First time in this new location. Once again we enjoyed it. Ordered the cebiche for the whole family, great flavor perfect level of spice. We also had anticuchos, they were perfect ! Tender and with great flavor. Ordered the papa rellena, chaufa and tacu tacu con lomo. They were good. And we closed with some picarones, they were amazing ! Food was absolutely delicious! We have visited Peru and were looking for a reminder of our trip. This was just as good, if not better! The Chaufa (pollo) was amazing, the Lomo saltado was bursting with flavor and the Picarones were the perfect combination of sweet and savory! This is THE hidden gem in Benson. We went for lunch on a Saturday and met the wonderful couple who owns it. I had the arroz chaufa with chicken and my husband had the lomo saltado. Both were amazing! We will definitely be back. read more

We just moved up from Tampa Bay two months ago and were worried we would have few if any options for Latin American food. Discovering Gabriella's in Benson of all place was a huge win. I fell in love with Peruvian food many years ago and Tampa has a wealth of great Peruvian restaurants. Well, Gabriella's could compete with any of them. The restaurant is located in a kind of out of the way corner of a retail area. But, it has plenty of parking and is well worth discovering. The atmosphere is simple and comfortable. The service very friendly and attentive. The owner herself waited on us and was very lovely. When she discovered we knew and love Peruvian food she was so enthusiastic it made us feel very welcome. The one item their menu misses, Peruvian rotisserie chicken, was no loss since there are tons of options for that in the area. What they do have is a list of traditional Peruvian dishes not found in the chicken franchises. We started with the ceviche, which was the authentic Peruvian preparation with fresh fish marinated in a perfectly balanced citrus sauce. The standard accompaniment of sweet potato and Peruvian corn was perfect. For our entrees we had Lomo Saltado, beef sautéed with peppers and onions served on rice and french fries, and Tallarin Saltado Con Carne, sautéed beef served with noodles. Everything was incredibly delicious. The prices are very reasonable, the food delicious, and the service warm and friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Delicious dinner tonight! I had Arroz Chaufa that was so light and refreshing with delicate ginger and scallion. I added shrimp for a perfect meal. My son had the Seafood Platter which had an amazing assortment of fish, shrimp and I had never seen fried mussels in the shell but they were incredible! Very authentic Peruvian food. Lots of dishes not normally seen in regular Peruvian restaurants. They have items not listed ln the menu. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. Clean place. Heading north on I-95, we found Gabriella's based on Yelp reviews. I had high expectations from the 5-star reviews, and we were still 'wowed'. The service was attentive and quick, and the food was amazing. The ingredients are so fresh, and all is homemade and rich with flavor (fresh meat and fish, herbs, spice, lime). My husband had Bistec a Lo Probre (steak) and I had the Parihuela (Peruvian fish stew). I'll be pining for it once I'm back home. The servings are so large I took half my Parihuela home! Note the food is as beautiful and appetizing as the menu photos display. read more

We were staying in Benson. I must eat gluten free and looked for restaurants that could accommodate me. I read the wonderful reviews of Gabriela's. I love Peruvian food and the menu looked great. Am I glad we ate there. The food is delicious. It's cooked to order and you can taste the love. I had chaufa as they carry gluten free soy sauce. I took home half of it and will enjoy it again tomorrow. I also ordered papas a la huincain. delicious! We drive through Benson a few times a year. I've found my place! read more

Food was amazing! I had the bistec plato tipico which was amazing! Beef, eggs, and plantains were perfectly prepared. The light salad was great. I used the green sauce instead of ranch which was a lovely accompaniment. My companion had the roast chaufa. Portions were oversized leaving a bit to enjoy later. The ambience was a bit sparse but the displayed cakes were beautiful. read more

Ok, ok the value is here, I was wrong. I wanted to come back and give them another try so first we tried the caramel filled cookies and cheesecake. Both were fresh and delicious! So I tried their beef saltano and chocolate cake. It was very good. The beef though a bit chewy, NOT dry, had excellent flavor. The cake was moist and everything you want in a chocolate cake and did not disappoint. Service was excellent. read more

Happen to be in Dunn to drop of a VW Westfalia Camper for some restoration services and my wife found Gabriella's on Yelp. I am super happy she did. We tried the pick 3 option from the menu and got to sample their dishes. Awesome flavors, huge portions and warm service. As other reviewers have said, it's an old pizza place, you are not here for decor, you are here for really good food. The service will be slow if they have more than 4-5 tables, but be patient. Absolutely incredible food! Authentic, impeccable, delicious and memorable. We stopped by on a long trip through the east coast, and are planning ways to get back to order more of their incredible food. We had the pot roast with potatoes, and it reminded me immediately of my grandmother's! You can tell that this family creates divine cuisine with their recipes, as every detail is delicious. The rice pudding was perfect, and the butternut squash doughnuts were so good that my husband finished all of them. The owners and family were thoughtful and welcoming, all while being genius chefs. We definitely have marked this place on our MUST STOP list for restaurants near i95. Even if you aren't hungry, stop and get something to go for later, because they are literally the BEST place for amazing food. read more

First, we lived in Bolivia and Ecuador, traveled several times to Peru so the food at Gabriella's is the real deal. Stopped coming back from the beach because of the good reviews. Husband and wife are both from Peru. It was cold and rainy so we both decided on soup. I had Chupe de Camerones. All south american soups are hardy. The Chupe was full of shrimp, rice, vegetables, cheese, choclo (peruvian corn) and an egg. Big portion was more than I could eat. My wife had chicken soup, Sopa de pollo. It was also hardy, like a stew. Also more than she could eat. All was well seasoned with aji, mild peruvian peppers so everything had a great flavor. Definitely going back to try some other dishes. Food is delicious, I wish they have another location though. Benson is far so their customers are local, also the charge of $0.25 for tap water is ridiculous, is not the amount of charges, but my kids understand Spanish and for your staff talking in the back about your customers and saying about complaining about $0.25 cents, was not accurate, it was more like a surprise since our knowledge of restaurants are large, most restaurants don't charge you for tap water, maybe for the bottle of water but not for pouring water in a foam cup. LOL!!!! I wish you good luck im your small local business, and hoping you grow and learn from other peruvian restaurants. read more

Excellent Peruvian, in an unexpected find in a little Mall in Benson, NC Chef does inspired, creative, superlative work. Shrimp Ceviche is not on the Menu, but it was simply outstanding! Just the right amount of citrusy, oniony spice. The Papa Causa was a real work of art!! Beautiful presentation!! The Green Banana Tostones were huge, and perfectly cooked. You can judge Peruvian by the quality of their rotisserie chicken, and this one did not disappoint. Plump, juicy, perfectly seasoned with both the green Peruvian chili and "Amarillo" yellow chili sauce on the side. Their "Bistec a Lo Pobre", the Poor Man's Steak, was anything but. Beautiful piece of grilled ribeye on the bone, two fried eggs on top, choice of sides. Innovative, tasty, nice. Fresh hand-cut salads. Attentive. excellent service. We recently found this treasure and are glad we have. From the moment we walked in, everyone was very polite and had great customer service. Silverware and napkins are next to the drink fountains. The decor on the walls is awesome, a mix of heritage/Latin culture with obvious military support - it's nice to see that. FOOD: I chose the Arroz chaufa (which is Peruvian fried rice) and a side of Maduros (sweet plantains). The arroz came with a small side salad which included fresh lettuce, fresh tomato and cucumber. I was in town for business and as in every location I travel to, I look for Peruvian food. This is in my top three. One was in Austin, TX, one in St Louis, MO and now this one in Durham, NC. I had the lunch special. It included a drink, soup and entree. Of course you have to drink Inca Cola (tastes like Squirt with Cream Soda) nice and cold. I'll have to get a Chicha Morada to take with me (which I did, and it was fruity and sweet, like a non-alcoholic sangria with cinnamon). The soup was a chicken and lentil soup with various veggies. As soon as I tasted it, I knew I was in for a treat and prayed the Aji de Gallina would be just as good. It was! Aji de Gallina is a shredded chicken dish made with Peruvian Aji amarillos, nuts, Parmesan cheese. Add in all the delicious spices Peru is known for and you have a wonderful, homey, delicious dish. I also opted to order the Seco since I thought it would travel better than the Lomo Saltado. The rice was perfect. Not soggy or spongy. Just right. Flavored with a little salt and garlic. You could eat it by itself. The Seco meat was tender. I didn't even use a knife to cut it. In fact, it pulled apart easily with a plastic fork. I would have liked a little more of the cilantro sauce to soak up in my rice. The flavors were right on, but I love cilantro...so. It even came with a Salsa Criolla (lightly pickled red onion), which is authentic and served with many Peruvian dishes. I ordered additional salsa amarillo just to taste. It's a sauce made with aji amarillo and black mint. I know it sounds weird but it's actually so tasty and fresh. My only disappointment were the beans not that they weren't good and flavorful, but they were pinto beans. I was really expecting mayacoba beans (similar to a white canary bean). Sorry, I ate it before thinking about taking pictures. All in all, I would rate this highly for those wanting to try authentic Peruvian food. My next visit to Durham I'll be trying the Ceviche and Lomo Saltado.

I am Peruvian and I've eaten at the Mi Peru restaurant in Durham a few times and I always liked it, it was too far for me though. Once I found out another Mi Peru opened closer I had to try it. For starters the strip mall where it is located is not the nicest location. The restaurant itself feels a bit old and not very clean. I was about to leave but I decided to take a chance. We ordered a few dishes to share: ceviche, chicharron de pescado, arroz chaufa, aji de gallina and seco de res. And even desserts : Alfajor, tres leches and crema volteada. Food overall wasn't bad, I actually liked it, it wasn't amazing but not bad at all. The service on the other hand was terrible, there was a young guy and a young girl who had no idea how to wait tables, we were missing silverware, we had to ask for plates and glasses, .... That duo was a mess. They seemed too occupied flirting with each other than caring for the 2 tables that were occupied. Anyhow, when we got to bill I noticed that an 18% tip was mandatory !! 18 % for the terrible service I had received, that was really unfair. I paid over $180 for 5 adults and 2 kids and terrible service. Up until that point I was determined to leave and just give this place 3 stars . But then I decided to go to the bathroom and on my way to the bathroom there was a cockroach in the hallway, that was disgusting so I moved quickly into the bathroom. Inside the bathroom under the sink there was another cockroach !!! I almost threw up wondering how many cockroaches are probably running around in the kitchen!!! It is sad for me to post this as a Peruvian but I care more about the safety of the people and the reputation of the Peruvian food. My advice to the owners of Mi Peru.( the original ) which I respect. Don't destroy your brand, close the restaurant and fumigate it completely, then remodel it, clean it, hire better waiters and then reopen. Or pick a nicer location if possible. I am not coming back and will advise everyone I know not to go either.

Inside, the restaurant has a setup similar to Chipotle, but more with a Peruvian style feel. To order you walk up to the counter to place your order. I ordered the 1/4 chicken combo which comes with two sides. For the chicken you can choose dark or meat. For the sides I chose the corn (which was a bit undercooked) and rice. The chicken was good but it reminded me a bit of higher quality rotisserie chicken you might pick up from the store. My biggest hesitation is probably the value for the price. The 1/4 chicken meal portion feels a little expensive for the size. The daily specials seem like the better value since they also come with a drink. My partner ordered the daily special chicken tacos. They arrived cold and were covered with more raw onions then we personally prefer. The standout for both of us was the green sauce and you could add this to anything to make it taste good. Overall I'd still consider giving it another try if I'm even in a pinch and am looking for a good chicken meal.
