I can summarize my meal today in one word: cold. The meatloaf on my lunch meatloaf plate was obviously not fresh and had been dredged up from the refrigerator. It was served cold. The taco seasoning on my small slice of meatloaf was odd and really out of place in a BBQ restaurant. I wouldn't order this again, even if it would come out of the kitchen hot and fresh. My BBQ boiled potatoes were also leftovers from the 'frig. I don't think the kitchen even tried to warm them before serving my potatoes as they were just cold. If these had been served hot or at least warmed, I think they would have been good, leftovers or not. The restaurant was also freezing cold inside. Despite the outdoor temperature being in the low-50s, the air conditioner was cranked up necessitating wearing my coat during my stay in the restaurant. After taking my order, I didn't see the server again until she dropped off the check. Today's meal really illustrates a failure in the management of this Daddy D's BBQ. Went to the drive through and ordered Carolina burger and Brunswick stew. There was no to go fork so went back around and they had nothing. I asked her how I was supposed to eat Brunswick stew with no fork and she literally just shrugged her shoulders. No problem cause it was awful as I went next store to Cook out and they gladly supplied what I needed. It was 11$ and no drink came with the combo. Never again. I think the pork nachos should be mandatory at every barbecue restaurant!!! So good! The wings were very good. For dinner we had a mixed grill and a half a rack of ribs both very good. The barbecue sauce was a little too vinegary for me, but what was baked on to the ribs was sweet enough to be delicious. The pulled pork was delicious. The brisket cut was not as fatty as we like, but tasty. The baked potato salad was delicious. The corn salad was OK. The baked beans were hard. The Brunswick stew was kind of watery. Very welcoming , seat yourself. Wanted to try some good old NC smiled BBQ. The waitress was sweet and down to earth. She informed us they soda products are coke and tea. I wanted to try some of everything so she recommended the 3 meats and sides. I ordered the ribs, smoked meatloaf and burnt ends with baked beans and collard greens. Loved the meatloaf it was moist and came with cheese, seasoning on point. Baked beans are good with a tangy sweet base. Collared greens had no flavor did have smoke meat but they need to cook some more, the greens was still crunchy. Burnt ends very tough good sauce. Smoked ribs came out room temperature too tough to chew not much flavor. Eric got the Daddy's Burger and stew potatoes. Found out all the bugers are cooked well done, its okay but the chill brings out the flavor. With all that being said I will be going back again maybe it was just an off day. This summer we drove from New England to Florida. Along the way we've been stopping at local favorites with a focus on small businesses. Benson NC happened to be along our route right in time for dinner. We decided on Daddy Ds Bbq. It was just me, hubby, and my 15 year old on this trip. We ordered the family meal of burnt ends. Our server JeryElijah was patient with us. We were deciding on our sides and he let us sample collard greens and Brunswick stew. That was so awesome. So that sealed the deal for us on the collard greens. We also got fries for my son and a small individual side of baked beans. Let me tell you - we stopped and had bbq on many places on this trip and I think Daddy Ds was my favorite. The burnt ends were fantastic. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The collard greens was love at first bite. (My only thing with the collard greens was that I think they should serve it in a double paper bowl because it has so much liquid). Baked beans were sweet and tangy. I've only had hush puppies a few times before and I really loved them here. We didn't have to use any of the 4 provided bbq sauces (hot, sweet, mild, and eastern) or ketchup for the fries. I generally try all of the homemade sauces that we come across but honestly the food was already perfect. We tried both of the desserts that they offered that day- banana pudding and apple cobbler. Banana pudding was fabulous. Topped with crushed trefoil cookies (I think), fresh banana slices, and cool whip topping. The apple cobbler had plenty of crumb topping and it was very warm and fresh. Lots of cinnamon sweetness. I loved at the music that they played- lots of 80s 90s 2000s hits. Bathrooms were clean. Water that they served tasted refreshingly crisp. And they use nugget ice! Also they have Cheerwine! Menu prices were very reasonable. I could see myself here often if I lived closer!! This place even has a drive thru window to order from. Really easy on and off of 95 which was our biggest criteria for choosing a spot. The air conditioning was on the cooler side. The real gem here was JeryElijah. He was really attentive, came by often, well mannered, and patient. I hope management sees this. This young man is the perfect example of who you'd want to represent your business. read more

I am from DC/Maryland but visited NC for my family reunion over this year's Fourth of July weekend. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and Daddy D's is located right across the street. I am SO happy we stopped here my entire family ate here all weekend. The food is amazing, the restaurant itself is clean and the staff is welcoming and helpful!! Amazing customer service. They really added to me and my family's experience. I am pleasantly surprised at the development of Benson and I'm so happy Daddy D's is apart of it! Was in the mood for BBQ and decided to try here. I'm from NY so I already know how the down south do their BBQ sauce- vinegar based, personally I do not like it but that aside the food was good ! I was really impressed with how moist the pulled pork was and the smoked sauce. You could definitely taste that smoky flavor. It was really good. The only thing I wasn't that impressed with was the brisket. It was just OK. I would swap it out with something else next time to try. I was nervous to try the baked beans because of the vinegar base but it actually wasn't that bad and I did enjoy them, the mac & cheese was OK. It was a little too watery and it could definitely have been more cheesy, but it was good overall. The hush puppies were also really good. We were a few towns over and found Daddy's D's bbq online and thought we give it a try. The first thing I liked was the sign on the outside. "A cow a pig and a chicken walked into a bbq restaurant. The End." Love it. Service was good. I order the sliced brisket with Mac and cheese and collards which were recommended by the waitress. My wife order burnt ends with potato salad and okra. First off the bark on the brisket was non existent and very fatty. Without the sauces it would have very little flavor. The Mac and cheese was excellent. The collards had no flavor and it was watery and a bit bitter. The was no hint of it being cooked with ham or bacon or apples. My wife burnt ends were not burnt ends Just cube pieces of fatty brisket and more fat than brisket to the point we had to ask the waitress to bring us another order as almost all of the order was fat and gristle. There was no crisp or bark on the burnt ends. It was just fatty brisket cubes swimming in overly sweet bbq sauce. So basically it tasted like a wet slim Jim. The potato salad was pretty good but the okra was excellent. The portion size was very small only 4 slices of brisket and about 10 small cubes of brisket being called burnt ends . The waitress was attentive and nice. I thought the sides were decent but the bbq was not very good at all. And mostly the price it was a total disappointment. Oh. And the presentation was bad. The hush puppies were pitifully small and they just slopped it in a paper tray on an aluminum tray. It wasn't very appetizing at all. I know I sound harsh. But this is the kind version. I have have bbq all over the country. Texas, Arkansas South Carolina all over North Carolina amongst countless places in Tennessee. We pulled into the Benson location, when you walk in you seat yourself. We were quickly greeted by our waitress and we both ordered a pick 2 bbq plate. The brisket was so tender as were the burnt ends! They have house made sauces on the table for you to choose from as well to top your bbq with. The French fries were nice and crispy. When we looked at the menu prices, I expected smaller portions, so I ordered the Loaded Pork Cheese Fries as a appetizer, and the Eastern Chopped BBQ Plate. I am still overwhelmed with the amount of food I was served. I think I brought back about 2/3ds of the food! My wife similarly couldn't finish her dinner. The BBQ meat was moist, tender, tasty, and extremely plentiful. The sides were also superb. The server was polite and patient with us, as we were tired after being on the road since early in the morning. But she got our food out quickly, and left us alone to enjoy our meal. She magically appeared as we were almost done, as if she could read my mind. I was impressed. the one thing I would ask to change is the music volume. If you've ever read any of my prior reviews, you'll know noise levels is pet peeve of mine for a restaurant. In this case it was loud, and a lot of the loud noise came from the speakers, not the other diners. Nevertheless, kudos to the cook and the staff. On a road trip through NC on 95, and discovered this gem right off the highway! Friendly service, clean restaurant and bathroom, and delicious BBQ. We ordered ahead because we were worried it would be too crowded to sit down, and got a message that our order was ready just as we were pulling in front of the restaurant (about 5 minutes after placing the order). There was tons of space, and the server said we could have our takeout inside, which was nice. We got the 2 combination platter -- we chose brisket, burnt ends, Mac and cheese, and brunswick stew. It also came with hush puppies! We also tried all the sauces. My husband liked the sweet sauce, and I liked the mild sauce, which was nice and tangy. They also had an eastern sauce, which was very very vinegary. I love vinegar, but it was too vinegary for me. Our favorite meat was the brisket, with the sauces. The burnt ends had a lot of flavor and didn't need more sauce. They were good, but I'd probably try a different meat next time. The Brunswick stew was surprisingly delightful. So flavorful. I ended up eating it with the Mac and cheese, because the Mac lacked a little flavor. It was good in combination with everything else though.
