Good burger...got the Carolina Classic...8oz hand pressed...Coleslaw, carmalized onion, cheddar, and I think it was supposed to have chili on it which it did not but it was still tasty...guess I have to go back again and get it with chili lol....place was clean and the server was very friendly.

I can't believe all of the high ratings and stars for this place. To begin with it's right next door to and in the same building with Big Boy's 66 Truck Stop. So you might know the food here is simply belly filler truck stop food. The emphasis here is on Southern Country food and they even seem to do some Low Country. You have your choice of a buffet or sit down order. I did the sit down, ordering a Country Fried Steak. I sort of knew that at $8.99 they couldn't make it all that good and they didn't. The sauce had been more than liberally doused with white pepper and had the consistency and texture of wall paper paste. Looking around I'd say half the patrons are truckers with the other half being tourists or travelers who have pulled in to fuel up. On the good side, Lowell Mill Restaurant is spotlessly clean and super friendly. For a restaurant I've seen better but as a truck stop restaurant, it's one of the best.

Fantastic southern country cooking! Great location right off I 95. Large menu and a fantastic buffet. You're guaranteed to find something for everyone. A must if you are traveling and if you lucky enough to live close they have daily specials.

The restaurant is in a small truck-stop off of I-95. Many comfort food choices with large portions. Friendly staff.

Being a fan of non-chain local spots, all of them have their quirks and this one's is pretty simple: They have 2 front doors yet one is the entrance and one is the exit. Both are clearly marked and steps from each other; impossible to miss. Upon entering, you seat yourself, a friendly waitress takes your drink order then its on you to lay back your ears and dive in the buffet. Next nifty quirk are the buffet plates: Real glass, y'all! Plenty of places claim to have soul food but how many of them serve up food on proper plates with proper utensils?! As you can see from my plate, all the bases are covered and you won't leave hungry. Trout, fried chicken, baked chicken, sketti, Mac & cheese, slaw, tater salad, collards, black eye peas, taters and gravy... Now unlike most places I must admit, if you have it in you to do so -leave room for desert!- I didn't get a pic of the 2 different types of cake I ate so someone else can brag on those after taking my advice to stop on in. I even joked that the reason we can't have places like this in the city is because people like me would order a coffee and pay for the buffet, but simply sit and eat a little over a quarter of one of those splendid cakes : D

Food: The variety was very slim, the serving dishes were all pretty picked over - and not being readily filled - when we got there so we had to start out with the left overs and make our way back over to the buffet again later to check if they'd filled the serving dishes. I didn't think anything I had (flounder, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, pie) was particularly good. I put all that in small scoops each on my plate because somehow I just knew. I thought I'd find something I'd really enjoy but no way, didn't happen. (The place was busy though so I'll give them that. I just wouldn't go back, but I am traveling through so I wouldn't have much of an opportunity to do so more than once a year really). 'Ambiance' .. none. Very wide open and very much like a church rec-room basement with tables and booths. Nothing special or enticing. Big containers of water and drinks on every table. Looked cluttered but that's not important. Table: sticky. Floor: sticky Service: Everyone we had contact with was pleasant. Price was $30+ for two.

I'm not usually a buffet person, but since I wanted to try a little bit of everything it was definitely the way to go. For $18 I got some ribs, pulled pork, and BBQ chicken. Not to mention, a side of their delish cornbread, and a scoop of two of my Southern faves: mac & cheese and collard greens. Sadly, I was too full of the deliciousness to make a second trip, but if I had it would have been for a heaping pile of mashed potatoes and a generous scoop of their homemade peach cobbler. They also have a full bar, though on this hot day we were happy with bottomless refills of their refreshing sweet tea.

The fried chicken was crispy and fried hard just the way I like it, with plenty of flavor in every bite. Collards are also delicious and the yams are mildly sweet without being cloying. The banana pudding is gloriously warm and the meringue is fluffy. The pudding is a touch too sweet and I could have done with more bananas but it was large enough to share. The staff is genuinely happy to see you and are happy to talk about their work, if you like. The room is a bit bare bones and the bathrooms are rudimentary and cramped but everything works. There is parking directly in front of the restaurant.
