I guess if you want chain fried foods then you have scored - I was misled after driving 5 hours that this was a family BBQ & Chicken place - it was - I am full - but probably 50% full of oil ! The Ice Tea was great ! Cole slaw& potato salad was good a bit "creamy" for me - the BBQ has never seen a pit ! The fried chicken was crispy but small thigh that appeared large with a giant amount of crispy coating. Now it was packed so apparently the locals love it and who am I to judge !! This location is always friendly and the store is clean, even during covid-19. Food is always hot and fresh, perfectly seasoned. On this visit, we ordered the shrimp snack and took advantage of the buy one get one promo with the Brunswick stew. The Brunswick stew is a favorite in our house. we ordered two wings to supplement our meal and we're actually a little disappointed at how small they were. They definitely weren't worth the price. we've had larger wings in the past not sure if they've changed suppliers or not but that was a disappointment and why we're not giving five stars. read more

Always one of my favorite local eateries. The quality has suffered since the pandemic. The barbecue is still excellent. What was once the absolute best banana pudding in the world has now been reduced to banana flavored pudding, no bananas, and four vanilla wafers stuck into the cup. Yuck! I have just gotten out of my meeting and have a long trek home and remembered that one of my colleagues mentioned to me that the sweet tea at Smithfield's was the best. Now, being from California, I am relatively new to sweet tea but I am a big BIG fan of it since having it for the first time at Zacksbys. Ordered: Large Sweet Tea - You can taste the tea, you can taste the perfect sweetness, the nice is that nice ice that you can chew, the cup is HUGE and styrofoam. Score: 5/5 Service: Drive thru was clear and clean and the servers were incredibly nice and professional. There was a mistake in my order that I did not see until I got home (10 miles away). They only gave me 2 of the 4 Brunswick Stews I ordered, but they charged me for them. I have called and left 2 messages on 2 different days but no one ever contacted me back. Why state that you can leave a message and someone will get back with you and they never do. This is a common chain, known for it's great tasting food. My sister enjoyed the fried chicken while I got the BBQ platter. Everything was delicious! Received coupons for Five Dollar off Chicken Box/two dozen hushpuppies, went to Dunn.N.C. Smithfield's Chic-N-BBQ to buy it when i got home the Chicken was dripping in grease to the point it was not edible had already had a run in with the manager about the coupon and the chicken not being the same price as quoted on line so that meant the five dollar off didn't even befit the purchase, i know the General Managers Of Smithfield's would not like this quality of food being served to their customers not up to there standers at all regardless of how busy they were, i can only hope something be done about this for future customers!!! I went by last Friday and ordered a large barbecue plate and a side half pint of barbecue which cost me $5.49 for the half pint . After driving the 20 miles to my house I realized I had a half a pint of slaw instead of barbecue. I I called the Dunn store but nobody would answer so then I tried the customer service number on the receipt I was told somebody would call me back from management . Tomorrow makes a week and still no phone call . I have to eat low-carb and I was very frustrated and hungry to find out I had slaw that I could not eat. read more

Sister and I decided to go thru drive thru to pick up a couple of teas but that was a mistake. After 10:30 am and there was no one in the drive thru and only one car outside in parking lot. Ordered the tea, went to window and a very rude woman took my money, gave me my change and the teas and rudely closed the window and walked away. No straws or napkins....so I waited at the window for her to look my toward the window. Only 2 people working in the area I could see....this woman and a man cooking behind the counter. She came back to window and opened and yelled... Out of straws and slammed the window again and walked away. If she knew she was out of straws why did she not tell us this when she handed the tea out the window. I understand there is a help shortage but I am a paying customer and that is not my fault she has no one to help her. My husband and I arrived a little after 7p to grab dinner. They were packed..but I felt that was to be expected as it was 7p on a Friday evening. We opted to go through the drive thru as neither of us was dressed for a public sighting lol the line was literally wrapped around the building. Again, I anticipated this as the restaurant just recently reopened and Smithfield's chicken n bbq is not "fast food" it's good ole southern cooked food, so I was willing to wait. I honestly felt the line moved relatively quickly for the volume of customers they were serving. The individual who took out order was pleasant, the individual who took our payment was pleasant and the individual who brought us our food was pleasant as well. We were taken aback when the young lady who brought us our food said the manager wanted to give us something as a result of our wait. That's something they didn't have to do but felt was necessary to make up to the customer, and for that I am grateful and will be a returning customer ALWAYS. Very nice, friendly and efficient with clean facilities and good food. Hubby got the platter which had a lot of food on it - two chickens, beans, fries and hush puppies while I went for the fried chicken breast and hush puppies. It was yummy and glad we stopped by on our way to the beach. The ladies delivered your food to your table and came by a few times offering refills and seeing if we needed anything else. Very nice!! I ordered two barbecue sandwiches and was asked to pull into a parking spot to wait ( and that's what we did, wait ) Watched five cars with very large orders get theirs and we are still waiting. Who knew that fast food dining in the South is a completely different affair? On a recommendation, we googled and stopped by this E. NC chain on a drive back to DC this weekend. On a Sunday afternoon, the Smithfield's was filled with people in their Sunday best. They basically have two types of food: fried chicken and bbq. The bbq was really good and the Carolina style sauce (very vinegary) was delicious with my sandwich. With a bbq platter comes two sides, such as beans, Brunswick stew, and baked beans. The many choices can be bought as individual to-go tubs. I'm usually not a huge fan of sweet tea, but my meal came with it, so I couldn't refuse. It also seems like you don't NOT get sweet tea at Smithfield's. Once your meal is brought to you, there are ladies who walk around with pitchers of sweet tea to refill you at your seat. You don't even have to work for your sweet tea!!! How awesome is that? The employees could not have been more helpful. You don't see this kind of service at any place up north! The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't really like fried chicken and my stomach hurt for the rest of the trip due to overeating and the amount of sugar I ingested through the sweet tea. I love their food and their atmosphere. One time we were here some old folks bought our friend's kid a toy. That didn't happen once, but twice! It's got a homey feel coupled with their unpretentious food. We come here when we got people from the west coast visiting to get some southern hospitality. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is cause if you ask the cashier lady a question about the menu (because you're new) she'll give you sass.
