The sides were quite good. The Cuban sandwich made with two slices of white bread for the top and bottom instead of a panini-type roll. It was disappointing. We were allowed to sit and visit, so we occupied the table for about an hour and a half without being pestered. By the time we left, the place was starting to fill up. Although the food missed the mark for us, the service and atmosphere were both good. We agreed to give SoDoSoPa another try this summer. The restaurant was clean. read more
