Vibe: Staying in nearby hotel Service: A+ (quick, courteous, kind) Order: 2 meat plate (burnt ends & ribs), comes with 2 sides (fried okra, collards) and hush puppies Food: Good Meat was a little dry but had a good flavor. Okra and collards were fresh fried and hot and perfectly seasoned! Overall a delicious meal for $18

This summer we drove from New England to Florida. Along the way we've been stopping at local favorites with a focus on small businesses. Benson NC happened to be along our route right in time for dinner. We decided on Daddy Ds Bbq. It was just me, hubby, and my 15 year old on this trip. We ordered the family meal of burnt ends. Our server JeryElijah was patient with us. We were deciding on our sides and he let us sample collard greens and Brunswick stew. That was so awesome. So that sealed the deal for us on the collard greens. We also got fries for my son and a small individual side of baked beans. Let me tell you - we stopped and had bbq on many places on this trip and I think Daddy Ds was my favorite. The burnt ends were fantastic. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The collard greens was love at first bite. (My only thing with the collard greens was that I think they should serve it in a double paper bowl because it has so much liquid). Baked beans were sweet and tangy. I've only had hush puppies a few times before and I really loved them here. We didn't have to use any of the 4 provided bbq sauces (hot, sweet, mild, and eastern) or ketchup for the fries. I generally try all of the homemade sauces that we come across but honestly the food was already perfect. We tried both of the desserts that they offered that day- banana pudding and apple cobbler. Banana pudding was fabulous. Topped with crushed trefoil cookies (I think), fresh banana slices, and cool whip topping. The apple cobbler had plenty of crumb topping and it was very warm and fresh. Lots of cinnamon sweetness. I loved at the music that they played- lots of 80s 90s 2000s hits. Bathrooms were clean. Water that they served tasted refreshingly crisp. And they use nugget ice! Also they have Cheerwine! Menu prices were very reasonable. I could see myself here often if I lived closer!! This place even has a drive thru window to order from. Really easy on and off of 95 which was our biggest criteria for choosing a spot. The air conditioning was on the cooler side. The real gem here was JeryElijah. He was really attentive, came by often, well mannered, and patient. I hope management sees this. This young man is the perfect example of who you'd want to represent your business.

I am from DC/Maryland but visited NC for my family reunion over this year's Fourth of July weekend. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and Daddy D's is located right across the street. I am SO happy we stopped here my entire family ate here all weekend. The food is amazing, the restaurant itself is clean and the staff is welcoming and helpful!! Amazing customer service. They really added to me and my family's experience. I am pleasantly surprised at the development of Benson and I'm so happy Daddy D's is apart of it! I can't wait to come back and visit again.

Was in the mood for BBQ and decided to try here. I'm from NY so I already know how the down south do their BBQ sauce- vinegar based, personally I do not like it but that aside the food was good ! I was really impressed with how moist the pulled pork was and the smoked sauce. You could definitely taste that smoky flavor. It was really good. The only thing I wasn't that impressed with was the brisket. It was just OK. I would swap it out with something else next time to try. I was nervous to try the baked beans because of the vinegar base but it actually wasn't that bad and I did enjoy them, the mac & cheese was OK. It was a little too watery and it could definitely have been more cheesy, but it was good overall. The hush puppies were also really good. I would definitely come back here and try more items on their menu. Also this whole play for $21?!? Definitely a 8.5/10 lol

Amazing BBQ food, just a hot minute off I-95 If you want to experience some legit local flavor, served fast & friendly..stop here. Cute little casual dining area with booths and tables like a fast food joint but there's table service. Clean & inviting with local decor The quality and flavor of the food, you won't believe the speed from ordering to meals delivered to table. We make it a point on every road trip to find a good local BBQ spot to dine. One time here and I can tell you..this is going to be a regular stop. EVERYTHING we had was so flavorful. All of the meats were juicy and tender. We had chicken, brisket and pulled pork. The Mac & cheese will have you testifying OMG. I could have eaten the hush puppies all day. Portions are generous. So much for the money. Free refills on sodas. Super friendly service. Thanks Daddy! We will definitely be back!

We were looking for a new restaurant that we had not eaten at before and discovered Daddy D's BBQ in Benson. We were NOT disappointed. I had chopped BBQ, baked beans, boiled potatoes, slaw and hushpuppies. My wife ordered smoked chicken. Everything we ate was delicious! We will definitely be visiting again!

We were a few towns over and found Daddy's D's bbq online and thought we give it a try. The first thing I liked was the sign on the outside. "A cow a pig and a chicken walked into a bbq restaurant. The End." Love it. Service was good. I order the sliced brisket with Mac and cheese and collards which were recommended by the waitress. My wife order burnt ends with potato salad and okra. First off the bark on the brisket was non existent and very fatty. Without the sauces it would have very little flavor. The Mac and cheese was excellent. The collards had no flavor and it was watery and a bit bitter. The was no hint of it being cooked with ham or bacon or apples. My wife burnt ends were not burnt ends Just cube pieces of fatty brisket and more fat than brisket to the point we had to ask the waitress to bring us another order as almost all of the order was fat and gristle. There was no crisp or bark on the burnt ends. It was just fatty brisket cubes swimming in overly sweet bbq sauce. So basically it tasted like a wet slim Jim. The potato salad was pretty good but the okra was excellent. The portion size was very small only 4 slices of brisket and about 10 small cubes of brisket being called burnt ends . The waitress was attentive and nice. I thought the sides were decent but the bbq was not very good at all. And mostly the price it was a total disappointment. Oh. And the presentation was bad. The hush puppies were pitifully small and they just slopped it in a paper tray on an aluminum tray. It wasn't very appetizing at all. I know I sound harsh. But this is the kind version. I have have bbq all over the country. Texas, Arkansas South Carolina all over North Carolina amongst countless places in Tennessee. And I must stay this is some of the worst bbq I have had.

The brisket here is tender and has a great balance of fat and lean meat. Their competition sauce goes great with it, along with some freshly brewed sweet tea to chug it down! The jalapeño mac and cheese is awesome but you can definitely taste the jalapeño. It is not subtle. They also give you a biscuit AND a slice of cornbread! Even though this is a "help yourself" restaurant with free seating and grab-it-yourself utensils, there is an employee frequently walking around asking if he can refill your drinks and is welcome to strike up a conversation with you. But it was worth those few extra minutes for front row seats of the action on the tarmac below. We arrived during their lunchtime buffet hours, although you can also order from their regular menu. I'm not usually a buffet person, but since I wanted to try a little bit of everything it was definitely the way to go. For $18 I got some ribs, pulled pork, and BBQ chicken. Not to mention, a side of their delish cornbread, and a scoop of two of my Southern faves: mac & cheese and collard greens. Sadly, I was too full of the deliciousness to make a second trip, but if I had it would have been for a heaping pile of mashed potatoes and a generous scoop of their homemade peach cobbler. If you like airplanes and BBQ, add this to your list for your next visit to the area. They also have a full bar, though on this hot day we were happy with bottomless refills of their refreshing sweet tea.

Being a fan of non-chain local spots, all of them have their quirks and this one's is pretty simple: They have 2 front doors yet one is the entrance and one is the exit. Both are clearly marked and steps from each other; impossible to miss. Upon entering, you seat yourself, a friendly waitress takes your drink order then its on you to lay back your ears and dive in the buffet. Next nifty quirk are the buffet plates: Real glass, y'all! Plenty of places claim to have soul food but how many of them serve up food on proper plates with proper utensils?! As you can see from my plate, all the bases are covered and you won't leave hungry. Trout, fried chicken, baked chicken, sketti, Mac & cheese, slaw, tater salad, collards, black eye peas, taters and gravy... Now unlike most places I must admit, if you have it in you to do so -leave room for desert!- I didn't get a pic of the 2 different types of cake I ate so someone else can brag on those after taking my advice to stop on in. I even joked that the reason we can't have places like this in the city is because people like me would order a coffee and pay for the buffet, but simply sit and eat a little over a quarter of one of those splendid cakes : D
