I've eaten at Char Grill for close to 40 years in the Triangle area. We enjoy it so much, sometimes we go there weekly. We were heading back from the beach and needed gas and lunch. We saw this location and thought, perfect! I'm sorry to say from the get go, it wasn't the best experience. The young man at the register clearly wanted to be anywhere but there. He looked bored out of his mind and welcoming just wasn't in his wheelhouse. Our burgers were so overcooked they were borderline burnt. The fries were overcooked and nearly hard. They forgot to put my hot dog in the bag with the rest of the food. The chocolate shake was the only thing that was properly made and tasted very good. If I found myself in this area again I doubt we'd give it a try again. read more

I haven't had Chargrill in almost a decade ! The burger was just as good as I remember . It's the chargrill taste for me . The other menu items like the fries and onion rings are good but it's the burger that is the star of the show here . The first time I tried Chargrill was at the original restaurant location in downtown Raleigh . Total retro vibes here as it appeared it never updated its drive in style , car hop , outdoor/car dining only . At the time you had to walk up to the order window and write down your order on a piece of paper and slip it thru the window . The location in Benson is modernized while still paying homage to its original Raleigh location with vintage photos and retro decor . The indoor dining is certainly appreciated on hot summer days. I don't live in NC but will make a point to go back just for the Chargrill burger ! read more

On the drive from FL to MD there are gonna be stops for food and fuel. One of these stops landed me at this spot that I had never heard of. My husband missed the BBQ sauce and jalapeño toppings he typically would order at Five Guys and thought the shake wasn't as good either. Just a stop to get some gas and my husband and our friends saw this close by. It's by the gas station (NOT next to it). The place is clean and the service was quick. The food ended up being REALLY good and just simple. I got the cheeseburger with everything and my husband got the steak burger. The fries were crispy and drinks were good. I have to admit that the steak burger was actually A LOT better than the regular burgers. The flavor was a much flavory and the meat was more tender and juicy. We were starving during our road trip, and I saw a sign for a food stop that wasn't a chain (gasp!). I told man friend to pull the car off the interstate as Yelp indicated this place was pretty good. And good it was! First of all, this place was CLEAN. I mean, straight up almost sparkling clean. As Mike M. always would put out, the bathrooms were also nice and clean which is just the best when you're on a road trip (or not). The food was hamburgers, fries, milkshakes, etc. They were good! Great takeout orders fresh burgers made to order and fries! Was a perfect weekend meal since it was raining and we didn't want to grill. Burgers are juicy, not precooked or dry. Love that I can get it my way, with whatever toppings I'd like. Even with the limited menu for takeout because of the virus pandemic, their service was fast and efficient. A fair overall 4.5 stars. I will up it to a five based on it being seemingly more personal. I kind of stumbled upon Char-Grill because I wanted to dine in and finding/supporting a restaurant with dine-in is far and few in between nowadays. Nevertheless, I found this place and called ahead to confirm. The employees were friendly, helpful, and prompt. They did forget one milkshake, but made it up and even gave an upgrade for the inconvenience! Now that's great customer service! The food was pretty good, although I wish the fries weren't so comparable to Burger King. The fries were still tasty, though (unlike American BK). The dining area was clean well designed. I would definitely consider stopping by again and would recommend this place to others. read more

Right off the exit this place was the perfect quick stop for lunch as we were traveling on 95. The place has a similar menu to most fast food burger places (pulled pork sandwich on this menu). They have a big sign on the lawn boasting about being named "Best Burger Joint In North Carolina" by USA Today...USA Today was obviously drunk or on crack that day. This was my first visit to a Char-Grill which is a little local chain with other locations in the Raleigh/Durham area. This one is a fastfood burger joint setup with a drive-thru, very nice and clean building just off the interstate. I hit the drive-thru for quick lunch while traveling, I went with the Double CharBurger meal deal (regular sized) which came with a medium drink and a regular fries. The burger was a real disappointment after reading some of those stellar reviews, it was 2 tiniest, flavorless patties with no hint of any kind of seasoning or "Char" or "Grill" flavor whatsoever. If you're gonna charge folks $9 dollars for a fastfood burger/fry combo, that better be a pretty super awesome burger...I was robbed no doubt...the fries were nothing special either, just regular fries like any other fastfood place. They may have some things to offer that are great, I don't know...all I got here was a $9 sack full of sadness. read more

This is a great alternative to your average burger chain restaurants. This location is SUPER CLEAN. They like to play "Happy Days" type music which I feel is a bit outdated business model. For the benefit of Yelpers all around, I ordered: Hamburger Steak, Junior Steak, Hot Dog (Famous Red Dog), Barbeque Sandwich, fries. The junior is already huge but the Hamburger Steak sandwich has a double square patty. The junior is unique because its a different rectangular patty. The Red Dog is certainly dyed red...has a good taste but the dye is a bit disturbing for those who are more in to natural foods. The fries are the weakpoint...in a vastly competitive market, I'm not sure why they didn't put out a stronger potato product (see Five Guys). The Benson location is a great place to come and enjoy a burger. read more

On a recent road trip I stopped at a gas station and I was getting gas I saw this place called Char Grill across the street. The first thing that came to my mind is that this place was another version of the Cook Out chain that is popping up everywhere. I figured grabbing a little food before hitting the road would be best. A caveat on this review is that I only did a drive thru order. The menu is very simple but somehow the person in front of me seemed to be making decisions as if she was about to buy a car or going through a cell phone contract. The menu was basically burgers, fries, shakes, and since it was North Carolina of course some Eastern NC bbq sandwiches. Once I placed my order it was not long at all when I got to the window that my food came out. I was thinking wait a minute how long has this food been sitting for it to come out so fast? The food was actually hot and the fries were so hot I had to wait until I was a few minutes before they cooled off enough to start eating. They were almost steak cut fry thick. The burger was good as I went with a single charburger with cheese. With so many burger chains out there it was nothing that stood out with the burger but it was better than more than a few chains. Not a bad spot if you want a burger outside of the usual suspects with a few twists of North Carolina thrown in. read more

No meat or cheese I was already on 95 five miles away didn't turn back. Spent 13.58 cents on a hamburger bun a drink and fries.
